We're so thrilled that Angel Hare was included, and EXPLODED at how happy you were to draw it! Thanks for tagging us so we could show up for the premiere and for the incredibly entertaining ride. We'll wear the title of "nostalgic tragedy" with such pride.
Aw I'm so glad you enjoyed! Angel Hare genuinely is something special and I hope that I can put a few more people onto it with this video - you all ABSOLUTELY deserve it!
Urbanspook b like: "He was found with 368 stabbing wounds and 275 of them were in his genital region and next to the body was a painting called "no balls billy" "
No fr it's so unserious and then the creator throws a fit when anyone says they think it's bad. Like. Dude. If you don't want your thing to be called bad maybe write something good LMFAO
WHAT HOW DARE YOU RANK ME AT THAT- Yeah, no, absolutely fair criticisms and thanks for the kind words! Authenticity was what I was REALLY striving for with a lot of it. I do wonder if the DVD version would change the tier, since I have three new segments in it and tried to space out the audio-only ones better.
For Local58, Kris Straub actually made it to be canon with his other horror works like Candle Cove and Broodhollow. It's pretty much confirmed that Candle Cove aired on Local58, and the town Broodhollow is listed as one of the places that the channel broadcasts to. Cadavre is also a comic strip character from Broodhollow, tying everything together.
HE WROTE CANDLE COVE?! I never knew that holy shit. I definitely gotta actually check out all of Local 58 now. I’m watching this video because I pretty much never actually put any time into watching any of these series but I love hearing people talk about them 😂
@yoshida_michii Definitely read Broodhollow too. (Another fun fact: Broodhollow and Kris's colleagues' work at PennyArcade were featured heavily in the set design for the first season of Peacemaker as well. You'll see a hardcover of the first volume of Broodhollow in the abandoned bookstore where the team are based out of, and the bar that the characters frequent have PennyArcade pinball machines and have episodes of Acquisitions Inc, which Kris animates the intros for, on their TVs.)
If you're unaware, he has a collection of creepypasta called Ichorfalls (a lot of it appears in the comic so it may be redundant to you.) Kris is one of those writers who's work really affects me, so I always get excited when I see his name attached to a project. My personal favorite story to date is "The Fulcrum," though it's definitely more on the comedic side.
when the mimic said "it's time to beat my carnis" i was enlightened by the power of darian's storytelling so much that i became a meat creature temporarily
Monument Mythos has some of the dumbest shit Ive ever seen but it also made me sob violently watching a little girl grow up in a timeline thats not hers. Its profound stupidity is done with so much heart, soul, and purpose that it makes the genuine meditations and horror all the more memorable and terrifying. 10/10, best webseries lol
So, for the part about the "the man in the suit" criticism thing, i think the english translatoon says, "You nuked them" is because it was translated after the uploader received it. Thats my suspension of disbelief for that lol.
i haven’t checked out vita carnis in a while, but hearing the audio of the child gave me chills on what might’ve happened. the way vita carnis handles child death is genuinely good because once you hear the audio then it gives you chills and makes you feel bad (more bad then how you would normally feel). god i love analog horror
Holy shit, I was prepared to be so mad at the Greylock section bc of the comments but all of your criticisms are spot on. Having it on the same tier as urbanspook is still a crime tho
I get what he means by saying that UrbanSpook has potential and talent, his art was awesome and would’ve been better in a website ARG type setting imo, but I think the biggest thing is UrbanSpooks refusal to acknowledge criticism seriously. All he does is call people on Twitter slurs and deflect. He isn’t listening to any criticism and refuses to believe his content is bad, whereas I’m sure Greylocks creator would happily listen to criticism and work for improvement. UrbanSpook should absolutely be in D tier

Urbanspook should have written a book or done a true crime mockumentary, his gross horror would fit perfectly in those mediums. Doesn’t help his meltdowns
As someone who is not an analog horror person (on account of I get paranoid reeeal easily with things like this), your tape at the end is really very well done. Loved how you started off by setting up the atmosphere of "something is off here, but I can't tell what", and then used that idea of slowly drip-feeding information and ratcheting up the tension that you referenced throughout the video. The writing was good and the art was PHENOMENAL. Some of the alterations were subtle, but they were all *very* effective. If you made more of this, I would definitely give it a shot.
explaining fnaf in terms of it being its own genre is a super effective way to describe how the internet has changed the IP into smth beyond itself, which i think is why the later entries were so controversial because they didn’t “feel” like fnaf. which is interesting bc they were part of the franchise but still didn’t feel right, and it’s bc we conceptualize it as a genre! well put, my friend! also i’m 20 mins in and obsessed w this vid already so well done on the snappy start
Agreed somewhat! I do feel personally with fnaf sb ruin and somewhat with help wanted 2 And help wanted 1 too honestly I feel it feeelsss more fnaf in a sense? Especially ruin in my eyes, at least compared to the main game fnaf sb Tho with that said I def agree in that it’s became more than just a property but more of somethin to use as an effective thing overall Hell I feel the walten files does super well in that. I do kinda hope when I’m done making my costumes and the series that, it’d feel like it’s celebrating the fnaf franchise both classic and modern as well as doing it’s own thing (pfp is the head of it I making)
Honestly, if fnaf followed a formula of every 1st release was more horror and mature while every 2nd was more kid friendly with less lore than the 1st, we would like it.
