*This comment is for anyone considering buying a Xymox* I've had a 14" reserve snare for a little over a year. The most important thing to know if you are buying a Xymox is that you should NEVER pay full price. They regularly go on sale for 50% off (several times a year) and as of now (February 2, 2019) they are having a 50% off sale. If you want to know when those sales are, follow them on Instagram or other social media--they post when sales are going on. I bought my fully customized 14" pad for $50 plus shipping (making it cheaper than the Offworld), and if you want a 12" one it's even cheaper. Mine took about 5 months to get to me, and that's a pretty normal wait time (they are hand assembled in the U.S.A. which is why it takes so long). As far as durability goes, after a year of intense usage (about an hour a day, every day) it still works perfectly, but cosmetically it's in rough shape. The paint comes off over time of hitting the wood on the sides, and I've cracked the laminate on the head in the center (it doesn't feel any different, just looks bad) in a couple places. Aside from having to wait a long time, which I knew was the case, I've loved the pad. It feels VERY similar to a marching snare head and sounds just like a marching snare sounds when you've got earplugs in. Other things to note: the rim does tend to chew up sticks over time if you hit as hard as I do. Also you can always buy different rims or lugs on the website if you want to change it up. I would strongly recommend buying one if you have the patience to wait for a sale and wait out the delivery time (maybe get an Evans RealFeel to hold yourself over because it's a really good feeling all-purpose pad that's cheap and easy to find). Hopefully this is informative to anyone curious.
Davidnotbrave 2 it’s louder than your average pad. I bought it as a replacement to getting an actual snare for recording myself playing licks and stuff. If you’re looking for something only for practice and quiet, there are much cheaper options out there by Evans or VicFirth or ProLogix.

Not sure if you know this but i had an instructor whos xymox pad had cracked and gotten beaten up real bad over time and he had mentioned that he was gonna ship it out to xymox and they would fix it up for him. I dont know if they actually do that or if he ever got his fixed but if you ever feel like getting yours fixed it might be worth looking into.
i started practicing snare for drum corps almost exactly one month ago. I ordered an offworld v3 and some ralph hardimon signatures, and they felt great, and while the pad was delayed, it still came in 4 or 5 days. I had my first auditions last Saturday, and while I was there I played a marching snare drum for the very first time, and nobody noticed that I hadn't played on a real drum before that! The pad feels great, and while i played on some realfeels and what not before I got my invader, they were nothing like real drums. The invader was just like it though. Great job Offworld!

