Baggy Trousers name is due to the fact that us working class kids always wore hand me downs from our elder siblings so clothes were usually a few sizes too big. "You'll grow into em' " I remember hearing regularly ;)

Madness are seriously underrated - and I am as guilty as anyone. They know how to have fun, don't take themselves seriously, and sacrifice the perfect for the popular, but they have point to make and they make it beautifully, in their own unique way. We REEEEALLY missed out in the States. "Our House" (1982/US#7, UK#5) was their only hit over here, so most folks think of them as a one-hit-wonder. In the UK they were a Pop institution, with 17 Top10 hits (and more than half of those were in the Top5). They had their patented Circus-Ska "nutty monster sound" but they also had an air of bittersweet nostalgia that ran through the best of their work too, like in this song and in "Our House" where they are remembering a hardscrabble, impoverished, almost Dickensian childhood romantically and wistfully.
You should also react to "My Girl" (1980/UK#3), "House of Fun" (1982/UK#1), "Embarrassment" (1980/UK#4), "Grey Day" (1981/UK#4), and "It Must Be Love" (1981/US#33, UK#4) which actually did crack the US Top40. It was a cover, but they totally made it their own.

    I love Madness!!!
There were a couple of commercials back in the 80s that sampled this for their jingo. It might have been kids products or toys but I distinctly remember the tune and I knew it was from this song.

Oh Baggy Trousers! What an anthem!
This came out when I was 10 years old, growing up in East London. Madness were the first group I had a poster of on my wall! All us kids loved this song! Never saw the video as a kid, only seeing it now as a 50 year old!
Once, on the way to school, I saw Buster Bloodvessel, lead singer of Bad Manners. Maybe you would enjoy Lip Up Fatty!
Or Ghost Town by The Specials. As someone else wrote in the comments, SKA’d for life!
Edit: just saw your reaction video to Ghost Town! That was London in 1981!

This song is completely iconic in the UK, because it just perfectly describes the school experience over here, at least until the mid-'80s when caning was finally ended as a punishment. Kids instantly love it, and you'll get young teenagers singing the song together even though the song came out 40 years ago.

I've got a ticket for their next show in Glasgow. Madness did songs that a first listen to the music sound quite upbeat and catchy. But when you really listen to the lyrics they touched on some serious and dark subjects. Like for eg in Cardiac Arrest.

I don't know anyone who doesn't like this track. An absolute classic in British music.
I went to an amature MMA fight before lockdown in Wolverhampton UK, and all of the walk out music was Grime, Trap or Drill. A fighter had this as his walk out track, and the place went nuts for 30 seconds.
All of these kids ( I'm in my 40's ) jumping up and down to a song that is 40 years old, made me smile. You can hear why people into Rap and Grime appreciate this song.

I saw them again at Festival Hall here in Melbs again in 2017 and we boogied our arses off again. They're soooo good! And my man... you oughta count yourself VERY LUCKY, and I'm VERY jealous, as Madness are touring in the US in April.
