- The Mutingia Calabura also known as the Strawberry tree or Jamaican Cherry tree is an easy to grow, low maintenance tree that produces some of the tastiest little fruits that can be described as tasting like cotton candy. It is grown in the tropics and subtropics worldwide. It is a fast grower and starts to produce fruit very early. It doesn't like cold weather so it may need protection in zones 9b and lower.
One of my favorite trees.. I have 3...I live in Sarasota County Fl..
Thats's awesome. Warmer weather in Sarasota.
Air layer won't be as fast as propagation. You can take multiple small branches put them in water with a grow lights and have roots within a month or maybe two. Super easy to propagate.
Thanks for the tip. Happy growing.
Do you ever use The Black Cow Manure yellow bag? Everything fruits better with The Cow. I always stretch the green plant strapping.
Thank you both for your videos. Just discovered them.
Zone 10 A / B East Coast.
Looks fantastic 😊😊😊
Great tasting fruit.
We live in Plant City and have a huge muntingia, planted in the front yard. Made it through the past 2yrs. Roughly 16'tall.
I've planted two in the ground and lost both of them to a freeze. The one in the pot currently is doing good but if it gets too cold I will move it inside for a while. Glad yours is doing good.
air layering sugar apple.. what methode Sir? spliting the branch?
Very nice, I’m in Lutz also. My strawberry tree did very well this past year, I protected it with a blanket. How quickly did your starfruit grow, we have 2, just seems like they aren’t getting too big. Where did you get your mysore bananas from. We have ice cream and a few others. We have a peanut butter tree, it’s delicious and easy to grow.
I have a friend here in Lutz who got the Mysore trees from someone years ago. My Starfruit tree grew pretty quickly. Sometimes a tree needs a different location which can make the difference in the growth.
How should I protect it in the winter
I'm not sure. You can try covering it with a light blanket. I lost two trees to the cold winters. I know some people have told me that their trees have made it through the winters. Maybe planting the tree close to the house to get the warmth. Good Luck!

Hello neighbors- I’m just south of Lutz and looking to buy a few fruit trees like the Jamaican Strawberry. Do you have a preferred nursery?

The USF Fall garden show is in October and there will be a lot of vendors there. Also, Jene's Tropicals in St. Pete has a fantastic selection.
