I love the screen brightness of the DSX, think it's a serious contender of choice but owning (and losing ) the shearwater, I believe it's a serious bit of technical kit which is known for reliability and has good customer service. I didn't know actually until I watch your video Benjamin about the surface gradient factor display.
While in Egypt recently I forgot to change the Nitrox content on the Shearwater due to peer pressure to get a move on and I was delighted to find out you can change it on the fly.. Did it on the descent.wonderful dive computer, can't wait to get another.

The GF99 and GF Surface values are so useful! You can see an approximation in real time of how effectively you are off gassing. I've heard some people modify the depth of their safety stop when they see that their current depth just ins't helping as much as they'd like.

Did you select such aggressive GFs on the suunto to match the deco profiles of the other manufacturers?
Wonder why you would choose to dive an aggressive GF high, and then add a safety stop, rather than dive a lower GF high of 60 or 70 and have extended stop times over the shallower depths? Although I know not everyone dives with a pee valve and it’s nice to choose to get out safe sooner if the need is urgent.

Since this wasn't my first deco dive with the Suunto, I was aware that they add an additional margin to all of their computers. One of the nice things they have done for the black was to add the Bullman which removed the potential lock outs that they use in their RGBM2 models. So, yes, to more closely match the other 3 computers, I upped the GF.
Now, as for safety stop. I always add a safety stop to any deco dive, plus a short body deco before I exit the water with all of the extra weight. It's just a good policy and reasonably common.
To check the bubble models for my personal physiology, I also use a personal Doppler after most deco dives to check in on my bubble formations. I do reduce my GF for really cold, long dives as well as higher altitude dives as well. Not by a ton, ie 32-38F 50/80. But, usually, I'll run out of Thermo comfort prior to hitting to much deco obligation. Lol

Hoping for a garmin mk3 in october, it should launch this year since it’s already 3 years since the last one. Do you think mk2i is better the Perdix 2?
I haven't heard any word on a new Garmin MK3 at all and it looks like they are fine standing on their MK2 instead.
As for the Garmin vs Shearwater.
It depends on what you are doing. For diving, the Shearwater is the better computer and has more ability overall. For simpler diving that doesn't involve deco or sm the Garmin is a clear winner
Hello,I have a question. Have you synchronized the Apeks DSX with the transmitter? I'm asking because I synchronized mine, but it doesn't show me the air level in the cylinder at all on the display when I'm on the surface or underwater. I'm wondering why this is happening.
Make sure your transmitter is set to a gas in your gas menu.
1. Main Menu (center button, short push) > Set Menu > Set Gasses
2. Make sure the gas you will be using is programmed to a transmitter.
Note: If using you computer in Sidemount, you can use 2 transmitter at the same time. Make sure to set your computer to Sidemoung mode and program both transmitters to the primary gas.
Also, Make sure you turn off any gas that you are not actually going to dive.

If You go in Deco in the 1st dive, can you dive 2nd time same day? Does mk2 lock or it will allow it ?
You absolutely can, and the duration and depth depends on surface interval as well as the previous dive. All of these dive computers save the tissue saturation information and calculate it over the time of the SI. As a rule, the bigger the deco dive, the less you will want to do repetitive dives (as well as the less you'll be able to).

I live in Germany and dive in cold waters wearing a drysuit. I'm not a technical diver, but I'm looking for a dive computer that will serve me for years. Occasionally, I also dive in warm waters. I dive up to 40 meters.

@@manius_dive the suunto Steele or the Perdix would be great choices for you. You will never out grow them and they are both bright and simple. Pods are easy to set up and have great reliability.
I stated with a Perdix, so o tend to lean that way but use the Suunto for all of my single tank, and twin set cold water dives. I've never had an issue and diving without the need for gas switch, it does a great job!

On the Apeks in Sidemount mode: Do you have GTR calculation from both tanks?
Yes. It also has a notification on the form of a vibration alert to remind you to switch tanks

The GTR calculates the gas remaining from both tanks at the current depth, if you remain at that depth, based on your current gas consumption rate. It does a reasonably decent job of it to,
The two areas to not get excited about are the slates and the gps. The slates are impossible to read during a dive and the gps is a pain to use and you cant add weigh points from the ap.
I like the suunto. Big numbers and not alot of text in screen. I like the minimalistic view
I get that for sure. It is nice and bright as well. I tend to use mine for anything cold water diving, in single or twins when I am wearing an FFM. The Apeks is for my simpler Sidemount diving (anything less than 3 hours) when I am just diving. The Shearwater for ANY time I am teaching Tech in SM or any tech dive over 3 hours:) The Garmin is always just a backup for me, or when I am teaching OW. It is all about understanding each one's strengths :)

I am not a huge fan of the Perigrin because they didn't add some simple functions like a Compass. For viability I would choose the Suunto as well as function. I would encourage though to step up to the Steel though. It isn't that much more, and you can add the Bulmann to it. With the Core, it uses RBBM-2 and if you violate it, it will lock you out for 48 hours, no exception. Wtih the Steel and Bulmann, it takes the lock out function off, plus Bulmann is just a better algo as well :) @@Richard1976

These comparisons are so unstructured and confusing, I can't gain any useful information on which might be better for my situation.
That is really your choice to make and any one of these computers will do what you need, it comes down to how you feel about it. EVERY computer here has highs and lows and those highs appeal to different divers in different ways, so it comes down to personal preference a lot of times. Message us about your time of diving and I would be happy to hit some of the best features of each for you in that specific type of diving. :) But, for these. The only precluding factor for two of these computers is Sidemount. I would only use the Shearwater or the Apeks in Sidemount. After that, I have used all of them in every situation you can imagine and they have all performed well. Those would include: Deep tech, long tech, deep and long tech, ice, night, river, high elevation lakes & rivers, hawaii (shore & boat), warm ocean Florida, and more. For heavy tech I do tend to prefer the Shearwater for its GF99 and for simple, single tank, warm water or teaching the Gamin is awesome since it is a daily.
