I bought the Speed IQ based on your first video (when your lawn was still frozen) and I have had 0.0 regrets and actually have the reverse opinion from you... this unit is FUN. The thing is it took me a few weeks to get used to it. If you treat it like a normal self-propel mower, then yes it is jerky, it's hard to navigate. What I noticed about your "mowing technique" is you are not letting the mower take control of the self-propel; instead you are treating it as though it is a conventional propel. You control the Speed IQ with your pace. If you stop, the mower will stop. If you pick up the pace, the mower will follow right along with you. Now, you have one of the bumpiest lawns that I have ever seen and maybe that creates a problem with maintaining a steady pace. I am still thankful for your earlier video that really prompted me to get this. I LOVE this mower... and I enjoy your videos. Thanks.
A month ago I was debating between buying the 2156 or 2167. Went with the 2156 and so glad I did. Sometimes tech meant to make things easier backfires.
@@TechMadeEzy I was looking into both and it does seem like a better buy because the battery alone is expensive! We have 1/4 acre lot but was worried that the battery might not be enough on the 2135
I have the speed iq and I’ve been mowing with it twice a week for about a two month. I definitely understand that jerkiness was annoying at first but it was a slight learning curve and once you get use to using it and understanding how hard to push and when to push it actually began to work extremely well. So all I can say it’s 100 percent worth it for the 1 in cut, a 12 amp battery and the turbo button. Just expect to have a learning curve for a couple mows then you’ll be fine.
I got one earlier this week and am in the middle of that learning curve. Having a smooth yard seems helpful as well. Hopefully I’ll be on the other side of that curve soon 😂
This is the video I have been waiting for. I really wanted to get the highest end model, but I really questioned the speed IQ. I wasn't going to buy anything until I saw the reviews first. You have pretty much answered every question I had and then some. Thank you for this video, 10 out of 10 😁
Glad to see a review once someone has actually used it. Nothing worse than the crowd that issues a review the second something is released (hi, I am the unboxing idiot who wants content) in the middle of winter to get hits on their channel. Happy to see that you actually provided real feedback after using the product.
I bought the LM2156SP POWER+ 21" Select Cut XP and I had a problem. The first 2 times I used it it was great. Then the blades wouldn’t run. I was getting a steady orange light. The battery was fine. I called EGO and they said that they would recall my mower and send me a new one. That was great, they really do stand behind their products. Watching your videos convinced me to purchase this lawnmower and I’m glad I did. Sorry to hear about Brooklyn , I’ll miss him. By the way, I grew up in Brooklyn.
@@TechMadeEzy Sorry, She. Until the age of 15 I lived in East New York- Hinsdale St. Then Midwood Ocean Ave. until I got married. Then Ocean Parkway then Marine Pk. Now I live in upstate NY Hyde Pk
Just bought this mower today. First impressions? Best mower I've ever used in my life. Speed IQ works amazing well for me, I had no issues with it right from the start. We just moved into a 1 acre property that hasn't been maintained in months, a mix of dormant and green lawn towering about 3' tall. It sliced through it like nothing, with 55% battery remaining after mowing 1/2 acre. I almost bought the 2156sp, glad I spent the little extra for this one. The display is nice too, but it's the speed IQ that I really like.
I was wandering around a local Lowes today and saw this mower is on sale till September. It is a really great price, cheaper than the other models you listed at $699. However, I think I am going to pass on it due to your video and seeing the operation of the self propelled function. Another reason I am skipping it is because all of the local stores are currently out of stock. I could drive 2 hours away and get one at another city, or I suppose have them deliver it, but I am just not that into it anymore. I think I am probably just going to wait till next year, or another sale on the 2156 model. Thank you for your honest opinion and videos on this mower.
thank you we were going to by it its the iq one not sure which but you broke me with the speed iq. I was already suspicious of it. I had been waiting to really get a honest good review i guess its so cheap right now because its the end of the season..It's like 799 i think for the top of the. I seen a guy with a kobalt which looked really good. Im just gonna get the one maybe next year you showed with the knob. I have the ego trimmer that feeds its own self its a treasure...Thanks for the great review and honesty. The prices of these electric tools are getting insane with the brands. Im a believer in get what you pay for in most things tools uhhh its a mixed bag. EGO is the top of the top line
Thanks, the first video I've seen that shows the issue with trying to change direction and the resultant jerkiness. Glad I "did my research" and bought the 2156.
Bought my 2167 a few weeks ago. My first EGO. Almost took it back today based on this video (and then thought about the hassle that would be 😂) But I mowed this afternoon and yes, there’s some frustrating parts of this mower, but I really do love it. There are times when I turn off the self propelled around tighter areas; just like I wished my Toro Personal Pace would’ve done easier. Biggest beef so far is if I don’t have Turbo on, I still get mohawking and some stragglers. And yes I took it to ace to get sharpened at the advice of this channel, but still didn’t change it much. Love this channel! Love the honesty! Keep up the great work!
I just bought the mower with Speed IQ. I do agree it is a little jerky. I do like everything else about the mower. I’m impressed with the power and battery life compared with a gas Toro mower. I can live with the Speed IQ and mower also. I like how the mower folds up and can stick in the corner of my garage. Cheers!
