This is extremely interesting to watch, it clearly gives some insight into how old melee battles transpired. I've seen quite a few knights in these battles go down hard by being blindsided, getting knocked down from behind or from the sides where they can't see the enemy coming. It shows how important sticking to formations were so you could watch out for your buddies and vice versa so you didn't get toppled over.
A lot of folks keep complaining the Japanese aren't wearing Japanese armor and weapons. Consider this, these guys are probably Medieval European enthusiasts who wanted to have a chance at this and would not be interested in wearing Japanese lamelar.
+revolcane Or traditional Japanese armor would be more dangerous than the armor that's tried and true in the sport (which is medieval european-styled steel armored plate). They try with the samurai helmet but it's the most impractical, clumsy looking helmet in Battle of the Nations. Samurai armor was designed for a different style of combat as well, not the clash and grind style of medieval Europe. I say it would be fitting if they all used Samurai face masks with European helmets.
Qu'importe le vainqueur ou le perdant, l'important c'est le code du chevalier et la chevalerie, le code Bushido, l'honneur et la camaraderie. No matter the winner or the loser , the important thing is the code of the knight and chivalry, the Bushido code, honor and camaraderie. Very disapointed to no see Samourai figther stayle for Japan. Long live to BOTN.
They would get torn to shreds. Keep in mind that samurai were nowhere near as heavily armored as European knights in full plate. Katanas would have lots of trouble even denting plate armor, whereas the heavier European swords would make short work of lighter samurai armor.
I see several of the eastern euorpean teams use lamellar, I don't think that particular argument is valid. There area valid reasons for not using nipponese armor, but inablility of lamellar to protect is not one of them as far as I know. Spring steel lamellar is quite protective.
It would be interesting to see, but the outcome would be simply predictable. Lamellar armor and the later plate armor which came out after the medieval European period were less advanced in protection compared to the highest grade custom plate armor. If you can tell, the Russian teams are heavily pole-arm based and for a reason. Those hits would create fatal and harmful blows against lamellar medieval Japanese armor.
creo que el equipo japones necesita un cambio de armamento, el mas bajo con 2 bracamantes, el mas grande con algo tan grande como el quizas una maza grande o un escudo ancho y una estrella del alba asi podria avanzar con todo
but they can easily adapt a samurai-style armor. Replace laquer with modern steel and wear heavy chainmail underneath for example, kind of like Lannister-style armor from GoT.
I just realized the accurate Japanese armor of the right time period would be too light of armor to compete in the Battle of the Nations standards. The Japanese Samurai used Karuta armor, which is much too light to handle the rigors of this sport! lol
I lold so hard hahaha a japanese european knight
