Dr. Harris at California Hernia Specialists discusses some of the challenges and possible complications when doing surgery on patients with large, complicated hernias.
Hellow i would like to ask. I have left inguinal hernia repaire with mesh. 1 month and 1 week after my operation. I'd like to ask why until now i felt painful my wound. It is normal?
Had my laproscopic billateral mesh hernia repair on wednesday ,my right side feels ok but my left feels quite sore still like sharp pain mainly when I have been up on my feet for a while ,the Dr said it was a bit more trickier on the left side ,I am hoping I have no damage to nerves etc
Aussieguy R, Nerve damage after a hernia repair and in particular laparoscopic repair is very uncommon. Having sharp pains and a lot of swelling days after your surgery is expected so I wouldn't worry that you have any long term complications. Best, CAHS
Hi Doctor, I had my Inguinal hernia repair through open incision surgery 2 months back. I have developed infection in the incision area (E Coli), I am changing dressing every day and the pus is reducing. However my surgeon is suggesting a revision surgery to remove mesh as the wound is taking longer than expected time to heal. Please suggest if I should go for removal surgery or not
Prakash, Infection complications after hernia surgery are rare but can obviously happen. We would have to defer to your surgeon who can examine you and knows more details. We hope that at this point that you're doing much better. Good luck, CAHS
when you have complications say in your left side could it be from the mesh and how can I detect if it is another issue or complications from the hernia..surgergy was 3 years ago
cheryl billett, With the limited information that you have, the best step would probably to be seen by a physician or a surgeon who can discuss your symptoms and decide what the next steps should be. Good luck, CAHS
Hi doctor.iwas operated inguinal hernia thrice due to successive surgery failures.third time iwas operated by using laparoscopic mesh repair.after six years there's swelling on operated part and iam started feeling pain'.wat does it indicate.
Chinna, It would be difficult for us to comment on what might be causing your symptoms without a full examination. However, there are times when scar tissue from prior surgeries creates some fullness in the area of surgery. Best, CAHS
Karlo, questions about hernia mesh are very common. Fortunately we have put together several videos and a specific web page to help answer those questions. I hope that this page californiaherniaspecialists.com/about-hernia-mesh/ helps you. Best, CAHS
Am Emmanuel from Ghana. Please Dr. I did inguinal hernia surgery and after one year I felt like the hernia is coming back again at same place. Please how possible could this be ??
Emmanuel, Recurrent hernias occur about 1-2% of the time after an initial repair. We would recommend seeing your surgeon to establish if the hernia has returned or not. Best, CAHS
Sir I am 22 years old and I have hernia from last 2 years but I didn't knew about it .. recently I visited doctor he told me that I am having a groin hernia .. I am having my surgery next month . I am able to completely push my intestine back in the abdominal . I want to know whether my case is of complicated hernia ?

And a little bit pain in my upper portion of thighs near groin Few hours after surgery I didn't feel anything like this but after 2 days I am having this symptom.. sir Is it normal or is it a symptom of varcocele ? Or anything else ..
@@hassanalisyed9522 I am totally fine now.. My surgery was performed very well.. I don't have any Complications now.. Even I have started doing weight lifting in gym.. But I always take care that excess pressure or force doesn't act on my groin area.. I just feel little bit numbness on my groin area which is improving with time..
I’m 16 and I’m getting laparoscopic inguinal surgery in 9 days, I’ve been a nervous reck thinking about the mesh that’s gonna be in me for the rest of my life. What if it’s not the best type of mesh? Or what if it causes problems? Help
Ryan Wolffy, Any surgery can be scary. Having an implant placed during surgery is extremely common and is performed in ACL repairs, hip and knee replacements, spine surgery as well as hundreds of other types of procedures. Fortunately hernia mesh is used literally 10,000 times a day in patients across the country with outstanding results. We're sure that you'll do great and go on to live a completely normal life. All the best, CAHS
Waseem, in this video we are discussing more complicated hernia repairs to I assume that you are inquiring about these types of surgeries. For these surgeries, the time can take anywhere from 2 hours, up to 4-5 hours depending on the work required.
The doctor didn't used the mesh during the repair ... And after one year , I started feeling sharp pain in my testes ... What could be the problem Dr. ??
Emmanuel, It would be too difficult to comment on what would be causing your pain a year after surgery. We would recommend seeing your surgeon to determine what the cause might be. Best, CAHS