I have offworld, beetle, real feel, rampad, prologix vortex, movement, vicfirth slimpad and I do have the xymox reserve 14 inch. I never play my xymox the fact that it took 6 months just to get the wrong rim left a bad taste in my mouth and I feel it was not worth it. I would definitely not order another one ever. I would always go offworld all day everyday you get your money's worth and you get to practice. Of all the pads I listed I love them all but I'm done with xymox. I'm going to be trying a company called reflexx soon and they look awesome 😎
Bro, I LITERALLY went through the same thing, lol. They gave me the wrong rim as well, blue on blue doesn't look good, and it took em about 9 months for me. I NEVER touch that pad. It's still sitting pretty in my closet in the box. I just stick to my 3 year old Offworld Invader. It's never failed me
It took me 5 months to get my xymox snare pad and 6 months to get my tenor pad. Never again will I buy new from xymox! I found others and Craig’s list etc
Thanks for the video. I really enjoy playing on both these pads. I also still have my original 25 year old real feel and an old Remo (10" maybe) . When my son ordered the Xymox a couple years ago, he had it within a very short time. I do enjoy the snare sound you get with the Xymox.
my friend got a xymox pad and the plastic on top broke open and is tearing off after around 2 years of having it. he's had an offworld pad for around the same time and it's still in great shape and still works well
Don't. Service has been embarrassing from day one and for years. The sound gets tiring fast, but sounds great outside though. Pricey AF! And I personally started missing the gummy feel of other pads. And if you're drumming indoors, it's pretty loud So be aware of that depending on where you are.
I'm the percussion caption head for my band and drumline and some of my kids ordered a Xymox pad and went through the same problem. It took so long for them to get their pad but it only took 1 day to get my invader from amazon.
I am in the same situation. I ordered my pad August 2018 and my order still has not been completed due to incorrect rim (because they are STILL out of stock). Its been 5 months and they keep giving false estimated times. “2 weeks, 2 more weeks, etc. Mind blown managment have not simply reach out to new suppliers. I am also waiting for the black rims. I have both pads as well, not worth waiting. I will likely file a Better Business Bureau complaint and have them contact xymox instead of wasting my own time following up. I recommend you do the same.
I've had a similar situation. I ordered mine during a July 4th promotional sale last year, and it didnt come in until this Jan 14th. And they changed the color of the sky blue rim to a royal blue type color... but did not even mention this to me. I would've requested a different color if that was ever mentioned.. I was really appalled and I wonder if some legal actions could be taken against them? Seems like false advertising to me.. They also failed to tell me they were going to change the bottom rubber side from almost fully covering the bottom to just having four small circles of rubber.. I wasnt notified once... I like your idea of contacting the BBB and may do that myself...
I ordered a low profile double and 14” double and they replaced them with something else without asking me what I wanted to do. I would have preferred to get my money back because I already had a couple reserve snares and don’t need another, really bad customer service.
It's two exercises put together. First one is called Flam thing (mostly just the check pattern with the variations), second one is first half of the exercise called Susie. Bluecoats and a bunch of other people play it. I think it originated back in the 80s or 90s
Hi! Non-Snare Player, Music major here! I ordered a reserve Xymox pad recently. I’m taking a percussion class at college and I’ve been dying to get one of their pads since high school. I’m honestly really not impressed with their customer service/manufacturing either. If I came to your videos first, I probably would have never bought from them. But at the time, I thought it would be a great time to buy a pad from them. Now I’m waiting on an email from customer service, crossing my fingers to hear a response. I might send another one later this week. Now I’m in a similar boat. I bought a Vic Firth Pad, just so I had something to play on for class. Thank god I settled on the Reserve too, after I’ve seen what you’ve been through with the hybrid, I really felt pretty okay with my purchase. Which isn’t saying much considering how bad the service is to begin with. I really wanted to get a xymox tenor pad in high school as well. But now I’m really reconsidering that as well. Do you have any suggestions for a good pitched tenor pad? I own a Vic Firth tenor pad, which has served me well, but I’m just curious if you know anything about that too. Anyways, take it easy! Thanks for making these videos, they’re very helpful!
Check out my latest video. Don't expect ANY response from their customer no-service people. I sent 17 emails about my broken drum with no response. ua-cam.com/video/PPO6E_qVPlo/v-deo.html
Great video! I ordered a Xymox pad for my nephew for his 5th birthday. He still hasn't received it and he just reached drinking age. I am exaggerating of course lol... I have a Xymox pad; I also recently bought a Reflexx pad and I like it. Have you tried the Reflexx pad?
