I bought mine the end of Feb 2022, $4300. Checked online yesterday, they are up to $5050. Glad I saw your video when I did. I would have paid the $750 more. Used mine for the first time yesterday. Sure is fun. Going to take awhile to get use to controlling it, hahaha. Does anyone know what the block in the hydraulic line to the swing cylinder is for?
Wow yea that price jumped a bit my guess would be most of it is the shipping fuel has trippled or more in the last mouth or 2. I am assuming your price included shipping and taxes. I know mine did the price on the page was all I payed. And I don't know what the box is my best guss would be a check value maby 🤷♂️
I took delivery of HF Backhoe Jan 23, 2023, $3099+ $97shipping, as a "inside track member". Took 2 week from the online purchase. Delivery truck met me at grocery store, do to my long narrow driveway, and there 48' trailer. No issue having crate loaded onto my flat bed trailer with there lift gate pallet jack. Assembled in 2 hr with help of a floor jack and put it to work. Still getting used to the 4 levers, some seem backwards to instinct. Came with 1-7/8" tongue and chains. Everything bubble wrapped, plastic, started on 2nd pull after adding the fluids. Non-adjustable Seat is ok... But seems high and awkward, may cut the seat posts down, and weld on some foot rests. Outriggers storage is weird, but you can put the larger outrigger over front axle mounts, leave them sicking up in the air. So far so good. Amazon thumb on the way. I may post a video if its sunny this week, walk around, lever operation. If so I'll edit this comment with a link. There's a Betsco dealer an hour from me, but $1000 more. Have a great Day!
As of 1-24-2023 bestco is $3500 but yes 250 shipping but if there's one near you now shipping charge. But sounds like your happy with the Harbor freight one so that's good. When I went to get my towable backhoe Harbor freight's was on backorder for a unknown amount of time.

Thanks for the review. I have been wanting to get one of these for a couple of months. Like you, I watched a lot of videos and read many reviews. This video has been a big help in making my decision to get the Betstco. I just ordered it with the thumb to help me with wood and brush piles. Thanks again.

I have one the same and I like it. I use it all the time. I've tow around 45 to 60 and travel perfect no swaying in it. I'm going to upgrade to electric start, electric motor for a set of wheels and hydraulic arms.
I bought the same one and I'm very happy with it. I've done ditches, stumps and cleared my land. I also got the thumb and use it to pick up logs to put on the sawmill. This is way better design than harbor freight. My son and I both have fun with it. Great piece of equipment for kids to learn from and stay off the cell phones and games.
The Betstco is only 150-200 more then the Harbor freight . Betstco hads taxes and shipping priced in 4000 for Betstco and 3800 for harbor freight after you add in taxes and shipping
I bought one because of your first unboxing an review. This is a great machine for the money. I built a thum and throw eight foot logs , like Santa throws candy cains.

