Hurricane Milton at Mark and Cindy's Food Forest in Lutz, Florida.
Hurricane Milton took it's toll on our fruit trees, mainly our banana trees. We lost about nine bunches of bananas and save on bunch of ice cream bananas. Overall, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Trying the Jujubee fruit from our tree at Mark and Cindy's food forest in Lutz, Florida.
Переглядів 8233 роки тому
The Jujubee fruit tree needs little maintenance and is easy to grow. It does well in central Florida as it thrives in the heat but also does very well in the cold here in Zone 9b. It also goes by the name of Chinese date because if left on the tree to completely ripen it will start to dry and shrivel and resemble a traditional date. It is very sweet at this stage. If you eat them when they are ...

Hi there, do you have any strawberry guava plants for sale? I know it's an older video just wanted to ask
🩷🩵❤️💙
I live in Largo but I was in Lutz for the storm. We were going to go to a hotel but someone miscalculated and we ended up in someone's house which was actually really good except for they had a well so we didn't really have water but we had some buckets. We have some banana trees in our yard. I don't know which ones survived if any. Thankfully all of the ducks survived and the duck house survived and house survived so all of those things were good. But I just want to say that I generally refer to banana trees as anemometers. I think they're always the first thing to go down. We can tell which way the wind is blowing we can tell how hard the wind is blowing One time I was standing inside the duck house hosing it out and behind me I heard one of them crash to the ground. And then I forgot about it and finished my task and turned around and there it was. But at least they are better than those gigantic trees. I just searched for lutz because I wanted to see what was going on outside while we were squirreled away inside.
Thanks for sharing. Yep, banana trees are the first ones to fall to the ground. Hope you had minimal damage. Happy Growing!
I'm over in Clearwater and that was quite a storm. In past storms I have lost many bananas, but this time I trimmed them down to 2 to 3 leaves before the storm. Although a bit tattered I didn't lose any. I'm learning that trimmed and thinned out trees do tend to hold up better in the wind. Thanks for sharing.
That makes sense. I'm seeing that other people did the same thing. Thanks for the tip. Happy Growing!
Looks petty and very windy is it raining and I miss seeing the chicken cope love debi
Thanks Sis!
I live in central Florida 9a. I bought a Barbados cherry tree one month ago It has lots of new growth ,but no cherries yet. I am thinking about doing a softwood cutting to see if it will work. I bought the tree from a local nursery in a three-gallon pot. I planted it close to my house on the south side. Do you have any pointers for me.
do you mail or sell these seeds😊
Absolutely inspiring! Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise!
Have you tried growing the black mission fig in your area?
OK what’s your secret? How do you grow these wonderful fruits in Centra Fl? I live in Brooksville, and have two hardy-ish banana plants and a pineapple from Florida Hills Nursery (purchased online). I have some others, but those are the most reliable. Your videos give me hope. I’m enjoying them very much.
Have you grown Feijoas (Pineapple Guava)? Want to know if you treat them the same. I have two 4 yr old trees. This year was the first time I've ever had a few flowers.
Please tell me how does it taste. Does it taste like guava or not,? I have that tree in my house
I have 5 large trees around our dog kennel they are about 6-7yrs old now and every year I cut down to about 3-4’ except last fall I forgot and this year they are so tall I only got low fruit…my question is do u cut them down to 3-4’ yearly I can’t find any good pruning videos on it
air layering sugar apple.. what methode Sir? spliting the branch?
How big does the tree get?
It will spread out and get tall. Mine is about nine feet tall. You can prune it back to maintain the size.
Look good Mark!
Thanks Lee.
I have a purple one and just got a yellow one… they won’t cross pollinate and make something awful right? Wanted to have them both in the backyard
Im from Paraguay. We have that growing all over the place, its wild. I have a great recipe for passion fruit mousse with hand mixer: 1 can condensed milk 2 cans measured heavy cream 1/2 can measured passion fruit pulp, with or without seeds (must blend or process separately prior to mixing mousse if using seeds) Put the condensed milk in a bowl and hand mix (or use ur standmixrr) along with passion fruit pulp. Mix well. Add the cream and mix until fluffy. You can portion it, cover it and refrigerate atleast 4h prior to serving. Its super yummy and we give it to kids in the summer. You can also use this recipe and make ice cream with ice cream maker. Hope you make it. Remember!!!! Passion fruit seeds lower your blood pressure, so beware!
