A really nice product for doing the recesses on a technical model, like a building or vehicle or power armor (like the Snow Speeder model shown) is Tamiya Panel Liner Accent. Only a few colors but definitely the important ones (black, grey, light and dark rust brown). It is easy to use, and scale modelers and railroaders call it Taco Sauce (goes with everything, hard to use too much). Between that and Army Painter Tones, I get everything I need.
Technically I don't think a wash and a glaze is the same think so to use the word glaze for a wash is confusing. As far as I understand it: - a wash has some special chemical in it that breaks the surface tension so it will try to flow into the crevices and stay off the flat surfaces. - A glaze should not try to break the surface tension because you actually want it even on flat surfaces and is not made especially for going into crevices. So to use the word glaze for all things thinned down with some medium is bad practice imo. If it is a thinned down wash, it is still a wash, not a glaze.
This is the kind of vid I needed to see....... very cool application technique you are getting like a comic book quality to the shades and lines. Awesome.
I've been looking for different ways to apply washes and this was great. I did the same process to some Runewars army i was working on. Never tried the gloss coat before washing before. Cool effect I'll be taking forward. Great tips! Thank you for creating this video.
Great video. Really appreciate explaining wash to glaze to filter techniques. I have been painting for god knows how long and never really heard these terms until recently. Yes I live under a rock like a troll. Love the videos. Thank you

If I put down a gloss or semi gloss coat before applying a wash to protect color, am I able to paint over the coating? Still pretty noob at painting so I apologize if it’s a dumb question. Love the videos and Thanks for the tips!
Does anyone know what wash im going to need to paint some napoleonic french dragoons? the colors im going to use for them is dark green, red, cream white.
Do you have a specific reason for using the gloss versions of the Citadel shades? I've not used them before, but it always struck me as odd to have 'shiny shadows'.
could you use other mediums to thin down the washes? i don't have vallejo's airbrush flow improver, but i have their thinner medium. Or will this just dull down the wash without really helping it fill the recesses while keeping the raised areas clean?
Hi Rob, what is the lamp you are using for hobby, the one I'm talking about is the one at time 2:20. I'm looking for an hobby lamp but can't find any in my area. Can you help me on that thanks.

Home Depot has the large gloss or matt varnish spray cans

I've got the army painter glaze and was never happy with it, thanks for the suggestion about adding airflow improver in.
Thank you for explaining the difference so well!! Always confused me. Really like the steps too. Makes it repeatable!!

Thank you. I will check it out.
I’ve put washes through my airbrush. It doesn’t pool but it’s good for giving a layer of darkness.
Tommy D wow I would never have thought of this as I am new to it
This is cool, but I've got a Dark Angels army, so are there any highlight washes?
what paint did you use for the metal on that helmet? It looks great

If you use Vallejo airbrush thinner, wouldn’t it be logical to use Vallejo paints too?
Good video! And question: anybody have a some kind of gloss effect on miniature after using flesh wash?
So did you start with a gloss coat before the wash? It didn't look glossy.
For Kotobukiya model kits and gunpla, can this quickshade wash be applied directly to the plastic to fill in the lines and add shadow depth to pieces?
Yup, it can!
Is it bad putting acrylic on acrylic, or best to use enamel wash if an acrylic gloss. Made a few gundam and aircraft and all ruined by my wash stage 😂
If I put down a gloss or semi gloss coat before applying a wash to protect color, am I able to paint over the coating? Still pretty noob at painting so I apologize if it’s a dumb question. Love the videos and Thanks for the tips!
yep you can still paint on it :)
I'm so ready to nug out...
Cool video, keep it up!
nug out...

Do you have a specific reason for using the gloss versions of the Citadel shades? I've not used them before, but it always struck me as odd to have 'shiny shadows'.
It's to help them flow better, always hit them with a matte coat afterwards :)
Ah, I see! Thanks for the response! :)
Did you say you use the flow improver for standard paints on your palette too? Does it give a different outcome to something like matte medium?
No it just makes them not try out as fast. I matte coat everything too so its all good.
What do I do if I really don't want to use gloss ? Can I achieve the same results wit the matt versions ?
I'd like to know this too.
So...4 drops of flow aid into a completely random amount of nuln oil...got it! :)
Can you use vallejo thinners rather than flow improver to cut the wash or do you need to use the flow improver?
You need flow improver :)
What is that citadel chart behind you?
could you use other mediums to thin down the washes? i don't have vallejo's airbrush flow improver, but i have their thinner medium. Or will this just dull down the wash without really helping it fill the recesses while keeping the raised areas clean?
lahmian medium is good, any acrylic-based medium works too if you wanna hit the art store.
I saw another video where they used mineral spirits.
@@cetiah That would only work well for non-acrylics I believe. Though now I'm curious. But betting it will get weird quick.
Was that a Beck reference?
💯
