CUSTOM 1950 Chevy Sawmill Truck Build... Pt 1

- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Today I finally get started on my sawmill truck build! It's a 1950 Chevrolet 4400 that I'm doing a chassis swap onto a 1999 C2500, adding air ride, 24" custom Alcoas and a service body.
That patina is sweet. Always wanted to do that type of project but with a duramax / Allison combo
Work of art!🤔’Cream of the crop’ Blessed to see work
Like this be done.Best of luck on the journey of build!
Looking good Jason! The truck too...
Ha! Thanks, Jerry😉
Man I just stumbled across this video can't wait to see this thing finished ❤
Thank you, Todd! I’m actually getting a lot done on it over the next few days. I hope to have an update posted next weekend.
Can't wait to get that cool sawmill truck done to see the finished product if he's anything like your woodworking that you do it will be
Thank you! There will definitely be some “woodwork” in the truck.
I hate car videos but this was genuinely interesting, either way support you doing what you want on your channel. I look forward to seeing it done. The rims look amazing.
Thank you! The problem with most videos, not just car videos, is lingering too long on a process. I try to keep things moving. Watching a 20 minute video where nothing gets done is pretty boring 😉
Love Alcoa rims, one super cool project. Best of luck.....
Thank you! I can’t believe how light they are.
Boy am I glad to see that starting .the truck that is
Me too!
I'm liking the vid. Keep it coming. It's cool your in the sawmill business.. I work for a sawmill company. I hammer saws.
But I'm loving how this truck is coming.
Thank you! I have a couple big table projects and then hope to have a couple weeks to hammer out some progress on it. Stay tuned 😉
that is going to be an amazing truck!! those rims are fantastic!!
Thank you!
Way to mix it up. You got skills, you should share them.
Thank you!
That's going to be pretty bad ass buddy.i have a 37 olds.slant back w a 454 n open headers all on air.beautiful car.i love that truck.it's going to be cool.i have that exact hoist.those wheels n tires look fantastic dude.
Wow! That’s awesome! A big block wouldn’t be a bad idea😉 I’m definitely loving the hoist. Sure beats rolling around on a creeper.
@@NorthwestSawyer i also have a 67 dodge charger w a 440.i built the car for my wife.beautiful car.
@@exotictones1054 you’re a nice husband 😬
Wow that is a awesome project, I know you will make a wonderful job of the truck and look forward to future video's on its progress.
Thank you! I’m pretty happy so far. I’m busy building three tables this week but hopefully I can get back on the truck soon.
Awesome project Truck
Thank you!
Great project! Show more videos please.
Thank you! I’m working on the next one now. Stay tuned!
Funny how any workshop immediately fills with old junk😄
Hey now! I don’t see any junk!😂
@@NorthwestSawyer I don't see any junk in mine either, but i'm told...
I love what you are doing to the truck, please keep us all posted.....
Thank you, Peter! I definitely will.
I have seen guys take dodge diesel 1 tons and do this swap. going to be great when your done. My 31 Chevy project has been on going for several years now. Which I could get it done. Ron
I’ve been there with the lingering projects for sure. My ultimate plan is to replace the V-8 with a 12V Cummins. They’re getting hard to find without buying a whole truck.
I was wondering about the truck in your last video. That thing is looking sweet. Really hope you keep the patina coloring 🤞. Can't wait to watch the rest of the series on it.
Thank you! Yep, I’m clear coating the paint and that’s it. It’s perfect.
Nice
Thank you!
Pretty nice set of saw horses under service box. Whats your thinking on building this truck. Reliablity & price versus new chevy. How do you plan on using your rebuild. It would be a good vid, if you explained your reasoning & strategy on this project. Is it going to be a cruiser or work truck. Hope you take a couple of minutes w/your strategy,in upcoming videos. Good Watch like always.
Thank you! There’s a video about those saw horses😉. My ultimate plans for this build is to have a reliable cruiser/ advertising/ work truck. I want to paint my logo on the door and hit the local cruise-ins and car shows. I’ve never seen a truck of this era with wheels like this and a service body. I think it’ll be a conversation starter once it’s on the road.
