A couple more things to note: The 250kw max charge is only sustained for a very short period, for the majority of the charge between 20% and 80% on the LR the charge will sit around 150kw in good weather, the LFP battery although only able to accept 170 Kw max will sit around 110 kw for most of the charge. In a recent software update Tesla changed the charge recommendation from 90% to 80% on a regular basis for NMC battery cars (the long range) While the complete drivetrain warranty is slightly less on the RWD version, on average, LFP batteries will last 2.5 to 3 times longer (LFP is rated at 4500 full charge cycles) v NMC ( the long rage batteries are rated at 1500-1800 full charge cycles).

Just got this car, and I'm still working on the best way to signal when leaving small (European) roundabouts. You have to keep the correct hand free and forget about left/right or up/down: You want the arrow that is pointing to the center of the wheel. Best to locate the button as soon as you are on the roundabout, so you can keep eyes on the road when exiting the round about. Should be fine in a week or so. Tesla wish list: when on a roundabout, make any of the steering wheel buttons act as right indicator (or left, in left-driving countries).
@@jwstolkyou want to press the button that's further along the clockwise direction to exit a roundabout. It corresponds to the direction you'll turn the steering wheel to make the turn. Works without looking

you have missed the Renault Megane E-tech, and honestly I was pleasantly surprised by it. I know it has only been made available recently in Australia, but i was lucky to drive it in Germany and it was pure pleasure.
Good review. I was wating for this car. However, one tester of this car in Australia recently (Wheels magazine, Dec 2023?) reported the parking-assistance-cameras are not very reliable (software?). Also there is no HUD still and the current-speed display-font-size is too small and poorly located (font size is a trivial software problem to fix, software again). There are still phantom braking issues reported globally (software!), also the console laptop screen at times simply goes blank for some owners (crashes? software!) and needs reboots or other hack to bring it back to life. Paying for various charging cables and tyre puncture repair kit and sun-roof-shade is really mean at AUD$62,000 price. And the 4-year 80,000km bumper-to-bumper warranty is well below most or all major car manufacturers. I was going to buy this car in 2024 but now I will wait longer for further improvements and more software fixes. I do realise many Model 3/Y owners have no issues but there are plenty of owners who do have issues. Tesla Model 3/Y has definitely improved in 2024 but there is still some way to go. If Tesla thinks their car is very reliable and long lasting they need to at least upgrade their new-car warranty from the current mediocre level to be better than most others. Also, there have been numerous reports that (Australian?) car insurance premiums go up rapidly after the initial 1st year insurance is expired. The car insurers must know these BEV cars are often not repairable after many crashes as compared to ICE cars. You can Google for details.
Not for me yet but the EV market is definitely getting interesting. Government investment in charging infrastructure will hopefully make it a practical proposition for more people in the next couple of years.
No spare tyre, and you have to pay for the tyre repair kit? Sheessh… Apart from that, great car. Looking forward to the model y getting the same updates.
Nice review of the basics and pretty much as expected. However, given the removal of the stalks, it should be incumbent upon a reviewer to address this and test the indicator buttons during difficult manoeuvres. Are you able to drive around a variety of small and large roundabouts?
I like the older design better. I'm glad this refresh came out though because it dropped the prices for the current models in US, which allowed me to buy one at a great deal before the year's end
Thank you! Yep, it’s been scorching hot here - but I was surprised how well the cabin remained cool. If you park it in the sun, of course it’s going to be hot inside, but overall it’s better than some other cars I’ve tested with a full glass roof.

Hi. Just found your reviews on UA-cam and subscribed. Great content. Looking at a model Y late July this year. Any idea if the 24 will have similar updates and when it may be released here in Aus. I wonder if I could get a better deal on 23 model y once 24 is released
Hi mate. I don’t think anyone who isn’t Elon knows what’s going to happen when with Tesla! Haha. I would suspect, based on reports and rumours, though, that there will be a refreshed Model Y later this year. I don’t think you’ll get a deal on a MY23 even if there is a newer model. Tesla isn’t in that mindset from my experience. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!

