Those allens keys that come with kits😂😂😂. One of the first things that my dad taught me was to buy the drill bits. The second was how to cut allen keys. You’re a good replacement for my dad since I can’t ask him anymore.
Always start w the center panels and work your way outwards on each side. The center panels set the whole side. I highly recommend Tapcon anchors to secure the gazebo or pergola if its concrete.
Thanks! I installed a similar Pavilion/Pergola on my new terrace and anchored it using expanding concrete anchors (they came with the pergola). My terrace is 10cm/4 inch thick concrete/mortar with 2cm/0.8inch ceramic tiles on top. Do you think I need to waterproof the holes I made to stop water getting under the tiles, freezing and lifting them up over time?
Good advise. Thanks I am planning to install same gazebo 10x12 on my existing 16x16 floating pressure treated lumber deck made in 2023, deck sitting on deck block foundation. I will be placing my 10x12 gazebo in the middle of the deck & not on any one side of rim joist. My concern is my gazebo 4 posts/ legs will be just standing on the deck board and not on any joists. My question is How do I reinforce my decking board, so I can securely attach my 4 posts with 4 anchors/post securely, hence my deck is well anchored during heavy winds & storms. I installed (by myself!) the 10x12 purple leaf gazebo this weekend (during constant rain)- your video was the best one that I viewed. You provided actual close up installation video and tips on installation - the highlights for me were not tightening hardware (leave "loose") installing the roof in stages and to work from the middle panels first (so screws could be installed and reached!) also location of the ladder - all great comments and suggestions. I hired our long time builder to dig footings and he was astounded that it was "perfectly square" when he measured - I never touched a level - just the followed the directions and your "tips" - thank you so much!

Not to mention I also learned the purpose of those number settings on drill... 34 years old, been using power tools since my early teens and only just learned that haha. Thanks so much for the tips! 10 plus years of assembling, maintaining, moving fitness equipment and this has been my go to! But it takes some practice and skill to not cross thread or round out screws/ bolts. I also found out early that Dewalt 12v system is way lighter and powerful enough to handle all assembly needs.
Great time (and wrist) saving tips! I know we saw enough to get the job done but it's always nice to see each step as done as possible if for nothing else visualization and inspiration. 😊 We want to see the gazebo in all its glory screwed down and curtains on.
@Home RenoVision DIY I have almost the same Gazebo from Costco and some of the center roof panels are not bolted down on both sides but held down by the adjacent panels... If you are in a windy area like I am, that doesn't work. Since i am not interested in searching for my gazebo roof in the neighborhood, I tied them down with zip ties to the frame. Holes for the ties to go through are already stamped in the panels. Little hack great benefit.
Using the drill is a must, if you want to be even faster and happier while building go ahead and pull all the hardware out of the plastic and put it in some labeled plastic bowls or get some of the metal magnetized trays to hold them. That way you not trying to look at the labels on the front of the plastic after the back is open and you're not struggling to get the screws free from the plastic the whole time.

Last year we installed a similar 10x12 one. A nail set puch was really useful to align the roof pannels before screwing them down. And yah we used screwdrivers with Allen key bits, it was quite a workout! Thx for all the videos!
I would say that I got a similar gazebo for free last week. But I actually got paid to take it down! And you're so right about buying a set of hex bits for your driver. SUCH a massive time saver! I also use my angle drill attachment far more often that I expected.
We have rhe exact same one. Built it last year while i had a broken leg and still built it in less than a day haha. Grabbing the bits for a drill is a life saver!
2 of us built a 12 x 20 like this over top and existing hot tub. You cannot put weight on a hot tub cover. We wound up buying our garage shelving units to use as scaffolding to work above hot tub. What a process! Yes everything stays loose till final step . Don't forget gloves with metal sheets. We didn't remove letter stickers so 3 years later it is still the alphabet palace haha well worth the challenge installing it!
Good build! Took you more than 3h30 (more like 4h30). Gazebo assembly's are all different even if they look similar so make sure to always follow every step of the manual in order to prevent losing time. (Check twice, install once). Also, this is a very simple model, don't get fooled into thinking they are all this fast. The fast majority of models of 10 x 10 will take a good 5-6 hours with the proper material.
Allen key driver bits are a huge time saver. I use my impact driver on screwdriver setting, never stripped anything. What I'd like to know about more is how to know where it is safe to screw down the posts on an existing deck
Nice job. Only thing I would've done differently to save more time, would be instead of labeling the bolts by pocket, I would label them by number 1-4. Still keep them in your pockets, but just work clockwise by number/pocket. Front left=1, front right=2, rear right=3, and rear left=4. This way you're not calling out middle left as a hole location, and then someone calling back front right as a bolt location. Not only could that get a bit confusing, but them just calling out a number is quicker as well. Every second adds up, but you still did great on time either way.
1: 😂😂 " do you have a nut?" Matt: I am Almond Joy! 😅. 2: glad you got the grill up on the deck. I wondered if Matt was taller by a little bit, couldn't really tell for sure. 3: glad you got the outdoor areas done in time for winter, so now( spring) they can be used ready to go. Shivering black bell thumbs up 😎. Cheers?!!
I'm gonna catch flack for this, but I couple the allen key bits with a 4V screwdriver (Ryobi) when assembling furniture. The reduced power prevents over-torqueing the fastener / stripping the threads when you run the drill in high speed. As you say; right tool for the right job.
I had an ikea drill which was small, that I think would perform a similar function. They had a screwdriver too but I never owned it. I used that drill so much and it was so handy, even while travelling in a small campervan. I tried to fly it back from the UK with me but it was confiscated because the battery isn't removable. Damn I miss that thing... (we don't have ikea in New Zealand yet).
@@TonisuperflyTSA should have a shipping option for all that have items they would like sent on. I lost a nice pocket knife, I heard of a woman that lost a family heirloom antique sewing kit. The post office sells boxes that let you ship whatever fits inside for a standard price. It's really irresponsible on the government's part.
I have talked with several people who have had their gazebo roofs leak. Would a bead of something like a flexible (silicone?) caulk be effective in stopping leaks - used as the roof panels are installed and joined together.
Suggestion for next project - outdoor kitchen with stove, mini fridge and counter tops...that protected from the elements and screened in to keep bugs away yet allows for air flow.
Occasionally, you will definitely find those star bits will work perfectly with Allen key screws. Another thing you can do is buy a cheap set of allen keys, and angle grind them into pieces and just simply Chuck them in the drill. But I know you guys knew that as he did. Pretty cool piece of furniture. I definitely need it at my local Costco soon.

