this song is the audio equivalent of that feeling you get when you wake up in the morning after the first night you've spent with someone you have just realized that you're crazy in love with. as you open your eyes & realize that special person is still next to you & a smile starts to grow on your face & your heart swells... that is precisely what this song feels like to me.

You can't go wrong with madness great song. You should react to baggy trousers or love struck or even my girl. So many to choose from. They started out not far from where I live . Madness one of Londons best. Great reaction. Stay safe 😊😊
Such a fan of this band since 1979. This is a great cover version and the band put their own style to it. The Sun And The Rain, Grey Day, Shut Up, Driving In My Car & Tomorrow's Just Another Day are other classic Madness songs.

Great Reaction, as always Jv. :) I'm 67 and like this Group I am a Londoner and yet never really played much of their clever, talented, fun stuff over the decades and it has been my loss. There is no time like the present to make up for lost time and this happens to almost every music fan. It's only recently that I saw Alan Parsons Project (he engineered Dark Side Of The Moon in 1973 ) perform Cirius.Eye In The Sky LIVE. Have I been in a cave ??
I grew up on Madness. I had every album and knew every song off by heart. The tracks that gained commercial success were not their best, this song probably being one of the best of those that did well in the charts. Dont get me wrong i love the successful tracks (including this) but they also did some really gritty, serious stuff on their albums. A side of them that most people are not familiar with.
A pleasant ditty from Madness. The original was good in it's own right as well. As another said on here next Madness recommendation = Night Boat To Cairo.
It was re-released in the early 90s. I listened to it on repeat constantly, as i thought it might give me the courage to approach the 13 year old girl i was madly in love with (i was 12). It didn't. 😢
Another brilliant madness song. A cover but not a carbon copy. They made it their own. 'Wings Of A Dove' next please. A special mention to the influential but vastly underrated artist Labi Siffre who wrote the original. Check out 'Something Inside So Strong' and 'I Got The' which was heavily sampled in Eminem's 'My Name Is'.

Madness are national treasures here in the UK ❤️. Guilty of getting boys onto the dance floor along with The Specials! Have you tried House of Fun and Baggy Trousers? Such great fun songs.
Songs like this are exactly why some folks get bent out of shape over terms like "One Hit Wonder". Just because Madness only had one huge US hit doesn't mean they weren't absolute pop monsters in their time. You're still just getting started, too. Give us some "House of Fun" next, for more of their early, nutty Ska sound. And check out "My Girl" for more of a solid Pop standard. And then you'll be halfway through their biggest hits. :)
@@davelewis8270 Yeah. "Our House" made US#7 in 1983 (and did well on the Rock and Dance charts, too), but it's their only significant US hit. "It Must Be Love" only made it to US#33 and never got a ton of airplay. Nothing else by Madness even cracked the US Top40, though. Ultimately, it does make sense. Madness is VERY British. Their sound, their themes, their accents, and everything. I think that's one of their biggest strengths, but it's not hard to see how it would undercut their appeal outside of UK markets. Sadly, the whole 2Tone Ska thing missed mainstream America, entirely. Sure, some New Wave dance clubs in major cities and some hip college stations gave them play, but Top40 radio? Not at all. The Specials, The Selector, The Beat, etc. didn't even crack the US Hot100. "Mirror in the Bathroom" did chart at US#22 on the dance chart, but that's a specialty market and not a particularly high placement. In the mid-to-late 90s, the US had its own (far inferior) Ska-Punk revival, and the newer wave of acts frequently name-dropped the 2-Tone movement, which helped establish Ska and the Postpunk Ska revival more firmly in the US canon of classics. The New Wave/Postpunk revival of the 00s also helped lend those acts more hipness and legitimacy for US listeners who thought Ska was just bro music for California skate-punks in the 90s.
It's a song by Labi Siffre, an artist in his own right, who plays on the video, dressed in white, sitting down and smiles at the end. The beat is a Madness beat though. Anyone trying to play an electric guitar under water will be electrocuted.
@@vale-y1i You could be right about that song, I watched an interview with him talking about his songs quite a while back so I’ve probably got songs muddled up, it’s my age, what can I say! 😁

They covered it. Labi Siffre wrote the song originally. I still love Madness singing it. A year from now they are coming to the US to do concerts in like 5 cities.
The original version of this song was sung by British singer-songwriter Labi Siffre about a decade or so before this came out. I believe he makes a cameo late in Madness's music video (taking off his sunglasses).
They made a lot of crazy songs, baggy trousers has to be one of their best.😂👍✌. Suggs had a solo album in the 90s that was pretty good - The lone ranger.
Madness are awesome, their music style is very broad though, not only ska. Please check their songs: Embarrassment, Grey Day, Night Boat to Cairo, Shut Up, Tomorrow's (Just another Day), The Sun and the Rain, House of Fun.

'90s third wave ska is gonna be very different, it's way more infused with rock, but still so much fun. I think an essential introduction to it would be the Mighty Mighty Bosstones' "The Impression That I Get" but I might be biased ;)
I'm guessing the stunt is either the backflip into the pool or taking an electric guitar underwater. Also, it's a cover - the original is by Labi Siffre, the smiling chap who you see taking the sunglasses off near the end. So glad to see you watching more Madness - if there's any more to do, "Night Boat to Cairo" and "Wings of a Dove" take them in yet more wonderful directions! It’s definitely the electric guitar underwater. Not a good combination, lol! That’s why it’s Chrissy-Boy who gives the warning at the beginning, because he’s the one that performs it.
If you were a kid of the 80's in the UK, Madness was a big part of it. There wasn't a single kid that didn't love them, or wanted to learn the saxophone because of them. It's so strange that such a lighthearted fun band could have such a big influence on British culture, but they did. I think it's also the reason why they didn't break America, because at the time 80's America was all about looking cool and showing off. Madness had that self depreciating British trait of not taking themselves too seriously, which I think was a bit of an alien concept in Ronald Reagan's America.
As a teen in the US in the 80's I loved Madness, sadly I only knew the few songs that they played on MTV but I always thought it was weird that they weren't bigger. I was definitely a bigger fan of British artists - ABC, Spandau Ballet, Madness, Duran Duran....Loved them all and more!
