    I'll never forget my first and only time seeing a mother & calf we were out catching crab & rockcod eight years ago at first we only saw a gigantic unrecognizable fin sticking up out of the water it was a reddish color I was VERY nervous not knowing yet that it was a mother humpback whale cleaning barnacles off on the rocky bottom shortly later we both noticed her calf was waiting its turn to roll around and get rid of some barnacles too ,we moved the boat to a safe distance for about 20 min then left the area to go fishing. A couple years later a five to six hundred pound Mola Mola (sunfish) kept swimming underneath and around our boat I'll never ever forget the excitement I felt that day

    Thank you so much for posting this. I find whales endlessly fascinating. It's amazing to think that they evolved from a wee animal living on the shore of the Tethys to become the largest, yet some of the gentlest of sea creatures. The songs of the humpbacks are beautiful, yet haunting. And I found the story of the mother whale and her humpback to be utterly charming.
    I am so happy that most nations have agreed to hunt whales. I find the "friendly whale" phenomenon to be wonderful and kind of poignant. Even after our having hunted them to the verge of destruction, they will come up to whale-watching boats and, so far as I'm aware, no whale-watcher has ever been injured/killed. It's as if they whales of the "friendly whale" phenomenon are willing to let bygones be bygones. Humans could take a lesson from that kind of forgiveness (I include myself because I can really hold a grudge--I may have some Hatfield or McCoy in me. It's not impossible since my biological parents were from that general area, but who knows, eh?

    Just wondering Why do only mainly humpbacks whales breach the water and body slam or belly flop themselves back in the water or keep slapping their fluke and flippers against the surface of the water cause i dont realise all the other species of whales do it much but to only come up for air and don't jump/breach right out of the water.
    Would it be because they are trying to clean themselves from all that shells, barnicles and parasites that grow all over their bodies that give them a big ich or making them really uncomfortable and theres no cleaning fish station anywhere to be found so the only way is to bellyflop/body slam themselves with the still hard water at the surface ???

    I'd be interested to know if the water was warmer because of the molten rock ? Or does it just cool down instantly ?

    • @alexv3357
      @alexv3357 6 років тому +1

      Water takes so much energy to warm up that the tiny amount of lava pouring into it from volcanoes like Kilauea makes little difference on the scale of whole bays or islands or seas.

      It would be extremely hot at that boiling anything in the water would die. It also is so hot it’s able to float on top of the water and stay on fire because of it thick molten consistente. It’s absolutely amazing to see in person and I also very dangerous.

    • @kallisledge6861
      @kallisledge6861 4 роки тому

      Also with the first response is correct the lava would not effect a whole bay just in the area it surrounds

    The baby whale in the beginning of the video does what it's mom does, until she jumps completely out of the ocean except for her tail. Then baby's like, "Oh HELL no!"

    Baby whale learning from mother is adorbs. Whales are the simplest most cost effective way to fight climate change. www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/fandd/2019/12/natures-solution-to-climate-change-chami.htm
    So many beautiful intelligent cetacean species in vid. The large whale bulls just make aggressive displays, they rarely damage each other.