I tried getting into it because of how it was being hyped by everyone, and while I enjoy the first episode with the biblical horror and found the miners incident interesting, I wasn’t too captivated by it. The plot seems more like The Stairs in the Woods with random unrelated incidents than a connected plot.
@maddiemare5093 yeah like I appreciate that the creators are giving the story room to breathe but unless you're supplementing it with wendigoon vids then it's probs best to return to greylock when it has more eps.
Dude honest to God, I introduced my ex into greylock 3 separate times completely forgetting about it and hearing different parts of the story thinking they were all form different things
People forget that the death screen of fnaf 1 is literally the eyeballs of your character hanging out of the suit your stuffed into. The games have always had some sort of gore or fucked up moments from the beginning.
it's definitely not "in your face" about it, like yes they're there, but for the most part it chooses to go for a safer route, especially involving the five children incidents (outside of maybe Into the Pit which i'm REALLY excited about)
It wasn't exactly gory, but watching the crying child in that one fnaf game get his head crushed flat and go completely limp has stuck with me *forever*
1:29:18 "Little John saved up 1million dollars to buy an apartment in New York, but when he opened the doors he was shocked to find the room was only 0.2 square meters."
Hey there, I'm the Voice Actor who sounds like the CBT guy you mention towards the end. Recent subscriber and super surprised and glad to get any sort of shoutout LOL. Not really involved in analog horror as a genre these days, but I still have a lot of good memories with it so this was super fun. Great video! Fantastic work!
Hello Mister Table, I know this isn't the place for it, but did Alfred's Justice For All finale ever come out? I asked Robby on Twitter quite a while back, and he said it would be up soon, but I never saw it
Everyone always talk about fucktoy cory being just a really disgusting inappropriate thing, but the thing I hate the most about it is that in his infinite wisdom, Urbanspook decided to name him after fucking Spazzkid. I can’t take any of it seriously because my mind is always jumping to about a dozen different Oneyplays/Sleepycabin references
it was surprising enough to make me question if cory's name actually was cory beck since that's a recurring joke on oneyplays and wonder if maybe urbanspook was referencing something else
not only do i love this video (aside from how low greylock was on the list but we're not gonna talk about that ❤ [still, you had really good points!]), but i LOVED your own analog horror at the end-- i genuinely can't believe i almost skipped it. the only thing i didn't like about it was the fact it didn't continue and isn't a full fledged series. great video! i definitely need to watch more of your content.
I'd like to note the censors in Petscop are all revealed in the form of caskets, so I wouldn't really call it lazy. It's also implied that the censors have a deeper meaning since the channel is not actually run by Paul. If you want to learn more about Petscop I'd recommend watching Nightmare Masterclass' series on it!
Oh no, I was enjoying this video. 😥 But to be fair, I think Petscop sometimes requires some kind of "weirdo who is still excited about their PhD dissertation after a few hard years" energy. At least among Internet horror series. 1000% recommend Nightmare Masterclass' series too. The parts where he goes into politics are very small. That turns some people off. I mean *I* was a fan that argued with him over politics lol. In 2020 so don't let that reflect too badly on anyone. But it sucks he lost subscribers over that stuff. He's one of the best at analyzing Internet horror media.
@@julianbello8376 oh so what the guy meant by "politics" its actually just the creator treats trans people as humans, cool, ill check out the channel then
@@fleshautomatonanimatedbyne6327 Oh no, he's a leftist and I'm a little more center-left. He talks very briefly about Petscop maybe being a critique of neoliberalism at the beginning of one video. I'm actually not sure how of it's tongue-in-cheek. We disagreed about voting/not voting for president. I am firmly Democrats are the lesser evil and get frustrated if other Americans don't vote at all, especially in swing states. So that's sort of a specific thing. He shared something he wrote on that on a different platform outside UA-cam. Some people might have other qualms with his politics but I'd bet it's the anti-woke crowd where he lost some subscribers.
38:56 just your enthusiasm at pulling out the Angel Hare pin was enough to get me to binge watch the entire series and the ongoing follow-up series. It really is a great series!
@@falconspringman30 Doubt he would know considering they were removed by Mister Manticore as they were tributes to his father who passed away and turns out, unbeknownst to Alex, apparently did something bad so he removed S3 and MD. Archives are still available for both tho.
If you haven’t heard of them before, I’d really recommend White Stag Education and Dreams of an Insomniac. Despite going in very different directions, both are smaller series in both length and popularity. And both have a lot of passion that went into telling a genuinely fascinating stories.
As much as I loved Wendigoon, he gave Angel Hare such a hard time because he watched too much analogue horror and was suspicious of such a wholesome series. so I'm SO HAPPY Angel Hare was S TIER for you!!! Also thank you for the Baroque Hour recco. horror comedy is SO hard to get right and this looks up my alley! Congratulations for surviving these and thanks for the two hour recco!
