      @@MyDIYAdventures but in all seriousness great editing, and proud of you to tackle this project on your own.
      Im trying to decide if I should attempt building my garage (with help) or hire people, currently I have a 21x21 concrete pad already poured.
      A hold back for me is i live in a place where it snows at times, and I think I need to build a concrete skirt around the pad above the snow line before building my framing. Will refer back to this video once I have the skirting complete

    This is an excellent video! I'm looking at buying a house here soon, and while it has an integrated two-car already, I would like a detached garage to have for a long-term project car and all of my tools, plus a small office since I work from home. This actually makes it look do-able. I'd love to be able to put a lift in there, but that obviously also involves making it significantly taller than you did. Either way, this gives me some ideas!

      Here’s a playlist of a garage that was built to have a lift in it…this was way more of a project that I wanted to do alone though!

    One word of advice for a next project or just as an FYI, lay the plywood sheeting horizontally instead of vertical and stagger the joints. Yes, this would take more time as you have to cut sheets in half but its definitely worth it. With doing so, you would gain more strength and less movement later on.

      They were 2x6x24s 48” on center, but they’re only considered “cross ties” because they aren’t big enough to hold an actual ceiling. I think they would need to be 2x12s on every rafter just to hold drywall.

    Could you be able to put Garage door rough framing dimensions , including Header’s dimensions, please ??

    • @MyDIYAdventures
      @MyDIYAdventures  2 роки тому

      The door opening is 16’x7’
      It has a double 2x12 header with 1/2” OSB sandwiched between to make it 3 1/2” wide. The header is sitting on double Jack studs on either side of the door.
      If the door header is bearing the weight of a roof or floor structure, the header needs to be an engineered beam like an LVL.

      @@MyDIYAdventures It looks like your ceiling joists/rafter ties are one-piece (24 feet long). Are they also 2 by 8 or 2 by 6? Where can we get one-piece 24 feet of lumber? I know Home Depot and Lowe's only sell lumbers no more than 16 feet. Thanks!

    • @MyDIYAdventures

      These came from Carter Lumber, you’d probably have to find a dedicated lumber yard for those. If you’re in the Midwest, Menards should be able to get them also.

    I'd be curious to know how you got the ridgeline set and first set of rafters nailed in w/o a second set of hands? You skip ahead and don't show any detail on the difficult parts.
