- Havana walking tour of the Cuba they don't want you to see in 2024.
Top Cuba Travel Tips:
1) Can U.S. Citizens travel to Cuba? Yes.
While flying to Cuba for tourist activities remains prohibited by statute (hence the title of this video), there are 13 other permitted reasons for travel. The main reason most American visitors should choose is: 'Support for the Cuban people'.
2) Do US Citizens require a Visa? Yes
You can easily purchase the visa at a Cuban visa kiosk at your departure airport. The visa costs $50 - $100 depending on the airline. Just arrive at the airport a little earlier to fill out the form and obtain the visa which gives you 60 days in Cuba (with a possible 30-day extension).
Europeans and Canadians can obtain a Cuba Tourist Card which gives you 90 days in Cuba. You can extend your Cuban tourist visa for an additional 90 days, for a total of 180 days.
3) Do you need Health Insurance to visit Cuba? Yes
U.S. Citizens / Green Card holders who fly to Cuba directly via the U.S. are automatically insured because a $25 fee is added to your ticket price. Keep your boarding pass as proof of health insurance and if you do require medical assistance, you present your boarding pass and passport at the hospital in Cuba.
Everyone else (Canada/UK/Germany/Russia etc) can obtain cheap health insurance at Solways Cuba website.
4) Do US Credit and Debit cards work in Cuba? No.
With very few exceptions, U.S. credit and debit cards do not currently work in Cuba. You should bring U.S. dollars to Cuba and exchange them for Cuban Pesos (CUP). Make sure the US bills do not have any marks or tears as these may not be accepted. In addition, you can check the current informal foreign market rate in Cuba on the ELTOQUE website.
European and other debit and credit cards may or may not work in Cuba but you should not rely on this as you will get a very bad exchange rate using your card at the ATM or stores. It is recommended you bring Euros or US dollars.
5) How much cash should I bring? Recommended $50 to $100 a day.
Bring more cash than you will need as it is better to take home the extra dollars you didn't spend than to run out of cash in the middle of your Cuba trip. Many visitors have run out of money in the middle of their trip due to not bringing enough cash.
6) Can I get Internet access on my phone while in Cuba? Yes.
You can purchase a Cuban tourist sim card in advance of your trip and pick it up when you arrive at the airport in Cuba. Visit the SUENA CUBA website to order the SIM card.
7) Do I need a VPN for my trip to Cuba? Yes
Everyone should download a VPN (recommend NordVPN or Express VPN) on both your laptop and mobile phone BEFORE you travel to Cuba. This is because some websites and apps are blocked if you try to access them in Cuba. For example, you cannot book an Airbnb while you are in Cuba without a VPN.
8) How much is a taxi ride from the airport in Havana to the city center? $25
There are taxis outside the airport in Havana into the city and most will charge $25 US dollars. Make sure to ask and confirm the fare.
9) What essential items should i bring with me to Cuba?
Bring all your medication, toiletries (including female hygiene), body spray for mosquitos and sunscreen.
10) Can i stay in a hotel or Airbnb for my trip to Cuba?
Americans can book and stay in an Airbnb in Cuba but are prohibited from staying in certain hotels that are owned entirely or partially by the Cuban government. Choose: 'Support for the Cuban people' when booking your Airbnb. Europeans and everyone else can book both an Airbnb or stay in any hotel you wish.
11) Can I drink tap water? No, Don't do it.
Drink only bottled water and also use to brush your teeth. Also do not consume drinks with ice as they may also have been made from tap water.
12) What should I bring as gifts for the Cuban People?
Over-the-counter medication such as multivitamins, Ibuprofen, Tylenol / paracetamol. Female hygiene products. Bandaids. Personal care products such as deodorant, soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste. Chocolates. Clothing. Shoes.