Oh I so agree with that. I love angel hare so much, as a kid who had a hard childhood and escaped into the internet, it really spoke to me. I trust Gabby with my life
I think it’s less about him being horror-brained and more about the particular brand of religious he is. The idea that an angel could be both as vulnerable and morally ambiguous as Gabby is not really in line with his understanding of angels and more with his understanding of demons.
What do you mean he gave it a hard time? He absolutely loved Angel Hare, you can see in the stream he wholeheartedly enjoyed it and even the topics of the series hit him pretty hard, I don't think you can say in many more ways how much you love a series than he did on that stream Now the theories about Gabby herself not being all that good, those are planted there by the series itself and hinted at a lot, moreso than any religious connotation or christian ideas of angels, his brand is to come up with crazy hare brained theories about every thing, he's called a lot of analog horror twists like that It feels like the first comment was made by someone who didn't watch Wendigoon praising Angel Hare for 2 hours, and I also don't think it has that much to do with a specific religious viewpoint, it's just what the series presents just thinly veiled
The thing is I felt more emotions to 2 kids that die off screen in a car crash than the entire of urban spooks series that was trying to hard to make me……mad?? …..sad…??? I really don’t know
Felix’s screams are so gut wrenching, you can feel the sheer despair and horror at what he has just done. Edd and Molly still trying to help Susan in wonderland too :(
your analog horror at the end freaked me tf out dude. I literally looked behind me out my window after the first scare and had to turn down the volume in fear at the end. nice work!
When the guy in the closet in greylock dies, and then the thing that killed him saying in a child’s voice “it’s a monster!” Is probably my favorite death in any analog horror, ever. Just because of the implications alone.
Greylock in general is awesome, this guy just cant connect the dots for some reason. Sure it opens many possibilities but they all make sense in a way that let you theorize in certain directions. This is what analog horror is all about (at least for me). He even said it in Urban Spook: You have to make sure the audience comes to their own conclusion without making it obvious because that quickly becomes stale, boring and even dumb. The pay off will always be bigger if you took your time and actually do some research or even go as far as using a programm to understand the "gargled" speech for example. That way it breaks the 4th wall instead of being just an arranged little story you listen to like a podcast or audiobook. The experience will be more similar to what you have in a DnD campaign or an escape room scenario.
Maybe I’m a bad person but I thought it was kinda funny. Like the guys dead, it’s purely doing it for its own satisfaction of being a dick It reminded me of when a villain starts singing “b b b b bad to the bone” in a movie
honestly putting Man in the Suit in A and Greylock in C is so unhinged I kinda gotta respect it. On a more serious note, since you asked for feedback on your analog horror, it doesn't make sense for a disposable camera to have "had its photos developed frequently." You use it once and that's it, that's what makes it disposable. Similarly why it wouldn't make sense to have the photos developed in small batches. If the camera has been used up, you're left with a single roll of film which would be developed all at once. It would make more sense to have it be several rolls of film, possibly alongside a disposable camera if you want that visual.
TO BE FAIR, I think it's understandable for Paul to censor the real life coordinates of the windmill, especially considering there are clues in the dialog implying he lives pretty close to it. Also some of the stuff that was censored gets shown later in the series in the hallway, like the big rotating red triangle, when Marvin walks through the hallway that isn't there in Paul's version of the game. It is also kinda implied that the other objects are what was getting censored. Tony wasn't struggling to think what to put there cuz behind ever censor there was either really something that would be revealed later or stuff that is obviously something you'd want to censor and doesn't do much for the viewer anyway.
Shockingly, a lot like scp censorship, too, most scp articles redacted with material in mind, but due to the nature of the story and how scp is written, the details have to be withheld.
I love the criticims and praise you gave, even to projects like urbanspook. its obvious you genuinely care about and enjoy analog horror. YES. ITS NOT JUST A TIER LIST. ITS A FULL REVIEW!! great work man.
I really enjoyed your analog horror at the end! The photos were chilling and the audio added so much to the atmosphere. Very impressive to see something so brief be so effective!
Something you missed about Petscop was that it wasn't him censoring things it was the family, The vague group that took over the channel afterwards so it isn't him censoring or hiding things because hes scared
Painter should be D tier, but I kinda agree with Greylock in C tier, at most B. Visuals are great, and they did genuinely spook me, but I love lore, and I had little clue to what was going on during the episodes
Just that one clip you showed from the Tangi virus, of the doctor explaining her realization of being infected, and the lengths she goes to in order to avoid being turned into something else... I was horrified to a nauseous degree. And I wish I had the courage to watch it. God. What a nightmare of a scenario.
