That's awesome! I saw a video of an older Russian man making tires like that. He used a wire winch and utility knife to strip most of the outer rubber off some old truck tires. It seemed incredibly laborious but I see now the result is very impressive.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this video! That's the most capable 4x4, snotty' mud slinging, ultimate climb & H20'able one less than $10K anywhere around! I would really like to know what vehicle the articulating running gear was used or patterned after.... sheer genius! Thank you again sir.
another very nice review, it seems like it would be fairly easy to build one with a pair of matching rear diffs with spool lockers, a pair of drive shafts and a couple couplers with a u-joint in the middle. then get a motor and tranny from a tractor or small car. tires from small tractor or farm equipment. and sheet metal to make the body.
These would sell like crazy where I live. After the snow melts the ground is mud for a month and you can't find a used 4x4 atv for less the 3000 dollars.
@1 Hitter you would have to start with getting them imported, taxes, epa approval, and all the red tape. there are a lot of great products around the world that are not sold in the usa because of all the hoops they would have to jump through to start legally importing and it ends up not worth all the red tape, legal shit, money that the government wants before you would be aloud to sell. there are a lot of nice motorcycles, dirt bikes, diesel suv/trucks, guns, aftermarket parts, etc that is not sold in the usa because of all this red tape and money. but yea, i would buy one for sure!
Nice job. I think the thing would be a blast with a motorcycle engine. I used a Yamaha V-max engine, and then it goes into gearbox/transfer case. Kept very small, and it can't do what yours does, but the concept is the same. A lot of fun.
I like these small ATVs. Especially the mini mini ATV armchair. I don't need anything fast anyway, maybe 20km tops, that would suit me just fine. I just want one for cruising junkyards and beach fishing and cruising.
It could also use a shield so you don't stick your foot in the belt! 4 wheel drive articulated is for sure the best for really rough terrain, but I wonder if that joint would wear or break if towing that box full all the time?
Great review! It looks really simple to build- no suspension except for the low pressure tires, the front axle doesn't have any steering arms on it- instead the machine steers from the center pivot, and the front and rear axles are the same. I could imagine that you probably wouldn't want to go too fast in this, as the lack of a springy suspension would make for quite a harsh ride; a lot like a farm tractor. The steering must take a little bit to get used to, as we are used to turning with the front wheels; this vehicle turns with the entire front half. NICE
+Christopher Sturm thanx a lot for your feedback! You are right the steering is unusual and one needs to get used to it. As to the sispension its enough wheels cause the maximum speed is only 30 kmh
That type of steering is called articulated. It's found on front loaders, log skidders and rock trucks. Only takes a moment to get the hang of steering it. To make something like this from salvaged parts, the front axle has to be mounted upside down. So the wheels all turn the same direction. Been planning to make something similar. Better. Hopefully.
Review Machine Worldwide: we Floridians build larger but somewhat similar machines here called swamp buggies. we use 1.8 -2 meter tall narrow tractor tires and usually use a 4x4 truck for the chassis although some build a completely custom chassis. they are usually used for hunting here in Florida and carry several people but some are built for recreation. ours generally don't float.

Very nice! I am curious about tires and wheel. How do you do it? From another tire? You do carving to make it lighter? Tire and wheel from heavy machinery?
I have been a very big fan of Russian ingenuity for years. The homemade vehicles I see are genious. What is this particular ATV called? If it is commercially made, do you ship overseas. To the U.S.? I would LOVE one of these. They're brilliant. What would shipping cost? Central Minnesota.
The Sherp has made the trip across the ocean to be sold in North America. It's my belief these vehicles should be allowed the same. I'm confused that this government (democrats) continue to call Russia "the enemy", yet allow American companies to prosper and sell products in Russia, but refuse imports from Russia. Chevrolet, Polaris, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Monster Energy drinks, McDonald's, Subway, hand and power tool manufacturers, heavy equipment manufacturers and many others are allowed to sell in Russia. But as far as I know, there aren't many Russian made goods being sold at all in the US. That bridge needs to be established and maintained. Good working relationships. I understand you saying that it's cheaper to build it myself, as shipping costs may surpass the actual cost of building. But, as a manufacturer and dealer, mass production cuts costs. Thank you for your honest response.
To sell that in America, roll-over protection, covers on all moving drive train parts, seating to meet safety standards, lighting, a proper clutch, an EPA certified engine, seat belts... and on and on. Sorry, you can't have one of these things here. So now i need high strength tubing (exhaust piping ain't'a gonna cut it, maybe), an old drive train and an extra axle, a pen and paper (in case I wanna do some figgering), a welder, about 5 miles of duct tape, chicken wire, some crazy glue...
Excellent English my Russian friend, but just a tip... "Sweat" is pronounced more like "sweht" rather than "sweet". I give you much respect for learning our language though, I wouldn't have a chance learning yours.
It looks cool, but if those tires are hand carved out of old truck tires, how can you ever replace them? I don't see how you could. That's a huge problem for longevity.
Does it come with floor mats, for 2000us dollars it better come with floor mats! I want one for use in the u s a. TRUMP TRAIN why would you buy a commie collection of junkyard parts like that ? You could build one for a couple hundred bucks from your local junkyard.
You can of course chance the setup if you have access to lightweight engine+transmission, if all possible with reverse gear. Then you can use its clutch and remove liability of belts from system Also add power steering if engine supports it.
Beautiful model / driver. Beautifully engineered/constructed machine. Handsome kids having fun. You are a rich man. 1/10th the price of the sherpa... or less? I forget how much those are. Maybe add a small old boat propeller on driveshaft right before the rear differential...?
Not sure if I should buy it, or if I should get REALLY good at welding and build one out of scrap. Might swap the engine out for a v-twin though. Bit of a husky guy, so I need an engine with a lot of punch.
Really an awesome machine. Is this an serie produced vehicle or is it just a one of. Since it's made out of scrap mostly, it would be hard to really serie produce. If it can't be bought outside of Russia, maybe it would be possible to make a "how to" on the build? Or at least post the contact info to the producer maybe something can be arranged. Thanx very very much for this video.👍👍👍
From the look of it- a set of rear axles, a single (heavy duty) steering knuckle, a small 15hp (or so) engine, a small car's manual transmission, and then mostly one-off driveshafts, bearing blocks, chain drive, and belt drive mechanism with a manual tensioning arm to act like a clutch. Probably not too hard of a build if you have the shop, tools, and time (+some extra $ lying around). Then add some ridiculously large ATV tires, or just do what our Russian friends have done a shave a set of truck tires down. I like the design, it's pretty simple in parts yet very capable in that type of terrain. The steering system seems to tie the whole design together, and may be a slight weakness, as the turning radius seems (to me) to be a bit wide, so don't expect to turn on a dime. Knowing this, you would have to be more careful in picking your lines if you are rock crawling, or where you may fit if trail riding.

We had these in America back in the 1960s - They were called "Coot ATVs" and are much better than this thing.
That's a great design and a great prototype. It's very practical and capable. With a few minor improvements it would probably have a large market.
Finally a 4wh that doesn't have to cause years of erosion to drive through the woods , hardly leaves a track.