I have an off world but it was always weighing down my backpack. Thought about getting a Xymox but heard it took a LONG time to deliver and I wasn’t going to waste my money. Instead I got a RamPad. Got it in blue, best decision I made. Got to my house in 3 days and is so light I carry it in my backpack every time I go to band practice, to be honest, yes, Xymox is great for snare sound, but I am currently on the bass line and I wanna be on the snare line, but still I love my RamPad because it has great sound and rebound, and love that it doesn’t weigh down my backpack! Expensive, but worth it.
I can understand that the Xymox pads are made to order but still it takes way too long. I'm from latin america and bought a 14" reserve pad and it took nearly a year to get mine shipped to Panamá and have it in my hands. Edit: forgot to add, I bought my pad on a promotion they did that didn't have customisation. It was only the pad with an extra rim so it should've been a shorter wait
Hey SnareMan! I love your review videos they are very professional. Could you please do a review on the RCP pad? I’m interested in those pads but there aren’t really any good reviews on it. Thanks!
Can you review the movement drum co pad and the RCP drum pad? Also, I have both pads and I still use the invader more than my xymox. I mostly use my xymox outside as I prefer its sound over the invader but besides that I rarely use it now. I could input how I had to wait so long and pester customer support for info and such, but regardless of that stuff, once I got my xymox, I was happy with how it turned out minus a few issues, yet even with getting it, the invader just kinda trumps the xymox. IMO what you can get with a xymox is overhyped, it's not a bad pad at all, but with an invader I get all that I need from a pad (and I can still personalize it, like I've slapped a bunch of stickers on mine) I'd say if you need a pad, get an invader or real feel. If you already have one and want one that has the snare sound/a different play feel to it, and you want something really personal (with their iD custom pads) then a xymox, otherwise with its current wait time and other issues that may arise it's just not worth it.
I liked how the xymox feels and sounds but I just see the purple rim I didn't want and they gave me the wrong color on the bottom too I waited 6 months if they had given me what I ordered I would have been happy but man 6 months to get the wrong thing smh.
The first half is just the check pattern with the variations thrown in that I made up. The second half is part of Suzy, the Bluecoats warmup. There is music on the internet somewhere if you google it.
I'm not sure if they are any better. I hear they might be, but I'm not sure. No pad feels just like a drum through and they will all give you pad hands.
I recently ordered a Xymox. Took about 2 and a half weeks to receive it. I got the 14" one that is pretty much just the top of a marching snare. Awesome pad, just stay on top of the customer service if you order.
@@georgeguest397 Nice to hear they might've fixed their customer service, but I'm probably just going to go with an offworld pad because it seems more reliable and durable. Might look into xymox in the future again but idk.
the xymox pad sounds amazing to me but i get anxiety waiting for a pizza to show up, so i guess ill go with the offworld v3 hybrid for now and maybe order the xymox with hopes of receiving it some time in 2022
@@SnareMan yeah i ended up ordering the v3 hybrid. been practicing on an evans realfeel and thats fine and everything but wanted something with a little sizzle. also I'm not able to drop $600 on a snare. thanks for the heads up, i know this video is old but tbh i was hoping maybe they actually got their shit together and stopped ripping high school kids off for money they don't have.
@@BareTactical No, they are no better. My hybrid snare broke, again, and I can't even get them to return an email to get a new rim for it after 11 emails to them.
Entirely agree with xymox customer service. They forgot to ship mine until I brought it up to them almost a year later and then sent me a pad I didn’t order. Xymox customer service was not very helpful and still don’t have exactly what I ordered. It’s been over a year.
Is their any where else I could possibly get a xymox pad besides ordering it from the actual website? Because after reading the comments I don’t wanna pay that much and risk not getting it
Can I buy 1 of them off of you I've been looking everywhere and I can't find any. I also don't trust xymox shipping so used makes sense. I will pay full price please
@@soup8846 they are available on their website. I just checked. They may differ than what’s here as far as color and style. This comment was over three years ago. Both these pads are done. I’m actually using a outlander pad from Offworld and a couple other pads. Either one of these will help getting your chops. They have gone up a lot though. When I bought mine there were about $60-70. Now they are closer to $100 and the xymox are over $100. I think both are worth it. Hope this helps, happy drumming.
