I have a weird headcannon that the dawnguard dlc just made the dragonborn more observant to the traits of vampires, and that they aren't so obvious to everyone else. I mean you spend so much time killing and being around vampires you'd learn.
Well only the dawn guard and the dragon born actually know what they are. Not everyone that goes to the blue palace knows the wizard is a vampire but I’d say some of the staff do
Yeah, a very important thing is, they're active loggers. They don't just pretend, but actually fell trees and cut wood. They even sell wood to the dragonborn.
@@emrek99205playing vampire’s advocate here, but, Falkreath may just need high quantities of wood, more than what they can provide with limited workers during the war. Not only are all of the houses made of wood, but all of the utensils, tools, etc, are also made of wood. It could also be an effort on Falkreath’s part to avoid cutting down their entire forest. Not saying I’m right, just spitting out the possibility 😊
I like the theory that the Dragonborn can see past any illusion vampire's may cast over themselves, like a concept of 'Seeing into their hearts.' When you listen to the Priest Heimskr in Whiterun he says, "In mortal life, Talos was a Nord possessed of unmatched tactical skill, limitless wisdom, and the power to see into men's hearts. Talos mastered the power of the Voice, and with it he united the lands of men into a great Empire." He was a Dragonborn like the player before he become a man-god and was powerful enough of a leader to be the first to unite all of Tamriel. Meanwhile in oblivion we learn about The Septim bloodline and the dragon blood that flows within it, during the tutorial of the game you will get dialog from a Blades agent called Baurus stating, "Strange. He saw something in you. Trusted you. They say it's the Dragon Blood, that flows through the veins of every Septim. They see more than lesser men. The Amulet of Kings is a sacred symbol of the Empire. Most people think of the Red Dragon Crown, but that's just jewelry. The Amulet has power. Only a true heir of the Blood can wear it, they say. He must have given it to you for a reason. Did he say why?" The Dragon Blood with the Septim bloodline apparently allows them to "see" more than lesser men. Both these instances of in game dialog related to Dragonborns or those with Dragon Blood, could lead you to believe that either the Dragonborn has a vastly superior sense of perception or they can almost literally see right through you in a sense. Something about being granted the dragon blood could maybe explain seeing through their "disguise" whereas other people may not! :D (Or it's likely that Bethesda just let them slide in the update who knows LOL)
As long as they keep the logging up and don't go crazy on innocent travellers, I'll let them live in that mill. And if not, well, I have a house right a round the corner and might pay them a visit in the name of Sithis instead of Zenithar.
I know the implication of Hert and Hern is that they’re just pretending to be innocent loggers to get an easy supply of travellers to feast on, and obviously they aren’t above snacking on a few of them given the contents of their shed, but I find it infinitely more interesting and entertaining to think that they actually do enjoy this lifestyle and actively want to just be loggers. 😅 Obviously there is a self-servicing element of blending into society to avoid detection and thus carry on killing innocents unsuspected, but I really do prefer the idea that unlike the rest of their kind, they don’t want to be the kind of vampires who sulk away in lairs with legions of thralls but just want a normal life. That actually, their main motivation for setting up Half Moon Mill was because they wanted to carry on their mortal lives as much as possible, that they actually do find joy and contentment in the simple life rather than being lords of the night. Especially in TES where vampires are either power seekers like Harkon or the kind of bloodthirsty killers who dwell in dens and lairs across the country, finding two, normal, well adjusted, outwardly friendly and pleasant vampires who stay in the sun all day is a refreshing change. It’s an oddly wholesome relationship of two souls bound for eternity yet preferring to be simple lumberjacks as opposed to anything more. (Again, so long as you ignore all the bodies in the shed. 😂)
@@carmelopappalardo8477 Well, we don’t know who they are. 🤷🏻♂️ If you wanted to run with my “Hert & Hern are just innocent loggers, they dindu nuffin” theory, the idea they only attacked bandits and people harmful to Falkreath’s citizens would fit very well with that and doesn’t contradict anything explicitly that we know… But c’mon, the very obvious implication is that they feed on innocent travellers who happen by their mill every so often when none of the guards are around. 😂
Or maybe they're clever enough to know vampiric dens are usually too far from roads and in case of danger caves are the first place to be investigated.
I don't think they changed Alva's appearance with the Dawnguard dlc, maybe vampires who recently fed look normal while starved vampires have more vampiric features. That's how it worked in oblivion.
@conner8319 I think it would be more reasonable for the vampires to just have reflective pupils like various predators. I wonder if Hert and Hern came into contact with the Companions at some point and that explains the book, seeing as Skyrim has a tone of cut content and last minute changes maybe the Companions quest to take them out was swapped to the Brotherhood.
I try not to judge them too harshly. It seems apparent that they do wish to lead relatively normal lives within society, even if they have to keep a distance from larger populations. And since they are vampires, they do have to feed or else they will more or less "die." I have always suspected that they probably feed on bandits or thieves, seeing as bandits are quite numerous in the wilds of Skyrim. And if that is correct, we can hardly condemn them, since as the player go on slaughtering sprees every time we cross a bandit camp. And some of us soul trap as many as we can, which is arguably far more cruel than merely killing them with a weapon or by bleeding them dry. So, all in all, I typically leave them in peace, being friendly with them whenever I happen to travel through their little settlement. I only ever become antagonistic when I have to, when playing through the Dark Brotherhood questline.
When you talk to Sinding he does mention working for a lumber mill briefly. I think it is a subtle reference to Half Moon Mill. It is also like that he doesn’t want to elaborate on it, a bit evasive on the reason why he left employment there. His impulses could have made the owners of that mill more concerned about discovery. So he was asked to leave.
Think he's specifically refering to the mill within the city of Falkreath itself. He doesn't mentioned "leaving" the mill, but just that he thought working at the mill was something safe for him to do until he transformed and killed the daughter of the farmers in the city

