- My personal Top10 of 90s DOS games published by the shareware powerhouse that was Apogee.
0:00:00 - Intro
0:01:24 - Crystal Caves
0:02:00 - Stargunner
0:03:00 - Wacky Wheels
0:03:51 - Duke Nukem II
0:04:35 - Wolfenstein 3D
0:05:22 - Blake Stone
0:06:05 - Death Rally
0:06:41 - Honorable Mentions
0:07:58 - Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy
0:08:55 - Raptor: Call of the Shadows
0:09:59 - Monster Bash - Ігри
Oh god, Raptor: Call of the Shadows. I'm not exaggerating when I say that every time I start playing it, I always end up playing it through to the end. The primary gameplay loop is just _that good._
edit: now that I think about it, it's been a little while since I played it...
You've heard about the crowdfunding campaign that's planned for a remaster? :D

I had forgotten about Raptor - played it today for the first time in 20+ years. Thanks very much for this video.
Raptor is one of my fav games ever and the music was great,
Im glad to be in there somewhere
Well-deserved! 😁 Looking forward to the Kickstarter. 😊
Major Stryker was an excellent game. Fun and simple game plan.
If I remember correctly, there was a similar game, but with a white, more of an egg shaped, space ship.
That game was also brilliant -as I remember it 😄
Nice video. Brought back a whole lot of nostalgia.
Thanks, that was the idea. :D
man! this is how i spent the mid-90's. Apogee really an Evercade cart.
Aaaahhh Apogee. Apogee was THE above average goodness back in the days. Not great, certainly not bad but always good cozy fun after a long day of school.
Some titles are eally awesome though. Fond memories.
What a fantastic recommendation. Love your style and delivery. Subbed and will go through your other videos.
Monster Bash is one of my favorite games to this day! I got the shareware disk at Media Play which I have fond memories of. I'm glad the game still holds up. Subscribed!
All these memories will be lost, like tears in the rain...
Heck yeah Wacky Wheels
omg hocus pocus was legendary when I was a little boy at my kindergarden. The love one could have for a system access at the age..
What a list. Hitting ALL of the important notes
Thanks ^^
Nice choices - I'm currently trying to play the full version of Monster Bash and man's its tuff! Loved it when I was young and never got to play beyond shareware
Yeah, no joke. Never played through all episodes myself. 😅
Reminded me of games I had totally forgotten about, thank you.
We need an HD remake ala Monster Bash HD for Commander Keen 4-6!
Good list, I'm glad you put Blake Stone here, I played that as a kid, and it was better than Wolf 3D. Loved Raptor, it's still one of my favorite vertical shmups, the VGA graphics are still amazing, and I prefer it over Tyrian. Shame that the shmup community shuns it as a "euroshooter" just because it has an upgrade system. It's an excellent game for anyone, just not the shmup purists 😂
100% agree :D
Wolfenstein 3D actually was developed by id Software and published by Apogee Software. Great video, by the way.
Thanks for the list! It's tough to make a list like this, since some of the games we enjoy and remember fondly aren't necessarily the best games. Like for example Dark Ages, I know it's not particularly good but I enjoyed it so much back in the day and still enjoy the visual aesthetic and MIDI music a lot
Well said! ^^
Warms my heart.
It's true about many games that the childhood memories are far better than actually playing them in this day and age. Skunny: Save Our Pizzas is a prime example of this. But then again there are games that are still enjoyable as an adult. Commander Keen, Monster Bash, Duke Nukem. Excellent list!
Good list. Cheers!
Thanks for making this list. I have just build a new pentium pc with new old stock parts. But I couldn't come up with too many games to play on it other than Doom and Wolfenstein.
This video is missing a lot of Mystic Towers
The ambiance in that game was just so good! And the gameplay is so unique, its probably my second favourite DOS game
I would claim that Blake Stone is the foundation of Half Life.
The Doctors, the aliens, the vending machines, the blue guards, the roof guns... 🤔
I liked Bio Menace because of the artistry of the levels and music, some goes for Keen. Also liked Duke Nukem II.
I used to play the crap out of monster bash.
Scott Host is currently working on a new version in front of Raptor! On my site there is a current, two-part interview with him.
Yeah I heard about that. Going to check out the interview. 😊
3:46 Issues with Frame rate are resolved if you buy the Wacky Wheels HD game on Steam. It runs so smoothly.
Yeah, I've seen that. But I have to say I really didn't like how it looked. I'd rather have the original with a higher frame rate. :D
Nice list! Good news for you, Raptor gets remake! Scott is working in it!
Yeah, I heard about that. Hopefully it will stay true to the general look of the original. I'm excited! ^^
Nice list... although, I normally consider Commander Keen and Wolf 3D to be id Software games when comparing them to others.
I would agree with calling them id games, but I still say they fit on an Apogee list as well, even if they only published those games. 😊
Nice vid my dude. I appreciate channels that cover this era of PC gaming.
Noticed some odd audio issues with the vid though, or is that just me?
Thanks. :) Can you give an example for the audio issues?
@@GoodPunk at 2:04 for example the sound kinda breaks up, noticed it throughout the video
Ah yes, now I remember. I had an issue with the mic that day. 😅 Should be fixed in my newer videos. 😬
Interesting list. My list would have almost certainly included Duke 1 and 2, Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure, and probably Bio Menace.
Yeah I would have loved to put these on the list too. 10 is just not enough. 😅
Apogee for DOS games is like Capcom for console games.
Cool video.. 👍
Thanks 👍😁
I was waiting for you to yell "Get to the choppah!!!Nao!!"
I was waiting for YOU to yell "yeeHAW!"
Nice list. What is the game at the very start of this video? I've been trying to find it for about 30 years.
That's Mystic Tower 😊
@@GoodPunk You are a legend. Thank you.
What's the best way to play Raptor these days?
DosBox I would say
you should check out the Duke Nukem Collection 1 for Evercade. some folks have remastered the game and it looks and plays spectacularly.
Yeah, I've bought the Atomic Edition with the games. They're great. 😍
Wasn’t Jazz Jackrabbit an Apogee game? It would be in the top ten for me. Good choice though.
No, Jazz was published by Epic Megagames... but who knows... maybe I'll do a video about them in the near future. ;)

And here's the Epic MegaGames video... who knows, maybe Jazz Jackrabbit will be in there. ;)
11:20 The HD version looks great, but, its missing the dithering that gave the original game a very nice style
Yeah exactly my thought.
Xargon and Jungle Jill
Wait a second... I thought Wolfenstein 3D was ID Software.
ID Software, but published by Apogee
@@GoodPunk ok thanks. I didn't know.
How is called the game in the intro?
That's Mystic Towers 😊
No not a special kid, i didnt like platformers too when i was younger. Now when i grew older i enjoy the good ones
Thanks. However 4:35 is just Wolfenstein 3D. Castle Wolfenstein is the previous game from 1981.
Yes, thank you for the clarification. I've actually noticed that right after uploading the video and creating the video chapters. 😅
Oh man how could you pick just 10?
Wasn't easy. 😅
I get motion sickness from first person shooter games.
I know that feeling. Can't play anything faster than Starfield these days. 😅
You dont like duke nukem 3d? GGGAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY
What? I ADORE Duke Nukem 3D 😄 I don't like Rise of the Triad though ^^
No Secret Agent.
No Bio Menace
No Cosmo's Cosmic Space Adventure
But crappy Stargunner
What a massive failure of a video.
Nice list, but I would’ve put Zone 66 on it
