Great video! I have looked at the Sun Joy gazebos for a. couple of years and your video is a LOT more helpful than the online instructions. I only wish you would have spent some time talking about to best way to anchor these gazebos. Yours sits on a very flat deck. But what if we are looking at other surfaces? Do they require footings? How do you keep them from becoming fancy sailboards in high winds…you know, these kind of questions. Maybe you can do a follow up video?
I am fully impressed! It’s just a complete ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!
A lot of people are asking about anchoring down the Gazbo. Yes, you definitely want to anchor it into concrete with wedge anchors or it will blow away in high winds. I don’t know if Washington has high winds so maybe he did not need to anchor it to the deck. In my state the winds would rip that out of the deck.
Turned out great! Love the look, and assembly didn't seem too overwhelming. I've been wanting to buy something like this, but where I live (out in the middle of the CA desert). I still haven't figured out a way to secure something like this to the ground, without having to pour a concrete pad. Our winds are fierce, and nothing to take lightly. A friend built his own, but used some type of deck, or foundation block, and buried them. Should note that his does not have roofing panels, just joists, so I don't know how much of a difference it makes, when it comes to the wind, and the way it is secured to the ground. ❤️🌵☀️⛈️🌈☮️🐎
I would also mention about starting with a level surface. For me i have a flag stone patio that has a pretty decent pitch to it for drainage. 100% if I put this up the back left would nee to be raised up a few inches. there would be various solutions to this obviously.
Similar question to a few others. Did you anchor this to your deck? Do the Sunjoy post brackets have holes to anchor it to concrete or wood decking? Great vid, thx!
Here in Kansas, those are temporary. we have bad wind storms that destroy gazebos, privacy fences & roofs. I have a pergola that is concreted in the ground & still some of the top lumber gets ripped apart almost every year.
I have been looking for a gazes for our deck and I think that this one might be it. Love your channel and all the information that you can learn from it. Keep doing what you’re doing Brent!
Awesome description of how to assemble gazebo. Thank you for saving us so much time and headache. I really appreciate people like you, you guys make this world much easier. Have a great day my friend, next week i will start assembling my Gazebo.
I did mine by my self in one full day. Only thing challenging was 2 roof panels.(not counting concrete) I even raised it up 2 feet from dirt with 6 feet concrete pillars so when it rains. Mine is a different brand but they are almost all the same. Wood looks easier to put together.
I’ve been thinking about getting one of these. Please let us know how well it holds up over time. Also just wanted to say I’ve leaned a lot from your videos. Hoping to build a deck like the one you did before summer is out.
Did you have to align the footings with your deck joists? Any concerns with the composite boards sagging under the weight of this gazebo? Also, did you modify the shape of your deck? I remember from your other video where you built it, it was rectangular.
I’ve always wanted one of these, too! I also live in rainy Washington state, so I’m curious to know if you hear the raindrops on the roof…is it super loud?…it sure is beautiful and I’m still considering this. Thanks for sharing!
Great work as always Brent!! Your drone work is becoming spot on!! Will be copying that idea of yours for sure!! Great selling tool!! Congrats matey on another quality job!!
I’m presently constructing the exact same sunjoy gazebo. Didn’t yours come with four steel corner braces for the top of the posts? I can see that eliminating them would make the job easier.
Im really interested in purchasing the 13x15. It looks like this is sold under many names and brands. Sunjoy, Costco, Waiyfair, Amazon. Thing is, some say cedar but others say spruce. Some day ceder but then in the image slides it says spruce. The long beams look weak. That is not a very stiff beam. A 2x6 solid ceder would be better. Im torn between buying this, or building my own. But it would cost me WAY more than $2200 to build a 13x15 solid cedar copy. And I would have to build the roof. We've been using coleman canopys - the most durable ones weve found. Two destroyed in rainstorms so far :(
Great video with good tips but as many brought up anchoring, leveling and wind rating instructions are not addressed unfortunately in neither the video nor the answers from the author. Please do so and pin it to the comments section. Thanks.
Its so funny, I just finished one of these last week, I see you made the same mistake I did by not checking the direction of the post layout for the angle supports, I noticed you had holes on the finished inside of the post, I did the same thing. Instructions were not very clear.
I wish the promo code still worked. Looks like it doesn't work for that exact gazebo that you made. I was looking forward to purchasing it. Excellent instruction video!
NICE JOB, LOVE IT. MY WIFE AND I WANT TO GET ONE OF THESE ON OUR PATIO. ONE QUESTION, OUR PATIO HAS A PITCH SLIGHLY. WHAT IF ITS NOT ON FLAT GROUND? IS THERE A WAY TO LEVEL IT OUT? ITS A POOL PATIO.. THANKS.
Isn't the black roof heating up like crazy? I´m happy you get sponsored and most likely can make a living from youtube - buuuuut I enjoy it way more when you build things on your own :D which still didnt stop me from watching the whole video.
I would say regular anchors but this will not survive winds of more than 50 mph anyways, their carports are only rated for like 31 mph which is horrible....never mind just looked it up this gazebo is also rated for 31 mph
Is it possible to shorten up the beams without comprising structural durability. So say cut 1’ off a 10x12 and make it a 9x12 so to fit in a smaller patio area.
Can you buy just the roof section? I would like to convert my 11 x 13 soft top to a hard top. I think with the premade roof I can modify it easily to work if I could buy just the top.
I bought a small sunjoy gazebo with curved arches (bought under the BJs Wholesale name) Product number 280154, price $651 . It's 10 x 12 kit that weighs 200 lbs. Normally 16 bolts are used to attached the arches to the legs (4 per leg). The Sunjoy factory drilled 8 of those 16 holes in the WRONG PLACE. If you use these holes, many other bolt holes DO NOT ALIGN. I contacted sunjoy, they shipped 4 replacement arch pieces from China. The replacement parts have EXACTLY THE SAME MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. BJs Wholesale doesn't care and have done absolutely NOTHING to help us. Sunjoy has not admitted the mistake (on ALL the sets made under this model number) and obviously the factory has never assembled one of these to see how wrong it is.
Thats too back to hear that John. I really am happy with how this one turned out and all preholed locations where correct. It was actually my fault in a few locations where I messed up alignment and didn't see the properly drilled out hole. They must have fixed those issues in the past. Thanks for watching.
Where does the water do? Is there a gutter system? Looks like the water comes down the panel into a metal L beam. If the water sits in three it will rust out very soon.
Do It Yourself doesn't mean manufacture it yourself. At least in my mind haha. Still proud of anyone for taking on this endeavor themself. Thanks for watching
Hello - I just got the same gazebo and after getting the whole thing assembled, I can't get the lower roof panels to line up evenly. I've gone so far far as to loosen every bolt on the undercage just to see if I could shift it slightly, but when I get the left flat, the right lifts up, and so on. And the mfg doesn't answer the phone. Any ideas please?
I didn’t show that because I just tacked it in place with a couple screws for now. The kit comes with steaks as well if you place this on grass/dirt. Thanks for asking Todd.
Thats a great gazebo! looks a bit like the one from costco. I already got mine all steel for years and would never go back to a fabric roof! With strings lights, an outdoor fan and electric terrasse heater it becomes a real new room. Mine has mosquito screen and also between the 2 roofs I wonder if this has it too. Iin winter with a cover on it, the gazebo become a nice shed to store all summer stuff and pool stairs.