Thank you for turning me onto Angel Hare! A lot of times I worry the indie horror on UA-cam tends to lean more towards just trying to scare rather than being just purely passionate, and Angel Hare feels like a breath of fresh air in that regard. Incredible characterization, subtle, well done, I wish the creators the best. Hell, part of me is just excited for more horror series on here with subtext and themes you can analyze like a regular short film. As for series to look out for, it’s young and clearly a very low budget project, but I’ve been really impressed with how clearly passionate the creators are about White Stag Education, and how ambiguous they’ve left things. You can just feel how much they care about trying to do this well, and I appreciate that as someone trying to become a filmmaker myself. It clearly feels like a passion project, and is primed for expansion and meaning.
those are my two favorites!! something about them always felt like it was different than others, angel hare probably because it's less scary and more of a tragic story. passion projects puts it into perfect words, they seem genuinely so thought out and like the creators are enjoying making them
I do love AH and think it is perfect as is, but a part of me wishes it would have done a Wandavision version of animation i.e. step through the different eras.
So genuinely glad to see someone calling out the lack of accessibility for hearing impaired individuals in analog horror. As someone w an audio processessing disorder who needs closed captions a good deal of the time, it's always really disheartening when a new series I stumble upon has garbled audio and no captions - even if it's not lore important audio, it kinda sucks to know that you just. don't get to enjoy that part, like everyone else. It's not just an issue with analog horror, of course, but damn if it isnt annoyingly prevalent. Especially w the amount of borderline incoherent TTS voices (if i have to hear one more gabriel mandela w/o captions i am going to lose my marbles!!!). It also kinda feels like a missed opportunity to hide additional little messages and secrets in the captions! (not obscuring any of the audio transcriptions, though, obviously. don't do that, it's not cute and kinda ruins the whole point of having the CC lol) anyway thank you again, and to anyone who read this ramble, thank you too. it's been bugging me for a long time so it's nice to hear someone talk abt it and to also be able to get it off my chest a bit. :]
I was watching this on a really small device and couldn't tell that anything was off with the pictures in your analog horror segment, and then I couldn't stop laughing at the idea that it was just regular pictures with nothing wrong with them. Watching on a monitor and seeing all the small details of the edit recontextualizes everything, but it's still really funny to think of an analog horror where nothing bad actually happens and it's just totally normal but pretends like something bad is happening. It was a really well made segment though, and a really interesting look at all those series as a whole. Another great video as usual!
I feel you, I had to watch the transition he did of the real-to-altered photo of the playset in front of the hedge 12 times before noticing the monster. I was oblivious to the monster until the third set of photos, and even then it was only for a couple. Definitely going to rewatch it on my laptop lol
1:12:12 Mentions "nuke" being anachronistic. Doesn't mention the VHS TAPE that was sent to someone with that word on it as being anachronistic VHS, or Video Home System, was released in Japan on September 9, 1976, and in the United States on August 23, 1977. This "vhs tape" with nuke on it was from 1962, literally 14-15 full years before VHS was even 1st released to the public!
I would love to hop in and give my perspective as someone who's scared by literally anything as long as the music is right, (even most of the shitty or lower tier stuff). I loved your critiques! I've seen most of these series, and I'm super excited to check out the ones I haven't seen. As for yours, I loved it too!!! The developed photo of the thing in the window really got me, and the crime scene photo made me audibly gasp. The only criticism I could see has already been mentioned in another comment, that disposable cameras don't necessarily work like that, but it definitely wasn't enough to take me out of it. Incredible job!! I'd love to see more videos like this or a continuation of your analog horror!!
@@manchezv.2503it still really shouldn't and it's not fair at all. Urbanslug was in a comment section answering questions and he says he's just winging it and doing whatever, he even said aliens aren't out of the table for the painter. I like the guy and he has potential but come on, it's a very uninformed opinion he compared what basically is a shitpost with extra steps with something someone actually puts massive effort in.
Not everyone is a fan of Greylock, kinda feel like it’s going trough the same thing as MC where it has many faults but people are really hyped about it, which is not a necessarily a bad thing either. It seems that it really is a series a lot of love is being put into, but I agree with the points made in this video. It feels as Greylock sometimes gets too ahead of itself and tries to go big every single episode instead of setting a reasonable pacing. Tbh I don’t care about any of the characters in the series, they all feel as if they come out of nowhere and are just sort of thrown into the plot without any build up. Plus, Greylock uses too much AI for my liking. People are allowed to have opinions, and criticism does not mean you hate something, you can be critical about stuff you like. (Which everyone should be.) Though I agree I wouldn’t put it into the same tier as The Painter either lol
Petscop is so important to me and I'm glad to see it get the praise it deserves. I've written multiple college papers on it, that's how much it means to me Side note: if you did a part 2 to this, some ones I'd need to recommend are Boisvert and Lacey's Games. Also the work of a channel called "Dr Nowhere", a lot of it is one-off stuff like the Boiled One Phenomenon but it's all done super well
I see Lacey's in a similar vein to Urban Spook. Not meaning that it's bad, but that it has a lot of its horror derived from shock. However, it actually has a purpose, as it is meant to convey how child abuse affects us (and also my or may not have implications of substance abuse? not sure on that one). Personally I place it in A
another recommendation(I saw someone mention it in the chat replay) would be the Mikaeli series(you know, the one where you hit a piece of metal 17 times)
You can't guess how HAPPY i was, that not ONLY is *MONUMENT MYTHOS* included here, but it also got the S-Tier treatment. My god, that's like- my comfort show. If i ever make some sort of analog horror in the future, then you betcha It will feature the same vain of wackiness. That aside, i pretty much agree with most of your rankings. Although, putting _GREYLOCK_ in the C tier is somewhat criminal, all things considered. But i see where you're coming from; The same issues plague the Monument Mythos. So much so, that it's creator, decided to retcon TWO ENTIRE SEASONS. Welp.. At least, by the end of it all, i could see the main themes of the story, that the creator was trying to tell.