You should either ground your hydraulics or pin them. Kids like to play on things like this and your leaving this thing in an energized state. Its also a danger to you.
Sometimes the low.speed for these is to do with the axle bearings and tire speed. Some axle bearings is for low speed. The type of grease they use on the bearings.
If the tank goes to where the boom mounts you will eventually get a leak there. But that took 3years to happen on my hb5 it's all china made. Your is a hb5 also. I got a 9 inch and 2r inch bucket with mine. My first mod to it was plugging the lower breather and running the fill tube up and around. That was because the machine is designed for flatish ground and I live in WV so flat is not thing here
For $500 more I would expect a few things to be better. Though most of what you talked about isn’t so. There is a storage spot for outriggers. The upgrades that I saw were the valve body controls, the two parking jacks, the seat and hose covers. Pricing those things out it is an upgrade from HF and the price reflects it as such. It would absolutely cost more for someone with a harbor freight machine to add those. But you would also have back up parts for an unexpected brake down. Good machine if you have the extra money for sure.
From everthing I seen in a harborfreight trencher group I am in then metal on this one is thicker no rounding out of the pin holes and I have seen a lot of people bending the hydronic cylinder. And I believe the tires are much bigger and better I have had no problem towing it down the road at 55-65mph. But I'm not saying the HF one is crap.
Well the only thing I noticed better was the upright for the outriggers. what I didn't like about yours is the cylinder for the swing was under the unit, whereas the HF is above the deck. All in all looks to be stronger construction. Happy digging.
Did yours come with the bucket thumb? Mine did not. I see a thumb on their website photos, but when I talked to them they said it didn't come with a thumb?!?! Other than that I love mine. Wish the outriggers feet were a bit stronger, and I had to weld a crack in my bucket but I was using it to dig out pretty big stumps. Would like to mod it to be able to have 4 tiers on it at the same time to keep from having to do all the flip-flop to get it ready to tow around the property, but small price to pay for nice little machine that didn't break the bank.
I did not get a thumb. Its a add on option on the page. And if I am digging in different place in the same day and not a long trench I leave my hitched and dig that way. I have a video digging out the driveway for a covert where I leave it hitched worked great.
Howdy, I received mine about 2 weeks ago. I have about 7 hrs. on it. I had a coupler fail on me and replaced the whole assembly. Just curious if your coupler assembly is doing good. My new coupler is failing, it's shredding the red plastic damper in between the pump and engine, but at least the coupler is not sliding away from each other. I believe my pump is failing? I have a video on my page to show what had happened. Since you and I are the only ones posting about backhoes, i figured we could share any info on other issues we have come across. Thank you for your time.
I have appreciated learning from your experience. I noticed when you demoed it some time ago the controls seemed jerky. Was there air or touchy controls or just a new operator? Just want to know what to expect. Thanks for making this videos.
Hydraulic controls are either Black and White (on or off) and Proportional are progressive. All Black and white controls are jerky. The only way to be a little smoother is to get good at lightly feathering the controls. But it will still always be a little jerky. Slowing down the haudraulic flow by lowering the engine RPM's reduces jerkyness as well.
The website has it weigh at 1500lbs that being said If you stick out the boom you can move it around by hand. But it's not easy. It much easier to just use the bucket to crawl it around or hook it up to a lawnmower side by side or vehicle.
I got harbor freight one and on day one Started to upgrade everything from seat To pin holes I put a golf cart canopy on mine guess I spend 1500 on all the upgrades 4 wheels 2 inch hitch Welded washers on pin holes new pins Larger Hydraulic Pump increase main Hose an filter put extension on Hydraulic filler pipe to keep Hydraulic fluid in tank fix bucket open Hydraulic hose fitting so more fluid would feed Cylinders put on tool box After doing all that it's still a harbor freight Good little machine but don't expect Much Oh yeah put on extension on tow pin area made it removal with 2 inch ball Does fine on digging wish it was bigger An could go around on its own but is what it is Lol look at it all it is log splitter with bucket put tractor style seat on mine their seat isn't rider friendly if you know What I mean
Thats a lot of upgrades lol but sounds like you did all the things so it should be a pretty good piece of equipment . Please tell you got a youtube channel showing all the upgrades. If not make one I would love to see them.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 no I don't Don't have clue on how to Just old dinosaur I was just trying figure everything that was going cause Issues my best idea was getting the Hydraulic Pump replaced I got it from Hydraulic one same style had make few Changes but better not faster just more efficient is all
Well I just ordered one of these today. I was set on the HF one but after seeing some videos on this and the TE301H model this seems to be a clone of I am excited I went with this model. I paid $4.5k and the HF would have been $3.8k but I think the added benefits of this one will be worth the extra money. I have PLENTY of projects lined up for this thing.
Its 12inches and 1.24 cubic feet But for some reason they sent 2 buckets with mine. I got the 18inch one too. I'm gussing a lucky mistake for me. Any idea how big thr harbor freight one is.
I would think the same but i have asked alot of people that work on equipment with Hydraulics and have gotten both answers. But with this i eather put the traveling pin in place or lower it for safety more then anthing.
I've got the same machine. The controls seem a little jerky. I'm considering adjusting the regulator in the supply line below the control valve body. Wondering if you have had any experience with it.
No i have not messed that yet. It can be jerky some times. When but for the most part if i am easy on the controls its moves pretty smoth. Untill i get cocky lol. Have you gotten any other attachments. And did your come with both the 12 and 18 inch bucket
Yes I didn't expect to but got both buckets. I've only used the smaller one for trenching. Plan to use the other this next spring to dig a small root cellar.
I did not know if it was a mistake. When i got it. They should put it in the description its a very nice bonus to get 2 buckets .And i would like to dig a root cellar too next year . Hope yours turns out awesome.
I picked up a Harbor Freight trencher, used for about half the price of the new one. I abuse mine and because of that, I do break it from time to time but I fix it well beyond OEM strength. The wear points from the pins are very common on the HF and I like some features of the Bestco by far, basically what you said in your video pretty much. Only advantage with HF I can see is digging depth, but if I had to buy new, I'd grab a Bestsco for $300 more...
4300 is total price should enclosed taxes and shipping the prices I payed was the price they had listed when I bought mine. Everthing enclosed. And from what I been told from someone who had both the metal is much thicker and over all better. I would still like to find a harbor freight one in person and put the then side by side. Betstco recently had a 20% off sale.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 thanks for your quick reply. I haven't used mine much. You're right, it's not that big a deal. I am already compensating, lol. Was just wondering if something might be wrong with mine. I haven't heard back from Betstco yet.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 I emailed them. I think you are right though. I have asked the guys with Jansen and Kellfri hoes, which have larger pumps, and they don't have this problem. If I don't hear from them I will call. Thanks
In Ohio log splitters and towable backhoes don't need to be registered. Can not take them on the interstate highways, towing speed is 30mph. Basicly same rules as farm equipment.
betstco.com/product/towable-gasoline-engine-powered-backhoe-pk-atbh7/ It was $3200 last year when I got it. Now its $5300 I still belive for that price its still worth the difference. And it may drop back down plus you can fond discounts from time to time.
I wish I it had one i would have payed $500 more easily for that option . I haven found some electric start add on kits but don't knowbif there a exact mach so I have picked one up. I will say I had shoulder surgery on my right shoulder back in December and I was able to start it in March. With just a few easy pulls but I cheat and use stater fluid.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 my brother hurt his back hanking on a starter rope so bad he had to have back surgery and had to buy a $2000. recliner to sit in! I refuse to pull a rope to start an engine. My chainsaw and weed eater are electric, and I have an electric start generator in my pickup to supply electricity. If Harbor Freight upgrades their unit to the electric start 13hp engine, then I would save up my nickels and buy one.
I get frustrated running an actual backhoe after running an excavator for years. I would be quivering running that thing 😆 I can't run a hydraulic wood splitter either after running a super splitter for years. It's like slow motion.
Yes and you can get lift gate option if you don't have a forklift or tractor to unload it. It comes on a tractor trailer so keep that in mind. They used FedEx amd when they called to Schedule a drop off time. I asked to pick it up at there building. It was easier for me that way amd they loaded it in my trailer for me.
If you look at my first video when i put it together you can see me crawling with it. Its where you lift the front up with the bucket and pull it around. With a little practice you become pretty quick at moving it. Another way i get it around in the back yard is got a ball hitch for my ridding mower it pulls it around just find. I think the ball was around $10. Just make sure its for a ridding law mower the threaded part is different then a truck.
There was not much on one when I made the video but now I believe its 1000-2000. After seeing what this one can do. I still believe this one is the better choice but I would love to find some one with a harbor freight one and do a real side by side Comparison
Yes it has place for a thumb to attach and its a option you can get. Theres a link in the description to there page and right now its $4000 taxes and shipping included i belive the thumb is $200. The Harbor freight one is $3800 after shipping and taxes and no thumb mount.
I'm not sure why this showed up when I was looking for mini excavators. On an excavator the upper portion can turn around the full 360° circle so that they can load trucks directly behind itself. Backhoes cannot.
Just checked the price. Its over twice the price! 3'000 extra, it SHOULD be better. Alot better. And in a whole other bracket, not the ssme as the harborfreight. 3k extra?
Inflation Is crazy. And with harborfreight not increasing there price much Really shows how overpriced it was before. Just remember when the video was made the prices were not far off. With out looking I believe I payed $3500 with free shopping and got a free 18inch bucket. Plus when I had a issue I got grate trouble shooting support and the send me free (not even shipping cost ) parts about $500 to try to fix the issue. The send me a main cylinder, the hydronic control box and pump. It ended up being the pump. So I got to keep the rest. I ask if they want me to return any and was told to keep it. Try getting that service other places. But yes if it's $3000 more now I totally understand they are different classes. I'm just glad I got one when they were priced the same.
In the tow set up it is 6' 6" from out side of the tire to the other tire if i rember right but ill try and Measure it again soon. For you. If this is what your asking
As a former track hoe excavator operator, I have to say that the heavier machine you have, the more ripping force you have. This machine has no weight to it. My neighbor bought one of the harbor freight backhoes to dig up his water line at his gas station. It does not have enough weight and ripping force to dig through the hard dirt. He ended up having to hire a contractor instead. What a waste of $3200.
You can check my other videos with the back hole it worked great for my water line. And even digging in packed graval. They do say if you need more counter weight you can live it hitched to a the tow vehicle. Mine has room on the hitched arm and I plan on adding a way to add weight to it.
I have seen you write the same exact word for word review ( That's how I know its you) under a different name. Competition troll maybe? I own another brand than the HF or the Betsco model. Neither of these are the best deal IMO and "no" I don't suggest getting a mini-excavator.
Thats cool I only payed 3200 for mine 2years ago. The price for the Harbor freight one I belive has stayed the same price. So with the value of the US dollar now its probably a good deal. And I don't knowbif it makes a difference but the 5050 is with shipping and taxes . Atleast the price on the website was all I payed when I got mine. The harbor freight was 3880 with shipping and taxes. last I checked. But no matter what I hope it is a great pice of equipment for you these little backhoes are handy pieces of equipment. I am about to go out and use mine today to plant some tree. Have a great day.

