Instead of using the matt spitter try using DRY Corn Starch on the matts. They will brush right out then bathe.

Your videos helped me out so much last year when I had no idea I was brushing my baby girl the wrong way. I would find matts here and there. Then I would have to get her hair cut low. I don’t like that look on my Goldendoodle. Today I brush her every two days with that be coat king and comb. Most days I just use the comb to make sure no knots and finish with the brush to make her more fluffy. I love my dogs hair long, so it is very important to me that I take care of it the right way for her

Just a reminder to novices, HOLD THE HAIR so that there is slack between your fingers and where the follicles are rooted. Between your fingers (pinching the hair) and the ends, you can pull a bit. Pulling without breaking the tension to the root will cause major discomfort. Dogs have millions of follicles per square inch depending on the breed. And some dogs have very long down hairs. One pluck for us is like ripping out part of your scalp for dogs. Also, if mats are especially thick, use a metal tooth comb to stab through the dreadlocks while shampooing. Don't go to heavy with shampoo as some can cause skin irritation in dogs who's skin hasn't had a breath of fresh air in a while.

I need that tool. I've been using scissors to slice / cut the mat in sections lengthwise and then use a ferminator to work and drag the mat out. I also use a small ferminator on the eyes area to remove the gunk. Works like a charm. Sometimes I can just tug and pull upwards and out, basically dissecting the mat and breaking free the knot and pull the mat out without losing any hair but it's time-consuming.

I’ve heard that grooming severely matted ears can cause the dogs to do a lot of head shaking when they’re finally taken care of, because sometimes the matting is so bad it cuts off circulation to the ears, and when the matting is cleared out the return of blood flow feels weird and they shake their heads a lot and put themselves at risk of causing a hematoma. Have you ever had this kind of thing happen?

My mom needs one of these for her doodles. She has 4 doodles because her two adults had puppies and she kept two of the puppies. She gave me one, and I do all the grooming at home. I prefer to keep her coat short, I brush her every other day because it’s nice and short. Every two months I give her a full haircut and a bath beforehand but every two weeks I trim her in the places that need touch ups (her paws, butt, face, and vulva because she gets pee on her fur) and luckily she has no mats ever and is nice and clean (well as clean as a 7 month old puppy can be lol) but omfg, my mom’s dogs are so matted and dirty and long haired. Every time I see photos I can just smell the stink from my phone. 😢

As a professional dog groomer, I’m begging you don’t listen to this. The very first thing she tells you is wrong. NEVER bathe a dog without dematting first. The water will set the mat and make it harder to get out. Never use a demat rake on the ear fur. If you mess up, ear skin tears easily and will bleed all over the place. Instead, demat using a 10blade on a clipper and shave the matting off. This will help you avoid putting your dog in unnecessary pain and discomfort just for your own amusement of him looking cute. You can avoid matting by brushing your dog every day like you’re supposed to. If you don’t want to brush your dog every day, get a breed with short hair like a lab or pit bull. STOP NEGLECTING YOUR DOGS AND LETTING THEM GET MATTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. ❤
