Listened to this album straight through while driving a couple of weeks ago. It is a masterpiece, which I have known for 30 years, but it was nice to be reminded. Did not even think of skipping a song. L & R = most underrated band of all time.
You won't be disappointed by Daniel and Kevin's side project while they were with Bauhaus either. Sadly Tones on Tail only had 1 album called 'Pop' but check out their double album called 'Everything' which includes their singles. Bauhaus is my favourite, but they are more of an acquired taste. Daniel Ash has to be the most underrated guitarist ever.
Gosh, I remember watching this video at 16 and being so, so sad because they were playing in New Orleans at Tipitina's and my dad wouldn't let me go see them (I grew up in Baton Rouge). They were my absolute, total fave band at the time and I loved Daniel to death - humongous crush. But in 2001 I was living in N.O. and got to see a solo Daniel show so that kinda makes up for it. I can still remember the longing though.
I was there at Tipitina's the very beautiful venue in New Orleans for the Love and Rockets performance and will never forget it. Even the BubbleMen made an appearance. This song is my favorite of all.
I love them both , but i have to say XTC are one of the best bands, both Lyrically and musicly along with Japan ive come across ! Andy Partridge & Colin Moulding are songwriting geniuses and XTC were so musically diverse in a brilliant way.
💫Some friends of mine said they hung out with Daniel A. in New Orleans in the '80's, in a small bar; cool hangout place. And Daniel A. paid for everyone's drink in the place, they said.💫Nice guy.💫
Saw them in Boston Apr 16, 1988 - Orpheum Theatre. They came out dressed as The Bubblemen - I had that 12 inch in single as well as the Express and the Tones on Tail records. Excellent concert!
Walk around so cold So cold and lonely Or lay in bed wondering what To do with time You've got no sense of fun Until you know you've won again And yet you feel so much You feel so much inside You want to rip all the Jewels off all the idiots' backs so badly You scream give me what I've always Missed, give me a good time But if you look into your mirror You'll see that nobody has ever ripped you off It's all in your mind Her beauty can only ever be skin deep But if I'm honest that's all I ever Really need So throw us some flowers and we'll Give you some songs and sunshine And if you give me an hour I'll show you how you feel Ohhh baby, ohhh I'm much too lazy Ohhh it's all in my mind So don't be unkind It's all in my mind It's all in my mind Sometimes you really don't Really don't really don't know What I mean Sometimes you really don't Really don't really don't Know what I need I say I've got no sense of Fun until I know I've won again And how do you think yes how Do you think that feels So, just give me an hour I'll show you how you feel Ohhh baby Ohhh I'm much too lazy Ohhh baby Ohhh it's all in my mind So don't be unkind It's all in my mind
I don't care what anyone says, Daniel Ash had the best hair in all of the entire alternative music scene universe in the 80s. Better than Robert Smith or Siouxsie Sioux and he was just too beautiful for words back then.
I don't know what happened to my comment. Although I love Robert Smith I would not attribute one of his better attributes to great hair. I would have to give that to Mike Score when he had some.
I have to modify my reply to include an early phase of PIL when John Lydon had great hair. In concert in NO, I know he had some sort of extensions. It seems like they were cotton or other and as crazy as it sounds I remember them as almost like pastels such as pink and blue. But, maybe, that is just how I remember them or my impression.
Such an underrated song...It blows your mind at 3:40 and on...This very song deserves a couple million views at least. I guess our generation didn’t care much about recognition... These guys have influenced tons of bands and musicians. Love and Rockets were more into performing their art-music than anything else.
went to san francisco yesterday, walked into a thrift store and picked up the first record i could, found out who they were. Didn't have much time to look around. The best purchase i've ever made.
In the fall of 1998, Kevin began composing scores for video games, film, and television, under the name Messy, with partner Doug DeAngelis. The duo met as producer and artist during the making of the critically acclaimed Love and Rockets album Lift. Doug and Kevin describe Messy as Electronic Alternative music, featuring guests like Michael Balzary from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jessicka from Scarling., along with many other interesting individuals. Messy's recent credits include music in
This video is awesome! I always loved this song, but seeing the strobing effects towards the end is Wow. Daniel Ash definitely had a vision for this and it was made whole. Thank you Daniel Ash and to the other guys, I'm sorry I don't know your names. Be well. :)
Correction: '89. '87 was Echo and the Bunnymen, PIL and INXS, the Cure, the Church, Gene loves Jezebel followed by Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers in New Orleans. I think it was '82, I got to see Loverboy open for A Flock of Seagulls, which was "one big ball of confusion". I'd like to forget the security at the first concert I attended that year in another town.
"But if you look into your mirror, you'll see that nobody... has ever ripped you off... it's all in your mind" Find me a lyric better than that!!! Then, "Beauty can only ever be skin deep, but if I'm honest, that's all I ever really need. " F'n MASTERPIECE!
A staple on the pop format known as the Rock of the '80s. i was a dj and loved experimenting with the tunes not on the 'heavy rotation' playlists from quality artists - these guys had some real rockers too
i was and have always been influenced by daniel in all that i do from the plays i direct to the music i listen to when im drunk. thanks, bauhaus, Sinister ducks, dali's car, tones on tale, love and rockets, peter murphy, daniel ash, david J (solo) and of course kevin:) oohh bubble men...
I hear you dude. I graduated in 87 but I know exactly what you mean when you say is there kegger tonight. That was the 80s as a teen. Kids today missed out..
at the time of the attacks from them to Peter Murphy and sarcasticam also responded to them, being at the end daniel ash always been in love with Peter Murphy, who does not lol
I saw L&R in 1990 at ISU in Normal, IL doing their self-titled LP tour on a distraction gig from touring with The Cure. At one point the microphone got knocked over during Yin Yang -- as pissed as he was, Daniel got on his back, on the floor, sang in the mic and played his guitar without fail. Epic!
Listened to this album straight through while driving a couple of weeks ago. It is a masterpiece, which I have known for 30 years, but it was nice to be reminded. Did not even think of skipping a song. L & R = most underrated band of all time.
don't it make you sad? Bitter sweet. Much adoration from their fans...thats all they ever really need.
Robert S nope. Tones on Tail is. 🙂
My favorite band of all time and yes the album is a masterpiece....agreed!
Cool
sounds fun!
I'm a 70s child and have only just discovered Love & Rockets. Oh what have I missed all these years.
Better late than never, they are awesome 😎

