What about lake George? This is a great look into our states great spots! I'm in Fishkill, and so glad you mentioned Tarrytown and Coldspring. ,but beacon, Kingston, hudson, well you get where I'm going. The Hudson Valley has too much to mention! I feel lucky to be able to get on the river and visit all these great spots during the warm months. As for the cold weather, no, not so much. I actually love NY, but gosh it's almost impossible to be able to afford to live here!
I also have fond memories of Owego. I lived in Apalachin, another small village nearby. When I lived there in the late 70's we'd spend summer afternoons water-skiing at the park beside the Susquehanna River. A beautiful place. memorable
I was so glad to see Watkins Glen, my home town, on this list. I miss the beauty of the Fibger Lakes area. Thanks for sharing such an interesting list.
Great list. I actually grew up in Owego, NY and it's a pretty nice village. The shops on Lake Street are super charming. I know live in Ithaca, NY but still visit my family in Owego every other weekend and it's still nice to visit.
Thanks so much for this video! I live in Warwick, NY (Orange County) and it’s apple season now. I used to spend many summers at my grandparents summer home in Roscoe, NY (Sullivan County) also known as Trout town USA. We don’t have that place anymore, but have many great memories of how peaceful it was to stay up there.
I still call it the tribirough bridge. And 59th st. Bridge. So, no matter what you call it, Mario deserved the honour, just as Hughes deserved the honour before him.
Lived in Warwick, NY for over 30 yrs, retired husband had medical practice there, raised our four daughters there in the Warwick Valley School District. Most beautiful place on earth in my eyes. We downsized and moved out of state a few years ago, wish we never left.
Also: Youngstown, N. Y. located at the mouth of the Niagara River as it empties into Lake Ontario. 12 miles from Niagara Falls. Pop. about 4,000. On a clear day can see Toronto, Canada across the lake. Great living.
Nice job! I'm from the suburbs of Rochester and I worked in Skaneateles for an internship and I had a friend who I would visit in Penn Yan when he was at his grandparents' cottage on Keuka Lake. Both towns are great! I love rural Upstate!
Great list! I was ready to complain that Owego didn't make the cut, and there it was at No.1! And I wholeheartedly agree, for all the reasons you spoke about. I grew up not far from Owego, and I've been to all the villages you named, even lived in a couple, and your observations are spot on. You have a wonderful channel! I look forward to seeing more!
Been through Owego many times in my 18-wheeler, and have picked up salt in Watkins Glen many times also. The Southern Tier of New York along Interstate 86 is absolutely beautiful. Nice video. Thanks.
Wow. My hometown is ranked as #1. I am from Owego, NY. I do really enjoyed going to Owego as a very beautiful village, especially some really good places to eat there too.
I was born In Medina NY, which is northeast of Buffalo and west of Rochester. Lived there until I was 6 and moved far away to Arkansas to start a new life. I only remember visiting Darien Lake from time to time and lake watching at lake Ontario in Lyndonville. We're planning to move back to the Buffalo area soon, so I'll be able to fully explore my birth home and appreciate it
The locals it Me-die-na. One of my home towns. I lived a mile outside of the town on a farm. Wonderful place to grow up, almost exactly half way between Buffalo and Rochester, so most of the town commutes to one or the other. Medina was a prosperous farming community on the NYS Erie barge canal. Good Jobs are a little hard to find, but housing stock is excellent and reasonably priced.
I live on Long Island and took a trip to Green Port this summer. We took the ferry out to the lighthouse (lots of history) and even had ice cream at the shop in the video at 5:01. Beautiful village!
@@Damone7653 I'm cracking up. I'm a Realtor and every client I get, specifically requests not to look in Brentwood or the surrounding area. If you come back out try Huntington or North Port. They are more similar to Green Port.
These are all so beautiful and interesting villages. I wish when I retire I go and spend a few years in one of those villages, maybe go to local community college to study whatever I want and meet with local people. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for a great ride! Owego is home of the astonishing Riverow Books. I found several interesting towns along the Southern Tier Expressway from Binghamton to Lake Erie -- Corning, Cuba, near Bemus is Jamestown with a wonderful cemetery, Westfield, I couldn't make it to Angelica, but what a nice name for a town. Salamanca has a staggering antiques center.