This secret was much more interesting to stumble onto before all the vampires had glowing eyes. These two used to just look like anybody else, but now you can spot a vampire from two cities away.
A couple of things: there are a few tree trunks just sitting in the stream. Perhaps they are playing the role of lumberjacks? Also what if they are like Dexter and only hunt and feed on malicious men and mer? Food for thought 😅
Fizhy is definitely my favourite gaming mystery UA-camr ever since I saw his red dead vids years ago. Good to see you exploring different games you're a good bloke.

skyrim videos always hit, but im especially enjoying these longer niche videos. even if there is no mind blowing answer to a question i love that you are investigating interesting topics as much as possible
Werewolves have a proclivity for regeneration. It is possible that they wished to somehow capture one and feed off of one person repeatedly without killing. That would be covered in the book. If the mill Sindig worked at in passing was indeed Half-moon Mill and that he escaped after a failed imprisonment that might explain who put the contract out on them.
I think they have a book on lycanthropy because the only people who can rival the vampires of skyrim (as far as their arrogance allows them to see) is werewolves. they believe that no humans/elves can come close to defeating them so the only real threat is werewolves even if they rarely meet them. there is a werewolf in falkreath's jail afterall.

To me the Werewolves thing seems more like "To a Vampire, a Werewolf is one of the few singular threats, so it is best to know what you can about them to aid in dealing with them if they show up" kind of thing than anything more specific than that.

Apparently Alva doesn't have the Vampire race for some reason, but was still given vampire abilities and weaknesses. Might be why her eyes stayed normal
Dawnguard writing a list of vampires to hunt be like “hurn, alva, sybille-“ “oh Alva’s not a vampire, she just did that” “what?””yeah she called it her goth arc or something”
Maybe the point of the book is an attempt to spot werewolves in human form, since you become a werewolf by drinking the blood of one they could just be trying to avoid accidentally becoming one.
Well, until the Dragonborn came along, the only real threats to these two were the Companions - who are mostly werewolves, Arnbjorn, a werewolf, and the Dawnguard, which is new to Skyrim and has no issue with recruiting werewolves. I think they were studying werewolves because werewolves are definitely the greatest threats to them.
I think what confirms their evil nature is the fact that their prey is dead. We know from Castle Volkihar and becoming a vampire ourselves, even a blood-starved vampire doesnt need so much blood that it would kill whoever they drank from. Admittedly, the examples of vampires who dont kill their prey mostly only do so because of Harkons rules against killing the thralls, but it confirms that if Hert and Hern wanted to, they could probably figure out a way to survive without killing. Maybe they get a couple of thralls, or maybe they set up a toll road. That last one might admittedly not go well for them, but im not saying it would go well, im just saying they have options.
My theory: in addition to being vampires they are also swingers and into publicly indecent... Escapades. They're a couple obsessed with having guests and hate the guards.
My first time interacting with the woman went as follows... 'Wait, are you a vampire? No, that can't be right. Your outside and its the middle of the day. Plus, you're too nice to be a vampire.' Later that playthrough I'm doing the Dark Brotherhood and get the mission to kill the woman's husband. 'OH! She is a vampire! I was right the first. Always trust your gut instinct. Well now I feel bad. She's so nice and I have to kill her husband.'
My guess of why the Dragonborn can see the glowing eyes and all is because his soul was modified by Akatosh itself, making him technically some kind of divine being or at least the product of direct divine interference. That's why the Daedra Princes also speak with him more openly than their loyal followers. The Dragonborn is just THAT kind of attuned with the supernatural.
I remember running into this location at night and wondering why the two were still outside logging in the middle of the night. I did some investigating and found out they were vampires. It was an awesome moment in the game just. Like an unmarked mini quest. I feel the DLC really messes with this, unfortunately.
Thinking back to all the hours wasted in Skyrim I realise... There just isn't enough villages/cities. There's actually so little in the game. A whole country, a whole ass country and there's like what, 15+ MAYBE settlements? I always wanted more, but I understand the limitations they had at the time.
About the book you know that falkreath has a known Werewolf Problem and Vampires and werewolfs are not going along very well Soo knowing whats good against lycans is quiet smart which is what you would expect from hundred year old Vampires I have to say nazirs voice is damn good
3:31 I liked how they looked before. If I ever play skyrim on a pc instead of my nintendo, ill want to find a mod that makes them look like how they did before the dawnguard dlc Edit: changed a 8 for a letter I
Isn’t it in the dark brotherhood rules that once you face off against an assassin and win they won’t send another after you? I’m not sure if I’m remembering that correctly.
It's possible they're happy the sun is gone simply because they have friends, or family of some kind who Are affected by the sun. So now they can visit the logging mill and be together, or some vampire buddies can go work there. Set up a small sort of vampire only logging business, like the small little mining colonies for the mines that aren't particularly close to any main holds, so they're rather small. But still got a couple families there
My thought about that book under the bed was that they like to read about werewolf torture before bed cause their vampires and werewolves are their foes
I shit you not this video dropped while I am killing time waiting for everyone in my VtM group to get online, lol Also, I am one half of a couple named Tim & Kim, but I also knew a pair of twins named Aaron and Orrin, sooo......