27:33 Suggestion would be to use a socket and a Drive Spinner Handle. This would be much easier to tighten or hold the nut in place. Pliers will just slip off and scratch the product.
when you did the roof supports it would have been easier to put all for on the apex plate, and tighten them down. . Get it on the frame and attach two screw to opposite poles on a roof support. then you go back and align and tighten. I put all 4 of my roof supports up alone. And correct you dont tighten up ANYTHING. And you best have a 18 to 20 ft framing square handy.. And I notice that you dont have the plastic/metal clips that go on the top edge of the roof panels
They have that gazebo on sale at Bjs wholesale club. We want one but seeing you and your son building it, makes me not want to get into that project alone. I would have to attempt this project alone because my son is busy busy with his son and sports and scouts. Jeff I need you and Matt to come down to Rochester to put it together.......great video
Tip, don't open your bubble pack of nuts/bolts/screws on a deck that has gaps the pieces can fall through. Incidentally, I once collected the nuts & bolts from a pool pump I was working on into a magnetic tray. Remembered AFTER they flew everywhere that such pieces are stainless steel.
As a self employed professional handyman, I use this trick all the time, I easily make in a couple hours what most employed tradesmen make in 10 hrs! My hourly rate is $100 an hour for jobs that I do by the hour but jobs like this, I usually double the price of the materials. I just did a contemporary gazebo from Costco and I charged $2500 for the labor and I made that in a couple days minus $400 for my laborer. Hope that helps some of you price these jobs out and price yourself out.
Almost 20 years ago I had to replace the buckets and brackets p\on a mail sorting machine. There were 120 of these and each had a2 10mm bolts. I went over and found a crap 10mm nut driver and sawed the handle off. I then used a battery drill with that "socket and did all tthat work ion jig time. I just hand threaded the bolt on a thread or two and then used the driver to tighten everything down. All the threads were clean because we had just removed the bolts so we didn't need any power to "chase" threads. We got all those done in 2-1/2 hours because of the time saved y using the driver. Work smarter not harder.
We got a display model a from Menards a couple years back. It certainly was a challenge. We have ours on grass and we drove down a couple of those screw ground anchors and put some ratchet straps on them and it has lasted no problem in high winds like gusts of 60+ MPH.
Don’t plan on doing it myself, but your good tips will alert me to the “competency” of the installers I hire to do the job (right, I hope). Btw- Lowe’s dept store installers quoted me $1,000 and that included securing the posts.
Hex bits saved my marriage 😆all those arguments about Ikea furniture go away when you take the Allen key out of the equation...I don't who this "Allen" is but I've got a bone to pick..
I have a Cozyard Alexandria gazebo, and i have built the structure, and i now i have to finish putting the roof panels. Well, I have not started on the roof panels yet. it's been 5 weeks since i started this project, and it is driving me nuts. I dont have any help with the remaining finished task . It has been sweltering hot, humidity and sun beaming down on me . Hopefully, i will complete this before summer ends . I wish you were my neighbor and ask kindly for your help. Great videos, as always . Thumbs Up .
I just had the same gazebo installed and my installer used some sort of sealer, I think silicon, for all of the roof bolts to prevent water penetration. Not sure if it was silicon, it was white and dried real fast.
So I like the little added bonus for supporting snow with the pole. Can you make any suggestions for hurricane areas. I lost my last gazebo on Beryl in Houston. Well I lost the cover first as it was cloth and shredded like Eddie VanHalen on a good night. So I ordered a new one and tossed up a tarp. Funny thing is I was going to change it this weekend and Rain filled the tarp and now I have a twisted scrap pile of metal so I'm going hard top. Also in this video, I saw you put in a hook in the top center. Can it be changed with a bolt? I like to attach an electrical box to run power and hook up a ceiling fan with an extension to keep it cool. The 12v fans are very light and effective if you add an additional 10-15" extension bar.
Great informative video. I will be using your suggestions. But what if you have a hot tub under the gazebo that reinforcement pole cant be used, what then?
18 minutes into the video and I am thinking you, a master carpenter, could have made this out of wood, painted it, and been grilling steaks already. Lol 😂