Took me 5 months to get my Xymox snare pad and 6 1/2 months to get my Xymox tenor pad. Tons of emails with so many excuses, like waiting on shipping boxes, then the new boxes were wrong. The phone number they provided is for out going calls only. If you want a Xymox pad, find them used on EBay etc
I’m new to drumming I noticed that ur right elbow was far away from ur body? However ur left arm was close to ur.body is there a reason ur right arm sticks out some what from ur side? I hope I can be as proficient as you with your technique....thanks Howie
On my xymox, the lammanite has peeled off in the center. Can be partly because of the Vic Firth hammers (xymox has said not to play with those sticks on the pad) or it can be due to wear. ( I’ve had the pad for about 5 years now) Hasn’t broken through underneath the actual surface just the top layer. Can be annoying at times just to hear the plastic. Overall still a great pad.
I've had mine for a little over a year and I've cracked the laminate using standard Promark TXDC17Ws (granted I hit pretty heavily), but it still feels and plays as good as new.
Dean Natale same, kept on cracking even to this day when playing on standard ralphies. Still a good pad nonetheless, Hadn’t had any other trouble with it
So, I'm not a drum corps or in any college drumline since the same story like you, college, work, and reel feel pad in your closet though surprising my pad seems to have survived but keeps spitting out sand?? I'm still using my high school marching snare sticks: Ralph Hardimons with my new invader pad. I been inspired to relearn marching snare again. What sources can I look up? Would appreciate your opinion thanks. Phil
spot on with the customer service! xymox is horrible if you're lucky enough to speak to them and jerks when you do. i think they're just a bunch of stoners. took 6 months for mine. so long i even forgot about it.
I have always been looking for a good pad with a snare mechanism, but still could be a versatile pad. I was so excited when I saw the xymox and what they had to offer. I was very intrigued with the ability to customize the pad entirely. When I went through the reviews, I ass a little concerned. I tried to message them to ask a question and couldn't get anything from them and this was back in January. Last night I got a B line offworld and an invader hybrid last night. Really excited for the offworld I ones too.
i want a drum pad with plenty of rebound and i want to feel like i'm actually playing a snare drum. xymox sounds very good but i don't want to wait a whole year to get one so i want something i can have in a few days so i can start beating my drum asap. snareman i know you can guide me in the right direction
don’t normally comment on videos but have to say…...Brilliant review! Don’t know much about American drumming but looks and sounds awesome, I play in a flute band (the drumming style is similar to pipe bands (but not as good lol), play same HTS drums. i was looking for a new practice pad (using a Rad Pad at the mo) and after watching this i want them both lol. managed to find a UK dealer "Southern Percussion” and ordered the Offworld Invader V3 Practice Pad (£72 + £4.99pp) should arrive in 2 days :D (went for the chameleon laminate) I will order a 12” xymox reserve in a few days once i decide on colour choice (hopefully they ship to UK) anyway cheers for the review, helped alot
Thanks for the kind words Tracey! Let me know how you like the pads when you get them and how long that xymox pad takes to get. How did you come across this video?
@@SnareMan i googled "best marching practice pad", the offworld and xymox was most popular, had never heard of them tho (locally its all Jim Kilpatrick gear), your xymox video was first in the list, i watched loads but this one was the best, explained everything. yeah i will let you know how it goes. lol prob take a year for the xymox but will have the offworld anyway. look forward to trying it out, back to u soon
Hi SnareMan just thought I would let u know I finally got my 12" xymox (cobalt metallic version) TODAY!! lol ordered 4th Feb, worth the wait tho, its amazing, love it. got it half price sale, shipping was a bit pricy to the UK then the surprise import fee :o :/ my offworld v3 arrived in 3 days, nice pad and been using it every day but love the xymox defo feels like playing on a real snare, looks and sounds great. happy i have both pads ;) :D
i love the xymox pad i love that snare sound it sounds very close to a real snare drum but i would love to have both of them cause i want to get back to playing and building up my chops
This was the first half of it. Basically just a check pattern and variations. I just added a few of my own. umassdrumline.org/wp-content/uploads/Flam-Thing-2017.pdf
I'm not sure what you mean. I did just get an email from them saying that the rim is still not in and now is supposed to be the end of the month. Pathetic
Does anyone know the exact material the dark matter is made up of? I own a couple of these pads but wanted to possibly make my own mini version of one for travel
@@1certain not sure how interesting of a video that would be although it was indeed drastically different just from a technology standpoint alone. Everyone standing in line for pay phones. No one had air mattresses. Everyone had a bunch of cassette tapes. Oh, and there was none of that electronics crap to lug around the field. :-)