I will say that , as a newcomer to analog horror viewer Greylock is great but i have the same issues with focussing on what it is happening. I mean maybe at the end ,everything will have sens, but right now we have: imagination become reality , human mutation, acient civilization, spying project. Ep 12 is amazing but it could better as a spread two videoes. Also to much loud noices and epileptic triggers ( in ep 12 is the worst ).
I'd love to hear your take on White Stag Education. It's not as intense as Analog Horror often tries to be, but there's genuine effort put into it. It's charming.
Incredible video, so nice to see so much effort put into all of these great series and breaking them down. I'd also nearly entirely agree with the list, only thing I'd change is Walten Files in S tier, I've yet to see another analog horror capture as much genuine dread as they did
My primary criticism for your analogue horror is that you should probably focus less on walls of text, and if you do add them in, have a voice over applied to it. Audio is a huge aspect of horror media of any type as long as it's applicable, you already have a great voice you can use for it, and the audio bugging out when shit hits the fan could do you wonders for the spook factor.
A lot of analogue horror authors underestimate just how many vhs informational tapes had some kind of narration over it. Finding decent voice actors can be hard especially for new series so I get it.
@@mercury5003 Reminds me of how my first exposure to Gemini Home Entertainment was Inside A Mind, and how the narration his videos added really sold it for me. To which I was disappointed that they weren't a part of the official series. Still enjoyed it, but that narration just really added something...
So happy to see Angel Hare - this is one of those shows that I have a deeply personal attachment to and you really summed up well exactly why. It's such a special piece of media
Okay damn, if your sample there was the opening to a proper series it'd be killer. Great work, immaculate detective vibes, and not cheap with the scares.
the walten files is easily my favourite analogue horror series, it’s not even close. the main thing i love about it is that it’s such a deeply human story, which isn’t that common in the sub genre, as far as i’m aware at least. it also genuinely scares the shit out of me lmao. and bunnyfarm is one of my favourite episodes in any analogue horror series ever, it’s so creative. top tier for me.
the faces. all of the faces in that series stuck in my mind like grainy photos plastered into my wall so i never forget them. i cannot express how much i love Martin Walls' uncanny way of drawing faces, and his art style in general, it's part of the series that makes things so special
@@AltKaxREAL oh definitely, susan especially in the most recent episode is just. haunting to look at. a lot of analogue horror leans into faces but i think martin walls does it best by a mile.
For me its s teirvabd my fav for both just how fucked the faces abd visuals are, but also just how scary it is with its spinoff episodes. Also the main protagonist is some of the best lgbt representation in any media imo same with banny so we got two woman lovers in the series and you know what we take those w's
I can't even remember the last time a UA-cam video made me laugh that hard, especially with the "that's my plug" remark right before and the fact that I agree with his point completely, shit hit like a truck
Sat down at 1am and binged this thriller of a video, and then got hit with your own personal series was incredible. Honestly, im hooked on the story you've planned out so far, and the reveal at the end was... genuinley shocking. I stood up inches from my tv just to try and spot the odd frame out in the pictures cause i was that invested in what could possibly be happening. Genuinley stoked to see where you take the story and for the first time finding your channel, Im glad i did. I wanna stay in this loop and i am genuinley excited to see where you take your own series!!
@@CalvinNoireat this point found footage and analog horror have kinda molded together, mostly because just having analog elements and just having found footage elements is boring, you either just have text on the screen or an extremely shaky camera running away from something, so they combine both of them to make better content, whether it's analog horror or found footage just depends on what the creator wants to focus on.
i loveee the tier list actually being a real , tangible thing. actually makes things feel more authentic and personal. is that insane to say? i just adore it. feels much more engaging than it being on some website or edited in.
i disagree with the petscop censorings comparions to scp redactions for one simple reason. with scp reactions it was pretty muvh always clear that the author of the document had no clue what was behind that black bar while writing, while in petscop i am 100% confident the creator of petscop DOES know whats behind each censoring. you said it yourself that they deliberately removed information to give a sense of a mystery that doesnt need to be solved, and to me those black boxes are another aspect of that.
@@hhavi0 you do realize this is an subjective comment right? "i actually think that part you didnt like was pretty cool since it was still effective to me but for a different reason than as a scare" "nope youre wrong actually it isnt effective as a scare to me"
Genuinely surprised to not see Kane Pixel's Backrooms here, or even mentioned considering it is THE Analog Horror currently. Hell, even The Longest View, though I suppose that's not Analog, is it? The Bit you made at the end was really good since I didn't see the monster until the Pool picture, and KNEW I had to go back as it'd have to have been shown before.