I live in Marcy, near Utica, and have been to most of these Villages/areas. One common theme you mentioned a lot, is they all have ice cream shops and pizza! It's true they are everywhere. We have a big Italian population in all NY towns and amazing pizza abounds everywhere. And ice cream is so ingrained in my soul that I can't wait for spring/summer to arrive when they open again. My absolute favorite is Perry's Rocky Mountain Raspberry in a fresh made waffle cone!
Yeah, absolutely all of these places have pizzerias. I'm definitely biased towards pizza! And not for nothing, these types of establishments are indicative of heavy foot traffic and sufficient population near the center of these towns.
This is a special video, thanks so much for doing the work.. I teared up a couple times while watching. I am a local, and it filled me with pride & happiness to see my State shown in such a beautiful way!! We are NOT just the urban jungle, and I’m sure glad I KNOW that! Thank you, THANK YOU again for this 😎😎😎
My grandfather owned a hotel in Bolton Landing during the 30s through the 50s and I grew up there. Although Lake George will always be a gem, I suspect my little home town is now a tourist trap.
I was hoping beyond hope that Owego would be #1, and it was!!! My husband works there. While I live in a neighboring area, we just love Owego. Thanks for this lovely overview of smaller NY towns.
Growing up in Upstate New York, I know for certain the charm of these small towns and villages. I’ve seen the World but, my heart will always be in the Fulton, Oswego and Phoenix area. Taxes forced me out but retirement keeps me coming back every summer to cycle and just relax. Nice picks and thank you for the tour.
@@pisces76 Then, you haven’t been to North Carolina. It’s the reason we retired here from forty plus years in Michigan. Pols are never satisfied while you still have a few pennys left.
@@cliffright1142 good luck accessing good healthcare services down in North Carolina. It’s expensive and very inconvenient with long wait times to get seriously ill in North Carolina.
@@pisces76 Are from N.C.? We’ve lived here six years now and my medical care has been outstanding. I seriously don’t know where you get your info but, whomever the source, they sure don’t live in the Triad (Winston -Salem). I just had shoulder surgery and couldn’t be more pleased. I retired from the Navy and have never accessed the VA so, the medical services are second to none.
I moved to the Owego area 6 months ago. I was blessed by the goddesses with a rental “hunting lodge” on a private lake.our road is gravel and potholes. There are chickens, ducks one domestic goose and loads of Canada geese and other wild birds. The little cluster of houses can’t be seen from the main road. It’s so beautiful and quiet. The village of Owego is just as presented: quaint, historic, beautiful and well cared for. People love it here, and the locals are kind and friendly. I will never leave. ❤
I'm in a tiny village called Fleischmanns in Delaware County 6 miles east of Margaretville and 2 miles west of Belleayre Ski Center. Cooperstown is beautiful. Thumbs up. Just subscribed.
How ironic... we live in Binghamton, and I'm scheduled to perform at Owego's Porchfest 2024. Great video, and some places we have been to, but we definitely have to visit the ones we have not.
Love this channel and nice choice of music .My wife and i drove over the Tappan Zee a year ago into Nyack . There is plenty more of New York state we will discover .
We all have our own preferences... I'm very glad to hear that My hometown took the Silver on your list. There's a lot of great scenery in Cooperstown. Council Rock park in the village and Three Mile park on the west side of the lake are by far the best parks in My opinion as they're small and you can really take in the tranquility and peacefulness of your surroundings... I do recommend when visiting you enjoy some apple cider and other good New York products at the nearby Fly Creek Cider Mill. Also, I strongly recommend trying New York's own Byrne Dairy chocolate milk. Available in most grocery stores in the area. Best chocolate milk I have ever had. That being said, be very wary if you are thinking about moving to New York. Everything they say about the bitter cold winters, the horrible snow and the frequent blizzards are absolutely true. It is one of the many, many reasons that I left New York.
Upstate New York native most of my life. You pretty much nailed it. When I heard the number one I thought you said Oswego.. big difference. Also most finger lakes people pronounce it Skinny-atlas. Great job..