Tesla May best in technology, BYD great inside and outside, ioniq someaht nice premium look from side view, MG good from price perspective and space management inside and trunk area.
These videos don't spend enough time on the software. Tesla's software is the best. Tesla integrate charging stations automatically. No other EV does this. But, not having those music apps transfer from phone to your Tesla is sad. Small price to pay. As for the driver assistance software, it continuously improves with updates. Other companies are not even close to Tesla in this department.
I’m not a tech reviewer, I am a car reviewer. I understand those aren’t mutually exclusive - but also you already knew that about the software, so why would it matter if I covered it or not? Other EVs have OTA connected live-updating maps with EV charge station data and locations.
@@therightcar I can see it was a overview and not a deep dive. Yes, other companies have maps with charging stations. However, Tesla will tell you if the chargers are available and add the stations automatically to your current route and calculated charging times to your total drive. Doesn't matter if you stop to charge up or not. A lot of Tesla's software is designed to make life easier for the driver. You can buy any EV and it gets you work. However, the reason people are choosing EVs over ICE is because of the technology inside. You should consider doing videos on the tech side of cars.
@@donalkillackey9490 Do you believe that one function would be a deal breaker for a car buyer. Just like you can't download every app onto an Apple that is available on an Android. Tesla has good reasons to control the user experience of its platform.

not just the best ev-s but also the best cars for that money... isnt that synonymous!??! why the mention... every tesla ev is the best car you can get for the price
Having watched with much enjoyment, all your reviews of late and sniggering at your fervent hatred of touch screens that require numerous inputs to activate the vehicles interior features/driving aids etc, I watched with bated breath that you actually said nothing with this Tesla's set-up... Wait, what?? So Matt, I gather that you truly love the fact that, to simply open the glovebox which takes all but a second in every other vehicle, can you please tell us, how do you accomplish this in the Tesla??
Press the button on the steering wheel and say Open Glovebox..... Pretty easy. And in 2 years of ownership something I have never needed to do other than show someone that it does it, centre storage is so good you don't need it.
Just giving you my two cents as an owner if you care, the glovebox thing is kinda annoying but I rarely use it and when I do I just voice activate it and it never fails. And I never use it when I’m driving anyways so using the touchscreen isn’t that bad. All the pros in this car would easily outweigh the negatives. Although the lack of stalks in this one is quite annoying tbh.
I’ve given up on criticising things that aren’t going to change. Brands that care about their consumers will make changes to suit the requirements of the market (VW Group, Hyundai et al, GWM Haval). But the Teslarati will never whinge about something like this. And their God, Elon Musk, isn’t going to change shit. 🤣
Looks like ive been partially banned from writing UA-cam comments. I wrote this. If I try to paste it in to comments, it disappears. If you are going to be an fool and charge your EV inside your garage, and even worse if inside your garage is actually inside your house, then be less of a fool and install a smoke alarm over your car that is interconnected to the other smoke alarms in your house. That way, when the battery goes into thermal runaway whilst charging - and don't delude yourself that "that will never happen to me" - at least you will be woken up so you dont burn to death in your sleep. And despite Musk's LIES, it happens to LFP batteries, too. If you have that smoke alarm at least you'll probably have 15 minutes to get your children out of the house and to safety UPWIND before your house burns to the ground.
And if you’re going to park your ICE vehicle in a similar place then you should DEFINITELY do all that, because the risk of fire is much greater with an ICE vehicle.
I like the redesigned front lights, looks more cohesive now. How on earth did vehicle pass ADR's with no indicator stalks? that is just silly that you have to press left handed capacity touch pads to indicate, the drive /reverse selector also, grrrr WHY, again stupid. as for the way it drives, the last Tesla I was in it was so rough and choppy I said to myself never ever again, that said electric drive is great and regen works well, that said for safety I would prefer dual motor (re: AWD) to get all that torque to the ground, the RWD version sounds like its going toe a PITA to drive in wet conditions with all the nannies going crazy to keep the vehicle from over-steering and its not like you can drive an electric drive vehicle on throttle. as for the rest of the tech, meh, simplified in their view but for the rest of us to complicated.
Thanks mate. Yep, there are some things that feel almost like they’re unconventional for the sake of going against norms. But hey, I was surprised how easy it is to adapt.
Hi JUST WANT TO KNOW THAN IN TUNNEL WHEN YOU WERE EXPERIENCING PHANTOM BRAKING WERE YOU USING THE AUTO PILOT OR IT DO PHANTOM BRAKING WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY IS WELL?
Why Tesla doesn't sell "indicator/wiper/drive select stalk modules" and/or "driver display modules" which could be easily fitted at service centres, makes absolutely zero sense. Maybe Elon Musk has adopted the principal "The best customer is no customer", but I for one can't see for the life of me how you'd activate the indicators to exit a small roundabout, quite useful for not running down pedestrians and cyclists thing. Totally great car other than the fact it's completely dangerous, looks really smart, fast and decent range, plus the supercharger network.

