I may be dating myself here, but I once requested this song on Muchmusic and they played it! Spoke on the air with Steve Anthony too!! I remember he asked me if I was going to dance around my living room or something! I said "no man, I want to see the video!" He laughed...
this is by far one of their most impressive songs to see live. i saw them do this in the late 90's and it was soooo incredible. and half way through the song, Daniel's mic started slipping, but he just went with it. he slid down singing in time as the mic slid down. it was cute and funny. the auidence got a kick out of it. and by the way - "alcohol is your yoga baby" - i love that line!
I saw them in 1999 too and I thought they were amazing! It was one of the best shows I ever saw in my life. Maybe they had an off or bad night when you saw them? I remember they played this song live in 99 and it sounded so good and considering how long the normal version is of this song is, which was the version they played, (not this video version) it was really impressive. Love that line "alcohol is your yoga baby".
I envy so much the ones who had the huge enormous luck to see this band on stage!..i still remember 18 years old watching on video the show at the london marquee...feelling my mind actually blowing!..Why Argentina were so fucking far away from this MONSTERS!!
@ThunderHeadThor I saw that tour in FL in '89 too! Then I met them in 95. Daniel Ash was the coolest of the 3. David J and Kevin Haskins just said "hi" and bounced. Ash came out, took pix with us, and we talked for about 10 min (we hid out behind the club till the bouncer told him we were out there waiting. He just came out and introduced himself) Coolest guy ever...
well, we appreciate them, right?...i appreciate them from the bottom of my heart. i think the world's greatest art doesn't get the biggest mainstream success. not enough words to say how great this band is
I saw Love and Rockets back in 1995 in a crappy little town with terrible acoustics. But they were amazing. And when they played this song, half way through they seamlessly transitioned into the first part of "Bela Lugosi's Dead"...and then dreamily went back to the Flowerpot Man. It was chilling... They were incredible.
I always wanted a white acoustic since seeing this video.Been workin on strumming that fast. I love 2:28 to 3:16,Had a mushroom trip just like that when i was young in the 80's. Why is there such a shortage of great bands like these guys.Still blows me after all these years.
God I LOVE this song - so gald to rediscover it - yes, I agree with a person below it's one of the best songs written ... so uplifting and ecstatic... one cannot be sad during or after listening to this... it makes me grin and dance!! :-D
@Gedemondas O.K. so Kevin Haskins is the Flowerpot Man. Which one is Yin? And which one is Yang? Great song! Heard it a few times back in the 80's. Didn't know the name of the song or the grossly under-rated group that did the song. Found it thanks to a search on Daytripper-Daniel Ash 1991, that I did a couple of months ago. All of the sudden I found many of the Love and Rockets hidden treasures, as well as the outstanding short-lived Tones On Tail collection.
I just watched it now, and I have to admit, I kind of nervously laughed throughout the whole thing. It was hilarious, but at the same time utterly terrifying for me. Lol. I believe the Bubblemen will soon be making a guest appearance in my nightmares.
@jotacalvo That's wicked. Imagine a rock star being humble enough to go out back of a gig and talk to fans in the alley. Not only is Ash one of my favorite guitar players. He is also one of the most underrated ever. He was one of the first minimalist players who understood that the guitar could be used to convey atmosphere rather than just being used as a self serving wanking tool. Double Dare, Bela Lugosi, MASK, Daniel could do more to disturb you with a few notes than any other player.
pardon me while i get on my soapbox: WHY DID'NT THIS BAND GET HUGE? THEY HAVE MORE MUSICAL ABILITY IN THEIR TOE NAIL CLIPPINGS THAN ANY 10 BANDS YOU WANT TO NAME! AAAAAARGH! thank you i needed to get that off my chest.
You're welcome kymm00. After posting about "The bubblemen are coming" video, I had to go watch it again for myself. It makes me laugh everytime, it's so cute and very funny!
i like the music that i like...and i like people who like the same music....and if someone doesn't like my music........then i get all hot and sweaty and bothered.....i want to scream: 'stop it! stop...not...liking the things i like!'. then i spin in circles round and round on my front lawn. solves everything.
Yes indeed! And whether yo were grinding teeth on blow or doses is entirely irrelevant... Love and Rockets were the soundtrack to testing the boundaries of the infinite... I still see sacred fractal geometry behind my eyelids decades after the fact.... All aboard the Express Kundalini......
@elilichtenberg I so agree, the music is amazing! But today we have to endure seeing the top 40 artists sell millions when they should be slapped and told that they are a lie
Lol. I love the end part as well. It was mostly the dances which were scary, because I couldn't imagine Dan, Kev and David actually doing those moves. :P and you're absolutely right, of course. I'd much rather watch the actual members. I find Kevin to be adorable :]
CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT!
one of the 25 best songs ever written.
I miss these days of good music and creativity.
love love love this song..love drivin on the freeway to it....i saw them in the late 80's in oakland...i will never forget it!!...love them.
I met Kevin Haskins back in 1989 and no joke, he's the nicest, sweetest guy imaginable and 100 times cuter in real life than in any video.
I may be dating myself here, but I once requested this song on Muchmusic and they played it! Spoke on the air with Steve Anthony too!! I remember he asked me if I was going to dance around my living room or something! I said "no man, I want to see the video!" He laughed...

Man these guys are the stuff that make awsome music...bring back memeories of the annex and Central Tech
It's so cool how Ash is a "lead guitarist" yet I never heard him play a single solo with scales. What a great band.
Just love the bass in this song!
I envy so much the ones who had the huge enormous luck to see this band on stage!..i still remember 18 years old watching on video the show at the london marquee...feelling my mind actually blowing!..Why Argentina were so fucking far away from this MONSTERS!!

I bought "Express" in 1986 on cassette and wore it out. One of my favorite albums of all time.

well, we appreciate them, right?...i appreciate them from the bottom of my heart. i think the world's greatest art doesn't get the biggest mainstream success. not enough words to say how great this band is
ALL of the 'Love and Rockets' fans around the world appreciate your comment, superstarpally. It is spot-on!
This song is the best for driving E -W across highway 401 in Tdot. I usually look down and find the speedometer sitting at 160 kph! Classic!!
I saw them at Red Rocks with The Godfathers. Awesome song!
Top Ten under-rated bands- this would be one of them.
I feel the "Chameleons" are number 1 under-rated and then perhaps these guys
i like this video and song very much
The drummer's super cute and that's all that matters.
And it's a good song
I saw them open for Jane's Addiciton...most of the audience seemed more interested in them than the headliner.
alcohol's your yooooooga baaaaaabyeeeeeeeeeeeeeh... this band is too good for words!!!
one of the songs I play when I pick up and acoustic.