After using my GreenWorks I couldn’t go without a turbo button. They need to put that on more of their mowers. Specifically with what EGO charges for these things. And I had a feeling you weren’t gonna like the speed IQ
oh wow the whining of the self propel would drive me crazy. I don't even use it on my 2135, I just push it, its light and it helps me get some extra calorie burn.
Thank you for your detailed review. I purchased the LM2167sp from Lowes, and am returning today after 3 mows and will be getting the LM2156sp instead. I will miss the digital readout and lack of exposed wire, but I, too, experienced the same "jerkiness" that you did, even to the point that I thought the unit might be defective. Your review cemented my decision to return. I love the Ego ecosystem and have their newest PowerHead with 16" weedeater and Edger, as well as the 650 CFM Blower and Hedge Trimmer. Speed IQ is just not ready for prime time.
I hardly use self propelled due to its light weight. The turbo feature and digital display outweighs the learning curve for smart IQ drive. Least used feature on my original EGO mower.
Bought the 2167 because of your videos, despite previously reading very mixed feelings about the speed iq, so far it is working great for me! Couldn't be happier, especially with the deal I got it for. Well worth it.
Guess I'll keep my old 56 Ego. It does the job and is probably more than enough for my needs and I already have a ton of batteries for it. Maybe they'll improve the functionality with later iterations? Won't help anybody who already bought one obviously. Maybe after a year or 2 and some price drops i'll pick this up bare tool just for the other features which I do like. I still want to at least try this myself somehow but sucks to see it doesn't work as well as Toro Personal Pace system. Thanks for the video.
Im not kidding I bought the lower 2114SP from Ace and they delivered the 2167 SP to me 😂 i couldnt believe it and almost screamed. Paid for the $530 one and got the $1000 one and not complaining at all
This was exactly the video that I wanted to see. Thank you. I just purchased an Ego 2156SP-2. It came with two batteries. I have a bumpy lawn so the Speed IQ probably would not work very well for me. I mowed my lawn with the new mower, for the first time, yesterday. I like being able to set a constant speed. The upper speeds are way too fast for me. though. I love the 700-watt turbo charger. I can charge a battery while mowing with the other battery.
I got my greenworks pro and its super fun to mowe, plus its a steel deck, rear wheel drive and double battery compartment...Ego is nice, but more tech does not mean better mower....
I appreciate the fact that EGO is constantly innovating, but for the money I feel like my 2156 fits my needs. Thanks again AL for your thorough reviews.
Probably best suited for large yards but too small for a rider. Nice stuff, but not really necessary. A lot to get a little more. Can’t hate on the 12Ah batteries…they’re beasts. I have 10.
My one criticism of many of the mower reviews is that few reviewers mow with the grass bag. The Milwaukee is a fantastic mower, but the grass bag has several design flaws. I would not have purchased the Milwaukee had I known about the grass bag flaws. Now, I am looking for a better mower, but few reviewers have actually used the grass bag for several months to give an informed opinion.
I actually love the 2167. I feel it is a huge upgrade from the 2135. The mower feels much more substantial but is still easy to push if I choose not to use self propel. I love the gauge cluster and the ability to select the engine motor speed, turn self propel on or off, etc. There is a learning curve to Speed IQ but have learned to love it. The cut quality is noticeably improved over the 2135. There is less vibration in the mower. It is more isolated from bumps in the yard. The noise from the self propelled mechanism is less prominent thus less annoying. (Don’t like the sound of Ego’s self propelled system) Feels like I transitioned from a Toyota to a Lexus.
Thanks for the video. The turbo button was something that I wished my 2156 had. Milwaukee mower is now my alpha mower. Still have the EGO in the trailer as a backup.
I got the new Makita XGT 40v max 19-inch commercial lawn mower. Loved to see you do a comparison. In Australia, we get quad swing-back blades by default 😄. I use two 8ah 40v max (nominal 36v) for 16 ah's (never ran out of charge yet). Only need 1 battery to run but auto switches batteries when 1 dies. A lot more torque too. Cuts higher and lower. it's like the power of Milwaukee meets EGO efficiency with Makita's build quality/ergonomics. I still enjoy seeing what Ego has to offer and great unbiased reviews as usual 'TME'
I have been looking at Ego mowers and am going to purchase one this weekend. This video helped me to make up my mind. The Speed IQ is not ready for prime time so I'll get the 2156
I waited and waited for the IQ to be released I at the last minute purchased the select cut XP (LM2156 sp)and love it. By the way it does have 8 adjustments on the wheels.
Just picked up the Ego LM 2157SP from Lowe’s, I just noticed it has the the same wheels as the Ego 2167 SP which are much nicer looking. Also your videos are very helpful. Thanks
Hi Roger yup EGO actually changes what’s in the box as they move along it’s something I learned just recently so that’s awesome and that is really a solid model. I’m glad my videos helped stay in touch. Let me know how things go and I sure hope you subscribe.
Thank you for your honest review, Al. I bought the 2167 a month ago and have mowed four times. I absolutely hate the Speed IQ, however I absolutely love the 12 Ah battery, turbo speed and the gauge. I’ve learned to somewhat tame the Speed IQ by lightly holding the handle mostly from the side. For me, the advantages outweighed the very big negative. It’s unfortunate that Ego chose to put Speed IQ on what would have been a 5 star mower.