Insurance for EVs is now punishingly expensive… I know someone who is paying nearly $4K on their model 3. Resale is also bad… may be worth a look at a second hand one if you can afford the insurance.
How can a car with the indicators on the steering wheel be great? I have an idea let’s put the brake pedal in the rear and give the passenger the accelerator pedal.
I had "phantom braking" when turning right at roundabouts with my previous vehicle so much so that I switched city-stop (as ford calls AEB) off but it always switched back on when i restarted, annoying but what can you do? with the Nissan X-Trail I get this weird phantom brake issue when the vehicle is going straight ahead but the vehicle in front turns right at the intersection in their own dedicated lane, this happens only with Pro-Pilot (re: Adaptive cruise) that the AEB sensor slams on the brakes based on the front sensor but the rear there is always dufus tailgating and catches them out as the rear AEB sensor eithe ris over-ruled by the front one is not calibrated well. either way its stupid but thats technologyfor you.
How are these vehicles allowed on our roads with giant touch screens? When even touching your mobile while stoped at traffic lights can result in a huge fine ?

It's not as simple a choice as the feature list would indicate. The Model 3 is more efficient and, as a result, can get similar range with a smaller battery and therefore a much lighter car. The driving feel between the two is very different. Think sports car with a smooth and instant power delivery for the Model 3 vs a traditional large ICE sedan feel for the Seal.
Nah I'm taking the Highland. If it were the old model 3 I was would have preferred the seal. But this car, the only thing the seal beats it at is only the range and stalks. Apart from that I still can't see the he seal beating the Highland.

And you missed the best EV ... by a country mile. The Polestar 2. The cars you showed are very 'meh' while the Polestar oozes premium. The Polestar does not have a dedicated EV platform, but what it does have is a beautifully sorted chassis, premium interior, great range, proper switchgear, etc. Out of the cars you mentioned, only the Ioniq6 comes close, and for a similar specced car it is more expensive than the Polestar.

The Polstar in base specification is dearer by 7k is slower and has the same range and misses out on things like ventilated seats compared to this Tesla. The market clearly does not think they are the best ev by a country mile looking at sales figures.
The Polestar is only worthwhile if you’re happy paying for optional packages for things that are standard spec in cars that are $20+ grand cheaper. Lovely if you are though

Спасибо за хороший обзор. Это моя мечта. Когда нибудь я куплю себе Tesla Model 3
Hey matt, great review, yeah that warranty is a bit of a letdown, not the best
Not for me yet but the EV market is definitely getting interesting. Government investment in charging infrastructure will hopefully make it a practical proposition for more people in the next couple of years.
Yep, we need to catch up on infrastructure!
No spare tyre, and you have to pay for the tyre repair kit? Sheessh…
Apart from that, great car. Looking forward to the model y getting the same updates.
Hopefully maintaining the indicator stalks though

I wonder when the performance will be announced…
A few months. Or whenever the stock price slides again 🤪

Nice review of the basics and pretty much as expected. However, given the removal of the stalks, it should be incumbent upon a reviewer to address this and test the indicator buttons during difficult manoeuvres. Are you able to drive around a variety of small and large roundabouts?
Yeah as I said in the review you get used to it.
There would have to be something wrong with you if you couldn’t handle it.

Thanks mate. Glad you found it helpful!
Beautiful car!👍😎👍
I like the older design better. I'm glad this refresh came out though because it dropped the prices for the current models in US, which allowed me to buy one at a great deal before the year's end
Thanks for your thoughts! I heaps prefer this look to the old one. But it’s subjective!
The newer one looks much better.
I dislike the new headlights.
When will it be available in the US?

Great review.
You mentioned it was 38° hot that day...did you have Any issues with the sunroof?.
Thank you!
Yep, it’s been scorching hot here - but I was surprised how well the cabin remained cool. If you park it in the sun, of course it’s going to be hot inside, but overall it’s better than some other cars I’ve tested with a full glass roof.
@therightcar we've been in heavy research trying to decide between this tesla and the new byd seal.
Thanks for replying...much appreciated.

