The UNDISPUTED GREATEST Update We'll Ever Have - Sea of Thieves
Today, we're talking about the absolute fan favourite and undisputed GOAT of Sea of Thieves. It added 9 Tall Tales, the Arena, Fishing, More Merrick, Harpoons and other improvements to the game as a whole.
I'm of course talking about the greatest Sea of Thieves update, Anniversary. This time I'm mixing in some opinion with fact and unfortunately, there's no debate with this one.
There's only one thing that'll beat it, and it's Season 84 with the Captaincy Update. You know it's coming soon.

Anniversary made this game amazing. I’d give my peg leg to go back to this and play and for the first time over. Arena before it died, the Hunter’s Call (undisputed best faction), and the Tall Tales were some of the best updates ever.
"Shores of gold is better for the pacing"
The most frustrating thing for me is how they create new stories or themes and then abandon them for a new method. Just like they abandoned the tall tales, they had a burst of events, and now they've moved on to the adventures. I can appreciate they're trying to see what works best, but I feel like so much has been left open ended for so long now...
Part of me is glad that they release smaller updates more often, with slighter larger ones here n there (pirates life, and now adventures. Plus a big one coming up) instead of a massive update once a year or so. I'm one of those people that likes to binge watch a show occasionally, but then I've got nothing for a long time. Whereas watching a show weekly gives you something to look forward to, while gratifying you as well. But not getting worn out too quickly.

Man were those tall tale are joy it's the reason the shore of gold is my profile picture. I remeber me and my friends and no idea how to get there when we were new. We would sail there without the shroudbreaker after many many failed attempts we gave up. Months later we start doing tall tale and it's all clicks together. This is how we get to the island we all wanted to see. We played for days trying to figure them out and we finished them. The first time sailing there we all had goosebumps . This was a another level of anticipation for us
The tonal shift with the song becalmed going from the song you would use to give a faithful ship a rousing sendoff, to this relaxing ethereal melody that whisks away all of your cares in the world to the very deep and emotional sendoff of an amazing coworker with the actual lyrical version they displayed with glitterbeard is exactly why this is one of my favorite games of all time. Also the shores of gold tall tale is my crack and i love to go back just to hear that song just one more time. It is also a great tool against people who don't invest the time to do the tall tales. The shining star is hands down the Shroudbroken song that plays when you finally make it all the way through.
The becalmed at the end of shores of gold is beautiful. Unfortunately, as much as I loved sea of thieves at the the time, I never finished playing through the shores of gold tall tales when the update dropped and only did the first 2 on release. Finally got round to it a couple weeks after pirates life and due to the decrease in gameplay-wise quality when compared to recent tall tales, I didn't get that same magical experience. One of my most regretful sea of thieves moments haha, along with logging just too late to get the day 1 eyepatch and not buying the golden sailor cannons. Still adore anniversary for everything it added and expanded. Looking forward to xbox showcase as well, maybe rare will finally give us c.. ca.. cap.. cap..
They might do something like this like introduce a new “Region of the Damned” at 5 years or something
Harpoons were so broken when they launched, I recall my crew hoisting our galleon high up many a rock or island peak. Imaginge what we could do with the new pirates life gateways…
Even though i played this game for a pretty long time i still didnt do the shores of gold tall tales because of that one time i did one and it was tedious as hell
A bit disappointing that after all this time we still haven’t gotten any update that’s better than the anniversary update. Hopefully we get a new shrouded spoils update that can improve on some anniversary update features, harpoon cosmetics, improved cooking with seasoning, new fish and treacherous plunder to fish up and monster hunting voyages for the hunters call. Maybe include the 2 arena fishing rods that we are still missing...ffs

I first started playing a few months after the Anniversary, and experiencing the game in that state versus how it was pre-anniversary patch is probably responsible for why I still play SoT as much as I do. I have a hard time even conceptualizing a sailing-based game without fishing, and the PvE content must have been mind-numbingly stale without Tall Tales to break the monotony, especially considering most of the more replayable voyages have been added much more recently.
It feels sweet, and weird, that Anniversery was so long ago