I was wishing that this video included "the children under the house" by vintage 8. It honestly has a really unique and creative way of story telling. Unlike the oracle project/the tangi virus, I don't remember it suffering from things that distract you from the main story. I highly recommend it and if this video gets a part 2, I'd love to see you talking about it.
I'm sad you couldn't enjoy Greylock more. Genuinely one of the most engaging analog horrors I've seen but personally speaking I wish you'd have put the Painter in D tier cus it just makes me even sadder seeing Greylock on the same tier.
@@TheTlay101 it’s bad. No matter how much potential a series has, at some point, with enough bad additions, it no longer has potential. It’s just a bad series.
Angel Hare really stands out for me. It's an excellent premise and story to begin with, but it just has such a unique quality to it. Most if not all of the other entries here have a similar aesthetic and feel, but AH takes an extra step in terms of presentation and creativity. Plus, the voice acting is absolutely top notch. So many of these series stumble when it comes to that area. @SpacemanScott I don't know if Kraina Gryzbow is considered a "proper" analog horror, but it stayed with me moreso than any of these. Phew.
Indistinct Chatter 1's sequence to introduce the Grandpa (around 12:45 in that video) is probably the most terrified I have ever been watching any online horror.
@@br3dcrumbs Thanks, hadn't seen that one yet. It'll revisit me around 1am I'm sure. There's nothing that can be described as "scary" about any of the videos; when you talk about them, it sounds ridiculous that you'd be scared of anything in them, but to experience the images and sound is totally unnerving. They are masters of the genre for sure.
i kinda like how confusing Petscop’s narrative is. it really highlights how confusing experiencing trauma as a child is. youre not supposed to know whats going on because Care/Paul didn’t either.
regarding the matters of touchy subjects in horror, there's also a veneer of respect and tact that's got to be present. with fnaf it works because it can be accepted in no uncertain terms that the children's souls are not in the wrong, that what happened to them is a tragedy and the person who did that is treated as a monster that deserves all that's coming for them. there's no joke anywhere when treating this subject. for all his issues as a storyteller scott handled the matter in the best way he could.
Hi! I really liked your analog horror work at the end, but I thought I would include some criticism of your autopsy report as someone who has experience in the field. I’m sorry if this comes off as overly critical, I’ve not seen a lot of other analog horror series, but I thought this might be useful advice if you decide to continue. 1. Autopsy reposts aren’t overly concerned with eye and hair color. It’s case number, name (if known), race, sex, height, weight, presence of drugs and potentially BMI. After that it’s if organ are present and weights if solid. 2. For the drawing of injuries, length and width of wounds needs to be accounted for, along with discoloration and for ribs, which ones have been broken. All autopsies are hyper specific. Also if the decapitated head was present with the body or not. 3. Cause of death would never be ruled asphyxiation in this case. Asphyxiation describes passive airway obstruction. In a case where a head is ripped off, the cause of death would be strangulation, which describes the manual (hand or otherwise) compression of the trachea and jugular arteries and veins, which would kill before the head was ripped off. The cervical vertebrae would be damaged in this affair but that would most likely be subsequent to the strangulation and not be ruled the cause of death. 4. The most important part of a forensic autopsy is cause of death - ie. what was the final cause of death - and manner of death - was this death natural, an accident, suicide, homocide or unknown. Deaths can be ruled unknown for a bunch of inconclusive results or political reasons, but it would be near the top of the report as it’s the most important finding of a forensic autopsy such as this, as this autopsy will inform all following legal action on the states or family’s. Again thank you for making this tier list. I really enjoyed it! Ignore my criticism if it’s outside the realm of or conflicts with the medium of analog horror. I’m only really familiar with found footage.
I cannot describe how happy it makes me to see angel hare in s tier. That series means the whole world to me and has comforted me beyond belief, i only found it back in november but ive watched it so many times whenever i start to feel bad. Gabby is such a warm hug of a character. I cant put into words how that series feels to me. It has healed a lot of deep set religious and childhood truama and ill never stop thanking the east patch for the series.
I loved your own video at the end! I think its a wonderful job for a first attempt. It sounds like you know what makes the genre so special and I can't wait for the messages and story you tell in your own analog videos!
