"Express" was probably one of the most brilliant yet under-appreciated and under-listened to albums of the 1980s. Talk to any serious music critic, DJ, or music lover and Bauhaus, Love and Rockets shows up in the conversation somewhere.

I used to rock myself to sleep with the "slow" version of this song back in the 80's. I prefer the slow version much better, but it's L&R! So brilliant!

I've been loving this since it's release.
This album, band, had a huge part in my life. Game changer. I've been listening to this song again, a lot, since summer.

great Love and Rockets song. I saw them live back in 88 and they were awesome. They had their alter egos The Bubblemen open for them.
this song reminds me of my two week stay in a hospital in '88. a couple friends made me a mix tape and this one was on it; helped me get through that tough period of time.

I love how all of their music videos are cheaply made. But they always pull it off. They use cool black & white backrounds and film fx.

They were basically the band for Peter Murphy. Love & Rockets made great pop music.

I had the same experience on the first wave. I forgot how much I loved this album. Listen to this album with some great headphones and it is way up there. It really is one of the best albums of all time and I really mean it. WALL, MOBY, AND Love and Rockets.. 70s 80s and 90s .

I have fond memories of playing this classic in the acoustic band "The Altar Boys" back in the early 90's. Philly area of course!
I hear this song for the first time yesterday on XM Radio, the New Wave channel.
This definitely takes me back to my teens when music was smokin' hot. Nowadays you hear either rap (is that music??), or remakes of the best new wave songs. I guess musicians these days are running out of ideas, OR they just don't have much talent.

true the bubblemen were the bandmembers, except on the tour they were the roadies. It was great to see them show up on the stage at the end of the show. though I saw Elements of the bubblemen on the lyrics sleeve for the Burning from the inside album.

was that in london mzval ? i was there too. first time with green lasers... i missed bauhaus and was banned from seeing tones on tail by my mum for being 16 - anyway. caught LAR in 88 with the bubblemen. Kind of loved the bubblemen for being on the cover of MASK. revisiting, bauhaus are just devastating. utterly amazing. LAR, TOT, Peter Murphy, cant touch them. That was Alchemy

I think both Haskins are very talented, to say that Daniel is all the talent is just coming from someone who doesn't know these guys history not just with this band but with Bauhaus as well. I guess to being a HUGE David J fan I take offense.

@throwntomato - I completely agree with you on that. Even the newer hip bands out on the L.A. scene today don't seem to grab me the way the older bands did. Songwriting is at an all time low......

I do love the sound from this album,..........but these videos are hard to watch, its like bad stuff from the 80's concentrate, the big hair, splatter paint, femme clothing for dudes.
bauhaus were the ones. those first 4 first albums are immortal. this is average 80s music
Not average in the least. The Sky's Gone Out and Mask were top notch albums, and various songs off In The Flat Field and others.... but Tones on Tail's EPs / Album Pop and the first 2 1/2 Love and Rockets (half the tracks on ESM) were awesome as well. They lost the plot between ESM and the eponymous L&R 89 album.
Although I really liked Bound for Hell, Rock n' Roll Babylon and The Purest Blue from that otherwise rough album.
Right; yet the new guitar sound that Danny was doing on their self-titled lp, was very crunchy and Cramps-esque.
Great band, but their videos kinda sucked.