Clayton & the 1000 Islands remain among my favorite places on the planet. Don't miss the Antique Boat Museum. You missed East Aurora, a major center of the Arts & Crafts movement with Elbert Hubbard's Roycroft, and once home to President Millard Fillmore. And Mt. Morris, near the magical Letchworth State Park, is one of the prettiest little villages you'll ever set eyes on.
As someone from the Finger Lakes, I'd say these are good choices. I would add Hammondsport, at the foot of Keuka Lake, and East Aurora near Buffalo. And I'd say Geneva (north end of Seneca Lake) and Canandaigua (north end of the lake of the same name) and Geneseo... but probably those towns don't qualify as "villages" by your definition.
It's beautiful there. I am a us master swimmer. I made it just before covid to one of their swim meets❣️❣️. Geneva on Seneca lake. The whole area is beautiful❣️❣️
Ever been to Ithaca? We have state parks, loads of beautiful waterfalls, gorges, many types of dining, Cornell University, Cayuga Lake, farmer's market, science museum/center, Stewart Park right on the lake, there are wine tours in nearby wineries, Ithaca College and much more. Many students who come here for their secondary education, end up staying because they fall in love with Ithaca. Don't let me forget the downtown shopping area "The Commons", with a good sized parking garage very close to the shopping as well as just about any type of food one could wish for. The town of Ithaca is nestled down in a valley surrounded by rolling hills with beautiful wide open countryside beyond those hills, but still close to get to and easy to find. People who like to fish enjoy our lakes, rivers, streams, water falls, gorges, shallow creeks and ponds. Water recreation in summer, along with many great places to hike and camp. Our parks with playgrounds for the kiddies and loads of space to run and play make it clear that we are family oriented. Cornell is a picturesque campus with lovely old stone buildings, more to explore and we have our share of bar and grill set ups, sports bars, but not too many. Also for those who like to go exploring, there are sweet little towns dotted around the countryside, like little treasures tucked away with antiques, craft stores, second hand shops, bake shops, and quaint mom n pop country stores. We can also boast about a sweet little town called Freeville, the only place in the world with that moniker. Fear not there are more than a few places to stay with price ranges for the frugal or well to do. Don't forget a fruit NY state is famous for: Apples! In the fall we celebrate the apple with apple cider, apple pies, cakes and nearly anything apple can be found in and around Ithaca. Be sure to sample our lovely local wines and take a tour of the wineries of which there are several. I could ramble on and on about Tompkins county because I love it here. I moved away when I was in my 20's lived in the south and in the west, visited many other states which were all nice, but there was just no place like New York state, especially Ithaca and the whimsical little villages and towns all around! Come check us out, sometime. I've chosen this area to retire, living out in the countryside and I love it! (I know I have left a lot out, but then again, I could write a book about our wonderful state. If you enjoy winter activities, we have those, too. The only place I am not fond of only because it's a huge city, is NYC, it is just not my cup of cider.)
I hope you'll visit the northern Catskills sometime. Windham and Hunter are nice places to visit. It's mostly hiking and skiing, but a beautiful place.
I'm always interested in learning about New York state villages. Most folks think that New York City is just it. However, there's a lot to see and experience. It's truly amazing. Thanks for sharing this video 📸
I’m from western New York and live in NYC. Why do these villages in New York look so similar? Have you been to the Jamestown area? I can’t believe you didn’t include Chautauqua! It is so beautiful and unique! Take a trip there in the summer and you might just bump into some famous people strolling about. I was a dancer in the ballet company in the 80s and I met many! Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman are (were) patrons of the dance company and their daughter studied at the art school there.
Yes I've been there twice. Here's my adventure, albeit in the fall and winter. ua-cam.com/video/yrYZFS-88o0/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ExploretheNortheast I can't include Chautauqua on the list since it's not a village, but Bemus Point is in the honorable mentions. I knew of fellow music students who did summer programs at the institute. As for village similarity, I tend to notice each state having its unique style of small town, and I wish I knew better about architecture and planning perhaps to know why. I know some if it comes down to street and layout design, hence why the difference between say New York and New England is quite noticeable. Thanks for watching!