Hey boss, I love the content, but be careful not to strain or overwork yourself. Excellent video, though, as always. 😊
Not to worry, I'm off abroad for a couple days to reset now that I've sweated out like 4 in a week.
@Fizhy glad to hear you're taking time for yourself boss.
My first time interacting with the woman went as follows...
'Wait, are you a vampire? No, that can't be right. Your outside and its the middle of the day. Plus, you're too nice to be a vampire.'
Later that playthrough I'm doing the Dark Brotherhood and get the mission to kill the woman's husband.
'OH! She is a vampire! I was right the first. Always trust your gut instinct. Well now I feel bad. She's so nice and I have to kill her husband.'
that music immediately made me want to start a new run lol
babe wake up, new skyrim lore vid just dropped
They might hunt werewolf’s? Explains the hunting but I’m not sure they can drink werewolf blood
These are good, keep em coming 🫶
Hmm I wonder how they treat you if you are a vampire or if there is any acknowledgement at all?
Thinking back to all the hours wasted in Skyrim I realise... There just isn't enough villages/cities. There's actually so little in the game. A whole country, a whole ass country and there's like what, 15+ MAYBE settlements?
I always wanted more, but I understand the limitations they had at the time.
Well no shit their villages… not 2024 cities
The capital is hardly a city itself
It's for game reasons. There'd be way too much stuff if every village etc was realistically sized. This is true of ALL games.
About the book you know that falkreath has a known Werewolf Problem and Vampires and werewolfs are not going along very well
Soo knowing whats good against lycans is quiet smart which is what you would expect from hundred year old Vampires
I have to say nazirs voice is damn good
They made that dark elf look like a snow elf
Keep up the skyrim videos man. Maybe you could make one about fallout 4?
3:31 I liked how they looked before. If I ever play skyrim on a pc instead of my nintendo, ill want to find a mod that makes them look like how they did before the dawnguard dlc
Edit: changed a 8 for a letter I
I always love going to that place.
You should do one explaining the redwater den next
I just stumbled upon a Treasure of a channel it seems ❤
Another awesome video, enjoy your trip to germany
Whenever I see her first I can't help but think about the meme from the boys you know the Starlight one
But still got a couple families there
Thank you for sharing 😊 skyrim forever ❤❤❤❤
My thought about that book under the bed was that they like to read about werewolf torture before bed cause their vampires and werewolves are their foes
Pre notification, let's goooooo.
I shit you not this video dropped while I am killing time waiting for everyone in my VtM group to get online, lol
Also, I am one half of a couple named Tim & Kim, but I also knew a pair of twins named Aaron and Orrin, sooo......
Why is your voice so perfect for elder scrolls?
Damn ANOTHER video?!? delicious 🍽️😋
Good video as always
It came out 2 minutes ago💀
2:58 she looks more like an orc to me then a nord. The facial features look like it’s a grey skin orc. I always thought she was some elf or Breton, but not a nord
She..looks nord tho
Yippee! keep em coming man
