    Great comparison video! Have you tryed the new Garmin MK2 scuba interface with big numbers? It was a game changer for me. My vision started to be bad and I was having problems to read the computer underwater and now no more problems. It isn't as pretty and colorful as the regular screen, but it is so much more functional on my opinion. I only did 4 dives after discover this new feature, and didn't see the deco screen yet, but I can definitely recommend anyone to at least, try it.
    To change, go to menu, Activities & Apps (important, the big numbers option is only available when accessing through the Activities & Apps menu. If you go to the regular diving setup, it will not be there!) Then go to single or multi gas, then settings then you turn on big numbers. (to reverse, just do the same and turn big numbers off.) I don't know the minimum firmware update to have it and know it is not available for the MK1. (A chame, it is even more important in the MK1 small screen!)
    I hope you will like it and maybe you could even do a new comparison vídeo using it. I am looking for a new dedicated computer for more serious diving and the Perdix and the DSX are in the top of my list. The Garmin will became my backup computer and travel computer.
    Cheers

      I have, but am not a fan of it. As for a primary dive computer. It really depends on what you are meaning by "serious". If you are heading toward trimix, Perdix edges out the DSX with its SURFGF and GF99 for me. It is easy to teach as well when you start into deeper deco situation.

    Finally, a real review! With Apple entering the recreational diving market and Apeks new DSX monster, I have a feeling Garmin's gearing up an MK3 to rule them all hahaha

    Thanks for this companion. My ratings are in line with yours, mostly because of screen clarity and real estate. Although, I cannot wait for Garmin to release an AMOLED version, which may shake things up a bit. That might be the ideal setup for me if air travel is involved. What was up with the Garmin reading 198ft max depth?

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Рік тому

      That was strange for sure. I think it was a weird glitch and grabbing info from a previous dive.

    These kind of reviews are far better than the get it out of the box and "look! whôw! It's got a strap" comments. I have the wish to get a new computer as a retired instructor. Docs are still valid but after 20 years and having kids now I dont dive that often anymore. Occasional holiday dive and 3 locally averaging to 5 per year. My uwatec terra and sol both have the strap broken for the uncountable-th time, so after 15 years it is time for a new gadget right.
    What would you recommend? I will not invest in a rebreather nor trimix nor any other tech kit, do sometimes use nitrox. Buhlman has served me fine over my 30 year career, no experience with rgbm other than buds that needed to get out of the water before me. Last few years I dove A.I. with the sol, I had kept that afar for years, but I did like AI.
    Peregrine appeals, but no ai, luna2 appeals too but has no reviews. DSX is the underdog I think, or would an eon serve me well recreational diving?
    A drill bit and some bungee is the cheap out option.

      For what you are asking, any one of these 4 would server you very well. For simplicity the Garmin Mk2i or the Suunto Core Black are great.. The Garmin is great since you get to wear it everyday and will get daily use out of it as a data watch too. But for longevity, the Suunto and Shearwater will lead the pack.

    Hi Ben,
    I'm a new diver and still with 25 dives recreational, I bought the Atmos 1 and I find even with that bright screen I have a hard time reading since I'm 60 and need reading glasses, should I go from now to the Perdix or wait for more dives before going for it. Also, how do you resolve the reading glasses issue ? Do these glue on stickers magnifier work ?
    Thank you

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  4 місяці тому +1

      The Atmos dive computer is certainly a smaller screen without Air Integration, which the Perdix certainly has and does a very good job of. Either way you go, adding the inserts to your mask will help you be able to see either MUCH BETTER! The Perdix should be a little easier to read either way you go. I would suggest that you start with the instersts for your mask, then move on to the Perdix.

    Thanks for the comparison! One correction: the brand is called Apeks, not Apex.

    Hello,I have a question. Have you synchronized the Apeks DSX with the transmitter? I'm asking because I synchronized mine, but it doesn't show me the air level in the cylinder at all on the display when I'm on the surface or underwater. I'm wondering why this is happening.

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  3 місяці тому +2

      Make sure your transmitter is set to a gas in your gas menu.
      1. Main Menu (center button, short push) > Set Menu > Set Gasses
      2. Make sure the gas you will be using is programmed to a transmitter.
      Note: If using you computer in Sidemount, you can use 2 transmitter at the same time. Make sure to set your computer to Sidemoung mode and program both transmitters to the primary gas.
      Also, Make sure you turn off any gas that you are not actually going to dive.
      Finally, if you wouldn't mind, make sure to share out to all of your connections a link to our UA-cam Channel and help us grow 🙂

    Did you say the DSX was the winner? You seemed a little noncommittal lol

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  11 місяців тому +2

      I am fairly non-committal on this. lol. Each one has it's ups and downs and strengths. For the most advanced tech diving, I would always choose the shearwater, for simplicity of use and use for most mid level and below tech and regular diving, the DSX. For simple, OW divers that go out a couple times a year and want a computer that they can use at the surface, the MK2i is awesome. So, it really comes down to what you need and like. They all offer nice features.

    • @leighsutton8840

      @TeachMeToDive my motivation is the i770r is a little too conservative but I don't want to have to join a cult and learn a secret handshake to have more control over my computer

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  11 місяців тому

      You might also look at the Suunto Black. It can be set to the Bulm algorithm and gradients added. Overall, it really depends on what type of diving you will be doing and what you need. Shearwater is great computer and has earned it following through hard work, quality and customer service. The new Suunto Steel with Bulman finally turns off the lock out feature when used in the Bulman. The DSX is pretty slick with its ability to anylize Nitrox. So, as you move forward, it is worth asking yourself where you want to go with diving. I will have a review of the new Suunto Black coming soon.

      @@TeachMeToDive this is bang on. I've done 200 dives on my Mk2i in a year, will be 250 by the end of the month, it's failed 3 times, getting the Mk3i from Garmin now, their customer service is exceptional. However, I find it limiting as I'm starting more tech diving and the screen can be challenging to read as I dive looking at my bar/min quite often, which is tiny. The software can also be glitchy. Tomorrow I buy the Shearwater and my Mk3i inbound will become my second device/backup... Great video