Do u have any videos of you operating this machine?
Yes there is a play list on my page with more videos. There is one if me digging a water line.
Ill check out the video.
It probably wasnt lined up correctly and will happen again if not corrected
@@ryandee8543 Found that the pump had a dead spot and it had failed. Since replacing the pump all has been good.
I have appreciated learning from your experience. I noticed when you demoed it some time ago the controls seemed jerky. Was there air or touchy controls or just a new operator? Just want to know what to expect. Thanks for making this videos.
New user I had to learn to be more gentle with the controls. It took time to run it smother.
Very good review, thanks
What weight is it and are you able to manually pick it up at the hitch end and walk it about?
The website has it weigh at 1500lbs that being said If you stick out the boom you can move it around by hand. But it's not easy. It much easier to just use the bucket to crawl it around or hook it up to a lawnmower side by side or vehicle.
I would love a reason to buy one.
If you thanks long nuff you can come up with one lol
I got harbor freight one and on day one
Started to upgrade everything from seat
To pin holes I put a golf cart canopy on mine guess I spend 1500 on all the upgrades 4 wheels 2 inch hitch
Welded washers on pin holes new pins
Larger Hydraulic Pump increase main
Hose an filter put extension on Hydraulic filler pipe to keep Hydraulic fluid in tank fix bucket open Hydraulic hose fitting so more fluid would feed
Cylinders put on tool box
After doing all that it's still a harbor freight
Good little machine but don't expect
Much
Oh yeah put on extension on tow pin area made it removal with 2 inch ball
Does fine on digging wish it was bigger
An could go around on its own but is what it is
Lol look at it all it is log splitter with bucket put tractor style seat on mine their seat isn't rider friendly if you know
What I mean
Thats a lot of upgrades lol but sounds like you did all the things so it should be a pretty good piece of equipment . Please tell you got a youtube channel showing all the upgrades. If not make one I would love to see them.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 no I don't
Don't have clue on how to
Just old dinosaur I was just trying figure everything that was going cause
Issues my best idea was getting the Hydraulic Pump replaced I got it from
Hydraulic one same style had make few
Changes but better not faster just more efficient is all
Well I just ordered one of these today.
Looks like the model I have that is red and branded as Red Rock.
Cool ill have to take a look at them
I've noticed between your the bucket you got on your machine and harbor freight bucket harbor freight buckets deeper
Its 12inches and 1.24 cubic feet
But for some reason they sent 2 buckets with mine. I got the 18inch one too. I'm gussing a lucky mistake for me. Any idea how big thr harbor freight one is.
great perspective! Thanks for sharing!
Isn’t it better to set the bucket on the ground to relieve the pressure on the lines like you do front loaders.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 I did not get 2 buckets with mine wish that I had though
That sucks but I will say so far I sill have not use the bigger bucket. But when I dig the small pond it will probably come in handy
Only advantage with HF I can see is digging depth, but if I had to buy new, I'd grab a Bestsco for $300 more...
the hazard fraught is about 3k. the butsuko is about 5,300. definitely a bit of a difference.
It was $3200 a year ago when I made the video.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 ouch!! I was thinking of getting the non-chinese one, but I guess spending the extra bucks still gets me chinesium :(
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 its $4300 now, and HF is $3500,but you can get 10%^ off if you sign up fro the HF credit card.
Does your boom drop when using a second cylinder at the same time?
Yes the pump is not large enough to use 2 motions at the same time. But I have not found it to be to big of a deal.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 thanks for your quick reply. I haven't used mine much. You're right, it's not that big a deal. I am already compensating, lol. Was just wondering if something might be wrong with mine. I haven't heard back from Betstco yet.
I did you email them or call. Most the time when I had called back when I first got mine they connected me to a server or parts guy right away.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 I emailed them. I think you are right though. I have asked the guys with Jansen and Kellfri hoes, which have larger pumps, and they don't have this problem. If I don't hear from them I will call. Thanks
Do you need to register it so you can tow it on the road??
Not in my state. I am in ky and we dont register trailers. In a state you register a trailers you mite. But I wouldn't think you would.
In Ohio log splitters and towable backhoes don't need to be registered. Can not take them on the interstate highways, towing speed is 30mph. Basicly same rules as farm equipment.
Good video. What is price and where do you order from. Tks Eric
betstco.com/product/towable-gasoline-engine-powered-backhoe-pk-atbh7/
It was $3200 last year when I got it. Now its $5300 I still belive for that price its still worth the difference. And it may drop back down plus you can fond discounts from time to time.
I will need to add the tongue jacks to my Jensen
What brand and where did you purchase it, price.?