Nice work! Can you also share how to anchor the gazebo to the deck? That might be necessary and coded in some area. Thanks!
Use the appropriate bit for the material and screw/bolt it down.
Nice work and good detailed instructions. You’re correct a video is much better than paper instructions! 👍🏼
Couldn’t agree more. Thanks so much for watching

how much was the price? and how much for instalation?

The assembly on this one is very friendly for diy, nice to see some companies are making it simpler for the customer!
Thanks for making the job easier by your good instruction. Love the gazebo.
What a beautiful location with all those lovely trees, I can see why you would want an outdoor area like that to enjoy it.
Great build and review Brent! Thanks for sharing so many tips and tricks, I plan on getting one of these soon.
Great video and great product, I am about to order mine, I just have to finish my paver patio project first.
When he says you need a few to stand up the posts, you need a few people! I learned from that mistake the hard way!
Looks great, wish they had options for high winds.

Wondering the same thing. How does it hold up? im in the upper midwest, is this thing going to look okay after a couple winters?
I have the same one in NJ After 2years it is great looks the same and never has there been one leak

Seem reasonably priced too. Was expecting more.
I thought the same thing when I first checked out their product line. Amazing quality for the price.
@BYOT, what did they supply to anchor down the uprights with? And, does the wood need to be treated at all for weather, or, can it be stained?

How heavy is it.. should I want to anchor it to the ground or is it heavy enough to withstand weather and not blow away.
Excellent video/demonstration, very informative. What is the post base dimension between holes for the metal base.
How did you anchor the posts unto the deck? I live in an area with hurricanes

how did you secure the post to the composite deck board?
