    I would like to see a competition where all the vehicles have to drive 20ish kilometers from a rural location to a small town, pick up 50ish kilos of supplies or another person, and then return to the starting point. I think of it as a real world application.

      Skis..... ..you can do that with skis.... ..I've done a 42km trip in less than 12 hours with a backbag weighing little under 30kg and an assault rifle... ..towing a sled behind wouldn't do much difference.... Fastest one in my company made that same trip in under 8hours but he was crazy into sports and stuff and even back then I was already bit on the heavy side and not as fit...

    Not sure I'd be terribly worried about speed. What I'd be most interested in is which machine can carry a predetermined load the furthest on a predetermined amount of fuel. Rough terrain would be a good one of course.

    • @caseyspruill1410
      @caseyspruill1410 5 років тому +6

      I think it would have been nice to know the average range of each one with a full fuel tank along with load carrying capacities. Another thing many people would want to know is which machines are the most comfortable to operate on longer trips.

      Those 2 wheel drive rokons have hollow wheels to carry fuel. And when empty allow floating across river.

    • @rogerlawrencewhite1475
      @rogerlawrencewhite1475 3 роки тому +3

      I agree that carrying a load as well as fuel capacity would be a better test. In which case putting a 10hp Diesel motor would make any of the vehicles preform really well due to the Diesels torque as well as getting over 100 mpg with that size engine. Wish I knew how to weld so i could make something appropriate to travel on snow and rough terrain, personally I love the Rokon copies

      $2,000 in 1972 is equivalent to $12,043 in 2019 So you could probably get something nicer if you adjust for inflation.

    Dont understand when people like "just buy 90s snowmobile/sportbike/supra/etc. gonna be stronk" most of old vehicles, espesially those which are made for fun, require much attention and supply of parts, which are often expensive. Also, in some countries you have to have licence to ride a smowmobile. Moreover, some models of sleds are capable to go hard offroad in every season, not only in winter.

    I think putting them to weave through some tight woods would be a good test, just like the obstacles... also the 2x2 bikes can have more power added to be faster.. not to mention that first race some racers jumped the gun and started way before the others did.... Also some sort of lifting test over obstacles like a fence or something & going through creeks & valleys...
    Deep powder snow test too could be useful to even things back out.... 2x2 might not be so good unless even fatter tires for powder snow... also transporting them in the back of a truck should be considered... also a warmth factor, I am sure the 2x2 with motor between legs could help to keep you warmer... or storage & ability to work on them indoors, a 2x2 you can bring into your room and up stairs if needed.. or a thin ice test to see who can make it across the thinnest ice. Just some ideas.. thanks for uploading, very interesting video!

  • @WW-wf8tu
    @WW-wf8tu 5 років тому

    In conclusion, you can see a 2x2 is not ideal for carrying supplies or being a speed demon or the safest vehicle for anyone to use. BUT it will get you to and from your destination over the terrain such as these. Roads, snow, rocks, weaving in and around small forests, etc. The worst ones there were the front driven sleds for everything. Probably the cheapest ones. And probably just fine for taking a bundle of kindling down a smooth driveway to your mailbox. Or vice versa. lol I would say your choice should be based off your needs and money available. :)

      @@davidoakley3256 you are right. It is not an Arctic Cat. It is a Skidoo. I don't know what I was smoking. Sorry. I'll change the original post but leave this here to document my temporary stupidity. :)

    Now I think adding a wench to the front of my snowdog looks like a great idea - great demo.

      I strapped a wench to the front once. She wasn't nearly effective as the winch I replaced her with.

    Speed would be less important to me. Consistancy and distance over various terrain. It also shows that it may be necessary to buy a more expensive machine and sacrifice elsewhere.