Hey I’ve been checking out several brands including the one my shop was selling GreenWorks commercial. I like the 82 volt but amp hours are low. For a commercial machine they haven’t stepped up to higher amp hour batteries or upgraded the self propelled system. The self propelled systems are weak point in all these machines. That’s the first thing that should be looked at then cutting blade when purchasing. Because these machines aren’t cheap
Nice review and excellent breakdown spec comparison. I'm looking at the EGO and Greenworks from Costco. The 2167 is a nice mower but that price delta is a pretty steep compared to the 2156 and even the 2135.
I was able to open one of these. It turns out the Speed IQ sensors are sitting in the green square area on each side to convert mechanical force/pressure to electric sensor (like a spring concept) Nothing in the handle. I think the angle of the user (or lawn) pressing against the handle creates this undesirable outcome of the Speed IQ
I just bought the LM2167SP Select Cut XP this week at Lowes on sale @ $699.99 using a Lowes 20% off coupon (MAX DISCOUNT OF $100) my final price was $599.99/ $636. w/tax. I sold the battery and the charger to a friend as I didn't need either of them for $575. , Now I have the newest EGO mower for a whopping total final cost of $61.00 . My wife now totally approves of my purchase. I'm still not thrilled about the Speed IQ feature vs my last EGO model that used the barrel adjuster and the handle paddles. Mower lurches forward too much sometimes and the loud sounds it makes while in auto self propel mode id annoying even when using earphones.. I wish they made the on/off button for speed control a-lot bigger, as it doesn't always respond to the push. But hey I can't complain too much for a total cost of $61.00 for the mower. :) I do love the phone holder.
Man I really enjoy your reviews. Last year I made the ego switch because of your reviews and I'm glad I did. I only have my mtd gas powered push mower with auto choke left. (Old shakey) When I need to replace. this ego mower I'll stick with the dial. I'm like you I'll like it better. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank You For The Honest Review👍 I Love EGO, But You Would Have To Have A Smooth Lawn, With No Bumps To Make It Work Properly🤔 I Wish That They Made The Same Thing In A Touch Drive Set Up. I'll Keep My Ego Touch Drive👍 Will Have To Pass On This For Now. Thank You Again For The Good Feedback⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great review, thanks! appreciate putting that comparison table together. 2150/2156 seems like the sweet spot (more torque, huh, huh, huh) without the machine trying to guess how fast I want to go.
Very thorough! Quite informative as always! And right on time! Bottom line ($1,000) one thousand dollars is ridiculously high for a push mower. I have several certificates and approximately (5) 5 years formal education in mechanician. I can fix anything. I just put my gas push mower back together. Forgive me for digressing. I do not like purchasing expensive gasoline; however, for that much money I can purchase a lot of gasoline! Watching you operate the self-propelled assisted me in determining I do not want self-propelled. First the speed unlike the one that is adjustable leaves too much to be desired. It sounds like the motor may be working against itself. When you stop to turn or back up the motor appears to be working against itself. The screaming whining electrical motor! My research indicates the Ego has the most amp battery for a push mower? Some of the added features notwithstanding they are expensive; however, I and many others may later think I would have paid the extra if they would have just simply left them off! Thanks for the video! Addendum: How many items, including automobiles after the warranty has expired, and now one is faced with replacing extremely expensive batteries they will look at the old piece of crap (lol) hypothetically)) and think 'I have been looking at the 2028 models, and well, 'ol buddy' you are now disposable! lol R O F L
For someone mechanically inclined I can understand sticking with gas, for me who sucks at mechanical work and maintenance the Ego has been a great change. For me it was my only concern and I've been using mine for 6 years now with only changing blades and refilling trimmer line in my trimmer head. So there's definitely pro's and cons to the battery lineup. If I was more mechanically inclined I'd probably still be on gas and I suspect anyone who is good at that will stick with it until these get even better and battery prices hopefulyl come down.
I appreciate your honesty. Something lacking in the marketing world today. I love EGO products - love the batteries (except how $$$) - gas engines and I never have gotten along. There are many features on this new mower that are so great. Love the way EGO innovates & I feel sure they will get this mower just right in the future. I just hope they don't forget their fans who can't afford a thousand-dollar push mower - maybe I'm the only one -?
Mary thank you so very much. You’re correct they definitely need to keep some of the prices down. They did come out with some models to do that. I don’t know if you saw our video in the LM2114sp here is a link if that helps ua-cam.com/video/yaWn2pghCBE/v-deo.html
THANK YOU for all your work on rhese REVIEWS. I have a suggestion no one has done. When a consumer goes on Lowes website, there are a dozen Ego's for sale that to the customer all look alike, plus its a nightmare to understand the differences of them. What if you went on Lowes site and made a video deciphering in a chart in video what each Ego model currently available at Lowes has to offer the customer as far as torque, battery, price , self propelled? Maybe each spring do this. I know its a pain but i know this would help so many people from the confusion that is Ego. I wish Ego would stop making every model mower look like the last in color and so on. Oh, and tell us which models have Turbo buttons lol..please
Glad I stuck with my decision purchasing the 2156SP and loving it so far. Having back surgery, the speed setting that allows me to move at my pace has been great however seeing how fast and jerky the 67 is..plus the cost and heavier? I would have taken it back. Thanks for the honesty. It’s a great concept but not ready. Wish the new display was on the 2156 as that would have taken it over the top!
