Imagine the greatness of a man who reject his birthright to be a KING and instead go to the frozen waste to spend his life, biggest badass move of the show
I refuse to pretend I didn't ugly cry when Aemon was dying D: I loved him so much as a character. He's one of the few people in the book that you never see do anything cruel or whatever. He's just helpful, smart, and good-seeming (I know he's gone now, but with GRRM you can't assume anyone is fully good ^.^)
In regards to who GRRM told about regretting killing off a character (which you talk about at 35:07 ) I mentioned this in the chat-the author he spoke with is Diana Gabaldon, author of Outlander. (trying again without any mention of where to find a write up of this story!)
Daeron stayed at Summerhall, where Aemon attended him as maester. Daeron was the oldest son, and would have been Prince of Dragonstone but he also held the palace castle when his father had left for King's Landing. It was a much better place for a person like Daeron.
It feels like at 28:55 you were about to say "and all the rest of it," but held yourself back, saying "and all those kinds of things" instead. You needn't do that - please go ahead and say "and all the rest of it," it's OK! ❤
I had a crazy thought: We have a feeling that lord commander Mormont’s raven is being controlled by bloodraven, why didn’t bloodraven just make the raven go to Maester Aemon and say something as clear as ‘Jon Snow king’(which he does say oddly enough) or even ‘Jon Snow targareyan’. Wouldn’t that have made things clear for Maester Aemon? He could have told Jon so much that he needs to know, he could have made better preparations had he been told that the expedition beyond the wall would surely fail because the others are coming? Bloodraven is obviously on the side of humanity, and he seems to definitely been controlling the raven, he could have opened a line of communication between himself and Aemon and better prepared the nights watch, or if communication is too much, he could have just said a key phrase or two here and there to “open” Aemons eyes.
Aemon Targaryen a good man a wise man and a loyal brother lived a long life filled with duty and suffering would have made a good King but so was his brother Aegon.....But a Blackfyre would have been better Long Live House Blackfyre.
I love the part in Watchers on the Wall when Maester Aemon is talking to Sam about the girl he remembers being with when he was young. "She's more real than you are!" I always wondered what Aemon was doing during that fight.
Odd how he stood out in the rain on the deck *before" hearing word of Dany. Surely a maester as highly educated as him would would know that "catching a chill" can give a man a fever. He knew his days were numbered and wasn't being super careful about keeping himself alive. What a character.
@IDG Live much apologies for missing 2 streams of the most important Targaryan personalities 😞 I hope you are well though and have a had good rest from your recent time off 🍻 I'm so happy that this topic was not covered by the questions in the stream, so let me know your thoughts whenever time permits -> In AFFC Sam recalls the Aemon once wailed from his dreams saying "A Dragon has 3 heads, but I am too old and frail to be one of them".. considering your absolutely beautiful video on Daemon & Vermithor, is it safe to say that Aemon finally realised the long lost process of dragon bonding and realised that his role was about playing the "priest" role between Dany and her dragons? Imagine the possibilities and especially against Euron who has the DragonBinder horn - probably this is why Targaryans don't need a horn to explicitly "control" their dragons.. Could you take some of the aspects discussed in the Daemon video & apply them now to Aemon and the possible implications for Marwyn & the crew in TWOW?
Great stuff as always. One request though Robert: please adjust the way you speak into the microphone, or adjust the levelling out of the sound. One minute you are really quiet, the next second you are super loud. I don't know if it's sound engineering or the way you gesticulate your words. But it's irritating and makes listening difficult. I'm forever adjusting the volume. One example: 23:40 - 23:44 27:20 There are many more throughout the entire livestream. You are projecting your words from the diapraghm as though you are giving a speech instead of just talking normally. Bloody love the content, but the sound quality needs improving.
Honestly, GRRM just got into something way over his head. He has like 6 or 7 books to write at the same time, wirh a very limited human lifespan and with a ton of stress involved. It frustrates me, because while I'm not a huge fan, I am very interested and invested in this universe. I srarted watching the show, and I kinda enjoyed season 1 and then really loved seasons 2 to 6 and also enjoyed many parts of season 7. In the interim from season 7 to 8 I got into the books and it just sucks being stuck there, with Jon dieing. I respect GRRM, but he really messed up big time here. Yes, money is money, but agreeing to do 3 TV shows, while you are in the back log with 2 book series, one of which being the one that made you even relevant, is highly irresponsible. When GoT ended, that should have been his point to release his next book. I dont care if he releases it in 3 parts. I just want the book now. At this point, its ridiculous. I get that this book will be huge and that eriting isn't easy. As a DM for a d&d group I know that coming up with stuff and integrsting it into a world, in a way that feels natural, is hard. Especially, if its such a realistic and complicated world as GRRMs. So of course its goint to take a while. But this long? Maybe splitting it into 3 or even 4 parts, would make it easier to structure it and turn out more books for the readers. It also would have tremendously helped the showrunners if he had done it back then. It really annoys me, because while this is his world and he can do to it whatever he likes, I think he owes the readers at least slme closure. Even if that is releasing what he got and saying "I'm done writong these books, here are my ideas and thats what I've gotten so far.". At least we'd be able to stop waiting. As for Maester Aemon: I loved that cgaracter in the show and enjoyed him in the books. I do think his end in the show was sad but wholesome and was much more hopeful, while in the books his death seems almost unnecessary, increadibly sad and really undignified - as realistic as it is.
I remember watching GOT and finding out that Aemon is a Targ and I was so happy about it and him teaching Jon and Sam some important lessons. 😊

Maybe the greatest Targaryen that ever lived
Smh

Great insight into a great character of the saga! 👍🏻👍🏻

Well said
Your dedication to your bloodline is admirable.
Love that final twist... Long live House Blackfyre!
BLOOD AND FYRE!!!!

Thank you so much! Great question! I'll pick this up in my next open Q&A livestream. :)
@@IDGlive thank you Robert.. and a special thank you to yourself & @History of Westeros for covering Daemon & Vermithor
Aemon is one of my favorite characters I do believe GRRM killed him too early. But I may be biased!
