    Hey, little heads up!
    A huge part of the poor heat handling of this hotbox are the 2 top fans. MSI designed both, top and front fans, as intakes, and only the smaller 120mm back fan as exhaust.
    What this means is that if you're using a liquid cooling system, the radiator on top will actually heat up the system, as it tries to exhaust heat over the top while the top fans try to push air in, resulting in heat getting sandwiched and the top fans being absolutely useless. There's an easy fix tho: Open up the top panel, and simply turn the fans around. It's not as pretty, but this will turn the top into an actual exhaust. I managed to cool my entire system by 10-15 degrees this way, CPU dropping from 80 degrees to an almost ridiculous 65 degrees average while playing games. This makes this case actually a lot better than initially thought!
    I don't know how much impact it would have on a fully air-cooled system, tho.
    Specs:
    -Ryzen 9 5950X cooled by Corsair H150i Pro XT Liquid Cooling
    -RTX 3080 12GB Gainward Phoenix
    -32 GB Trident Z Neo RGB RAM
    -MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi AMD

      Thanks for that input, man! When I first got this case I had the same idea (to turn the top two fans around so they'd exhaust), but I didn't see much of an improvement at the time. I think I'll have another look now and ensure that both my radiator fans and top two case fans are oriented for exhaust, maybe I messed something up back then... On that note, I did some DIY on the case, removing the acrylic plate in the front entirely from the case, and that's been a gamechanger for my temps. And best of all I think it still looks great even with that panel removed, just had to meticulously remove the leftover glue/double-sided tape.

    • @miracula7782
      @miracula7782 2 роки тому

      @@TheTechTank I should actually try that, removing the acrylic plate on top seems to be a great idea. I also replaced the unessecary backside glass with an aluminium plate, which I modded to have many air-holes. I can still open and close it back thanks to the original magnet close feature.
      Ngl, i thought im doomed to fry my components at first, but all these little details of this particular case made me wanna have it so badly. It's a standing, 20 kilogram fanservice box if you exclude the airflow. Speaking of the airflow, i replaced the back exhaust fan with a generic corsair RGB fan, which cooled my system down a little bit on top.
      Ps: Try to place the radiator in a way where its below the left (backside) side of the 200mm top fans, not in the middle. This helps the airflow from my experience

      @@TheTechTank I'd hope so! I'm currently working on some things around the case itself, just because I want to keep the front panel for looks. Basically, that means i'll try to install some kind of "extension" between the case and front fans and the front panel, which allows the fans to drag in more air... Sinply because the very tight construction is what limits airflow in the first place. I'm just struggling with stability, material, size and weight gain atm.
      I'll probably need a 3D printer to create an extension which is able to basically Plug into the case as if its the front panel, which then has the exact same characteristics on the front which allow me to then install the ACTUAL front panel on it... This will take a lot of time, but I really wanna see this case fixed.

      Honestly, if you find a card selling for an amazing price, then the cooling doesn't matter THAT much. Most cards generally perform about the same, and if you're worried about temps, just set a custom fan curve to keep said temps in check (as long as you don't mind it getting a little noisy).

    I have this case and love it. But I did some reading before buying it. Not just for the looks, but the front port and HD bay count. What I learned reading some posts, was to flip the top fans. Boom close to glass or not when you have proper exhaust direction at the top, works much better. Interesting find.... I did reverse the top fans and I have ZERO heat issues with a 12 Gen AIO and RTX 3080 12GB even in the summer it runs well within specs. But I found an image of MSI's Prebuilt PC based on this case, the MSI Gaming Desktop Infinite RS 11TE-218US Guess what. They reversed the top fans in their prebuilt, where they are responsible for the machine warranty. But shipped them to look pretty and with poor air flow when they sold to PC builders. HMMMMM

    Ok so I am currently doing a build with this case. The CPU and the GPU will both be liquid cooled courtesy of EKWB tech. However I am having a B!7ch of a time trying to get the front panel off to work with the fans, as I noticed that it is secure via multiple plastic fittings on both sides. Great for snapping in, bad for removing. Nearly blistered my fingers trying to squeeze the plastic fittings at the top alone! Nearly broke the top plastic fitting with a pair of pliers!
    How did you remove the front without wanting to break the whole panel? 😄

    I'm getting the Sekira 100R version next week
    From where I stand, that case, even though it's cheaper than the 500X, has some major improvements:
    - better airflow, due to the fans having more room in the front and the top being almost fully meshed out
    - completely removable front panel, since the RBG is using a magnet controller which requires no cables
    - stands which lift the case up and give the PSU room to breathe
    And it does all this while keeping pretty much the same looks and premium design, except a few differences of course

      @@TheTechTank I suppose it'll be better than the 500X. It has more room for the fans in the front, since they aren't stuck against the front panel, and there is a huge hole on the bottom of the front panel. The bottom has more than enough breathing room, as well, since it's very open because of the stands, so the PSU will have fresh air.
      The top panel is also almost completely open, with holes all over the place.

    Yeah I got the case without looking at reviews. I mitigated it by keeping stock fans but adding 3 up top will radiator and two extra in front inside case. Thermals dropped by 5 to 10c. The extra smaller fans really help suck air through the tiny mesh.

    • @TheTechTank
      @TheTechTank  2 роки тому +1

      The small ones definitely have a lot more static pressure than the big ones, so I don't doubt that helped a lot. Really wish MSI made a dual mesh kind of front panel for it.

    I just got this case to replace a crappy one I had to jury rig to fit the power supply. Ironically…. I had to remove the first bay of SSD drive slots to fit the power supply in this new case lol. And, being dumb, I had to buy a USB hub because my mobo only has one USB 3.0 slot. I feel less enthused watching your video… and I have a rear mounted CPU cooler as opposed to a top one… could you tell me at least how the airflow should be? Traditionally I figure hot air should vent through the top but by default the top fans are backwards for this. Should my airflow not be from front to rear and vent out the top as well?

    • @JDRhoads09
      @JDRhoads09 2 роки тому

      Edit: I just noticed the dumb asshole that designed this case doesn’t have airflow on the top either. What kind of jerk designs a case with completely blocked front AND top fans…. Sigh

    • @TheTechTank
      @TheTechTank  2 роки тому +1

      Luckily those drive cages are removable, lol. And I had the same issue on my previous motherboard, so I just had two dead USB ports. It sucked.
      Back when I did this video I actually experimented with the fan configuration, especially with the top two big fans as intake and exhaust, and I don't think there was much of a temperature difference either way. Your configuration sounds like it's about as good as it's going to get. You can try to mount the CPU cooler's radiator in the front to see if that improves temps, but I don't think it'll make much of a difference.
      It's summer here now and super hot, so I recently removed the glass part of the front panel (the top part is also removable) to help airflow, and that obviously made a huge difference. It just doesn't look as good, unfortunately.

    That thing is a beast! It totally reminds me of my first high end gaming pc build. I used the cooler master haf x with the asus rog crosshair formula with the amd phenom x6 black edition 16gb ram, 80gb ssd, I can’t remember the exact gpu but it was a sapphire hd Radeon blower card. Considering how old it is now it was a beast back then. It ran so cool. Even overclocked if I remember correctly it was around 65-70 degrees max. That case had two 200mm fans tho and it was pretty much all mesh. I also had a ultra brand peltier cpu cooler. It sucked GIGAWATTS but I miss how big it was and how quite it was.
