Your videos are just fantastic! The native stories, native clothing all make for an intensely interesting and exciting adventure!!! There’s no way I could stop watching one of your videos!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks for the support! It’s much appreciated. Just filmed another episode yesterday👍
Reading tracks is like playing a game isn’t it, I could just replay that for all day lol 😂 map looking is my other nemesis. Thanks
I really enjoy your videos. Greetings from Dunbar, Alaska.
Very good video good luck
Another great video!
Thanks! Ah man I can’t wait to build a cabin like yours👍
Your videos are so enjoying to watch, your filming skills are rite up there with your trapping skills love your channel,be safe
Thanks! It’s much appreciated. Welcome to the channel. Have a good one
I loved the video, just now finding your channel so i think i have a lot of back videos to watch
Cool! Welcome to the channel. This is the second trapping season that I uploaded to UA-cam. Have a good one👍
That was a great day out on your line, beautiful cat , really enjoy your videos.
Yeah an awesome day for sure. Thanks for watching.
You've got things set up nicely for when the wolves move through! Hopefully you'll have a few of them!! Congrats on that beautiful cat!
Oh yeah the wolves are some smart ones. Thanks!
No doubt, the village appreciates your trapline labors. God bless you too brother...
Yeah I get a lot of my people taking about trapping, it’s great. Have a good one
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 That's wonderful bro...
Another fantastic video, I appreciate the effort u put into making them, beautiful country u live in
Thanks. Much appreciated 👍 we sure love it up here
What a beautiful cat! Always a bit of a sad day when I have to pull my gear. I pulled my wolf gear a couple weeks ago because I had to have some surgery on my neck. No new sign on the last check but looking forward to next year. The wife went with me on the last check and helped me pull my gear. A fun day.
Yeah an awesome one. Yeah I usually feel like I’ll be sadder but when the time comes I know I have duck and geese hunting I need to get ready for.
Ah man I hope your surgery went well. Yeah next year I’m going to run another line along with the one I have now.
Cool I’m prolly going to take the wife when I pull my traps as well. Thanks for writing👍
Adding that music to a beautiful sunny day i think is the reason that makes your videos so relaxing to watch.Eager to see the results of your next check. Oh yes, don’t forget the music!!lol!
Thanks. Much appreciated! Some times I’m not sure if I put to much music in there. Oh yeah I’ve caught another lynx and wolverine since this check. This was filmed at the end of February.
I’ve got a funny feeling that those catches had YOU singing the song!!lol!!
Great 330 set. Later and all the best.
I’ve tried a handful of 330 sets from buckets to pens. Non have worked as well as the cubby that I use now. I haven’t had a refusal or a miss in a couple years. I still put out a few others if the location calls for it. Thanks
Excellent description for video... that lynx was great catch.. beautiful day in alaska... thanks for the knowledge..
Thanks. It was really a beautiful day. The sun is really beating down on the snow now. Have a good one
That was a beautiful cat for sure! Those trail sets are lethal for those Lynx. I enjoy seeing your country. Thanks for taking us along.
Yeah trail sets work great, but the time it takes to move it to drive through can feel a bit annoying until it connects. I’m glad you like my land. I worry some times that I’m showing to much trail riding.
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Love the trail riding stuff!
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Yeh I love seeing the trail as well
@@LEE-kr7vw cool! I’ll make sure to have a bit in every video👍
@@Tommyr awesome👍
Another awesome video such beautiful country!
Thanks! We sure love it up here. The freedom is addictive👍
I can take a lot of that country. I have a home made chinchilla fur hat like that. Really warm. Take care.
Cool I was a bit worried I put to much trail riding in the video. Nice! I bet that’s a warm hat! Have a good one
Nice cat!!
😎👍🏻🇺🇸
Thanks! Really beautiful fur on that one
I would trade catching a whack of coyotes to have wolverines around.