Unknowingly the creator of The Man In The Suit has been working with a team for a while now, and the newest video is what came of it, "The Ghidorah Suit Incident"
YES! THANK YOU! Someone else with a hearing impairment who understands the issue with Greylock!!! I love Greylock- I think it’s amazing! But it’s so inaccessible to me personally. This is an issue with a lot of “spooky” media for me. And having it in caption form doesn’t make it any less scary- look at some examples like Battington’s FNAF Halloween Haunt for a lot of cool ways to use captions to enhance the horror as well! I just think analog horror needs to be more accessible: which really sucks for me. I want to support these series! But I can’t fully, and am stuck watching big creators cover them
This also sadly happened with the most recent Local 58 episode (its available in a playlist on the channel). Its this really cool video of people landing on a meteor that looked like a skull. And unlike other Local 58 videos its almost 30 minutes long, its this big build up to a cool conclusion. I WOULD have loved it, except there is purposefully muffed dialogue beneath the whole thing. I could only make out a word or two, and then I went into the comments and there was people pointing out dialogue I didn't even hear because I would've had to strained the whole 30 minutes to pick it up. Even then some of the comments have the dialogue wrong, or at least I cant hear it even when pointed out. And that's coming from someone WITHOUT a hearing impairment! I think a lot of analog horror creators think that adding captions is spelling it out for people, or ruining the tension, but I would've have much preferred being able to skim after the fact and actually see what they were saying
@@cez_is_typing I had that issue with the same Local 58 episode as well! I was there for the premiere and it was a nightmare for audio at all, but also for ADHD with 30 minutes of well- not much happening. If I wasn’t in the premier chat it would have been impossible for me
@@TheTidalBreeze Subtitles and closed captions are a very basic form of accessibility. Even people without hearing impairments benefit from them. This isn’t “tailoring a video to someone”, it’s making something accessible for a wide population.
Gemini is the type of horror that I think about all the time. It kinda haunts your mind, and makes you wonder what dangers lie hidden in the depths of space.
1:02:48 As someone with chronic tinnitus, I find it really difficult to understand a lot of things like that to do with auditory story telling. I find it really helpful when things (especially purposeful muffled things) have captions if it’s one thing in silence, without anything behind it (ie music)
Honestly, I was really engaged by your analog horror video. I thought you did a great job at writing a intriguing and creepy premise. I'd love to see it continued.
Alright, here's my review of your crack at analog horror: I like the visuals. In particular, I like how the photos were minimally edited, and how the supernatural elements look almost like old double exposure "ghost photographs" or superimposed CCTV footage. I also appreciate how understated and seamless the background visuals were, in comparison to some other series that feel very flashy and overdone. All in all, I think the atmosphere does a great job of staying true to the VHS aesthetic. On the flip side, my biggest concern would be the dialogue. I think there's a lot of editorializing that could have been cut in favor of, say, having more information about the crime or the victims. I also think your manner of speaking bleeds into the character you're trying to write a bit too much. I think I can see where you're trying to take the character, and I like it, I just think it could benefit from some trimming down and revising with thought to what kind of person you're trying to write dialogue for. Also, this is just a nitpick, but I think it would be a lot more compelling if the photos were introduced more organically. Simply saying a phrase like "here is the photo" works perfectly fine, but some variety in presentation and introduction could help give the photos more weight. Overall, I think this was a really good first attempt, and I'd like to see more if that's something you're interested in doing.
@@scaleonkhan183 Actually weirdly enough that's what makes them scary to me. The idea that I might be missing danger that is immediately in front of me gives me chills since it's fairly obvious with some of them but not others.
Yeah the “Here is the photo” thing felt a bit reminiscent of UrbanSpook’s “This is the painting” and stuff adjacent to that. I think this attempt was much more interesting and better executed-after all, there’s much more of a story here-but if there were one criticism I’d make, it’s that the text just needs to find a little bit more of its own voice, because yes, it does sound just a little bit too much like him lol
@@scaleonkhan183 Oh I actually loved it! The one in the background of the lake photo was probably my favorite because it’s something you really could miss weirdly easily in real life but the moment you see it, something heavy and unnerving just pangs in your stomach when you realize it was there. And from what we see from all the pictures together, I like how whatever this thing is has some vague essence of humanity, but from the window and closeup photo, you can see it’s just not fully there. Something’s wrong about it. I love that.
Okay, I admit that sometimes they are a bit silly... (loved the final preview of your series. BTW: the creation of a real physical tier list is genius level)
@@DitzyBear Let's say it's partially unintentional. The Awake acronym thing was intentional, as was the little pause after President Reagan talks about "offering blood" in episode 6. I found out someone finds it hilarious

I hope you continue and I am sure that you’ll do great. Also, using a regular TTS rather than ai works great IMO if you ever struggle with voice over. Have a good one!
your analog horror short at the end genuinely freaked me out i was jumping a little at noises in the hall of was really interesting and definitely built up tension in a really subtle and well done way
this was genuinely good. i was invested in your analog horror so much i forgot i was watching a different video. i liked that you could see the figure very early on and getting closer. would love to see it be a full thing genuinely. the use of old photos slightly modifed was very well done. and the crime scene drawing and photo ad me feel chills. as well as the pure horror in j walker that could be seen and heard and felt iver his text.
Heyyy, that short at the end was genuinely extremely good! I saw someone complaining about the “walls of text” but I really think they weren’t very egregious and the lack of voice acting worked really well, it left me alone with my thoughts in a super effective way.
HOW DID NOT KNOW HE WROTE CANDLE COVE IM GONNA FREAK THATS SO COOL

He absolutely loved Angel Hare, you can see in the stream he wholeheartedly enjoyed it and even the topics of the series hit him pretty hard, I don't think you can say in many more ways how much you love a series than he did on that stream
Now the theories about Gabby herself not being all that good, those are planted there by the series itself and hinted at a lot, moreso than any religious connotation or christian ideas of angels, his brand is to come up with crazy hare brained theories about every thing, he's called a lot of analog horror twists like that
It feels like the first comment was made by someone who didn't watch Wendigoon praising Angel Hare for 2 hours, and I also don't think it has that much to do with a specific religious viewpoint, it's just what the series presents just thinly veiled

When the guy in the closet in greylock dies, and then the thing that killed him saying in a child’s voice
“it’s a monster!”