The review I've been waiting on. I was getting worried with it being this late in the southern growing season when no reviews were coming out for Speed IQ. It's been noticeably silent on that front which made me think maybe the usual reviewers who maybe have some sponsorship were having issues and hence didn't release a review rather than say it's great when it's not. My fear was I'd spend more time fighting the Speed IQ than using it and it seems like that's probably reality. Wish I could find the 2156-2 in stock somewhere. Comes with 2 10AH batteries. Think I'll probably just have to go with the stock 2156 and single 10AH battery though. Same cutting torque but with older version self propel. I would have loved the fuel gauge, phone mount, and wires being inside the frame, but when I think that I'll be using this mower probably a good 6-8 years minimum I don't want to be fighting self propel, and I do have some need to use it in certain areas so just leaving it off wouldn't be a great solution. Thanks for the detailed review.
Thanks for the honest review with actual criticisms. One suggestion - I think it’d be helpful in comparisons to also include the tool only (no battery) price for those of us already in the Ego ecosystem. Hearing some of the drawbacks of the new self-propel, I’m very happy I grabbed a 2150 on sale for $450!
I don't even need self propel. They should just make the blade tip speed higher and better design the deck so it cuts better. I use a 9 year old EGO 20" push commercially. Just gotta keep the blade sharp and don't let grass get overgrown. The mower weighs like 60 pounds, it doesn't need to have self propel. Just focus on advancing the cut quality. And I also own a select cut model ego with 2 blades and self propel but the power button isn't working right now. But it doesn't really cut that much better than the old one. It cuts thicker stuff better. I never use the self propel on that or my 25" greenworks commercial to conserve battery.
Thanks for the video. May be in the minority but I have the 2156 and an older 2102 and prefer the drive setup on the 2102. Seems like the harder they try to make it different the more weird it gets.
I have had the Speed IQ mower for about 9 months. Overall, I like it very well, but the jerkiness issue is real. I have bad knees and some incline in my year, so the verible speed proultion is very imporetant to me. I cannot maintain a uniform walking speed. I previously had two Toro Personal Pace mowers, and the eGo works much better (except for the jerkiness). I have kept in touch with eGo, hoping they could come up with a fix for this problem. Today, I received the final answer. eGo has discontinued teh iSpeed mower. I am disappointed, but will continue using it as logn as I can. It still worked better than the Toro Personal Pace.
Different users may have different opinions. This review made me seriously question the potential value of Speed IQ. However, I noted in the video that the lawn being mowed was EXTREMELY ROUGH, which probably made constant and consistent contact with the speed IQ sensor virtually impossible and thus probably would negatively impact Speed IQ performance. Further, other reviews I have read about Speed IQ were positive. As Lowes has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, I decided to take a chance and go with Speed IQ. So glad I did. It worked very well for me. Not quite the same as my old Toro Personal Pace, but very well and in most cases better (more consistent). I found the electric drive motor to be unintrusive. If I wasn't thanking about it, I wouldn't even notice it. I do not know how it works, but it works well in my opinion.
Gary thank you for sharing your opinion that's what this channel is all about. Also note my mode my front lawn multiple times and my front lawn is a pretty smooth straight on. Not a believer in speed IQ at this time but others might be fine with it.
lol that RC car sound is crazy i will admit your mowing pattern needs work; you shouldn’t go directly up against the fence line and keep pushing in and out to disengage the propel when i saw you just pivot in one smooth 180 degree motion it was not an issue but this was exaggerated when mowing up against an obstacle appreciate the effort on tech through the years
I experienced the jerky motion of the IQ EGO , called the company and asked them about that …..also had the mower switch from off to auto on the self-propelled and the company said you should purchase the he next model down! Seriously!
On my hydrostatic Hondas I frequently adjust the speed while I mow, because I always seem to have janky lawns that can only sometimes take faster speeds, until they can’t and I gotta slow down so that it doesn’t die. Yes, I am aware that is not a mower issue :) From what I understand of Speed IQ, not knowing when that speed will change sounds a bit like being a car passenger not knowing about speed changes “ahead of time,” in the way the driver would. In other words, it’s automatic?
Need some help - how to decide at Lowe’s between a $700 select cut select cut iq w 12ah batter or power + with 6ah. For $449. Landscapers want $500 monthly to cut lawn. Trying to save some dollars. Any advice on this? Live in NC.
Just ordered the 2156 a couple days ago so this video is pretty timely. I was debating waiting for the 67 to come in stock at my Lowe's but now I'm glad I just went with the 2156.
Question about turbo mode. From what I understand the 56 and 67 have the same 1200w 8.3 ft lb motor. If the 56 is running at 8.3 ft lbs all the time does this mean the 67 runs at lower ft lbs in normal and turbo brings it up to 8.3 ft lbs or do they clock the motor so it produces more than 8.3 ft lbs in turbo. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.
The 56 to my knowledge will adjust as it needs to. The 67 has the option to be on turbo at all times using the on screen feature but will definitely use more battery to do this.
I never tried this and it seems interesting and I would give it a shot. I did read some comments on Reddit from users who loved it and others who hated the speed IQ.self propelled. Some users ending up exchanging it for the last EGO model with the knob self-propel . I wish EGO had a mower like this with a similar display, but with a different self propel and a turbo button that would work without having to turn the mower off.