Nice new toy! Thanks for telling us about it. 🤗❤
Thank you 🤗
I like all the towable backhoes, but I require electric start.
I totally agree and I did the same with my chainsaw and weed eater years ago too. I dont know why this day and age theres not one on there.
Thank you, helpful info!
How does it dig???
I have other videos of it digging. But its dose great.
I get frustrated running an actual backhoe after running an excavator for years. I would be quivering running that thing 😆 I can't run a hydraulic wood splitter either after running a super splitter for years. It's like slow motion.
I could totally see that . The speed and power are not even close. But neither is the price lol
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 It will pay for itself real quick, I know just how expensive excavation can be, and it's sure faster then a shovel.
Did they deliver it?
Yes and you can get lift gate option if you don't have a forklift or tractor to unload it. It comes on a tractor trailer so keep that in mind. They used FedEx amd when they called to Schedule a drop off time. I asked to pick it up at there building. It was easier for me that way amd they loaded it in my trailer for me.
@@chickenhawkfarmstead8478 thank you for your response
I just ordered one $250 more than the harbor freight I'm waiting on it
Mine was 3750
So is it possible drag it by hand to move it? It hard to have a tow truck to drag it in the backyard.
Just make sure its for a ridding law mower the threaded part is different then a truck.
price difference?
There was not much on one when I made the video but now I believe its 1000-2000. After seeing what this one can do. I still believe this one is the better choice but I would love to find some one with a harbor freight one and do a real side by side Comparison
Cost…?looks like it’s ready for a thumb.
Yes it has place for a thumb to attach and its a option you can get. Theres a link in the description to there page and right now its $4000 taxes and shipping included i belive the thumb is $200. The Harbor freight one is $3800 after shipping and taxes and no thumb mount.
Thanks for the reply!👍👍
I'm not sure why this showed up when I was looking for mini excavators.
On an excavator the upper portion can turn around the full 360° circle so that they can load trucks directly behind itself. Backhoes cannot.
They cost more too.... The more you pay the more you get.
Did you actually use a Harbor Freight machine r are you just going by things you read from someone else?
“What is that 1/4”? Almost 1/2” 🥴🥴
About that.
3/8
Came as described
hi whats the width and how wide of a door can it fit