Is probably my favorite death in any analog horror, ever.
Just because of the implications alone.
Yeah, it was really good.
Yeah it’s stupidly well done.
In my head, the thing that killed the guy is basically mocking him for dying to it.
Maybe I’m a bad person but I thought it was kinda funny.
Like the guys dead, it’s purely doing it for its own satisfaction of being a dick
It reminded me of when a villain starts singing “b b b b bad to the bone” in a movie

@@Th30nly0n SCP articles be like: I [Redacted] a tasty burger then went [Redacted] mode all over the [Redacted]

(not obscuring any of the audio transcriptions, though, obviously. don't do that, it's not cute and kinda ruins the whole point of having the CC lol)
anyway thank you again, and to anyone who read this ramble, thank you too. it's been bugging me for a long time so it's nice to hear someone talk abt it and to also be able to get it off my chest a bit.
That’s actually a great idea lmao
I had an idea for one that's basically "why is the moon fucked up" but the moon isnt fucked and the guy saying it is is just going crazy or something

(Which everyone should be.)

I'm genuinely interested in how Lacey's would rank
I see Lacey's in a similar vein to Urban Spook. Not meaning that it's bad, but that it has a lot of its horror derived from shock. However, it actually has a purpose, as it is meant to convey how child abuse affects us (and also my or may not have implications of substance abuse? not sure on that one). Personally I place it in A
@littykitty040 I would put it in the A teir as well. The series at least executed these topics well, unlike urbanspooks.

@@CalvinNoireat this point found footage and analog horror have kinda molded together, mostly because just having analog elements and just having found footage elements is boring, you either just have text on the screen or an extremely shaky camera running away from something, so they combine both of them to make better content, whether it's analog horror or found footage just depends on what the creator wants to focus on.

regarding the matters of touchy subjects in horror, there's also a veneer of respect and tact that's got to be present. with fnaf it works because it can be accepted in no uncertain terms that the children's souls are not in the wrong, that what happened to them is a tragedy and the person who did that is treated as a monster that deserves all that's coming for them. there's no joke anywhere when treating this subject.
for all his issues as a storyteller scott handled the matter in the best way he could.
I loved your own analog horror clip at the end. At first I was like: "Huh, what's wrong with the pictures?" And then I saw the face in the window.

Episodes 6 and 12 of Greylock are some of the finest bits of analogue horror out there

YES!
I think in that you have to accept you're in the minority. That the video can't be specifically tailored to you and that's okay.

Alright, here's my review of your crack at analog horror:
I like the visuals.
I straight up didn’t notice where the monsters were in the photos until the mirror one so I wish they were honed in on more
@@scaleonkhan183 Actually weirdly enough that's what makes them scary to me. The idea that I might be missing danger that is immediately in front of me gives me chills since it's fairly obvious with some of them but not others.
@@parkerpayne6382 Yeah that’s understandable. I’m watching on mobile so I have a smaller screen and couldn’t see the details/differences that well
Yeah the “Here is the photo” thing felt a bit reminiscent of UrbanSpook’s “This is the painting” and stuff adjacent to that.
Ok so how does this man not have a million subs????
Okay, I admit that sometimes they are a bit silly...
(loved the final preview of your series. BTW: the creation of a real physical tier list is genius level)
The humor in your videos is so funny that even if it’s unintentional it should be a mainstay. I love it and imo it enhances the horror
@@DitzyBear Let's say it's partially unintentional. The Awake acronym thing was intentional, as was the little pause after President Reagan talks about "offering blood" in episode 6. I found out someone finds it hilarious
But they’re great! Just checked your channel out before he started talking about the series (since it was the only new one I hadn’t seen) and I agree with Scott. I hope you continue and I am sure that you’ll do great. Also, using a regular TTS rather than ai works great IMO if you ever struggle with voice over. Have a good one!
I would like to politely request more of your analog horror at the end ASAP. That pulled me in so quick. Thanks so much
your analog horror short at the end genuinely freaked me out i was jumping a little at noises in the hall of was really interesting and definitely built up tension in a really subtle and well done way
this was genuinely good. i was invested in your analog horror so much i forgot i was watching a different video. i liked that you could see the figure very early on and getting closer. would love to see it be a full thing genuinely. the use of old photos slightly modifed was very well done. and the crime scene drawing and photo ad me feel chills. as well as the pure horror in j walker that could be seen and heard and felt iver his text.
Heyyy, that short at the end was genuinely extremely good! I saw someone complaining about the “walls of text” but I really think they weren’t very egregious and the lack of voice acting worked really well, it left me alone with my thoughts in a super effective way. Really good job! I’m excited to see what else you do