This way you're not calling out middle left as a hole location, and then someone calling back front right as a bolt location. Not only could that get a bit confusing, but them just calling out a number is quicker as well. Every second adds up, but you still did great on time either way.
We installed the exact same gazebo at my parents house and used the same method with the Allen drill bits. Saved so much time. What a coincidence!
Cheers?!!
keep up the great work, it is an awesome video and very well explained, thanks again
Sweet gazebo Jeff and light weight aluminum 👍
Jeff, I don't know if you get the chance to read these comments or not (you seem to have a super busy schedule 🙂). I'm hoping you do and I hope you read mine. I want to thank you for all that you do!! Your taking the time to teach me tips and tricks for just about everything is immeasurable!! I have learned SO much by watching you! In fact, I have the same scenario with the house we just moved into as your daughter had with the smaller extra room that you turned into a closet. You have taught my hubby and me how to save so much money by building it ourselves. Not to mention that you taught us how to customize it to our specific space! We will definitely be using your ideas for that room transformation! That of course isn't the only video that I’ll employ in our new house! You're incredible and I wanted to thank you for everything! Again, I do hope you read my comment. 🫶🏻

27:33 Suggestion would be to use a socket and a Drive Spinner Handle. This would be much easier to tighten or hold the nut in place. Pliers will just slip off and scratch the product.
thanks. Jeff ! love your videos!😢you’re a smart man! music is GREAT !
Thanks for the feedback. Cheers!
Excellent tips and way of explaining how it's done 👍
when you did the roof supports it would have been easier to put all for on the apex plate, and tighten them down.
I've been using this allenkey bit trick for years now, makes building ikea furniture a dream! great tips!
Installed that one with my FIL. The 14 feet one.
I took 2 entire weekends. Sir is "never wrong", so needless to say we basically built it 3 times!
Where can that support tool for the roof be purchased
Amazon carries several models - search fort Winter Support Post
Good morning,
You did a great job.
Can you tell me the brand name of the reinforcement pole you used.
I have the same gazebo in the back yard. I'm about to put it together myself.
Since the install how is this holding up? Do you think you have to tighten the screws after a few months or are they solid. Has anything rusted ?
You got the camera man with you as a 2nd installer!
Thanks. Commented to help the algorithm. Great tips!
22:15 You have a right/left pocket? Just kidding. You guys did a great install. 👍
Thanks Jeff... I have the same gazebo ... looking for winter curtains or panels and making the gazebo "winterized"... any thoughts?
I remember the deck you built at that same house some time back, great job
Thanks for the helpful video! 🎉
Congratulations
Awesome tips and tricks, thanks! So much to think about before jumping in
T33😅r hi
ey Jeff great video , one of your best. This is full of useful information. Thank you!
What hardware did you use to secure it to the deck? Also is it safe against high winds?
I’m doing assembly exactly like this every week in DC area
We got a display model a from Menards a couple years back. It certainly was a challenge. We have ours on grass and we drove down a couple of those screw ground anchors and put some ratchet straps on them and it has lasted no problem in high winds like gusts of 60+ MPH.
Complete novice here, can you explain how you attached the straps? What brand of anchors and how many inches? Below frost line? Thanks!
right/left pocket... good stuff.
Awesome, Great Job and tips!!
What a great DTE video.
OMG jeff you read my mind. Can't wait to see this

How did you attach it to the deck floor? I am attaching an aluminum pergola to a composite floor that's hollow underneath.
That Gazebo looks great, but I love Norm Abram's version much more.
How would you recommend I install this on my rooftop without drilling holes through my roof to stabilize the legs
Not tightening every screw from the start is something I figured out on my own many years ago.. it's saved me much aggravation over the years.
You sir are a dang genius !?!!!!
Great informative video. I will be using your suggestions. But what if you have a hot tub under the gazebo that reinforcement pole cant be used, what then?
I've already learnt a ton from your videos. Thank you sir!
What is that ratcheting roof support bar at the end of the video called?
Winter Support Post
I have the same one. I placed it on my back deck. I had to take it off to place the roof on it and put it back on.
18 minutes into the video and I am thinking you, a master carpenter, could have made this out of wood, painted it, and been grilling steaks already. Lol 😂
Of course some people knew about this already but I came up with that solution on my own two days ago.
What was the pole/support piece used at the end? Thanks
Great instructions and tips! Where did you get such a nice support pole? Was it included with the gazebo? If you bought, please share. Thank for the video.