Do you ever use The Black Cow Manure yellow bag? Everything fruits better with The Cow. I always stretch the green plant strapping. Thank you both for your videos. Just discovered them. Zone 10 A / B East Coast.
Didnt seem to impressed
The red variety doesn't taste as good as the green variety but I'll take it because it's a sugar apple.
Air layer won't be as fast as propagation. You can take multiple small branches put them in water with a grow lights and have roots within a month or maybe two. Super easy to propagate.
Thanks for the tip. Happy growing.
Man i love these 🍑
I caved a bought one this spring. Actually very surprised at how much this likes to grow! Thought it was a slower grower. Hope I can see cherries this year
How is the test ? Are they sweet? I am planning to take some of the cherry plants to Bangladesh. Florida weather is semilar to Bangladesh weather. Plz let me know.
Beautiful. Nice that your figs actually will grow in the ground. No root knot nematodes?
I have been fortunate. No problems with any diseases.
How do you fight the squirrels?
Well, my tree is loaded this year which means there is plenty for everyone, including the squirrels. You will have to decide on a method to control them. Good luck and Happy Growing!
How should I protect it in the winter
I'm not sure. You can try covering it with a light blanket. I lost two trees to the cold winters. I know some people have told me that their trees have made it through the winters. Maybe planting the tree close to the house to get the warmth. Good Luck!
Hello neighbor, I’d love to see an update on your food forest. Learning a lot and planning on what works so near Lake Mag.
I will probably do an update video at some point this summer. Happy growing.
Beautiful
Great video. Thanks
Thank you!
Hello I live in Lutz as well. Do you sell your sugar apple seedlings?
Not at this time. I'm waiting to grow more and get more seeds to plant.
Just planted mine off 54 in Lutz 🤞
Excedllent. Happy growing!
Nice healthy tree ❤ I had one ordered from Amazon Just a little stick and it turned in a beautiful bush with lots of little cherries. I ❤the pink flowers. I planted a new one from Lowe’s and hope I will get this bigger fruits. The bushes cherry only as big as a big pea but they taste delicious Happy gardening 😊
They are pretty low maintenance. Enjoy and Happy Growing!
Aratiles in philippines
🙂
Those are not ripe!
You have to get them before the squirrels do.
Just ordered a small strawberry guava tree from Amazon, this video is helpful, because I had never heard of this tree, and I am looking forward to seeing it grow, thanks.
A unique tasting fruit. You will love them. Happy growing.
Looks fantastic 😊😊😊
Great tasting fruit.
Does fig tree defoliate in winter in your area?
Yes, all of my fig trees lose their leaves. They always come right back after pruning in mid winter.
Looks yummy 😋
They taste wonderful. Best fruit ever!
Love this ita in the rgv south texas and is a great tasting fruit
Enjoy! Happy growing. I love the fruit.
I wish mine was that big
Give it time. Water, sunshine and fertilizer. Happy growing!
We use to call it “ custard apple”
Yes, it depends where you live, different names.
One of my favorite trees.. I have 3...I live in Sarasota County Fl..
Thats's awesome. Warmer weather in Sarasota.
You guy are fantastic! Can’t wait to see what’s in-store for this season…subscribed ✅
Thank you. Happy growing
Love the video! I live in Spring Hill and my parents live in Odessa - it’s super helpful to see what can grow around here! Do you know of any markets or stores that sell some of these fruits nearby? I want to plant some exotic fruits on my property, but would like to know what they taste like first
It's hard to find a lot of these fruits but your best bet would be to look of some Chinese and Indian markets. They carry the best selection of rare tropical fruits. You can also order from Miamifruit on-line.
Do you have splitting/cracking issue with brown turkey figs?
Splitting will happen if you let them ripen too long on the tree or if there is too much rain or watering.
What variety of pomegranate tree do you have?
The Vietnam variety.
Sugar apples trees looks bad. Did you cover them? I think you should make another video how your trees recovered, i am interested in sugar apple bc i got one, it's in a pot.
I covered the trunks but it not help that much at all.
Where did you buy black variety? I am nearby:)
Mine are not the black variety. I did find the two trees at Lowes.
Do you have 2 different varieties or it's just 2 trees same variety?
Same variety.