@@lyndonp3391same, what versions of the seal have you driven. What's going to sway you one way or the other?
@stevenleonards4843 It's early days yet, Steve. we've only literally sat in a Tesla, and as far as i heard, the byd seal is only out to view/test hopefully January in Sunny Portugal 'hence the sunroof question'.
Haven't even test driven an electric car yet!.
You mentioned that not having dedicated buttons for car set-up is a cost saving measure. This is off course true but it also fits the best part is no part philosophy. I set those things over three and a half years ago and have not touched them since (I have a 2020 Model 3). How much extra would you be prepared to pay for those extra buttons?
Personally if I could get a Model 3 with buttons, stalks, a shifter and a HUD, I’d pay $5000 more.
You haven’t used your stalk indicators since 2020 too?

What a terrific question!
The real appeal of the Tesla is its simplicity. The best part is no part. Musk is creating a minimalist ecosystem that others can adapt easily. This is Master Plan 3. Make it cheaper, better, faster. Prove the technology is better.
Great review
Thanks!
@@therightcar good to know. Thanks. Hopefully prices dont go up. The model y at current price is quite good i think but thats also about my limit too. Waiting for my current lease to run out in july. I believe it does.
It doesn't, unfortunately.
What charger do most people use?
That is a question with varied answers. Depends on the situation, the location…
What’s the difference between 18 and 19 inch wheels? I’m new to cars and i never understood the difference other than the size..
the smaller the more comfortable the ride as there's more air in the tire. the bigger the more control.
@@81springbrook96 what’s better?
About 1 inch.
But surely I can play music from my phone via Bluetooth?
@@donalkillackey9490 Do you believe that one function would be a deal breaker for a car buyer. Just like you can't download every app onto an Apple that is available on an Android. Tesla has good reasons to control the user experience of its platform.

Thanks mate. I’ll be doing a review of the Seal shortly… it’s not without its quirks too!
what kind of $ is that?
@@sr20trx there are easier methods which have been round for a while.
@hsv215i maybe so....butttt not really an issue either way is it?
Certainly not the dig in the menu people seem to think it is being the point.
Needs to be a hatch or lift back. In an ideal world an estate would be great. I like stalks therefore it’s a non runner for me..
Thanks 🙏 a wagon / estate would be great.
Just get the Y then
Looks like ive been partially banned from writing UA-cam comments.
@@oggyoggy1299 I have a smoke alarm over my car in my garage for that very reason. Do you?

So you don't like it then.

Tesla is the global leader in EC
but worst when it comes to putting the cars together
a friend bought a TESLA S Plaid 2023 it was one of the worst build quality I have seen on a car he returned the car and the new one was no better so after threatening to cancel the purchase he got a 3 car and it was better assembled so Tesla can if they want or was it just luck
but after this when I pass by a Tesla now I stop and look at the build quality and most of them look terrible
a ford focus has better build quality
so Tesla has quite a lot to learn when it comes to assembling a car
Okay, fair enough.
Insurance for EVs is now punishingly expensive… I know someone who is paying nearly $4K on their model 3. Resale is also bad… may be worth a look at a second hand one if you can afford the insurance.

I dont think I'd be happy with that phantom braking issue. Accident waiting to happen.
Yeah it’s a bit concerning. I kept a close eye on the rearview mirror each time because, well, Sydney drivers love to tailgate!!

I disagree
Nah I'm taking the Highland. If it were the old model 3 I was would have preferred the seal. But this car, the only thing the seal beats it at is only the range and stalks. Apart from that I still can't see the he seal beating the Highland.
@therightcar can you drive both the premium and the performance please, and extensively test its auto pilot, ability to steer on long stretches of highway

Too expensive for base model especially with no inclusions. another 1000 extra atleast.
BTW, where I work we have a large number of employees. In the carpark I see 3 Tesla model 3's. I know the owners of 2 of them. Both of them are jealous of my car ... a Polestar 2. The comment one of them said "wow .. that interior looks great. In the Tesla we get nothing!"
Good point. I did miss the Polestar. It’s a great thing especially now it’s RWD at base level.
It may look cool but it’s an inferior EV compared to the Tesla
'Made in china' - just say NO.
LOL - Tesla's Shanghai factory has the highest build quality of any Tesla factory on the planet, including Tesla Germany (Giga Berlin).
