I really enjoy your videos. You do a good job giving us information as you go down your trap line. The videos are excellent. Keep up your good work. Thank you for your efforts.
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 absolutely you do. Your very clear on what you do and how you do it. I'm 64 live in far northwest Wisconsin and want to get out beaver trapping but we are getting tons of snow. Over waste deep.
Cool thanks! At some time near the end of the season I’ll go over the layers of gear I wear and what goes into my pack. I’ve kinda been saving that for a trap check when I don’t catch anything but I’ve been blessed with catches. I’ll start some story telling as well.
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 March 31st But I’m done caught way to many this year it definitely will effect my count next year but sometimes a bigger pack moves in rite away never know with wolves
Yeah when my wife asked me how I wanted them I went and got my 2 layer charhartt pipeline glove and she used that to make them. It’s a bit big for one thin pair of gloves but work just fine. And at -60 they are just amazing. Glad you enjoyed, have a good one!
Really enjoy your video's. It's like being back on my old trapline. I miss my days in the interior. I'm glad you got a kick out of my comment about the pickled moose nose. I worked with a fellow in Fairbanks who was from Ft. Yukon. He brought some in one day and I tried some.
Great video of your day on the line. You do such a great job explaining everything you do. Now you have 2 lucky rabbit feet ( or maybe unlucky rabbit lol) Good luck, wolf season ends the 15th here in Mont. Good luck !
Yeah every day out there is great. Yeah I think that’s the first double foot catch on a rabbit in years. Our wolf season runs until the end of April, but I’ll pull my gear earlier than that. Thanks for watching
Nice vid good to hear some of ur wisdom always good to learn some new trap sets head a Wolverine walk 50 yards past my lynx cubby he must of not smelled the bait 👍 god bless you and stay safe out there
Ah man when I woke up this morning I saw that! Still can’t believe how quick the channel has popped up in the last 2 months. I did 10 months of videos where every video would get me one more sub. I still have about 3 videos to edit so I’ll have trapping stuff every week for a while. Thanks for watching and commenting bro!
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 ya it’s great watching it grow, but you have a knack for great commentary and nice video editing. Also a good variety of content!
@@deadpinecollective thanks! Much appreciated. You make it look so easy. I hope I come across well when I explain a set. The editing takes a good chunk of time but I’ve been putting that into my videos so I kinda have to keep it up. Right now it’s mostly trapping but I’ll be filming a bunch of stuff throughout the year. I’m getting excited about geese and duck hunting this spring!
I like the 330 cubby set, but just curious why you would set the dog on the second notch instead of the first? That makes for a pretty stiff trigger to fire the trap. Are you trying to prevent incidental bird or marten catches? Great videos! I'm planning a trapping trip to AK this next fall.
Thanks for writing. Most of the time my notch selection has to do with the pole I set on top of. So a bigger pole the wider I need the jaws to be to sit firmly. I also try not to catch marten and owls in my 330s. So if I had to choose I would go with the stiffer trigger. Very cool where do you plan on going here in Alaska?
Some beautiful mittens you have. Did your wife trim the moose hair a bit or leave it full length? We have a full tanned moose hide on the banister with all the fur still on it. Maybe I can talk her into making me a pair. They sure look nice.
Yeah they are a great pair of mitts. I forgot to say that the fur on my gloves is Beaver fur. Oh man a tanned moose skin without any hair can cost as much as 3,400$. It’s gotten really spendy. That’s awesome to have the full skin with the hair on it. I’d like to do that someday
Starting to look like spring time up there, we have the same thing going on, I'm slowly starting to put out some beaver sets as some of the faster water opens up. Can't say I've ever had a marten in a 330, I have caught them in a #4 long spring. They changed our rules a few years ago, so now I can't have a 330 on land anywhere near bait or scent. We can still make baited 220 sets but they have to be inside a box or bucket... apparently it's too much to ask of people to watch their dogs 🤷♂️
Yeah it’s definitely warming up! Very cool I have a buddy that’s gunna show me how to put some beaver sets in here in about a month. Yeah this is the first marten I’ve ever caught in a 330. Actually I caught a gray jay in one not to long ago. Now that was crazy to see. Man people just don’t want to be responsible for their dogs it’s a problem up here as well. Have a good one dude!
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 I don't get it, I have dogs and I recognize that they're my responsibility. It's not like they adjust roadway laws so dogs don't get hit, people have been trapping far longer than driving...
@@Northwoods208 yeah. If one of my 9 dogs gets away from me I go get them. And if I know there are traps around there is no way they go off leash. Yeah I like that trapping had been around forever driving just a hundred and fifty.
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 mine are off leash mostly, but they listen and they know the road is a bad deal and any meal that looks free, probably has an mb-750 buried nearby lol
Thanks! I try to put as much bait out there as I can and spread it out all over. I use iMovie either on my phone or my wife’s iPad. The wife has done the moose hunting one on a laptop. It works well and is free. I used up all the free music on there and now subscribe to (epidemic sound) they have a crazy amount of music and sounds. Oh yeah I’ll use CapCut which is free for the shorts I put up. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching sir!
Thanks! I’ve caught a wolverine, Lynx, and gray jay in FPS so far. The jaws close with no gap and they fire reliably. The springs are a bit lighter, trigger wires are a bit thinner and the lock on the spring is cheap. But for me I can get 3 of them landed here in Venetie Alaska for 75$. Which is great, even in the closest city the cheapest I can get 330s are 28$ not including me carrying them around driving them to the airport and paying anywhere between 50 cents a pound to almost 2 dollars a pound for freight. So I expect the FPS to be a bit on the lower quality side only because of the price. But I trust them to fire and they have already proven to work for me. Thanks for asking 👍
Oh man I bet. No exactly easy to get them out of here. Myself I never really cared for the taste. But I can eat king salmon all the time. Thanks for watching!
Haha. How’s it goin Ken? One of 6 buildings almost finished for this year. 2 waiting on plumbing parts to sign off on. The new power plant for the village is shelled in and some power lines moved. But I’m not part of that project. I’ll be building a log bridge when the creek waters drop another couple feet.
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 when you build log bridge you want to wrap logs at joints with cable use big staples made to hold cable. Let's logs move or nails just pull out. Logs shrunk expand