Nice lynx, hope you get a good price. The sale a few days ago went better than I expected, but there were a few sales that went so low that it wasn`t worth the effort I put into them.
But I don`t do it for the money haha
Keep at it!!!
Oh man I am definitely blessed to be where I am and the land my tribe owns.
The lynx will prolly be given away or sold along with a couple wolverine for a small increase in cash.
Yeah if they were selling I would have dozens of traps and dozens of snares out there during the season.
I’ve been doing it to keep my culture alive and for the money. Lol
Always thumbs up 👍
Thanks. The sun was beating down that day. Have a good one
Love seeing your videos. Season is closed here now for everything. Beaver and otter closed 10 days ago. I'm glad you have more season to be out in nature. Looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed. This was filmed the last day of February, i’m a bit behind on editing, but I think it will work out with a video every week for the next month at least
Right on man good to see ya agin see you on the next one thank you for the video
Thank you sir. Appreciate the comment. Have a good one
Love your enthusiasm! What amount of mileage would you put on your snowmobile in a winter? Thanks. Ontario canada
Thanks! I put only trapping miles on it the first couple years so right now 1500 miles per winter. But until this winter I was using multiple rides. So that 1500 miles per winter might only be half of the total mileage I put in. Thanks for asking
It blows my mind that the Coyotes are operating that far north. Tenacious critters.
Yeah I watched a documentary once that showed them up on the north slope. They only have to eat once a week so they can really go anywhere in that time. Really amazing
Cant wait to start trapping, Jonesy
Cool! If you can get it on video. I wish I had started filming years ago. Have a good one
Great snap and check Gary. Gorgeous Lynx.
Thank you sir. Awesome day out there
The birds in the trees @ 2.46 sound like White Winged Crossbills they are probably nesting at this time of the year even at -40c. Those muskrat push-ups are perfect for wolf foothold sets freeze the cable in the push-up
Yeah I just looked them up that’s exactly the bird that was singing in the video. I flagged a few muskrat push-ups today
Awesome Wolverine set and description- you must have had a lot of great teachers mentoring your efforts
Thanks. Yeah I was able to skip a big chunk of the learning curve with all the tips and tricks taught to me by my dad and a lot of older trappers here in my village. They were quick to share it with me so I enjoy sharing it with everybody. Thanks for watching
I think that was your best video yet! So so good. Love all the information.
I’ve never seen a 330 hole set. Have you done that before? Looks like it would work.
I’m surprised you haven’t trapped for beavers before. They are fun. We should be starting next week 😁
Thanks! I’ve never caught anything in one of these only because wolverine don’t pass any other 330 sets so they never make it to the hole set. But I thought it would be cool to get it on video.
Yeah there is just no money in beaver trapping. I started to trap for a living 6-7 years ago. So I target what I can turn a profit on, when lynx was selling steady I caught over 50. Now I target wolf and wolverine for the most part.
Awesome can’t wait to see how you go about trapping beaver.
Oh yeah I’ll be setting some muskrat traps tomorrow on my trap check
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 awesome, I look forward to watching some beaver trapping!
I saw your canvas boots. I use canvas boots my mom an grandma made for me but I would hate to work in wet snow or over flow with them on so most time I just use my bunny boots.
Good stuff ! That marten will never know how lucky he was !!!
I know right the week before this, one wasn’t so lucky. It was the first I’ve ever caught in a 330. Thanks for watching👍
@@enigmaticgwichin1630if otter cat didn't have such a radio face he could make trapping videos too
Gotta see a video of how you or your wife do a hat out of your furs please!!!🙏
I’ll see if I can get a tanned beaver pelt this summer. My daughter needs a new hat so I’ll make sure to film it before this fall. Thanks for watching
Well done
Thanks. Beautiful day out there
It is beautiful out there but aren’t you worried about hitting a rock at that speed driving through that fresh snow
Yeah it’s great. There aren’t to many big rocks out there, but there are a lot of stumps and frozen chunks of tundra that can be bumped into. I guess I’m a bit used to it and I can 99 percent of the time spot out stumps and chunks of ice. There is a video I uploaded last year that has an title of open roam world. That has me breaking trail through a lot of open countryside
👏👏👏💪💪🙌🙌
Thanks! Have a good one
What is your trapping season ? Start to finish
How many other trappers in your community?