I traveled extensively across the island of Cuba in the summer of 2016, from Havana to Holguin, Santiago, Camaguei, Sancti Spiritus, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Matanzas and Varadero. It is a wonderful island, with lovely and friendly people, landscapes and historical remains and monuments, lots of involving music and an engaging atmosphere. It's also a time travel as it often feels like you're going back to 1957 or even earlier. Of course the standards are not those of Western countries or the USA, but you can adapt to them without effort. It is a journey that every traveler should undertake, with humility and an open mind to return enriched in soul and heart. I loved you Cuba and its people!
Thanks for sharing your story about your trip.
The Cuban people just want to be free. We don't want to live in the 1950s. We want a normal life with freedom.
@@user-ne3dv7rl3p Why does Russia not help you? How can we help to restore the nice buildings over there and I think the Cubans should be given a price for securing these great old US cars and maintaining them.
Yeah but in 1957 they did not have the misery they have today
Nunca se menciona el criminal bloqueo económico, que le hace estados unidos a Cuba desde hace mas de 60 años!
The criminal economic blockade that the United States has imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years is never mentioned!
This vid actually makes me want to go visit Havana. The people seemed very respectful and authentic. This shows the true culture over any touristic marketing. Thanks!
Do it!
You definitely should visit Havana! I recently visited Havana for the first time and it was an amazing experience and the Cuban people are as welcoming as anyone in the world. It’s a very safe place to visit and it’s history and architecture is simply top notch.

Totally awesome !! What an amazing place thanks ! José Raúl Capablanca y Graupera was a Cuban chess player who was the third world chess champion from 1921 to 1927. A chess prodigy, he is widely renowned for his exceptional endgame skill and speed of play. Capablanca was born in 1888 in the Castillo del Príncipe, Havana.

I am Cuban and travel there often to see my family. I bring supplies from anything like candy to prescription eye glasses & everything in between. I also send many packages with medicines for the old & children.
This video is very arcuate of the many struggles of the people , but believe it or not most seem to be content. A couple of corrections.
You can book accommodations using a CC but it all has to be done through a 3rd country Mexico , Canada or Spain.
I also bring a MIFI device for internet but I rarely use since I'm there to visit family. Most Cubans do pay for some sort or rent or mortgage. Power is cheap so you will see a lot of electric types of inexpensive transportation.
One of the most impressive things is severe crimes like murder , rape , pedophilia , robberies really don't exists , but it does happen from time to time. Justice is swift.
You notice all the produce? It's the best I've ever tasted in my life , no chemical fertilizers. But you notice no proteins like beef , chicken , fish etc.
You can bring loads of cash but things are very hard to get. No supermarkets or department stores. Well if your not of "The Party".
The people don't talk politics openly but in private they can't understand why a fraction the U.S.A. population want's to become Communist/Socialist. Me either.
I'm one of the lucky ones I got out when I was 5 , I am now 61. Shoot I have Spanish zero accent .
I am grateful to America & God Bless her & keep her safe always.

What I find quite amazing about Cuba, is for such a small country they had a massive influence on contemporary music!
True, but then, so did Jamaica, Ireland or Sweden.
I guess I'm saying size doesn't matter.
i went to cuba in april to may 2023 and it was such a pain in the ass to find food snacks and water that we just gave up and just filled our bottles with tap water from the casas we rented, never got sick tbh but the poverty and search for money i surreal... we went out to at least 7 banks in havana 1 night only to find out every atm machine was empty.
There is plenty of bottled water for sale now. And even shops selling pastries and snacks for those who can afford it. But yes cash is king in Cuba. Cannot rely on ATMs and the exchange rate is very bad even if it works.

I am from Cape Town. I went to Havana in 2017. It is awesome with wonderful, friendly people and lots to do and see. Viva la Cuba!
"Long live Cuba" says a tourist who doesn't go hungry in this dictator country. 🤣🤣
I really enjoyed watching this video, I couldn't help but notice what good physical condition the people in Cuba seem to be, but I also didn't see a lot of smiles. Thanks for the tour it's the first time I've ever really seen Cuba.
Thanks for the compliment.
I would say that life is not easy but that they are happier than in most western countries- it was noticeable.when walking around
Because they don't eat processed crap, they have a lot of sun, they help each other despite their poor existence. And they love music and dancing. Greetings from Poland to the Cubans! :)
Bellissima città, bellissime donne😍
hai bisogno di un buon oculista....se quella e una bella citta io sono babbo natale fammi gli auguri....per le donne da giovani poi si allargano con culi e seni famose nelle statuette che vendono ai turisti....

