Keith Davis, so basically even seeing something like a resurrection you wouldn’t believe it? Or are you saying you’d have to exhaust all possible explanations before that? Or are you saying you would have a possible explanation, like infection, and use that as the most likely reason? Just looking for clarification.

I honestly love the brotherhood without banners because there’s something so tragic yet honorable about their cause. They’re fighting for the people of Westeros. The farmers, inn keepers and simple folk who are often forgotten yet the most impacted but the war. They do bad things obviously but they have a common cause to achieve it and there are some truly lovable and memorable personalities throughout the bunch. They feel broken and there’s a sense they are on a pointless quest to achieve what they originally set out for but I still thoroughly enjoy every chapter they are in. Love the vid Robert!

I really want to see the Brotherhood rallying common folk when the Others come knocking (imo past the Neck). Almost taking a Gandalf role - rallying scattered Rohirrim together.
Obviously, we don't want more wights to be added to their army... and villages and towns and farms are most at risk - as lords can't exactly take everyone into their walls.
An organised group like the Brotherhood doing this would be very cool - and fit with their theme of defending the smallfolk.

Is it at all possible that the loss of self that comes with a character's resurrection(s) is not actually linked to the time they spent dead, but to their body's worsening condition? Beric Dondarion, other than forgetting things, also shows scars, one for each of his deaths, while of course Catlyn Stark's body was first injured and then left to rot in a river for a few days. I know that time is said by the characters to have an influence, but they might not know any better. And to me, it's always seemed a bit odd that time would influence something like that. It seems a bit vague, as an explanation from G.R.R.M., the idea that it's just "well, dead people are changed by time spent dead". I mean, why would they be? People "dying" and being resurrected has happened, on a smaller scale, in real life. Sure, it's only a few minutes spent without heart beat, but other than a generally content "I survived something traumatic and should now live my life to the fullest" the only changes are due to physical changes : the brain wasn't oxygenated for too long and some cells died, and such (I'm not a doctor, if you couldn't gather xD)
This question might seem useless: whether it's the body's damage or something to do with the "soul", the results are the same, aren't they? But actually, no, they're not. Because Jon has died (probably) in a cold area surrounded by ice, and ice preserves. And I know there is this whole Ghost thing, and him death-warging, and I understand how spending days in the mind of a wolf could change someone. I'm just thinking that the changes due to his death might not be as extreme as we've seen before. Lady Stoneheart spent only days dead, and so, probably, will Jon. If time was the main factor, then Jon would emerge a vengeful madman. I don't think he will, and I think this explains why he wouldn't, even not taking into account the Ghost thing.
Wow this is a long comment, I hope I explained myself clearly enough, english isn't my main language. Thanks for reading :) and thanks for this awesome video!

Im glad you said this. Ive felt that in Stannis' case people who have judged him as a follower of Rhllor are not quite understanding the situation. Stannis goes along with Rhllor because it had produced results for him in a tangible way. The shadow babies, he sees visions in the fire, etc... If i saw these things i would also think that there was some truth to the religion insofar as it produced these kinds of results. He'd drop Rhllor in a second if it felt it wasnt an advantage to him.

Although it doesn't seem likely, I truly hope that cooler heads prevail when Lady Stoneheart comes into contact with Jaime & Brienne. It would be amazing to see them having to fight their way out of it through a trial by combat but it also would inevitably lead to them both being hurt even if they aren't killed. It would be far more ideal for them to be helping in the events to come if they haven't had to endure such an event. Obviously, George wouldn't let something like that keep him from letting them get hurt, if anything he might want them to be hurt coming into the final conflict to add more drama to the situation. I will quit contradicting myself. My point is that I have a soft spot for Jaime & Brienne and I want them to be okay.

