There are so many wannabes on you tube that like to think themselves intelligent. You on the other hand actually are, and it's your openmind analysis that makes you so good and very enjoyable to both watch and debate with.
Never loose your open mind or your, confidence Robert. You're the best on UA-cam

    I absolutely love this series!
My personal head canon is that Meagor was much more sympathetic prior to exile. Similar to Daemon and Viseras ( Take the scene when Meagor presents Blackfyre to his brother and he says " Do not kneel to me brother, take this sword and wield it in my service " I imagine a Meagor holding back tears and feelings of validation from his brother who loved him regardless of his failings. My reading was that Maegor felt the constant pressure from those around him to live up to the image of his father and his brother made him feel worthy of their fathers legacy. Exile must have been the ultimate betrayal in is eyes and coming home to find his brother dead, with no closure is where the cruelty really began.

Hi Robert, love your work, big fan. I also study European medieval history. You know how some of the events and personalities in J.R.R. Martin’s work echo historical analogies (Aegon 4 like Henry 8, Aegon the Conqueror Luke William the Conqueror etc). I can’t help but wonder if Maegor echos Russian Tsar Ivan 4 the Terrible. Also cruel, loved torture, many wives few surviving heirs. Seems very similar…

I would love to see Brian Blessed as a Baratheon. He has exactly the sort of bo bombastic delivery I expect, even if he's probably older than most Baratheons in the story.

    1. I had the same experience with the Taj Mahal, first time I saw it. It awoke in me an appreciation of lesser architecture, somehow.
    2. Re someone's question, but is Timur considered to be a cruel leader next to Genghis and Atilla? Lemme refresh my memory, I been fed a lot of pro-Mughal stuff
    edit: darn, Baghdad 1401..
anything else extraordinary, personally cruel ?

I really feel the only way the could properly do Aegon's Conquest is as an event. It's not so much a compelling drama story as it is a series of people bending the knee to him or losing to him very quickly. That would best as a movie whereas the events of Maegor The Cruel could properly work well as a 3 season show maybe. It would have to start with Aegon's death and show and older Viseyna from the movie. They could call it "Sons Of The Dragon" but the irony will be that Aegon The Conqueror was infertile and needed heirs to continue on the prophecy and all the work him and sisters did so he choose to elevate Rhaneys child as his heir. My guess is his father was some nameless Westeros commoner, a singer or musician as the books suggest. It would come really full circle if Aenys real father sang "A Song Of Fire & Ice". Maegor was definitely born of Aegon but some kind of dark blood magic I suspect. He definitely is his mother's son to a fault probably.

    Hello 👋

  • @SelphieTheNutter

That's the thing that piss's me off about GRRM. He hasn't got a clue about Magic and Spiritual belief. It's just thrown in to make it a fictional world.
I was reading a article on Google today where Martin was criticising Gandalf's death in Lord of The Rings. Saying how he wouldn't have revived him. That to me says everything. It shows just how ignorant GRRM is to spiritual belief and Magic.
Gandalf's death sceene is about overcoming fear and having faith in yourself. Gandalf is the chosen of the wizards to be the heavens voice. Middle earth's heavenly guiding light. Saruman gave in to fear and joined Sauron. The Balrog is the embodiment of Gandalf's fear. The Balrog is the reason Gandalf wanted to avoid Moria. The Balrog, corruption of Morgoth, everything Gandalf is afraid of. To wield magic, you must have confidence and belief you can make your, spell work. Most of Gandalfs excursions have been against the minions of Sauron, not the dark lord and he's Nazgul. Gandalf up until this point has yet to prove to himself that he can succeed against Sauron generals. Gandalfs death is about him proving to himself, that he can succeed (the heavens already know). When he faces the Balrog, he is facing his fears. The fears that stopped him being named The White Wizard from the beginning. He proves to himself and the heavens that he can succeed against Sauron, and that his strength of conviction is great enough for him to be willing to lay down his life for the sake of middle earth. After overcoming his fear, he is reborn as Gandalf the White, more powerful white wizard that Saruman ever was. The fact GRRM doesn't understand this, shows hiw little he understands Spiritual beliefs and magic. Which explains why he thinks Fire spirits can be killed by their own element. Elemental spirits can only be killed by their opposite. GRRM may be able to write a good political drama, but he hasn't got a clue how to write about magic and spirituality/religion. Sorry to disappoint you GRRM, but magic is Science. The only difference is that magic is done on a instinctive level. Requiring no knowledge of the science the spiritual plane uses to create the spell. That is literally the only difference. The scientific community doesn't belive the spiritual plane is even real 90% of the time, and when it does, it doesn't often trust it, hence why it insists on trying to be self sustaining. Spiritualists on the other hand (at least true belivers like Gandalf) have compile faith in the spiritual plane. They are just a voice for the force that weilds science to create our world. They aren't in charge, they are just messagers. They are trusted with power because they believe in everything the spiritual is and does and that is why the spiritual plane make every spell work the way it's intended to, because a true bnliver shares the same will as the spiritual plane itself.

Peoples opinions of Maegor make me sick. True he could be cold and ruthless before he almost died. But the fact that they are too judgemental to notice the difference between him before he almost died, and him after does my head in.
Before he almost died he was ruthless but would have never turned on Aenys. Yet after, he becomes so brutish that everyone is a target even family.
I think you hit the nail on the herd with your one video. Brain damage from the blow that almost killed him, turned his ruthless nature unstable. The fact that people are too judgemental to accept that might be the reason why p*ss' me off.