I currently own the LM2156sp and am absolutely very pleased with it. 10.0 amp hour battery is more than enough for my needs. The touch drive system is nice and conveniently placed so when I need it it's there, and when I don't, it doesn't jerk me around but assists me when I ask it to do so. The visible wire is not a deal breaker, and having a simplified fold-away leveler is also not a deal breaker for me. The Turbo option on the Speed IQ is unimportant because mine ramps up to a higher RPM when it detects thicker grass... So, I find the Speed IQ to be a waste of money. Not to mention the additional blades you can throw onto the LM2156sp makes it versatile.
Great video. Same experience. The speed IQ is not enjoyable. A LM2156/50 after Dec. 2021 does have the 8 positions and holes for the phone holder. The LM2156/50 with the LCD display would be the perfect model.
Wow Jay it’s amazing how quick they start making adjustments to models after launch. Thanks for the heads up in the 8 settings and the holes for the phone holder
@@TechMadeEzy I would say before they officially launched this model since this was already incorporated in the other model after Dec 2021. 1 year before the LM2167 model came out.
The speed iq looks annoying. The turbo speed and bigger motor than the old ego i have looks nice. The high lift and turbo button i think would be best to lift up the stragglers and give the best cut. If i would get the 67 i would just use turbo all the time. Plus the 12ah battery would be nice in my 2 stage snowblower instead of the 2 7.5 ah.
Any testing or specs provided on how fast the speed IQ can go. Previous models have a limit at 3.1mph. Any chance it was increased to match toro's personal pace system clocked at 4.5mph? Reason is in the later months of the summer when the grass growth slows down and it's dryer I do cut much faster and I really find the EGO too slow. Thx
@@TechMadeEzy I have a gas toro super recycler red Deck. The newer super recycler version does not seem as well built. ? Tough decision if my next Toro super recycler will be gas or battery? I am leaning on staying with gas powered. Your thoughts? Just seems gas powered deck is better made? Thanks much appreciated
Thank you very much for your honest review and opinion. I appreciate it! It seems that the new Speed IQ on the LM2167SP is very jerky and not very easy to use and/or mow. I am in the market for a new mower and now thinking about either the Ego LM2157SP or the Milwaukee M18. I do like the dual blades / select cut with the Ego mower. I want a higher torque mower. I want a mower that provides the best cut. Which would you recommend - Ego LM2157SP or Milwaukee M18? Thanks again for your help and advice!
I decided to go with the LM2157SP and love it. So far, so good. There was plenty of power and ample battery life with the 10amp battery. I appreciate your assistance and honest reviews. I saw that Ryobi has a 80v 2 dual blades 30" self-propelled mower coming out. I hope that you will review this mower sometime in the future. Roybi is very proud of this new mower as it cost at $2K.
Deciding between these 2 models. Is the IQ drive that bad? I think the added features of 12 AH battery, turbo mode, screen, no wire and easy handle are well worth the extra $150. Probably worth it on just the battery alone. Still conflicted. Please help. I have a corner lot, so long back and forth passes.
@TechMadeEzy I have another idea with the non select blade mowers. How about comparing the single blade vs adding an additional blades like the high lift blade. Compare the cut quality and the battery life. If adding an additional blades similar to the Select Cut is beneficial.
was wondering if I could get away with a lawn mower with “9 wheels but after watching you review, I’d say no. I cut grass commercially in the summer time and am looking for a good lawn mower and not some little toy, made in China piece of junk. Light weight under 85 pounds, good blade speed, larger enough back wheels that can handle bumps with out being clumsy, good twin lever controls that are leaner so I don’t have to take hands off clutch control to adjust some phony speed control dial, and I could care less about all your little display screens. Last of all, not having to mortgage the house for buying something that’s built right for a change. Best I could come up with was the Husqurvina rear wheel with Honda motor, and Honda GVC with 170 motor, but rear wheels are to small and Husqurvina, little too slow walking pace. Still gets the job done though in good time, but isn’t made any more. Think you can do the job China?
Thanks.
Thanks for sharing your experience
None of the new 2024 EGO models have Speed IQ. Even they recognized it was a terrible gimmick.
That's what I figured. My ultimate set up would be the predecessor(56) with turbo and 12Ah battery
A month ago I was debating between buying the 2156 or 2167. Went with the 2156 and so glad I did. Sometimes tech meant to make things easier backfires.
I did the same
Same here as well just about a month ago and so glad I stayed with my gut feeling
Extremely helpful. Looking for a self propelled as a new lawn mower user and was so confused. This helped more than the Ego website! Thank you!
Thanks I’m glad
Check out the LM2156sp or LM2135sp
@@TechMadeEzy Thank you so much!!! Will pick up one of those 2!
@Love4puppies lm2156sp would be preferred

@@TechMadeEzy I was looking into both and it does seem like a better buy because the battery alone is expensive! We have 1/4 acre lot but was worried that the battery might not be enough on the 2135
@@Love4puppies I just purchased a like new used one for $400 with 12amp battery and turbo charger. Couldn’t pass it up.
