Great song I'd never heard before...some chord changes and a key change that Noel G would take a week to work out. Rips off a Blues Brothers riff a bit this though. That's ok. No musicians were harmed in the making I assume.
They used to follow this song with a cover of “Time is Tight” in their set lists back in the day, so it’s less a “rip-off” than a purposeful nod to Booker T’s original. To add even more layers: they chose to bite that particular riff as a goof on Elvis Costello, who had lifted it one year earlier on his song “Temptation”, from the “Get Happy!!” album. Costello, of course, served as Squeeze’s producer on the album that features “In Quintessence” (“East Side Story”)- that is, he produced every song besides “In Quintessence” (which was instead helmed by pub-rock luminary Dave Edmunds). All this for the moment where Costello hears this lone “East Side Story” track with whose creation he was not involved, and the theft-of-a-theft is revealed to him, and the Squeeze dudes bust a gut… Commitment! To! The Bit!
Such a great song
Still criminally underrated band.

The bass line deffo rips off Time is Tight by Booker T and the MGs, still another great track from Difford and Tilbrook!