My home town. Loved visiting Chautaqua Institution off season (no gate fee). Beautiful area with less snow than Lake Erie lake effect snow. Miss local produce stands & dairy farms welcoming visitors. Hope it's still a charming easy going area.
My father was born and grew up in Sleepy Hollow AKA North Tarrytown! My Grandfather worked for the town and paved the Tapanzee Bridge! I was born in Sleepy Hollow but grew up in the village of Mahopac not too far from Cold Springs! Now I live in Brewster! I love NY! 🙋🏼♀️🇺🇸🙏🏻
So glad they no longer call it N Tarrytown. Sleepy Hollow not only sounds better, but is more historical. Used to live in Brewster also, just off Peach Lake.
@@donjackson5522 Yes me too! My reason is people knew about Tarrytown but not really North Tarrytown! My dad was born and raised there! His mom was a lunch lady!
We have ridden through Owego several times, without having time to stop. It is charming and we will make it a point to stop. Agree with your selections. thank you
Lewiston, should have gotten a much higher rating then some of the other towns. Lewiston sits on the beautiful Niagara River and you see Canada just across the river. It's very close to Lake Ontario and The Niagara Falls which is a spectacular natural wonder. There are countless things to do around the area and the town is lovely.
I loved the information in your video! I wondered if you had checked out Pittsford or Fairport NY villages... so quiant and adorable. Both are on the Erie Canal. Hope you get a chance to review them as well.
Fairport and Pittsford Village great places to visit or live, in the nicer months bicyclist, dog walkers, joggers fill the long Canal path, pontoon boats and kayakers fill the water, many bars, restaurants, coffee and ice cream shops are filled, also summer months live music.
Thank you for such a great and informative video. I live around Syracuse, NY and I want to explore all of these villages and areas that you shared here. Skaneateles and Alexandria Bay are places I have frequented before. I would love to see the sites along the Hudson and on Long Island.
Lewiston NY is a incredible small vibrant historic gorgeous town with a very active community offering so much, located on the Niagara River across from Canada. Top villages in New York State.
I was a bit surprised to see Owego at the top of the list. I live a bit north and drive through frequently on the way to the Catskills. Although there are some impressive homes on the east side of town much of it feels depressed. I've been to most of the towns on your list so Owego took me by surprise.
Thank you for these wonderful NYS highlights. Well done. I live in Dobbs Ferry, not far from Tarrytown. We count ourselves among the truly fortunate to live here.
Very nice indeed as a new york state original living in Virginia for 22 years we are going back to NY state near Syracuse area my son will be driving for pepsi will be great going back to NY and yes most of these nice villages we have visited years ago they are all wonderful especially the Adirondack region just beautiful! Thank you
Skaneateles is on the southern end of the lake . Located on RT 20 . Many celebrities and elites also own homes around the lake. It was an integral part in the underground railroad .. often visited by President Lincoln and Roosevelt's .
As usual, these rankings ignore far western New York. East Aurora, south of Buffalo, is the birthplace of Fisher Price toys and has Vidler's 5&10 store and the Roycroft Inn. Definitely worthy of a top 10 ranking.
Trust me as a long time Rye resident now Chelsea Manhattan I could give a rat's ass about where you live. Especially after the nasty comments all of you frontier people said about my home as we're sitting pretty and didn't have an inch of snow.
Agreed! Every time I make the trip from AZ to NY to visit family in Western NY, I make a trip to East Aurora and always hit the shops on Main Street including Vidler's! Beautiful town!!!
Ithaca is absolutely awesome. It'd be unfair to put that city in the same list as the villages though. I'll do some city countdown in the future. My Ithaca video is one of my highest viewed non-countdown video though, so it seems most people agree. ua-cam.com/video/k2pP8prod6A/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ExploretheNortheast
Great great teaching about Glens Falls New York! I a bronx native unfortunately living in garbage Florida. Im a Bronx native and Our New York State to the city to westchester and long island is beautiful we have everything no reason to ever leave!!!
You good job of highlighting the Charm that the whole state has .to offer. Hopefully folks are listening You even mentioned Cape Vincent, which I appreciate It doesn't has as much to offer as Clayton to the day tripper, I agree, but as a peaceful place place to spend a week or two in the Summer, Well we all have our special places.