SnareMan A lot of alumni, especially my band director, show a lot of dislike to how drum corps is shifting to a much more visual dance-driven activity. What are your thoughts on that? (Sorry, this is turning into more of an interview. I'm doing an interview for my senior project for English and there not many alumni who are interested in interviews or talking about their careers. My band director marched in the mid-70s so I'd like someone from the 90s as my tech marching in the early 2000s and now writes shows for ensembles right now, he was also a coats alumni! From '06.
Yea, the activity has certainly changed. Probably a lot to try and type here. Corps don't have identities any more. You used to know a corps by their uniform. No more. I liked things on their heads (shakos/helmets, etc) so you didn't see the performers as individuals, but as one corps. And then at the end of the show when they'd march in front of the stands and had taken them off you would see they are actually real people. Kind of odd I know. I think Phantom is the only corps left that generally still wears white and plays classical music. Life was also certainly simpler before electronics. And yes, the unis have to be different now because you can't dance and roll around on the ground in the old style unis.
Ordered a DrumSlinger sextet pad a couple of years ago. Waited 6 months and heard nothing from them. I got my money back but needless to say they suck lol
@@SnareMan Their employees are working from home and one of them have not been responding to emails for a long time so they just recently fired her and have a new support email, I forgot what it was but im sure you can find it somewhere.
Why do so many bloo bangers love the Steelers? lol You better keep your chops up for 2022! I'm still rocking my 1996 real feal. Doesn't feel very "real" though, and looks like it went through WW3. Good review sir!
Thanks! My Steeler's love started around age 7. Maybe it's that Steelers fans become Bloo Bangers? Mine is pretty well worn and doesn't feel too real either. Hard to believe how old the pad is. I have 3 years to get to the point of not sucking with my chops. :-)
I have both of these pads, among others, and there is not enough difference from a rebound standpoint to justify the price difference IMO. If you want the "snare sound" then at present you will have to go with the Xymox. Wishing Offworld would configure a snare sound contraption for their existing pads and then the decision would be a no brainer for me. The Offworld is virtually indestructible and I feel like I can throw it around (not that I do that) with no damage. I baby my Xymox so it does't show wear and tear but it is well made and should hold up to the rigors of high school kids.(although I don;t let the high school kids use it beyond "Hey try this pad out and then I say "Now go buy your own".) Wishing Xymox would improve their customer service. That's really important to me. (and others as well I'm sure).
Ok thanks for answering me about elbow ,when I watch other videos THIER elbows stay in close to THIER bodies they don’t flare out at all ... evidently I guess it doesn’t matter whether your elbows are out or in ,thank you so much...Howie < God bless
Underneath the xymox is the same as the purple Vic Firth drumpads. The sticker or whatever invader gave you is the same that’s on top of the Xymox pad.
I ordered my xymox pad in late November, and after reading all of these comments, I am afraid that I won't get it till March or April. They told me that it will be here this week or next week, but I am afraid that I will receive the wrong rim or the wrong colors.😥
From what they tell me, they got a shipment of rims in and are allegedly supposed to be sending me my correct one. So maybe you will get the correct one
Never played on a xymox. I'm scared to order a pad now after I order the hybrid snare and I hear all the problems. Guess I should have done more research. Lol. I got an email saying it's going to be shipped this week. We will see I guess. I own the offworld scojo and the invader hybrid. Both are amazing! I got all the attachments for the hybrid as well. Worth every penny!
Mannnnn I got so carried away with drum pads! I have a Vic firth slim pad, offworld scojo and the hybrid, the prologix blackout pad, rcp premium pad and my xymox pad arrived today lol. Carried! Away!!! Lol
We ordered our sons Custom Quad Pad from XYMOX in November of 2019 and haven't heard anything since. $185 and we need to take a trip to Cali and do a factory tour or something. I have both pads as well, not worth waiting. I will likely file a Better Business Bureau complaint and have them contact xymox instead of wasting my own time following up. I recommend you do the same.
I think they told me in their last email they had a new supplier. Said to contact them on 1/9 which I did. Waiting to hear back.
You’d be surprised how quickly they get their shit together once you’ve file a complaint!
I ordered a low profile double and 14” double and they replaced them with something else without asking me what I wanted to do. I would have preferred to get my money back because I already had a couple reserve snares and don’t need another, really bad customer service.
@@cmikulski sounds cool, but after I filed complaints, they just sent me the wrong pad. A piece of s*** I didn't order .