I enjoy each episode previously and was unsure about this one. BUT I look forward to the next one, as usual. My only question..... Are you going to do a classic patina looking paintjob?
Thank you! I am leaving the paint alone other than a clear coat to protect it.
Looking forward to this. Are you keeping the patina?
Thank you! Absolutely! It’s what attracted me to the truck.
@@NorthwestSawyer I’m jealous again. Got sucked into your channel watching you build the pergola with the fire pit underneath and been here since. Now the truck.
@@larryboyle590 my plan is to keep you around for quite a while longer😉
👍
Save yourself a lot of trouble and sell that service box for double what you paid for it and do the respectable thing!
Put a classic old school flat bed on it!!
Simple metal frame and a wood deck!
That’s what that truck screams for Jason!
If you really need boxes put them under the bed or on it
😉
Looking awesome so far bud!
You just wait! It’s gonna be Slam-approved! I promise. 😬
man I'm gonna be so mad if you don't make that bed out of wood, not really but it "wood " be cool
Way ahead of you! 😉
Gas can and sparks…living on the edge huh?
Dry cans present no danger.
P r o m o s m 🤗
Get the job done now because in 15 years you won't have the getup and go. No matter whaty you beleave now..
Great looking truck! Very interested to see how you make out with all of your modifications. Cool ideas all 'round so far. I love it man!
Thank you! I’m sure there will be several “adjustments” along the way. I’ve never done something this extensive before.
That's quite an ambitious project, Jason. Well beyond my capabilities. Are we going to see a set of chrome exhaust stacks?
Bill
Thanks, Bill! I’ve bitten off quite a bit here. I was actually looking at a couple old stove pipes that would make pretty neat stacks. 😉
That is going to be one cool truck. Please keep the updates coming
Thank you! I definitely will.
Can certainly see there's no rocking chair, pipe and slippers retirement for you! This is one COOL little project and with a few of the fun tools and toys to make it happen. May need a bigger or another shop😄.
Ha! Not yet anyway. I don’t think you’re too far off with the second shop idea😉
Wow that's going to be the coolest sawmill truck EVER! Can't wait to see it in person!
Thank you, Sir! I can’t wait either!😂
This could be an interesting series to follow. Something different. Good luck.
Thank you!
Love that ole chevie ! But I hate those wheels and the low profile tires. They will ride like a brick . But I am looking forward to the end result of the swap and the new wheels.
I would be willing to bet cash money it’ll ride a hundred times better than it did new😂
Could you do a factory dually front spacer to widen it out? I know a newer ram is removable but maybe not hub centric to that.
I’m pretty sure I could but I ordered 3” drop spindles that are supposed to widen the track width a little. I’m going to see where they sit after I get them, hopefully Monday.
Man that thing is gonna be sic!!! Sawmilling, woodworking and frame swapping!!!!! Sounds like a great channel for me!!! But I’ve been watching you for awhile now. Keep them coming!!
Thank you, David! I’m building tables this week. Stay tuned!
Did you notice you had a gas can sitting beside the building while you cut up that truck bed?
That was on purpose. I was testing a safety can. It passed 😉
Cool video 📹 !! Enjoy what I've seen so far !! Can't wait for next video !! Thanks for let me tag a long ...... 😀
Thank you! I’m busy building tables this week but hopefully I can get right back to the truck.
Freaking Awesome project. Interested to see how it evolves.
Thank you! I am too 😉
My kinda project! Come for the sawdust- stay for the welding sparks! We’ll done- all the best, Jeff
Thank you, Jeff! I’m working on my next sawdust video. “Log to Living Room” three tables from a log I milled.
I am gobsmacked to the beauty of this build. I am a very (old) long time lover of trucks and all things related to trucks. Now that said, normally I don't care for wheels like those but for sure, not a better wheel could of been used for motivation or looks to this truck. I think one of your hardest challenges is doing a custom running board between front fender and service body. If you could make some dummy battery box style steps... only looks similar to any step as your limited on how much can be used as a step for its not too far from the ground. What my idea is would be massive cutting to get it behind the door then cutting the inner door out to kind of make it a insert going towards the frame... even tying the box to the frame and coming out under the door with a very short style step look, not much for practical but just for looks. I have done tons of fab work throughout my life and for once am kind of stumped on just how to transition it right. In fact, it might not even work at all. I am here to yell and shout, its going to be a real beauty for **** sure.
