- This was pulled from the UNC-TV Website. I own no rights to this and am simply sharing a wonderful interview with a wonderful musician. :D
From UNC-TV:
Program: NC People
Episode: James Taylor, Singer-Songwriter
James Taylor is another beloved North Carolina musician that always loved coming home to Chapel Hill. We caught him on tour in Chapel Hill to tape this interview. It originally aired on March 8, 1993.
Watching this in June of 2023! My wife and I (both North Carolinians) are seeing him for the first time this week! We are both 30 - his music transcends time!
I think this may be one of the best interviews of James I've ever seen. They both have a similar rhythm and a mutual respect. Maybe because they're both Carolinian. Very easy to watch. James was so comfy in his "landscape" :)
One of the underrated things I've loved about James besides him being my favorite musical singer songwriter is his vocabulary in general. For a guy who was a drop out has an incredible vocabulary
Agreed.
You know I could feel it on a country road
I can feel it in nature.
The it,
is a connection with the creator of nature.
Wow was he spot on in 1993 feeling that the world was in a transformation; big changes in how humans organize, global communication... like he predicted this digital age of electronics and computers...
genius always finds its way.
This is so good!!!!
Hard to believe I grew up just miles away from him when he grew up in N.C. I always used to tell people he wrote Carolina in My Mind about me! We are the same age and I lived in Charlotte near Chapel Hill.
He’s an intelligent man and probably a genius level. His interviews in the early years of his career seemed like he couldn’t put sentences together and it looked as if the interviewer had to pull conversation out of him. It had to have been the drugs! So glad he’s been clean for a long time now. I know he is too.
We love you baldy!!! Keep on rockin' JT!
His song ''Country Road'' brought strong to mind those places where each of us claim a sense of being in our own home towns. Certainly for me and the many fellow paratroopers @ Ft. Bragg it did.
