I don't care if it's a remaster of a previous upload, it's still one of my favourite animated science fiction movies so once again I thoroughly enjoyed it! 😊
Thanks for this blast from the past: I saw the New World (Roger Corman) release of Fantastic Planet way back when, and it's a tribute to the flick that maybe only seeing the flick twice since 1973~4 (and not having seen it in the last 25 years at least), it's something I really haven't forgotten--that is, the imagery. The plot? I dunno...it's kinda like Octavia Butler's Dawn, where aliens pick up the remaining humans after we've blown ourselves up, but that don't matter--it's the imagery that's stuck with me. Thanks again!
I've always wondered why more Sci/Fi Classics have not been produced as Animated Features! I still hold that the only way 'Hothouse' by Brian Aldiss (among several others!) could be done properly, is in animated form!
Thanks for your review. Did Czechoslovakia put out a lot of offbeat animation? I've seen a short that was highly praised about that time. The Simpsons mocked Czech animation in one of their episodes.
Yeah, there were a lot of weird animated things coming out of Czechoslovakia for a while. I'm not too familiar with any of it, but I do know it's a thing.
This is one of my favorite animated movies from France It was aired as a double bill on TCM on their midnight selections series with belladonna of sadness
I think it's an interesting film and I agree anyone who enjoys animation should see it, but at the same time it feels like the plot is in service to justify mildly disturbing imagery. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, but I'm a bit ambivilent about it. One of the odder things about it, I think, is that the name of the main character (Ter) and the name of the humans (Om) are homophones in French of the words for "Earth" and "Men," yet this wasn't picked up by the translation into English. In a weird way, I'm not even sure the ending can be called a "twist" given they say from the very start what is what.
It is a bit too much for me. I’ve seen it a few times, and it just didn’t take. I think too trippy and too much fantasy for my taste. That said, it is still worth a watch, so you can decide for yourself.
I had a hard time staying awake during this movie. Finally made it on the third pass. I blame the soundtrack. I dismiss this film as early 70s psychedelia that only college kids can enjoy... Terry Gilliam was creating animation for Python since at least 1969. Are we sure who influenced whom? Convergent evolution perhaps?
I think it's an inevitable result of the process of cutout animation. When Russians use cutout animation (Glass Harmonica) it looks like Monty Python. When a French production in a Czech studio uses cutout animation, it looks like Monty Python.

I remember seeing this way back on TV must have been in the mid 70's .
This is such a great movie and on so many levels: artistically, musically (sound track) also the voice acting. Still relevant to be sure.

I might have seen this very early in my life. I was 7 in '73. I do remember this was scary AF when I first saw it.
Great movie saw this movie on dvd in 2007 got the DVD from my library 😊
I really don’t care that much about the movie, but the soundtrack is - as mentioned - fantastic. A must have.
Great stuff over morning coffee
Agreed 😊
French roast...? :)

I was twelve when I first saw this movie, and I was suitably impressed. It was a far cry from LOONEY TUNES, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Wow, I think I saw this film years ago. You can get many ideas from it. I
you are awesome.
Thank you, good sir!

Great film with a terrible, cop-out ending
Are you referring to the Oprah ending?
"And you get a planet! And you get a planet!"