Thank you, Morgan! Wheels can make a beautiful build look like 💩. I knew these wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I’ve never seen this era truck with them. They were $7k but I think they completely make the truck. Huge shiny wheels against all the rattyness of the rest of it and I think I’m going to install a wood bed floor to match the wheels. The best wood I can find finished to dining table quality. I have a plan for the running boards. I have a parts truck with full length running boards that I plan to scab together with the ones that came on this truck. I should be able to tie it all together. Stay tuned!
@@NorthwestSawyer I just hope you understand that these wheels are great... I normally do not like aftermarket rims but these really stand out. I think if you could find some nice maple that was clear enough, it would really stand out in the bed of the rig
Great vid, cant wait to see more, would love to see a wood floor on that service cab
Thank you! I do plan on a wood floor. I can’t decide if I should install reclaimed wood or super nice finish like the wheels.
Good looking truck 🚚 Jason, hope you're not going to paint it, it's outstanding as it is mate 👍. Good luck with it, keep the videos coming Jason. You are keeping me on tender hooks, as what's coming next. Best regards from the north east UK 🇬🇧
Thank you, John! No paint, just clear coat to protect what’s left of it. I’m working on three tables right now that should be next week’s video if all goes well. Cheers!
Cool truck Dude 😊 23:59
This is goin to bee a incredible build and that’s great you have the ability to do most all if not all of it!!
Thank you! I’m really excited to get behind the wheel of this truck.
That truck looks solid just by seeing it in video. It's a gem can't wait to see it laying on the ground. Good to watch your build other than sawing up logs. We like when people put old cars back in service again can't wait for more video's.
She’s a beaut for sure! I’ve been working on tables this week but hope to get back to the truck soon.
Looking great! I’m doing a similar project with a 48 international cab. What size tires are you using?
What a GREAT ADDITION to the channel!!!!!! I love it! Been watching for over a year now. PLEASE show the entire process of this build! Great woodworking + Great sawing + Great building projects = One hell of a great channel! 👍
Wow! Thank you! At first I wasn’t filming too much because I wasn’t sure I’d have an audience. I’ll definitely do a better job moving forward.
@@NorthwestSawyer No problem man! I’ll definitely be watching!
That is and will be such a sweet truck to ride in. I can't wait for updates on this project. If it's like everything else you do it's gonna be professional. That rack is a back and neck saver. Better put a cap on that head cutting those bolts off brother LOL. Trust me, it hurts LMAO
Thank you! I got smacked in the nose by the power steering fluid cooler. You can kind of see me red nose in the video😂
Nice old truck. I would suggest watching bad Chad channel that guy is a fabrication genius.
Your turning rad will be less.
I have a plan.
Awesome build! Do you have a link to those wheel adaptors? Ive got 1948 2ton 6800 loadmaster that I'd like to change out the split rims but having a hard time finding those adaptors.
Thank you! Those adapters are Chevy 8-lug to ten lug. They won’t work with the factory’50s axles. The body is on a ‘99 Silverado 2500 chassis.
What are you listening to on those headphones? The anticipation is ridiculous. May take time, but the truck will be absolutely awesome.
Thank you! I’m listening to how to build a truck on tape as read by Samuel L Jackson 😂. Or pandora. Probably pandora 😉
Trying to imagine Samuel L Jackson building a truck.. I am sick of these moth..... fuc... snakes on this moth... fuc.... truck.🤣
@@ryanallen4939 there’d probably be a lot of swearing😂
@@ryanallen4939 exactly!😂😂
Either way. I'd love to give you some of the logs I've collected over the years. I know you could and would use them before I get around to it.
Is this video recent? It's-20c here today. Looks warmer there.
Awesome looking truck. Instead of using the service bed stock tailgate I would find a tailgate from a 50 Chevrolet truck.
