    Nice solution. All creative people have to make a thing backwards not backwards periodically. It never goes away no matter how many times you do it.

    Great project Wesley….thanks for posting. One frustrating thing with branding irons is what to do if the burn/brand does not come out as dark as you would like. Repositioning the brand in the exact same position to get a bit darker can be difficult. I made a small frame from wood that my brand nestles into. I clamp the frame to my project and then my branding iron can be lifted and placed again in the exact same location.

      I use a cheap infrared thermometer gun to check the temperature of my branding iron as I heat it up. That way I'm (mostly) sure of getting a good brand on the first try. 580°F seems good for branding wood.

    • @nickcody7257
      @nickcody7257 2 роки тому +1

      @@KarlBunker Interesting, I could also see adding a $10 bbq grill thermometer via a hole in the back. Some of them go up past 800F. That way you can always see how hot it is or if it is cooling down too much.

    The ultimate plot twist at the turning stage would be for the material turned by the not real wood turner, using not real wood turning tools, to turn out to not be real wood. Either plastic or MDF.

      @@WesleyTreat : Hah, and here I was going to go back and rewatch to see if all the footage of milling it was flipped. :)
      I wouldn't worry about "stealing" This Old Tony's joke. He does that kind of "impossible shortcut" gag at least once a video, so at this point it would be hard to think of one where he _hadn't_ done something similar, and the maker-video world would be needlessly impoverished if that meant nobody else could do them, or could be inspired by his type of humor.

    • @WesleyTreat
      @WesleyTreat  2 роки тому +1

      If you mean set screws, they wouldn't work because the holes in the mounting plate aren't threaded, so there would be nothing to hold the screw. In the end, one screw worked fine because the cutout for the date piece came out more accurate than I expected. It doesn't rotate at all like I had anticipated.
