Not Country it's Bluegrass. There is a difference. Ky. Hillbilly here. Heard Bluegrass winding down the hollar drifting through the tree's, skipping over the creek many times. Bluegrass came from the hills and mountains of Ky. Scotts, English, Irish sound incorporated the banjo from the South with a mournful solitairy sound. The hardships of the hills is what makes it personal to those who get it. ✌️☯️🎶

White guy blues is what I say. Seriously though, if they didn't say yall and weren't white, it'd be blues. Lots of country and bluegrass can be crossed over as blues, no problem. Just depends on perspective.

KY bluegrass has a lot of overlap with country. Carolina bluegrass however is fast and fun. Not as country adjacent.

Mainly because “country music radio” focuses more on what’s popular, hence why chris went solo.

Steeldrivers are relatively well known and did well for themselves in a real successful way. Chris has a really special voice that is one of a kind and he made some good choices with his career.

I live a couple of miles from the Mississippi River and go over to Natchez quite a bit. Nothing like driving up and down those hills and roads where History was made. I was at a bar that was playing a bunch of crap modern country pop on Pandora where amongst the sad, pathetic sound of so called country singers trying to be rappers, this gem arose from the sewage. How it got there I don't know, but that 6 minutes and 14 seconds almost completely makes up for the 2 hours of that other shit.

I probably don't live too far from you---live south of Ocala----like to go on the Ocklawaha River---the wild unfucked up parts of it that still remain---we are fast losing what is left of "old Florida." I'd help stoke that fire and pretty soon----can bring some Florida made "shine" to the party.....play this song and some other kick ass music----like Ray Wylie Hubbard's "South of the River!!" A true kick ass song for sure--no lame assed "pop goes the country" bullshit that they play on the commercial country radio stations----Saw RWH last fall at the St. Augustine Ampitheater---he did a kick ass show! To those who say that they are Mississippi River Rats--I am an Ohio River, river rat----I first went on that river before I could walk and boated it on and off for years----till just a few years ago----but I am not done with that river and the rest of the rivers connected with it and the Mighty Mississip….even though for now----the St. Johns and the Ock are "my rivers" being back down here in Florida again....I was on the seas for pretty much four years back when I was in the Coast Guard-----but I always found myself missing rivers---to me----something special about them. The ocean is pretty---but rivers---something special about them that I just cannot describe....

I posted this comment on another song by the SteelDrivers but it applies even more so on this song... "Many bluegrass bands should stick to instrumentals, others should stick to their stills. SteelDrivers aren't in either of those classes. Quality instrumentals, strong vocals and lyrics that come from the roots of bluegrass. Great stuff all the way through." I better be careful though as I could post this on quite a few of their songs.

Check out some Cody Jinks, Whitey Morgan, Ward Davis, Sturgill Simpson, Whiskey Myers, or Sunny Sweeney. They are all youngish but very talented traditional style country music artists.
