I don't even give a damn about walruses, but watching them plummet from those cliffs where they ordinarily shouldn't even be anywhere near and down to their death was awful. Wild animals dying cruelly is nothing new, I know - baby turtles snatched by crabs and birds, orca pods torturously ramming seals repeatedly - but those walrus falling to either grievous wounds and/or to their death somehow takes it to a different level, especially because of just how... *unnecessary* it is.

    • @mrreyes5004

I feel like that's the point they were making there. On one hand, we immediately empathize with the pup purely because it's a defenseless baby... however, the bear isn't killing because it likes to, but simply because it needs to eat, too. Very rarely are there any true "heroes" or "villains" in nature, simply creatures doing what they must to survive according to their instincts. Cultures may view life and death as opposites, but there's one thing they inherently have in common:
*Neither life **_nor_** death are fair.* Not to the young, the old, the strong or the weak. And in that, the grown bear and the seal pup were equals.

The scene with the walrus is so touching and at the same time an absolute work of art. The music, the camera work, the polar bear that is seemingly giving CPR to the bear, and the body of the walrus that is shown on the frontier of water as sir Attenborough is talking about the frontier of climate change. A must watch for everyone
EDIT: I hope it was clear that the CPR bit was just a poetic reference. Of course, I’m not suggesting that a polar bear can perform CPR or would even care in that way :)

I've saw that clip quite a while ago and BBC (EDIT: Netflix NOT the bbc) got hammered for saying it was due to climate change. I can't remember the detail for certain but am pretty sure it went along the lines of: David Attenborough filmed much the same scene about twenty years earlier (they showed both clips) when there was plenty of sea ice, stating another reason why they climbed the cliffs.
It's definitely a sad sight but pinning that one on 'climate change' was a pretty unforgivable cheap shot which - as far as I know - neither the BBC nor David Attenborough have retracted despite being asked to do so

This is my 4th time watching this series. Sir David Attenborough’s voice modulation is so so so very soothing to listen to and the music is awesome. The cinematography is beyond this world. This is definitely a treat for the 6 senses in our body. And then it makes us think long and hard about the waste we dump into this world like as if it belongs to us, the destruction we cause just by merely existing on earth. The excesses we use in mindfully. And finally our willingness to do anything for money just as if money is going to save us from dying in a storm.

We get to witness some of the most stunning places on earth, but it's heartbreaking to see how human activities can ruin the beauty of nature even in the places that are hard to reach. 😔 We need to take care of our planet because if we continue to harm it, animals and humans will suffer. 🌍 It's important to remember that we people are just a small part of this world, and we don't own it. Plants and animals have the right to live on it too. 🌱🐾 I felt sad for the polar bears and the walrus; they shouldn't have to suffer because of our actions. 😢 Thank you, Netflix, for creating this video and opening our eyes to these issues. 👏If we all work together then we can bring life back to earth.