We been to Watkins Glenn, Greenpoint, Lake Placid, Clayton, and Owego. We were going to vist Cooperstown but plans changed. Other places I recommend: Bolton Landing, Utica, Rome, Lowsville, Corning, Ithaca, Geneva, Binghampton (the Luma Festival is a must), Finger Lake Wine County, Peekskill.
I lived near watertown ny for 36 years. It's the small towns in NY that make it special if you ask me. I loved Clayton and A-Bay and have been to Lake Placid many times. All 3 are beautiful places in the summer and fall. I have lived in PA for the last 5 years though because NY is just unlivable anymore sadly, but I'd love to visit upstate ny again soon.
I agree with your choices. Now make a video on ten other villages with country appeal, like Pulaski. It, like others, has a very distinct history and it has the Salmon River with the best fishing around. Give it a try.
This was so much fun! Makes me want to check them all out -- even the ones I've already visited. I would add to your list Homer, New York. I think it has the most beautiful houses of any of the villages you mentioned, plus a very vibrant arts scene at the Center for the Arts, which features a continual stream of top-name acts, and the Cortland Repertory Theater in nearby Little York, New York at the head of Little York Lake. The people are incredibly friendly, the schools are excellent, and there are some first-rate restaurants right in the village. I'm sure it deserves mention on your next list!
I spent the first nine years of my life in the little village of Sherrill, NY. It's claim to fame was that it was home to the Oneida Limited Silverware headquarters and was originally a company town.
10 is supposedly named for Pennsylvania Yankee Penn Yan. I love the Finger Lakes region, Im from Elmira just below Watkins Glen. 8 is pronounced Skinny-At-Las. 5 If ya coming north on NNY14 from Horseheads and you want to avoid the mess thru town where 414 comes into town, turn right right before the TOPS plaza and turn left behind it, follow that st till the light and turn right to go north on 414/Walmart or go one more block past the light and turn left to meet 14 again above the 14/414 red light. I was born and raised in Elmira so I know the short cuts. Watkins Glen International is in the town of Dix NY at the top of the hill, orig the track was a 6mile road course. Oct 1947 was the 1st Post WWII race in America, "The Day They Stopped The Trains." If you go to the park, go to the South Entrance, where the Pool is. Its easier to get in and out from that entrance, you only miss one waterfall from that entrance and its an easy walk to get to and continue up the gorge. 1 Owego was a rr town serviced by the Erie (NS active line), Lehigh Valley and DLW (Lackwanna), The DLW & Erie merged to create the EL in the 50s. The DLW line from Owego to Ithaca was the oldest part of the whole DLW system at one time. The DLW old bridge supports can be seen when the river waters are low, Their station and tracks were located where the Owego exit is on Rt17/I86. NYS bought a lot of the old DLW line to build the hwy RT17. The old bridge crossed just west of the road bridge over the hwy and river. Tioga County courthouse in downtown is uniquely placed in its own block. I dont think Ive seen that anywhere else in my travels. I love the antique shop and restaurants nearby that make Chicken Spedies (a must try). Ive seen the Southern Tier region from Bath/Corning to Binghamton in the snow, nothing much unless its a heavy snowfall lol.
My grandparents lived the last few years of their lives in Clayton. Beautiful place. They raised my dad and his siblings in East Aurora, which could easily make this list as well and am surprised it didn't.
Penn Yan, Cold Spring, Tarrytown and the other river towns (Peekskill my favorite), Watkins Glen, Owego (just to the west of me!) 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 I've visited, lived in or worked in all those places at some point or another in my life. Great choices. I want to head up north to the Adirondacks next summer. Can't believe I haven't made it there yet!
Sunday Nov 20 2022 It’s a Cold Night Here In Manhattan NY Your Video Was Very Interesting I’m Looking To Leave The City , I’m Gonna Plan a Visit To Check Out Owego and Tarrytown.
I am biased toward Cooperstown, because I live nearby. Its a small village feel, and closely monitored and watched by town board officials. You will not find any fast food or box stores inside village limits. Chain stores are not welcome. Its for Mom & Pop establishments.
