I missed out , never got the chance to see EWF in concert , and other band members are now in music heaven , I can only listen to them on other way's , still have my cd's.
He influences the funk aspects of my bass playing to this day and forever. So grounded, he serves the music while still having a clear identity that shines.
@@DLHerrod that is the most confusing comment I think I've read all year. Verdine recorded and played the bass line for September... not sure what else we can say to you on this.
Back in the 70s, around 1975 or 1976, I was still in high school and I worked at a Days Inn. At that time I was the cashier for the restaurant and gift shop. So one day this group of people came in and checked into the motel/lodge. The front desk was just across from where I stood as the cashier. I felt they looked familiar but couldn't think how. So after a little while one of the guys came and got a deli sandwich and chips and a drink. He was wearing a t shirt with the Spirit album cover on it. As I looked at it and looked at him, it hit me! I was talking to Maurice White from Earth, Wind and Fire! YEAH! I asked him why they were staying there, and he said they had some "down time" and wanted to rest. I thought how cool is this! I never asked him for his autograph and I really wish I would have, especially since he has passed away. I also remember seeing Verdine and Phillip but none of the other guys came down and got anything. But one of the back up singers from the Emotions came down every evening and got a deli sandwich, chips and a drink and stood there ad chatted with me for a few minutes. I old her I was a drummer and had a band and she told me to keep playing and to pursue my dreams. She was very nice. Maurice was nice as well. I would have loved to talk to Verdine and Phillip bailey, but like I say, none of the band ever came back down. I guess a roadie or somebody got them food from local restaurants while they were there. Anyway it was an experience I'll never forget and I am now 65 years old.
Takes me back to my senior year of high school in Detroit when this song came out. They were just churning out hit after hit during that period from '73 to '80. Back when music was real and played and sung by real musicians. God Bless EWF and RIP Maurice White.
The legendary! I Miss maurice white 😢 ewf is my idol since 1989 and i was just in grade 6! My dad influenced me ewf! He always play the cassette tape of ewf.. love you guys! God bless you more and good health...
Tower of Power was pretty fancy too for a funky horn band. Remember Cold Blood with Lydia Pence? They were pioneers at this style of music. Then there's BS&T and CTA. Kinda hard to make the case for "best." They're all awesome.
@@DavyBrown_I usually avoid these comments on pro mixes but to be honest, yes it’s is a crisp and well balanced mix but I do agree with you it’s a bit dry….just a touch of reverb on a parallel bus would do this mix good. But it’s all subjective and this is clearly a top level pro mix to begin with….
They are SO GOOD. I’ve seen them in concert 5 times since 2014 and I never get tired of watching them live. Turning 35 this coming September 21st and I blast this song in the house or car every year on my birthday 🥳
I love this talented group! Fantastic still-after all these years. Thank you for the video! It’s 2024 and I still listen to the “I Am” album often. Saw them live long ago - so so fortunate.
If I was stuck on a deserted island and could only have one song - this would be it. It's the greatest, happiest song of all time. You just can't possibly be down when listening to September.
Saw E.W.&F at the Celaris amphitheater, Atlanta, Georgia 2021. They shared the bill with Santana. They were so very good. You would have thought they were brand new band, not a fifty-year-old group. Still hungry and striving for excellence which they attained was every song they did.
That is so great. The guys are just focusing on playing the tune in the pocket, without having to do the show stuff. Nice to see they can still do that. I love it.
I saw them at the Aquarius Theater in Hollywood taping (I believe) “The Midnight Special” in the 70’s. Took my teenaged children to see them at The Hollywood Bowl in the 2000’s. They introduced and paid tribute to Maurice that night. Memorable performances both. Decades apart and delivering! Undisputed greatness.
Warms my heart watching musicians that are singing. Unlike today it's rare to see mainstream musician who plays music and sing besides blues, metal, rock and jazz.
The sound is still there. I hear in my head Maurice singing this. You can see him do his walk on stage when he did this song. Saw them many years ago. Philip Bailey voice and the guys good
I'm a Virgo born in September so this song is always special to me. The bass line is beautiful and Maurice Whites vocals over the original recording was simply amazing. May he Rest in Eternal Peace. God bless you all EW&F ❤
Watched their two concerts in Manila back in '87 and mid-90s. Reese led the first, though he wasn't in the second anymore. Nevertheless, all of us who were there enjoyed both. They're legends.
Saw them in concert in 2023. They put on a great show. EWF was there through all my growing up years. 64 yrs young and still keep them on my playlist ❤😊
One of my favorite bands ever in my lifetime. At 68, I will never hear such wonderful music and uplifting songs again. The greatest musicians and songwriters in my lifetime that I was blessed to see in concert and purchase their music. A racially diverse group that united our communities with love and passion and respect. God love them all and keep them all in his tight hand as he calls them to his side.
Lot of duplicators but nothing like the originators. The true epitome of what a band should sound like and that’s tight as a bolt in the Brooklyn Bridge. The Elements are unbelievable performing at a high level in their 60’s and 70’s. It definitely keeps me motivated and creative because I’m 64 will be 65 in October.if I stop doing music I’ll die. EWF fans listen to the tune they made call Never. IMO it’s the most underrated song they ever made.
Maurice White had vision, courage and a boatload of talent. He is missed. That’s the way of the World, and September are my favorite EW&F jams. Love them still after 50 yrs. ❤❤❤

My favorite sax man Don Myrick, Louis Satterfield who tutored Verdine on bass but was an awesome horn man and the great Sheldon Reynoldsburg 😢

45 years later and STILL INCREDIBLE. Thank you, EW&F!
Would LOVE to drum just ONE song with them !!!!! Love u all !!!
Amen, the Elements of the Universe,!
Yup! The music is timeless.
The Best😊
MY WORDS EXACTLY !!!!
Verdine White is what so many bass players grew up wanting to be like.