Thank you! I’ve been looking for a tailgate actually. Thanks for the comment!
You have mustard my year for 2023 awesome woodwork and custom fabrication FANTASTIC COMBINATION have been missing you sawmilling great great content thank you for sharing it in the process of planning to move to states buying some land going to build house and shop my passion is restoring classic cars so intend to that north idaho Montana already been busy buying some projects including a fire truck and several 41 Chevy pickup handmade a good start to this year
Awesome! I’m having a blast and I’ll be back to milling soon. I have a cedar project coming up. Stay tuned!
Cool project I'm doing the same thing but I'm using a 97 f450 7.3 ps diesel service truck an a 1960 f700 ford cab keep up the good work
Awesome! That’s a cabover truck if I’m not mistaken?
JASON!!! Awesome build! With all the ideas you already have, things will evolve for sure. I'm loving the patina on the cab. But Not my build! What ever you do It'll be great to see rolling down the highway!
Thank you, John! I’m definitely keeping the patina. Just a clear coat to protect it.
What fame did you use ? Beautiful truck
Nice to find a calm regular guy with great vision and smarts. Love the truck, with your ideas I’m looking forward to see the finished product. Stay safe. I will get caught up..
Wow! Thank you!
Sawyer, builder, equipment op., Hot rod builder. Any thing you don't do. Thumbs up!
Dishes! No, wait… I do the dishes 😂 thank you! Stay tuned. I have another truck video posting Friday 😉
Awesome video - can't wait for more. Definitely many strings to your bow. Regards, Doug (New Zealand)
Thank you, Doug! I’d love to visit your neck of the woods some day.
Holyhunguspolywunguswoh! What an amazing amount of work that you will have to invest in this project. This is going to be really something to see! Great video thumbs up.
Thank you, Craig! I’ve never torn this deep into a vehicle before. Hopefully I can pull it off.
I'm just as excited about this project as your sawmilling... Just sayin'. :)
Awesome! I’ve got a cedar project coming up soon. Stay tuned!
Hell, I want to see this. I enjoy your milling stuff, I'm four years into a 1972 Dart build.
Awesome! Thank you! I’ve been slammed with woodworking projects but I hope to get back to the truck later this week. Stay tuned !
Love the old truck mixing the new with the old some people don’t like that. I think it’s good. It shows creativity can’t wait to see it done. Enjoy the sawmill videos just as much as I am enjoyed this one. I watched another UA-camr just a few acres Farm with Pete And he restores the old tractors. I have watched every single one of them that he has done that he has recorded and I have learned a lot. Keep up the good work. When are we going to see the fire pit that you were going to be building is it on the back burner or did I miss that video?
Thank you, Dale! I’m still working on all the videos you came here to see. The fire pit was side-tracked by my shop build but it’s still coming. I still have the big timbers. Hopefully this summer. Stay tuned!
It’s going to be an exciting project to watch you bring together🎉
👍🇨🇱🙋♀️
Thank you! I can’t wait!
Can't wait to follow to completion. Hopefully your keeping the original patina, after all, it is an old classic.
Absolutely! I’m going to have it clear-coated once I get my logo painted on the doors😉
Awesome! 🇺🇲 U literally did everything i would of done if i had a ton of money!
Thank you! Send more money!😂😂😂 I’m out 😬
Thanks for sharing the build on your new toy Love it please keep us up dated looks good so far. PS I live in McMinnville
Thank you, Brian! That last end table I built is headed to the McMinville branch of Clackamas Federal Credit Union in March!😉
nice winter project
Thanks!
Lower the fifth wheel and get some alcoas for it! Hook it and let's go camping! Nice job #1
😂😂😂 I don’t think I can afford another $7k for a while!
Great looking truck. It'll be interesting watching your progress.
Thank you!
Love those rims. Looking forward to more. You do great work.
Thank you! I’ve been waiting this whole time to be able to get those wheels. Everything else is based off of them.
I like the diversity of your channel. Keep up the awesome work. You are doing what I dream of doing. 😀
Thank you, Colin! This has been my dream for a long time.