You gotta visit the village of Baldwinsville, on the Seneca River, home of Lock 24. Lots of restaurants and bars, great BBQ, Mexican, steaks at the Fireside and fine dining at Mohegan Manor. Plus NYC style pizza at Sal’s and music at the Amphitheater. Not to mention several nearby golf courses.
My current hometown is number 10, Penn Yan, New York. I was disappointed that you did not mention the nearby college, which is 3 miles outside of the village. In another even smaller village named Cuca Park. The college sits on the lake and has point Nemo where the students have bonfires, and during the late summer and early summer kayak and water board and Just have general fun in the lake. We actually have a small airport and at one point John Travolta wanted to buy property on the lake because he thought he could land his 747 here. Disappointed that he couldn’t, he ended up in a lake near Rochester. Rochester an hour to the west and Syracuse is an hour and 15 minutes to the east so we are blessedly right in the middle of two, quite large cities and there’s a lot of culture and there’s a lot of festivals along with the museums. At the buckwheat festival some years ago, they broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest buckwheat pancake and you showed a photo of the building where they process the buckwheat, and on the side of it was a huge round Sign painted with their name. That was what was used to make the pancake. There have been some notable residence in Penn Yan, the statesman, named Ingersoll, part of Ingersoll Rand, which is now called Dresser Rand, has a museum in Dresden that you mentioned. They used to make boats here in Penn Yan, and many of them are still sought after, and they stopped manufacturing along time ago. We have a boat museum just up the road in the old elementary school and the basket factory which used to be near the college was torn down and the lumber was reused to build a barn which the college now uses as their auditorium for plays and concerts. There was an outdoor amphitheater back in the 1920s and notable people came to Keuka College to give lectures at the Institute. People like Susan B. Anthony. In the 1940s Eleanor Roosevelt came to the college and sat with some of the girls. It was just female at that point and spoke. I believe it baccalaureate. Fast forward to 1963 and Martin Luther King gave the bachelor address. Keuka College hosts an annual lecture series named after its benefactor, Dr. Fribolin. he and his wife Fanny were very interested in current events, and we have strived over the years to have the best speakers who were popular at that time. Our very first speaker was Arthur, Ash, the tennis pro. We have hosted the likes of Carl Sagan, Sandra Van Oher, Koki Roberts, Jim Boeheim, Ben, Carson, Daniel, Patrick Moynihan, very long time, senator of New York State, and many, many others. It’s not unusual to drive through town on a Sunday and see most of the business is closed and many shut down over the winter, there’s just not enough business to keep them staffed during the winter. Real estate on the lake starts around 500,000 and I believe there’s $1 million property for sale at our end of the lake For 1.5 million. There have been others over the last 10 years up to three and $4 million. Another very charming village that deserves honorable mention in my book is Hammondsport. Hammondsport is at the opposite end of the lake from Penn. It’s about a 30 minute drive and you find in the outskirts of Hammondsport just south, the Curtis museum. The Curtis Brothers, who made that very famous flight in the Carolinas in an aircraft, have a very large and very well visited museum. The village of Hammondsport itself is very small. You could probably walk one into the other in about 20 minutes and it is right on the lake. There is the nearest little city park with a caboose right on the lake. And again there’s wineries and there’s breweries up and down the lake. Hammondsport and its neighboring Hamlet of Pleasant Valley, was the home of Taylor wine before Coca-Cola bought it and shut it down. Gold seal, vineyards produced champagne, and there were several other offshoots From the Vineyard. It’s very rich in history and it’s a very quaint little Victorian type village. I have it on good Authority that Whoopi Goldberg owns one of the cottages on this lake and she loans it out to other celebrities like Barbra Streisand, Marsha, Gay, Harding, etc. Marsha‘s mother was the first patient at the hospice house Cuka comfort care home, which opened probably close to 15 years ago now. Paul Newman and his wife, Joanne Woodward were frequent visitors and had a house on the east side of Seneca Lake just north of Watkins Glen. Watkins is only 30 minutes from Penn Yan. The name Penion was derived from the term, Pennsylvania Yankees, and shortened. The footballer, Tony Collins, was from Penion, and for a while, abutting musician named Dwayne Eddy, lived and went to school here.