Thank You for sharing. People should watch this stream and get educated.
Cheers.
Educated on what exactly?
@@steveroman3729 Educated what a country looks like where people are forced to depend on the state for food, housing and basic freedom...
@@joeredman9354 I already know this, I was trying to see if the person was a bot or not by asking a question. If you watch the video, this influencer was talking about how great Cuba is and their healthcare, which is laughable.
These streets may be dirty but the love is overflowing.
These people still see each other...lol
I have never visited a country where it it's historical beauty still shines through in spite of its desperate need for investment, nor have I met more welcoming, friendly and hospitable people
They are imprisoned by American hegemony
Is this the result of the American blockade on Cuba?
USA seems to be a real democracy and freedom.

Hi can you tell me what camera did you use? 👍👍
Wonderful Cuba and wonderful @the Cubans, thank you
Super enjoyable video. TY so much for sharing. Not sure why you called it "The CUBA they don't want you to see". I've been to Cuba >15 times and this is just the way it looks in Havana and Santiago. Getting to more rural spots is greener and fresher of course. The cities are crumbling. Everyone sees that all the time. BTW Canadian credit cards work in Cuba and Canadians make up about 40% of tourists - if you are in spots that use credit of course, which is not many. Again, fabulous walking tour of Havana. :)
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback.
You wont get the informal black market exchange rate though.
@@kenergang4958 Right, no point using a debit or credit card in Cuba even if it works because you will get a very bad rate!
Actually Canadians make up 80% of tourists in Cuba

Besides the subject, which is obviously magnificent and very interesting, I really like the camera angle, which is wide enough without being distorting, and also the sound. I also like that people don't seem to realize they're being filmed. You literally feel like you're walking through the streets of Havana yourself. What equipment did you use to make this video?
typical tropical feeling. it's too hot for work.. :)
I loved weatching your vid!!
These images take me back to 1989/90 when I worked on Madagascar…..
Lovely atmosphere and very friendly people!!!
Thank you.
Canadians have always been able to go to Cuba. Does anyone else recognize that pretty girl atthe beginning of the video ? Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there. Barry Manilow in not gay..
Very nice and high quality video.
American politics causes its people to miss out on these beautiful and unique cultures.
Thanks.
Great Video giving the true insight to Cuba.
It looks like it could be a good investment to make it look like New Orleans and better.
Love the Nostalgia.

Thanks.
Cuba is run down for a reason. The only way that new Orleans idea happens is if Russia actually shows up and builds and mantains it for them instead of just sending money.
Crumbling city with people standing around watching it happen.
Unfortunately people are better at falling for the go to the sinking ship USA trap than they are at revolting against their local lodge of overlords.
Socialism destroyed a powerful Venezuelan economy so the people can pay several thousand dollars to cross into the US where they can't afford the absurd cost of living.
Of course it doesn't help when Zionist democrats incentivize via free "healthcare"for illegals and so forth. Unless your plan is massive inflation, control via poverty, and order out of chaos.
@@TheFreshPeddler Maybe it has something to do with the Trade sanctions on a country for taking government control of a US company owned oil refinery to give it's people and itself the profit from industry in its land. And a US billionaire pooped his 90 year old pants in anger and convinced the US to retaliate on their behalf.
You know, The embargo that Stops any oil or trade being allowed in Cuba, that the United Nations has repeatedly every year ask the US to lift for humanitarian reasons, because it has been 60 years of acting like petulant children now while Cuba doesn't bother anyone??
All while they grew to a 99% literacy rate, more doctors per capita than any country, some of the best medical schooling, free medical care, rations and social housing, and standard of living that's islowly rising compared to US doing worse in all those departments getting worse. Despite being allowed to trade internationally , while Cuba trades Humanitarian aid of free medical staff for wars or natural disasters in exchange for oil they can use.
