It always amazed me that Chris could write such sensitive lyrics from the female perspective. Another fine example is "She doesn't have to shave." There are so many layers of genius in this song. From the lyrics that are so beautifully written that they create a movie in your mind's eye as you listen to Glenn's chord progression. It's just a perfect little pop song.
I want to add, that man's world can be just as tedious and stifling too. Humans are a strange and needy lot. Modern conveniences and pleasures not withstanding.
1:32-1:57 Employs the same effect as in Up The Junction. The music goes up in key for the bit where the story takes a turn for the worse. Makes for a real old British kitchen sink feel "Fed up with the glory..." / "And now she's two years older..."
Nailed it! I always thought Squeeze was in the same league as Elvis. Intelligent lyrics, great chord changes, unique vocal styles. Another one to check out in that category - John Wesley Harding. Peace!
The crown of the kingdom is given to the woman The kingdom of the kitchen where she says she shouldn't, There on the stainless steel her cigarettes and matches Whistles to the radio to every hook she catches, But the frowns Eider downs, Tie her down But she likes to wear the crown of the kingdom. She like the recipes a touch of oriental Steaming up the windows burning egg on metal, Sees in a catalogue a shiny new appliance Another role swallowed by the wonders of science, Lobster hands Omelette pans, Understand How the crown can stick like jam in her kingdom. He's been so busy and she's been neglected, The problem is computed and always it's rejected, Out of her heart I catch a spark, And being smart The crown is left out in the dark now there's no kingdom. Fed up with the glory she abdicates her title Sitting at a bar stool she gives her day's recital, The family watch in horror As she staggers up the hallway Makes herself a sandwich As they're looking through the doorway, She goes to bed Leg by leg, Nothing's said There's no crown upon her head there's no kingdom. Press the button on the toaster It's a woman's world, Tuck the sheets in on the bed It's a woman's world, Take your apron from your holster It's a woman's world, Shoot the crown off of your head It's a woman's world. It's a woman's world It's a woman's world It's a woman's world It's a woman's wooorrrld!!!! Press the button on the toaster It's a woman's world, Tuck the sheets in on the bed It's a woman's world, Take your apron from your holster It's a woman's world, Shoot the crown off of your head It's a woman's world.
Gilson is such an underrated drummer.
Always loved this track.

Classic Squeeze! Love it! Great tune from perhaps their best album. God I'm old! Doesn't seem so long ago.
How is it possible that my life has flashed by so quickly?
This is an intelligent and well crafted song! The keys changes and vocals and the chorus genius hook! Like a well written novel put to a music

Tilbrook is on a whole different level.
A VERY lively performance from Gilson even though I assume they're miming!
He only knows how to play one way. And good to see he got dressed for the occasion too.
Push a button on the toaster x
Lobster hands, omelette pans...
my favorite!
Don Snow instead of Paul Carrack.
The crown of the kingdom is given to the woman
The kingdom of the kitchen where she says she shouldn't,
There on the stainless steel her cigarettes and matches
Whistles to the radio to every hook she catches,
But the frowns
Eider downs,
Tie her down
But she likes to wear the crown of the kingdom.
She like the recipes a touch of oriental
Steaming up the windows burning egg on metal,
Sees in a catalogue a shiny new appliance
Another role swallowed by the wonders of science,
Lobster hands
Omelette pans,
Understand
How the crown can stick like jam in her kingdom.
He's been so busy and she's been neglected,
The problem is computed and always it's rejected,
Out of her heart I catch a spark,
And being smart
The crown is left out in the dark now there's no kingdom.
Fed up with the glory she abdicates her title
Sitting at a bar stool she gives her day's recital,
The family watch in horror
As she staggers up the hallway
Makes herself a sandwich
As they're looking through the doorway,
She goes to bed
Leg by leg,
Nothing's said
There's no crown upon her head there's no kingdom.

Some lines in there I could never make out before thank you FPM
Some of these lyrics are not accurate. It’s not rejected it’s interjected. There’s a lot of little mistakes.
