    Social media has normalized adults acting like toddlers in public. And I'm not talking about the crying. I'm talking about having zero regard for anyone around them. Being disruptive and rude and obnoxious for attention. And believing that they are entitled to behave however they want and everyone else can just deal with it.

    the one thing i hated about theatre kids is that they usually have a huge ego. so they feel like they have to sing all day everyday to make sure everyone knows they can sing. so the singing during the movie doesn’t surprise me. i’ve had people break out in song randomly in art class cuz they can sing. it’s so weird.
    UPDATE: i’m not saying every theatre kid is like this but in every scenario there is at least a few! And it ruins it for everyone else that actually enjoys theatre and doesn’t want to fuel their ego. I love theatre and i love the Wicked movie. it was brilliant. But i know there is a time and a place to sing. it’s common sense.

      I was a theatre kid in high school. I LOVED theatre culture and HATED it in equal measure. The singing is fun if you and a bunch of your friends can actually sing - going and doing karaoke, going and seeing their bands play, etc is a blast.... but you're definitely not wrong about the appropriateness of the venue. There were a *LOT* of those people, who think singing loudly in public is not only fine, but makes them look cool.
      Theatre is simultaneously one of my favorite memories and often one of my cringiest.

      The Wizard of Oz is my favorite film since age 4. I read Wicked, then saw the play (twice). The only thing I didn't like about the play was the ending, which felt shoe-horned and forced to tie into the original inspirational source. It didn't make sense, compared to the ending of the novel (Wicked). I went in knowing full-well that Wicked was a "how did she get here?" origin story, not cannon at all. Although, if I may, technically the 1939 film isn't either, being an adaptation in itself.

    • @wrexvincent
      @wrexvincent 6 днів тому +3

      So glad you brought this up. Even the original musical with Judy Garland isn't close to canon but it isn't the fanfiction that 'Wicked' is. Closest media I found for canon is Return to Oz and even then that is a mashup of two books (2nd Book 'Land of Oz' from 1904 and 3rd book 'Ozma of Oz' of 1907).
      People in my life know I am weirdly attached to Frank L Baum stories (I wore a Dorothy costume exclusively from ages 3-6 and my graduation party from uni was Oz themed, I went into a disseration of the political messages in the Oz books as they occurred in 1900s United States, etc) and the amount of people telling me 'facts' from Wicked makes me bite my tongue so hard to not be mean.

    I dont think the fans were upset that the movie poster didn't look the same as the poster from the stage show. They just decided to have a little fun with photoshop and did some light hearted editing to make the new poster resemble the original....it's just a way to pass the time and be slightly creative. It was Cynthia Erivo, that made a huge deal of it and acted like the fans had done something awful by daring to hide her eyes in shadow.

    I actually currently work at the theater, we’ve had to go in before to stop a few people from screaming and singing when customers complain. However, there’s a point at which if too many people are signing, there’s nothing we can do.
    I remember seeing the movie after getting off of my shift, went to go see it with my ma and pa. We had this one lady who would NOT stop screaming every five seconds, laughing at nothing, and just being awful. Took me a second to realize it was just me, my family, and the ladies family in the theater. I was ready to go get up and report it (keep in mind, this was after my shift, so I’m still in theater uniform, could’ve asked them to stop myself technically…didn’t wanna be rude though.) however, upon further inspection, the lady looked awfully similar to one of my managers. That was…not something I was willing to risk, the awkward conversation of me reporting my manager in the theater…sooo…I sucked it up. It wasn’t till the very end that I realized it wasn’t one of my managers. So..I got to spend almost 3 hours with a lady laughing her ass off for no reason, screaming “YES!” And more…not fun…movie was ok in my opinion.

Presumably, the problem with them is it was original and fantasy-filled and not abjectly narcissistic and reading books is really hard. So we got a two-part musical movie... that was degenerate to a play that was degenerate to a single book that wasn't written by a theater director... for people to sing along to and cry at because they see and need to "be seen" having their own narcissistic insecurities reflected back at them.

    Then, Captain America shows up in the train station. Everyone was so excited (I didn't really care), but then this kid stood up and started screaming his lungs out right in front of my face. I've had enough. I grabbed him by the shoulders and screamed back "JESUS CHRIST, STFU!".
    After that, he calmed down, and actually enjoyed the rest of the movie, as the rest of us did. He didn't took it the wrong way, and I was glad because I didn't want to ruin his experience, despite him almost ruining mine.

Technically speaking neither term is inherently wrong to use, outside of whatever personal opinion or perspective that individual takes.