Right around Christmas to end of March. But we could keep trapping into April but we usually get to busy around that time.
Prolly 4 of us all together. Most are retired now, unless the price of fur makes a miraculous recovery. Thanks for watching
Cool. Man I went to training with a guy there I can't remember his name. He had went for power plant training few years ago.
Nice! From Venetie? Was his name Ryan?
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 yes. i believe so. I can't remember his name. Been awhile.
@@collinsmith9572 right on. Where are you located?
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Bristol bay.
@@collinsmith9572 nice! Hello fellow Alaskan👍
Great video! Nice catch on the lynx. Question: Can you snare wolverines or do you pretty much have to use a 330?
I’ve caught a few in snares. But they have a tough neck, long hair that can gum up a trap lock, and wire cutters for teeth.
I had one once get into a wolf snare and bite through the 1/8th in 1:19 snare wire before he even tangled himself up in the brush
But I’ve also caught and held onto them with lynx snares that I connected to toggles
Oh yeah I’ll catch a couple in wolf traps every year
How much would that hat sell for?
I seen it range from $200-$350
What is the toboggan/sled you use and the snow shovel
It’s a northern sled works UHMW sled. It’s a great sled expensive but worth it. My shovel is a break down snow shovel not sure of the brand. Just gotta be careful not to push the shovel to hard it’s a lightweight one. Thanks for watching👍
Could you tell us what headlamp you are using. Seems to work well
It’s a Fenix 3200 lumen headlamp. With an external battery pack. It works really well. Having the external battery pack inside my winter gear extends the battery life in cold weather.
What engine do you have in your Skandic
Hi Gary, my name is also Gary. Lol, my skandic has a 600 ace. Great on gas for sure
Do you run the same Trapline every year? I leave all my marten boxes up year after year. I take the bait out so bears don’t smash them.
I bounce some parts around add on or skip over some areas. I won’t take a chance leaving anything out there. Almost every trapper up here has lost traps to forest fires. They sweep through the black spruce.
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 do you have a designated area or is it a free for all? I have over 700 sq km (420 miles) that only I can trap. I try to keep it out of public sight so I can leave boxes up and it’s a quick start up for marten
@@deadpinecollective so I’ve soaked up alot of abandoned line and reopened others. Most of the people in my tribe are just glad somebody is trapping out there so they are quick to ok my trapping on their old lines.
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 that’s awesome. Most of the First Nation lines in BC are not being trapped. It’s a lost tradition that is obeying passed down. We have been given access to a couple more line from the local FN community. Ironically, the kids I teach absolutely love it and the elders love that I’m teaching it.
Not trying to criticize but at 19:08 looks like your wolf snare is to low an the hoop looks a little small definitely would work for wolverine.
Thanks for looking out. Wolves are heavy and sink into the snow. Also around bait they have their heads low sniffing for bait. The smallest loop possible is best so I don’t catch a wolf on the chest or have them step through and get a belly catch. But for every set the height and size of loop is a bit different.
That snare was a purchased snare from a furbuyer that was selling them a few years ago. Well made but the pigtail can be pulled apart by a huge wolf. Haven’t had it happen but have heard of it near my Trapline.
Happy holidays and god bless
Happy holiday Gabe an family wishing the best of luck on your line this year.
Why do you where ear protection. You want to have hearing loss. That way when you're old woman tells you to do something you can just say Hugh hugh
Haha I’ve shot so many guns and been driving loud machine since I was a kid. I already say Huh a bit to much. Lol thanks for writing