Jon Thanks for sharing your experience
I got one earlier this week and am in the middle of that learning curve. Having a smooth yard seems helpful as well. Hopefully I’ll be on the other side of that curve soon 😂
Good luck, let me know how it goes
@chodiefoster7161 now you do
I’m 2 mows in and ready to throw it into the creek behind my house
This is the video I have been waiting for. I really wanted to get the highest end model, but I really questioned the speed IQ. I wasn't going to buy anything until I saw the reviews first.
You have pretty much answered every question I had and then some. Thank you for this video, 10 out of 10 😁
I will say this if you don’t use self propel, you’re gonna love the mower. Thanks for your comment. And thanks for watching. I appreciate that.
Glad to see a review once someone has actually used it. Nothing worse than the crowd that issues a review the second something is released (hi, I am the unboxing idiot who wants content) in the middle of winter to get hits on their channel. Happy to see that you actually provided real feedback after using the product.
I bought the LM2156SP
POWER+ 21" Select Cut XP and I had a problem.
Thanks for your comment she was a family member what part of Brooklyn did you grow up
@@TechMadeEzy Sorry, She. Until the age of 15 I lived in East New York- Hinsdale St. Then Midwood Ocean Ave. until I got married. Then Ocean Parkway then Marine Pk. Now I live in upstate NY Hyde Pk
I was very close to east flatbush 👍🏼
Just bought this mower today. First impressions? Best mower I've ever used in my life. Speed IQ works amazing well for me, I had no issues with it right from the start. We just moved into a 1 acre property that hasn't been maintained in months, a mix of dormant and green lawn towering about 3' tall. It sliced through it like nothing, with 55% battery remaining after mowing 1/2 acre. I almost bought the 2156sp, glad I spent the little extra for this one. The display is nice too, but it's the speed IQ that I really like.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
I was wandering around a local Lowes today and saw this mower is on sale till September. It is a really great price, cheaper than the other models you listed at $699. However, I think I am going to pass on it due to your video and seeing the operation of the self propelled function. Another reason I am skipping it is because all of the local stores are currently out of stock. I could drive 2 hours away and get one at another city, or I suppose have them deliver it, but I am just not that into it anymore. I think I am probably just going to wait till next year, or another sale on the 2156 model. Thank you for your honest opinion and videos on this mower.
Thank you for this honest review. We just bought an EGO mower and I feel more confident in the purchase now
Thank you and good luck stay in touch let me know how it goes
Gotta level that lawn alil haha more craters then the moon
Thanks for this! The 2157 arrives today and now I don't regret not getting the 2167. 🙏🏿
Thanks, you meant the LM1156sp of course
thank you we were going to by it its the iq one not sure which but you broke me with the speed iq.
Thanks! For the review! I got the 2135 based on this, i saved a couple of bucks to invest in another battery
Thanks Tony much appreciated
Thanks, the first video I've seen that shows the issue with trying to change direction and the resultant jerkiness. Glad I "did my research" and bought the 2156.
Glad it helped Peter thanks for watching 👍🏼
Thanks Charlie wish you good luck
I just bought the mower with Speed IQ. I do agree it is a little jerky. I do like everything else about the mower. I’m impressed with the power and battery life compared with a gas Toro mower. I can live with the Speed IQ and mower also. I like how the mower folds up and can stick in the corner of my garage. Cheers!
Definitely enjoy it, many perks for sure
After using my GreenWorks I couldn’t go without a turbo button. They need to put that on more of their mowers. Specifically with what EGO charges for these things. And I had a feeling you weren’t gonna like the speed IQ
I almost returned mine after the first mow. 3 mows later I am glad I didn't. It takes some getting used to but once you figure it out, it is great!
Good to hear thanks Chris
Great to hear.....just like going from gas to electric it's different 😊
oh wow the whining of the self propel would drive me crazy.
Glad it helped, yeah I was soo excited myself and like I said love the display, turbo, handle upgrades. Best of luck Eric
@joeshobbies8755 Great to see your comment on here! Agreed.
Thanks Joe
How much did you get it for if you don’t mind me asking ?
@Name users i was able to get 30% in rewards through capitalone shopping and my credit card gave me a $300 credit as well.
Picked up a floor model 2130 from Lowes for $225. No Battery. Great video's Thanks!
Thanks
$225 nice!
Glad the video helped AJ, enjoy your new mower 👍🏼
Another phenomenal video Al, i always enjoy detail that goes into each and every single video
Thanks Alex 👍🏼
I got my greenworks pro and its super fun to mowe, plus its a steel deck, rear wheel drive and double battery compartment...Ego is nice, but more tech does not mean better mower....
Cool GreenWorks makes some nice products 👍🏼
I went with the 2156sp over the 2167sp. The 2156sp works great for my needs.
I appreciate the fact that EGO is constantly innovating, but for the money I feel like my 2156 fits my needs. Thanks again AL for your thorough reviews.
What about the 2156 do you prefer over the 2167? I’m in the market for an electric mower now
@dragonfisher3332 are you cheating 😎 watching our video helps our channel and yes I prefer the 2156
Great comparison of mowers and relevant to things that matter to me. Thanks.
Thank you I’m glad I could help
Probably best suited for large yards but too small for a rider. Nice stuff, but not really necessary. A lot to get a little more. Can’t hate on the 12Ah batteries…they’re beasts. I have 10.