@@kentdunne1320 What does my comment above have to do with the Tappan Zee Bridge? I was talking about memories at my grandparents summer home.
Lived in Warwick, NY for over 30 yrs, retired husband had medical practice there, raised our four daughters there in the Warwick Valley School District. Most beautiful place on earth in my eyes. We downsized and moved out of state a few years ago, wish we never left.
@meredithmason3197 My grandparents had a place in cooks falls ny on old 17
Ballston Spa!! Lived around there and worked in Saratoga Springs. You can't go wrong with either one of those!
Admittedly I've been gone from the area for decades but is there anything at all in Ballston Spa to "write home about?"
Saying Ballston Spa is absolutely comedical, I'm sorry.
I'd love to visit Skaneateles with its Normal Rockwell vibe.
It’s so sweet to hear that my home village is #1 on this list. Thank you for shedding light on such an amazing town, I miss Owego so much
The meth capital of new york
Nice video. Thanks.
I am sure I passed you on the 86. I have travelled often from downstate to Erie, PA.
Wow. My hometown is ranked as #1. I am from Owego, NY.
I do really enjoyed going to Owego as a very beautiful village, especially some really good places to eat there too.
Wow! I agree that Oswego is awesome. I graduated high school there in 1984.
Bring your snow shovel.
@@hanochcohen2243I’ll bring my snowblower. Much easier
Not Oswego. Owego.
Oneonta major party school.
I was born In Medina NY, which is northeast of Buffalo and west of Rochester. Lived there until I was 6 and moved far away to Arkansas to start a new life. I only remember visiting Darien Lake from time to time and lake watching at lake Ontario in Lyndonville. We're planning to move back to the Buffalo area soon, so I'll be able to fully explore my birth home and appreciate it
is it Me DIE na or Me DEE na ?
The locals it Me-die-na. One of my home towns. I lived a mile outside of the town on a farm. Wonderful place to grow up, almost exactly half way between Buffalo and Rochester, so most of the town commutes to one or the other. Medina was a prosperous farming community on the NYS Erie barge canal. Good Jobs are a little hard to find, but housing stock is excellent and reasonably priced.
Did you make it back this way?
We moved to Port Crane NY six years ago and I also love Owego. It is very cute. And the antique shop is wonderful.
Western New York also has many villages. Everyone from downstate forgets about our side of the state. I did see your honorable mention of Lewiston NY.
I live on Long Island and took a trip to Green Port this summer. We took the ferry out to the lighthouse (lots of history) and even had ice cream at the shop in the video at 5:01. Beautiful village!
I live in Green Port and I took a trip to Brentwood, Long Island... did not think much of it.
@@Damone7653 I'm cracking up. I'm a Realtor and every client I get, specifically requests not to look in Brentwood or the surrounding area. If you come back out try Huntington or North Port. They are more similar to Green Port.
@@fortress1133 Ahhh... Thanks for the tip. Have a great weekend.
Angelica should have been on the list!
I agree, thank you for calling it the Tappan Zee Bridge
Yes, and Owego has Originals Pizza on Lake St and Ice Cream Works on George St.
I live in a small town in central New York. I love it here. Thanks for your charming video😍
This is a special video, thanks so much for doing the work.. I teared up a couple times while watching. I am a local, and it filled me with pride & happiness to see my State shown in such a beautiful way!! We are NOT just the urban jungle, and I’m sure glad I KNOW that! Thank you, THANK YOU again for this 😎😎😎
I'm glad to see how much you enjoy it, and the state. Looks like it's time for a road trip for you, isn't it?
New York has it all!
Lived here most of my life. The Adirondacks are amazing and such a sweet get-away.
However, Woodstock has an amazing fun vibe as well ❤️
Adirondacks are amazing. I especially love Tupper Lake.
@@temperanceawakening7002 My favorite place in the Adirondacks is 8th lake. Best campground I've ever been to
agreed! i have visited woodstock every year for the past 5 or 6 years, i just really enjoy its charm.