Use the second link in the description and it will take it to there page for this backhoe.
Just ordered mine with a coupon code and liftgate added for 2866. They said I should get it in about 7 to 10 days down here in NC from OR.
I would say 7 days mine should up alot faster them I expected. And thats hell of price.
@@waynemackenziesr5005 who are you taking about the mylife diy guy ?
You are not comparing apples to apples when you're talking about a track hoe excavator and a tow behind backhoe trencher.
I'd rather buy the harbor freight one for $3500 instead of $5050 for yours and stick the $1550 in my pocket

Thats a good price for the hf one. That's crappy about being on backorder. Befor I got the mine i was going to get the Harbor freight one but it was on backorder then too. When I called they wouldn't give me a estimated time hope they don't do they to you.

So true and i did the magnetic tool bar's lol
hyd hoses are to long
Never had a issue with then being too long. I am guessing the engineers that designed it made them as short as the can be. I thought they where too long at first but after using it as much as I have its never be a problem.
very quiet
Not to bad but I do prefer to have hearing protection when I use it.
1/2" thick??? LOL
Harbor Freight is ALL about cheap not wanting to spend 5000 on one get what you paid for people.
That's not much of a backhoe. It's not even much of a child's toy.
Haha your a funny guy. Its big enough to make a 6 foot hole. And its faster the using a shovel so ill be done before anyone shows up.
boring

Probably most everything is. But it was assembled in the US