Nice! Glad you have the hydroboost brake system. Much easier to fit than the vacuum booster.
I agree! It should be a pretty simple install.
Sweet....are you going to keep that antique look...I hope...or are you painting it ? ....cheers
Thanks, Grizz! I’m definitely keeping the patina.
That’s going to be a great looking truck. Are you going to leave the cab that awesome color? Thanks for sharing.
I am, thank you! Probably just a clear coat to protect it.
Cool project. Wish your boy was just a bit older to really enjoy it with you. His time will come. Future projects.
Thank you! He claims to be looking forward to me picking him up from school in it😂. I’ll have to put some pictures of him at cruise-ins with me when he was a baby. I had a ‘63 Nova SS convertible and he’d ride shotgun to the shows when mom had to work.
Doug it has been said, "If you want a bunch of friends, Get a car trailer." If you want more friends then you can remember, "Get an auto lift." My question is. How many new friends do you have now after getting the trailer and auto lift? LOL I am just up the road.... Friend.
That’s no joke! There’s a guy on UA-cam building a similar truck and last week he installed a hoist. His truck wasn’t on it for a whole day and his buddy came over and kicked him off of it😂😂
@@NorthwestSawyer Yeah that is crazy how that works. I have a similar project planed with my 1953 5 window Chevy and a 1982 1 ton Chevy dully. I am very much going to watch your build.
@@badbadbob1 awesome! I watched a lot of UA-cam leading up to this. I’m happy to teach through my mistakes.
Nice patina.

A man will many skills! Looks great!
I like the sawmill content but I’ll stick around for the truck rebuild it’s in my interest circle.
Awesome! I have more sawmill coming next week😉
Just a fantastic project. Looking foward to the next video.
Thank you! Hopefully I can keep truckin’ along on it.
Those sparks from the grinder flying at your gas can as you were working on the tool box made me laugh! glad that nothing eventful came of it! By the looks of how this truck build is going I am guessing you won't be doing any off roading to get the mill to other job sites.
I was testing the safety of that safety can. It passed 😂. I might have to order some wheels for the mill!🫣
LUV it!
My Father bought an old `1951 truck back in the 1960's to use around his hobby farm. it was almost exactly like yours, Jason, To this day I still like that body style, and would like to own one now.
I'm now looking forward to the continuing build of your truck, it's going to be a great addition, of course I agree with the others on this.
Thank you, Reg! I can’t wait to get behind the wheel. First I need to install a wheel. 😂
@@NorthwestSawyer A journey of many miles starts with one step,...as somebody once said. Hahaha!
Please tell me you’re keeping the paint as is! Just a clear coat on top of that patina would be 😘
Absolutely!!! I’m probably going to “rough up” the box a little more too with my logo painted on the doors and then distressed. 😉
Currently working on a 55 1st series 4400 so this was recommended. What caught me though is at about 5:57 when pulling the old frame out, it looks like you actually had a rate option truck in that you had the regular trans shifter but also a 3 speed transfer case setup. Be a nice option to have really. And if it’s a 261, as I’m only working w a 235. Trying to stay mostly original. Keep at it as I plan to bag mine as well.
Wow! I’ve never heard of the three speed transfer case. I figured it was a two-speed deal. Good luck with your build!
You don’t happen to still have this stuff hanging around do ya?
@@SSGPohlmanI do. The whole chassis is still here.
That’s one cool looking truck! The patina is perfect 🙂
Thank you. I agree😉
What was the price for the tires and custom wheels? The service body looks too wide, How about flush with the tires and add fender flairs? My 49 Chevy 2 ton has a 14' flat dump with a head board. used a bench seat ot of a 4 row van. Don't touch the paint on the cab, she looks good.
Wheels, tires and ten lug adapters were just over $7k. If I put the service body flush the entire outside wheel would be outside of the box. I plan to tie it in with widened running boards and a cab rack.
@@NorthwestSawyer What I thought was narrow the box flush with the outside of the outside tire then a 2 inch fender flair would look cool. Get a square tube lumber rack, from Rack-It truck racks made in CA. 95682 tell em Rex sent ya.