My one criticism of many of the mower reviews is that few reviewers mow with the grass bag. The Milwaukee is a fantastic mower, but the grass bag has several design flaws. I would not have purchased the Milwaukee had I known about the grass bag flaws. Now, I am looking for a better mower, but few reviewers have actually used the grass bag for several months to give an informed opinion.
I mulch 99% of the time, feeding the lawn. I might bag if I have to cut more than I’d like to pick up clipping piles but that is rare.
Wow so you have both? Interesting thanks for sharing Robert
@@TechMadeEzy hello
👋🏼
Thank you
I have been looking at Ego mowers and am going to purchase one this weekend. This video helped me to make up my mind. The Speed IQ is not ready for prime time so I'll get the 2156
Glad our video helped 👍🏼
Thanks, just what I suspected. I like to be in control. Getting the 2156sp on monday. GREAT VIDEO and presentation.
Glad it helped thanks for watching
I waited and waited for the IQ to be released I at the last minute purchased the select cut XP (LM2156 sp)and love it. By the way it does have 8 adjustments on the wheels.
Yeah it looks like they changed that after launching some with 7, very confusing but I’m glad to know. Thank you
Just got the 2156 also. The refreshed model has the 8 height adjustments, a phone holder and the wider tires like the 2067.
I have the 2135sp model. I haven't felt i needed anything newer. It just does the job.
It’s a nice one
Just picked up the Ego LM 2157SP from Lowe’s, I just noticed it has the the same wheels as the Ego 2167 SP which are much nicer looking. Also your videos are very helpful. Thanks
Hi Roger yup EGO actually changes what’s in the box as they move along it’s something I learned just recently so that’s awesome and that is really a solid model. I’m glad my videos helped stay in touch. Let me know how things go and I sure hope you subscribe.
2157 am I missing something, is it not 2156 model?
@jenniferbmendezful that's correct
Just made me even more sure about to purchase the 2135 so thank you
Glad I could help
Thank you for your honest review, Al. I bought the 2167 a month ago and have mowed four times. I absolutely hate the Speed IQ, however I absolutely love the 12 Ah battery, turbo speed and the gauge. I’ve learned to somewhat tame the Speed IQ by lightly holding the handle mostly from the side. For me, the advantages outweighed the very big negative. It’s unfortunate that Ego chose to put Speed IQ on what would have been a 5 star mower.
Thanks Mark
I also bought the 2167, and I agreed on the IQ. I don't like it. Everything else is good.
turn it off and enjoy.
@@BronzeLincolns81how do you turn it off?
Hey I’ve been checking out several brands including the one my shop was selling GreenWorks commercial. I like the 82 volt but amp hours are low. For a commercial machine they haven’t stepped up to higher amp hour batteries or upgraded the self propelled system. The self propelled systems are weak point in all these machines. That’s the first thing that should be looked at then cutting blade when purchasing. Because these machines aren’t cheap
Yes battery mowers are expensive, look at the line up and make sure the battery is compatible with multiple tools and the tools are available.
Nice review and excellent breakdown spec comparison. I'm looking at the EGO and Greenworks from Costco. The 2167 is a nice mower but that price delta is a pretty steep compared to the 2156 and even the 2135.
I love my 2167, it’s just something to get use to. People saying it’s too jerky are just being too ham-handed. Not the product’s fault.
Thanks for sharing
Wider unit 🙏🏻
:) I do love the phone holder.
you nailed it he dont use it but I thought hell yes I need the phone holder..I have a big yard 2 gsds i need some sound lol
Thanks that means a lot to me 🔥
Thank You For The Honest Review👍 I Love EGO, But You Would Have To Have A Smooth Lawn, With No Bumps To Make It Work Properly🤔 I Wish That They Made The Same Thing In A Touch Drive Set Up. I'll Keep My Ego Touch Drive👍 Will Have To Pass On This For Now. Thank You Again For The Good Feedback⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow thanks Brian
So I just bought a LM2156SP model and it came with a phone holder as well as 8 cutting level heights from 1 inch to 4 inches.
Yes, they made changes months after launching the mower, they did some changes also to the Lm2135sp. I bought these when they 1st launched.
Hey Tech, thanks for another informative video. I really appreciate your honesty when it comes to the speed IQ. Keep the videos coming. 👍🏻👍🏻
Lowe's has this mower on sale for $699 with 12ah battery and charger. Cheaper that any other mower kit right now.
Might be trying to move them out
Great deal if you won’t use self propel much. Battery alone is over $500 I believe
FYI the 2167 is on sale for $799 with battery and charger at Lowes and Ace, the sale ends soon.
I’m glad Ego finally refunded my money on the 2167. You’re right about the self propel issues.
What did you end up getting?
@@TechMadeEzy nothing yet. Had an older gas mower but may give Ego another shot with the model you suggested.
Good luck
Thanks for the feedback and $450 was a good deal! enjoy
Is the power are almost the same?
Yes same
I have had the Speed IQ mower for about 9 months.
Thanks for sharing but yes like you said it is discontinued and their new models no longer include the feature
Notice that making right turns was hard to do and too jerky I will keep last years model and if they just sold it BARE TOOL for $500 I might buy it
I want the 2167 with the 2156's self propelled action! Matter in fact, I'm going to stick with my Honda until EGO provides this!