It's two exercises put together. First one is called Flam thing (mostly just the check pattern with the variations), second one is first half of the exercise called Susie. Bluecoats and a bunch of other people play it. I think it originated back in the 80s or 90s

No problem. Thanks for watching!
Do yourself a favor and consider other brands than spending money on xymox percussion. If you have 100 plus dollars to spend on a pad buy drumslinger.
rcp
Athan Troquille I’ve been seeing them a lot on Instagram. I like what their doing.
They go on sale very often for half off especially around holidays

Great video! I ordered a Xymox pad for my nephew for his 5th birthday. He still hasn't received it and he just reached drinking age. I am exaggerating of course lol... I have a Xymox pad; I also recently bought a Reflexx pad and I like it. Have you tried the Reflexx pad?
Just so you know Offworld customer service is outstanding. Had questions on using Armour All And they answered me same day.
They certainly couldn't be any worse than Xymox. I
I have an off world but it was always weighing down my backpack.
When I ordered my xymox pad in August I believe and they claimed to be in the process of expansion
That's clearly going well for them
Yeah , I have been waiting for my Xymox pad from May 2018 and it's didnt' arrived yet until now! Crazy

Dude, I ordered their “new” tenor kick things six months go and have yet to receive it. And they aren’t responding to my emails either.
They at least respond to my emails, but the wait isn't shocking.
That’s crazy man I never heard nothing like that
I can understand that the Xymox pads are made to order but still it takes way too long.
I agree - definitely too long
Hey SnareMan! I love your review videos they are very professional. Could you please do a review on the RCP pad? I’m interested in those pads but there aren’t really any good reviews on it. Thanks!
Been waiting 16 months for my son's Xymox pad. Wish I saw this video before ordering.
Not surprising unfortunately
Can you review the movement drum co pad and the RCP drum pad?
Also, I have both pads and I still use the invader more than my xymox. I mostly use my xymox outside as I prefer its sound over the invader but besides that I rarely use it now. I could input how I had to wait so long and pester customer support for info and such, but regardless of that stuff, once I got my xymox, I was happy with how it turned out minus a few issues, yet even with getting it, the invader just kinda trumps the xymox. IMO what you can get with a xymox is overhyped, it's not a bad pad at all, but with an invader I get all that I need from a pad (and I can still personalize it, like I've slapped a bunch of stickers on mine)
I'd say if you need a pad, get an invader or real feel. If you already have one and want one that has the snare sound/a different play feel to it, and you want something really personal (with their iD custom pads) then a xymox, otherwise with its current wait time and other issues that may arise it's just not worth it.
I'll have to see if I can get one
I liked how the xymox feels and sounds but I just see the purple rim I didn't want and they gave me the wrong color on the bottom too I waited 6 months if they had given me what I ordered I would have been happy but man 6 months to get the wrong thing smh.
@@an4yb7ack The latest from them is that the new rims should have been in this week. I won't hold my breath
Yea lol it's a shame because if they could fix that they would probably sell even more . It's a good unique product.

Do u have sheet music for what u played on both the pads near the end?!? Looks cool I wanna learn it!

Update- Offworld now makes a pad with snare sound! Move over Xymox. Great customer service is here and with a snare sound pad. BYOS

Any idea if Xymox fixed their shipping since this video is 4 years old now? I want a pad that feels like a snare but I don’t want to wait forever

It's just the natural way of holding the sticks when playing traditional.
@13:21 - Oh, how I love cheezy rudiments.

Yep. Last I saw there were about 300 people signed up including I think 15 snares
