Why can a hernia NOT heal with proper care? It seems ALL muscles have the capacity to heal if given proper care (like a sprained wrist, for instance).
I know abdominal hernias are in a very sensitive and constantly moving part of the body but can they heal with supports, like the sprained wrist in a brace?

UnknownIdaho, Unfortunately since muscles are designed to contract, once there is a tear, the muscles usually continue to contract AWAY from each other and a hole persists. Muscles do not grow back together without being sewn back together. Ligaments, tendons, muscle strains and pulls can all heal without surgery because they are either not muscles (ligaments and tendons) or because they are not completely torn (strains and pulls). That being said, some patients don't need surgery and can manage their symptoms with a hernia truss or belt to minimize their discomfort. Best, CAHS

Sajjad, Deciding on having hernia surgery is something that is usually best discussed with a surgeon in person so that he/she can examine you and decide if/when surgery is necessary. Fortunately, most hernias are not emergencies and can often be watched for some time before surgery is needed, CAHS

I am 18 years old and have discovered a very soft lump on left side of abdomen. I had taken light Dinner before I discovered this at night. Woke up at midnight and drank a glass of milk and it disappeared or suppressed. Now what to do next? I am terrified.
It has no symptoms but I have bloat and some sort of chest burn.

Farhan, It would be too difficult to diagnose anything based on your description. We would recommend seeing a doctor in your area to discuss and which would allow them to examine you. Good luck, CAHS

Hi Todd, I had my umbilical Hernia surgery day before yesterday, and I got info from my doctor that he has used covidien parietex mesh. I would like to know is this mesh is good quality, as I have seen lawsuit on this covidien brand in Google, I'm so confused , could you please clarify my doubt as you mentioned in one of your video that generally mesh of good quality and thin mesh won't create any trouble after the surgery..so kindly clarify my doubt regarding this particular mesh.

Swapna, We aren't familiar with the parietex mesh so we can't comment on it's use. Umbilical hernia meshes have always been safe so it's unlikely to be an issue. Best, CAHS

I DISAGREE WITH THE USE OF A MESH, TO ME ITS UNATURAL TO HAVE FOREIGN OBJECTS IN MY BODY.

This doctor is dead set on the MESH, a mesh is not a right solution!!
