We recently had this happen on our way from Chicago to Las Vegas. Our luggage arrived at Las Vegas earlier than we did (I don’t know why), and at first we thought it had been delayed or lost as it wasn’t on the belt with other luggage. We were about to go to claims when we saw our lone suitcase, sitting alone at the head of the turnstiles in the middle of the aisle, with a lone sign with the flight number. Anyone could have claimed it; it wasn’t being watched over, and if memory serves, it would have been free sailing out the door.