    • @lalywindland5764
      @lalywindland5764 4 роки тому +3

I have a soft spot for Jaime & Brienne and I want them to be okay, too. The series showed them waaay darker than they were in the books. Ironically, they are both innocent of the Red Wedding and they both honored their vows to Catelyn Stark, yet Lady Stoneheart wants to punish them for it. In the books, Jaime's only sins are: his relationship with Cersei, but we are in a world where it is legal to marry your cousin, aunt or niece and the royal family had had incestuous marriages for 300 years, and letting Bran fall off the tower (Bran falls out of shock, Jaime stops his fall, Cersei panics and Jaime lets Bran fall). Jaime never kills his cousin or forces himself on Cersei near Joffrey's corpse like in the show. Also, Brienne never kills northerners savagely for having hanged tavern girls, like in the show, frightening even the soldier Jaime. She only kills in self defense, much later. She never shoves around prisoner Jaime just because he is taunting her, because she is above hurting a man in chains until he attacks her with a sword and she has to protect herself. She even helps him ascend the stairs of the dungeon when he stumbles, although she despised him back then. Catelyn Stark had sworn to Brienne that she wouldn't give her a task that was dishonorable, in exchange for her service, and that is exactly what she did, forcing her to lure Jaime into a trap, although Brienne had told her the truth of what had happened. The last we hear of Jaime and Brienne is uncle Kevan Lannister telling imprisoned Cersei that they had gone missing in the Riverlands. So something happened there. My guess is that Lady Stoneheart would want to hurt Jaime and Brienne and would not believe them, despite them telling the truth, and that she will try to reenact the Red Wedding using them, or would throw them in the depths of a cave, like in Jaime's dream.

Thank you Robert I really enjoyed this. There are some collaborations you do that I like more than others and I enjoyed this one. I’ve mostly got my ASOIAF ppl I listen to down to: you, Rawrist, Alt Shift X, Preston, and Talking Thrones. Gray Area sometimes but I don’t like when she denigrates them show. Preston does it in videos I don’t watch but stays away from it in his theory videos and Rawrist doesn’t do it in a way that bothers me. Same with Talking Thrones. I got so tired of all “Season 8 is trash” videos from other folks. I loved the show. I think D & D did a wonderful job with what they had to work with and I loved the ending. It made me cry. I won’t get into everything I loved about it on here but I learned at a very young age when I saw the animated version of Sleeping Beauty that books and stories don’t always play out the way they’re written on screen because A. They need to streamline to fit a budget and so it doesn’t drag on forever B. They’re appealing to a whole different audience along with those of us who read the books. I thought they did a great job with such a massive world and they had no source material; only points they needed to hit in the end and they did a good job with what they were given. Anyway, there is a maturity about the channels I named above that I appreciate. I’m definitely gonna check Radio Westeros out bc I really enjoyed her commentary. I don’t mean to be rude but I wish you would do another video on Patchface. Him and Coldhands are two of my favorite mysteries in ASOIAF and I could not get thru the one you did with Disputed Lands. I just couldn’t. I’m not trying to be mean but she drones on snd on and half a f what she says is way off where I think GRRM was trying to go. Most of what she said didn’t have sh*t to do with Patchface. You and Alt Shift X do a great job explaining things in depth but in a interesting way that holds our attention. I would have asked you in a DM so I didn’t have to put her on front street like this but this comment section is the only way I know how to get a hold of you. I really appreciate your contributions to this community. I do wish there were more Black Women involved in making videos like these. Quentin, one of the Black Men in this community, went down a road I’m just not feeling and I unsubscribed. The “season 8 is trash” bullsh*t is nothing I’m interested in. I’m tired of the arrogance and ppl trying to make those of us who really did love the show, feel like we are somehow not as intellectually astute as they are. Black Women are one of the most educated demographics so my enjoyment has nothing to do with intellect, and everything to do with the fact that I accepted long ago it wasn’t like the books and I was entertained by it’s content. Anyway, this was a wonderful Collab and I’ll definitely be checking her out.

Re: the non-cost of raising Ser Beric … 1) I think the magic has to have more of a cost when it is intentional. When the gods want to thrust something on you, the only cost is the resulting sense of obligation - which is probably part of the reason why people innately indisposed to that sense of obligation are not favored with such gifts; and 2) it does cost him, in that he ages and distorts, so that he is hardly recognizable. You may well argue that by continuing to live, he of necessity comes out with a net benefit, but it would still be a torment to a young, proud, capable person to see all that drain from him so rapidly.