I hear ya
lol that RC car sound is crazy
i will admit your mowing pattern needs work; you shouldn’t go directly up against the fence line and keep pushing in and out to disengage the propel
when i saw you just pivot in one smooth 180 degree motion it was not an issue but this was exaggerated when mowing up against an obstacle
appreciate the effort on tech through the years
Right now the lm2165 is on sale at lowes for $50 ($799) less than the lm2156 ($850). For 50 less I get 12amp/hr versus 10amp/hr. That's a no Brainer.
I experienced the jerky motion of the IQ EGO , called the company and asked them about that …..also had the mower switch from off to auto on the self-propelled and the company said you should purchase the he next model down!
Seriously!
wow
Got the new model speed IQ for $699 at Lowe’s!
Great deal 👍🏼
On my hydrostatic Hondas I frequently adjust the speed while I mow, because I always seem to have janky lawns that can only sometimes take faster speeds, until they can’t and I gotta slow down so that it doesn’t die. Yes, I am aware that is not a mower issue :)
From what I understand of Speed IQ, not knowing when that speed will change sounds a bit like being a car passenger not knowing about speed changes “ahead of time,” in the way the driver would. In other words, it’s automatic?
Need some help - how to decide at Lowe’s between a $700 select cut select cut iq w 12ah batter or power + with 6ah. For $449. Landscapers want $500 monthly to cut lawn. Trying to save some dollars. Any advice on this? Live in NC.
Look for a Lm2135sp or LM2156sp
Just ordered the 2156 a couple days ago so this video is pretty timely. I was debating waiting for the 67 to come in stock at my Lowe's but now I'm glad I just went with the 2156.
Enjoy Aaron
Is there any info on how much torque or rpm the turbo button adds? Congrats on finally joining the Tesla club. I will never go back to a gas vehicle.
Thanks!
No I haven’t seen anything official on max RPM
These things need to be software/firmware upgradable!
So the all the other Ego models do not have a TURBO BUTTON ?
Even my Greenworks from 4 years ago has a Turbo button
You keep talking about the second, older model, as the 2157. Don't you mean 2156, short for LM2156SP?
The sun got to me 👍🏼
Great video.
Quick question, should I buy the 2150, 2156 or the 2167 for a lawn care business? I’m starting one this summer and I don’t know which one to get
Wait until the new models come out see this video for some info

Great comparison....Here in Europe the 2135 kit is only available and costs 1150 euro.....😔😔😔
But you have beautiful European woman 😎
@@TechMadeEzy That's true,but they don't like to mow the grass 😋
🤣
Any testing or specs provided on how fast the speed IQ can go. Previous models have a limit at 3.1mph. Any chance it was increased to match toro's personal pace system clocked at 4.5mph? Reason is in the later months of the summer when the grass growth slows down and it's dryer I do cut much faster and I really find the EGO too slow. Thx
Haven’t seen any specs on self propel speed
Great video
Thank you glad it helped
Any idea comparing this ego IQ vs toro super recycler 60 volt mower? Thanks
Toro personal pace is smoother
@@TechMadeEzy I have a gas toro super recycler red Deck. The newer super recycler version does not seem as well built. ? Tough decision if my next Toro super recycler will be gas or battery? I am leaning on staying with gas powered. Your thoughts? Just seems gas powered deck is better made? Thanks much appreciated
I wish I could help, maybe go with the battery Toro and try it ?
2156 seems like the best one for me, i want more torque than the 35 has
And a 10ah battery if you buy the kit 💪🏼
Thank you very much for your honest review and opinion. I appreciate it! It seems that the new Speed IQ on the LM2167SP is very jerky and not very easy to use and/or mow. I am in the market for a new mower and now thinking about either the Ego LM2157SP or the Milwaukee M18. I do like the dual blades / select cut with the Ego mower. I want a higher torque mower. I want a mower that provides the best cut. Which would you recommend - Ego LM2157SP or Milwaukee M18? Thanks again for your help and advice!
They’re both good mowers I don’t know if you saw my head to head I’ll give you a link. Maybe it’ll help you. ua-cam.com/video/SetbQhjLyWE/v-deo.html
@@TechMadeEzy Thank you! I will check it out! I appreciate your help!
$2k that’s insane
Deciding between these 2 models. Is the IQ drive that bad? I think the added features of 12 AH battery, turbo mode, screen, no wire and easy handle are well worth the extra $150. Probably worth it on just the battery alone. Still conflicted. Please help. I have a corner lot, so long back and forth passes.
I wouldn’t have made this video if I was a big fan of speed IQ. I’d go with the lm2156sp
@@TechMadeEzy Thanks for your opinion. Much appreciated! 👍
If I don't need self propel, which mower you recommend?
Lm2135 definitely not the lm2135sp that has self propel
Can you do a video on non select cut mowers?
thanks for the idea
@TechMadeEzy I have another idea with the non select blade mowers. How about comparing the single blade vs adding an additional blades like the high lift blade. Compare the cut quality and the battery life. If adding an additional blades similar to the Select Cut is beneficial.
The height adjustment is wrong because the blade sits up 0.5inch from bottom of the deck.
After watching this I still think Toro Personal Pace is much better !
Do you plan on reviewing the 60 volt mower from CAT?
Good idea
was wondering if I could get away with a lawn mower with “9 wheels but after watching you review, I’d say no.
The mower weight you gave is that with or without the battery ?
That’s without batteries 🔋