Finally discovering how good this band really was in 2021. Better late than never, right?
I saw them live several times in the mid-late 80's
Welcome to the club, better late than never
Welcome to the party. Grab a beer. Play loud! Peace.

Song should have been massive. America slept on this. The entire album was and is a masterpiece.

Bauhaus and Love and Rockets are the most musical and lyrical bands of all time…just wish more people knew it
Check out Peter Murphy's solo stuff, and Tones on Tail.
💯 even more so was Tones on Tail

Know what I need

I don't care what anyone says, Daniel Ash had the best hair in all of the entire alternative music scene universe in the 80s. Better than Robert Smith or Siouxsie Sioux and he was just too beautiful for words back then.
No, that would be Danielle Dax - but Ash's hair was still great.
I still love this look 😍 but I think Robert Smiths hair when it was at his biggest was the best !
I don't know what happened to my comment. Although I love Robert Smith I would not attribute one of his better attributes to great hair. I would have to give that to Mike Score when he had some.

I used to dress like Robert Smith but my hair was like Daniel Ash in high school 😂
I've loved this song so so so much my whole life, I smile while tears drop every time I hear it ❤️ ♥️ They make my heart explode
Can’t believe I can watch all these obscure 80s groups I adored. The drummer is very cute.
Obscure my ass!
Love this so much... it's like I'm 17 again when I hear this.
I'm replying to your comment 5 years later to say, yes, me too! It's crazy how music can do that.
his style is exquisite. and daniel is a work of art in a mentality level as well as a person. great song and video.
One of the best songs ever written in Rock -N- Roll history.

They’re like a hybrid of INXS and PETER MURHY. 💜💜💜 I Love this band.
They were in Bauhaus with Peter Murphy. Check out Tones on Tail as well.

daniel ash...THE TRUE GODFATHER OF GOTH STYLE!!!!
Actually it started with Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, the Cure, and Joy Division. Robert Smith of the Cure should get the title.

Love this song! A classic
This Is My Ultimate Favorite Song On The Express Album Ever ❤🚀 God Damn Rocks With No Sweat 😎🤘🏻
I like the song Express Train Kundalini too. In fact I love the whole album. I saw them in 1989 with The Cure and The Pixies.
Tripping voice.Great band !
absolutely in love with them
I saw these guys in the Cal-Berkeley Stadium in '87. Great concert.

ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAV BANDS. GOT TURNED ON THEM WHEN I WAS PARTYING IN BOSTON. IN THE LATE 80'S DOWN IN THE COMBAT ZONE.
I really liked this entire cd. I wish Love and Rockets would have been a bigger band.
Love my 80's. music. Such good memories Spring Break South Padre Island Texas live performance 1988.
brilliant band
I don’t like men but….. Daniel Ashe could be the exception lol
One of the most underrated song ever. And the lyrics are really deep and still actual today 😓🌈
These guys are aWesome. Lyric's are for only conscious peoples. :-)
I have always liked this song a lot.