Catelynn was already in early stages of decay, her soul wondered in the darkness beyond death for so long that all that came back was pure hatred and desire for revenge. The Cat we knew IS dead. LS is a whole new character.
Now, Jon for ex, his soul? mind? [Not sure what term is cannon] will go into Ghost and his body will be taken to the ice cells most likely. So both his sould and body will be preserved more so than Cat's.

No, we do have already a monarch’s point of view :
*Daenerys*, who is living already as monarch,
& we already have the perspective of another true heir, an uncrowned king / dauphin..
..in “Jon”, who is already as much a king as he shall be when newly arisen. He cannot arise as more or less a king than he already is!
So this point that ‘we never have a king’s view’ it is invalid in my accounting - unless :
      • one believes that we are allowed only a female monarch’s perspective, but when it comes to a male monarch only this is forbidden
      • one believes that “Jon” shall be officially recognized as king / come unto his reign while dead, & thus shall arise as a fully-realised monarch in a manner that he is not now as yet.
Myself, I see no reason why any of this should be so, nor reason why any of these factors should suddenly alter the matter of access to his mind & experiences.
As to not having access to his point-of-view after resurrection on account of resurrection?
It would be a dodge of literary integrity, & needless, truly.
      Not only does he like anyone still in fact have a perspective after resurrection, obviously, but also : his situation is not the same as that of those we have already found to be cut off of access to perspective;
he shall not in fact suffer the same fate in several significant ways as does C./L.S.H., nor that of most others for that matter who would undergo such an ordeal.
      Why? How?
      Because :
      • he is of rare power; his soul shall be changed by wedding more closely with that of Ghost, Ghost, within the corps of whom his soul shall be naturally inclined to take refuge, to flee into; it shall not be wandering in limbo or lost to true connection unto the corporeal world in the same sort of ruinous manner discussed in the above video-essay
      • his body shall be preserved in ice; thus he shall not face decay in the manner that his adoptive stepmother did.
This at minimum; how else his circumstances may differ remains to be seen.
Regardless, what we can be sure of is that he shall suffer a painful cost, but he shall also not loose himself in the same manner as others do in these other cases.
His soul will be compounded, but not unmooredly adrift or effectually partially shredded.
I see no reason to presume that we should be unable to dance with his thoughts after this, truly!

I know this is completely ridiculous but ol girl mentioned Caitlyn dying north of the wall and and Robert related stoneheart to beric losing bits of himself and i thought WHAT if ladystoneheart breathed her life into john snow!!! Stannis sent "arya" to the wall so if shes chasing her children it would make sense for her to go there!!! John isnt slive to say it isn't arya and jeyne will likely br too afraid to admit she isn't. Lady stoneheart arrives, sees its not arya, requests to see john snow who is laid out near the weirwoods and remembers that rob named him heir and kisses life into him
🙄 cant believe I typed that

Why are you ashamed? I like it. I think it’s a lot better than some of the other ideas I’ve heard in these comment sections and there is evidence to support it. Kat does feel guilty for the way she treated Jon and her giving up her life for his would be a perfect ending for that character. I don’t think it will happen bc I think the pieces are there for Melisandre to resurrect Jon. Unless, he wargs into Ghost ( he will in the books) after she brings him back and runs down by the Riverlands and Kat is somehow able to realize it’s Jon and brings him Back to human form. That could work too. I wouldn’t completely count something like that out. Or he runs into Nymeria’s pack and they all find Kat and she has some sort of change of heart and is able to give Ghost her kiss of life to bring Jon back to human form. That would end her and it would allow for redemption for the way she treated Jon. She would somehow make him promise to find her kids and look out for them. Promise me NED except “promise me Jon.”

If Jaime is sentenced to a trial by combat, wouldn't Brienne fight as his champion because of the left hand situation? I can't see her just standing by while he has to fight.

Isn't beric resurrected before the dragons are born? I always took this as an actual divine intervention, not magic like melisandre uses.

I don't believe so. The dragons being born are the last chapter of the first book but its kind of unclear the timeline of when beric was set out\when he die\the comet\the dragons. George keeps it ambiguous on purpose im sure

Second, you are assuming the beautiful Lady Gwen had her hair done professionally.
Lastly, many of us feel Robert looks even more ruggedly handsome with his current hairstyle.