My grandfather owned a hotel in Bolton Landing during the 30s through the 50s and I grew up there. Although Lake George will always be a gem, I suspect my little home town is now a tourist trap.
Im in cortland, north of Ithaca and south of Syracuse, we go to the Adirondack’s almost every summer for campinf
Taxes aren't really much cheaper in other places. They get you one way or another.
Thanks! Was in Fleischmanns and Margaretville in February 2018 but my camera wasn't working in the 15 fahrenheit.
Roscoe Downsville 👍
Roscoe Diner...always a good meal, and the trout fishing nearby is renowned!
1. Owego
2. Cooperstown
3. Tarrytown
4. Lake Placid
5. Watkins Glen
6. Clayton
7. Greenport
8. Skaneateles
9. Cold Spring
10. Penn Yann
I knew Watkins Glen would make your list! And you are very correct about the truck traffic, it's crazy! But we go there quite often anyway!
Great job..
It's skan-ee-atlas
Harborfest in Oswego is a wonderful time.
100% agree with Hammondsport and EA. The others are great too.
I like Perry, NY and Silver Lake too.
I grew up in Arden, NY and it hands a population of like 25. I love it with all my heart.
Owego is magical! I live in Endicott and this is my go-to place for a delicious meal, unique shopping experience and enjoyable strolls through town.
Owego!!! My hometown and the greatest place in the world to raise a family. Thanks for thinking of us!
yay! Watkins Glen and Oswego ! Great video!
OWEGO!!! Not Oswego!!!
I did mean Owego 😔
Next time you go to NY check out my home town Canandaigua. I might even be able to give you a tour.
Would love that! Was just back there in July, and have a specific Canandaigua video on this channel!
It's beautiful there. I am a us master swimmer. I made it just before covid to one of their swim meets❣️❣️. Geneva on Seneca lake. The whole area is beautiful❣️❣️
The Finger Lakes area is a beautiful place in the Summer and Fall.
Ithaca is a city.

I hope you'll visit the northern Catskills sometime. Windham and Hunter are nice places to visit. It's mostly hiking and skiing, but a beautiful place.
Don't ski at Hunter. Skiers are out of control. One ran into my mom , broke her arm and kept going

I can't include Chautauqua on the list since it's not a village, but Bemus Point is in the honorable mentions.

Lewiston, should have gotten a much higher rating then some of the other towns.
Lewiston sits on the beautiful Niagara River and you see Canada just across the river.
It's very close to Lake Ontario and The Niagara Falls which is a spectacular natural wonder.

Thank you for such a great and informative video. I live around Syracuse, NY and I want to explore all of these villages and areas that you shared here. Skaneateles and Alexandria Bay are places I have frequented before. I would love to see the sites along the Hudson and on Long Island.
Yeah, the Hudson River between Tarrytown and Beacon are second to none. As well as the section just beneath the Catskill Mountains.

As usual, these rankings ignore far western New York. East Aurora, south of Buffalo, is the birthplace of Fisher Price toys and has Vidler's 5&10 store and the Roycroft Inn. Definitely worthy of a top 10 ranking.

You need to do ones on the small and tiny towns in state of New York.
I agree with your choices. Now make a video on ten other villages with country appeal, like Pulaski. It, like others, has a very distinct history and it has the Salmon River with the best fishing around. Give it a try.
Painted Post represent! I don't know how anyone in their right mind could overlook Painted Post.

Oct 1947 was the 1st Post WWII race in America, "The Day They Stopped The Trains."
If you go to the park, go to the South Entrance, where the Pool is.
East Aurora NY is actually WEST of Aurora, NY ...go figure right?
I've lived in many places across the country but i always come back to beautiful upstate n.y.!

It’s a Cold Night Here In Manhattan NY
Your Video Was Very Interesting I’m Looking To Leave The City , I’m Gonna Plan a Visit To Check Out Owego and Tarrytown.
Don't waste your time on owego. Seriously.
I went to high school in Watkins glen. I absolutely love it and I would move back in a minute if it wasn't in new york state.
If you like Watkins Glen you owe it to yourself to visit Letchworth State Park when Fall approaches.
I used to go to Tarrytown for ham radio festivals back when it was much more rural.
