    I always try to avoid shaving, as a groomer,. Try warm 100%pure coconut oil.make sure its.warm..massage into mat first before brushing. It's so good for their skin and hair too!

      I never shave mats out - and never shave all their hair off. I just shave under their forearms to avoid them matting there. I just use some of my Cream Rinse mixed with water for really stubborn mats. Works well. Thanks for the information tho. I appreciate it.

      I wish there were groomers around where I live. 2 times to 2 different 5 star groomers. The first time I didn't even recognize my pup when they brought him out until I looked in his eyes. The second time I specified DO NOT SHAVE MY DOG. She handed him back and I started crying. Shaved him down to skin.

      Do you use the coconut oil/conditioner before or after brushing out the mats?

      My groomer shaved my Morkie bald because she said there were mats of hair. She looked nothing like this dog, I couldn't even see the mats, he hair was smooth and straight....I thought.

    You have saved my sanity… I have a Maltese and is so matted. I have been trying to comb it out and it just keeps matting and matting. Using your technique I was able to brush her out and you have encouraged me to continue. I really thought I was gonna have to get her shaved down and we are going into winter in northern Ontario. She sends a big bark to you and thanks you as well.

      So glad this was able to help you keep your babies coat. Please note - you could also take a small spray bottle and fill the bottle 1/4 to 1/2 with doggie conditioner and fill the rest of the bottle with water and spray this on the mat. However, if your baby tends to get oily easy, you may want to cut back on the conditioner a bit.

    OMG! The tongue!!!! Oh she is so adorable! What a good little girl! Thank you! This save me from having to shave my 4 mos Yorkie for a few mats. She HATES being brushed, having her face washed, etc.......:(. I try every day to be positive about her brushing and give treats and lots of praise doing this daily, slowly, gently. I can't get her to be OK with it. Makes me so sad.

    Thank You soo much!!!!! I bought a 8 wk. old yorkie and the breeder gave her a bath before l got her and l don’t feel she knew what she was doing and l felt mats so l took her to a groomer and she said she would have to be shaved. I said no so l took her and tried to comb her gently but she would cry and that hurt me so bad. I have another yorkie almost 2yrs old l comb and brush her everyday and no mats l was just sick about it. I took her back to the groomer to get her hair cut or shaved / thank God she took her time with her and didn’t cut or shave her and got all the mats out she charged me $85.00 to get mats out. I am going to do what you say and watch all the tapes on how to groom her myself at home. Ma’am you are are God sent!!!! Thank You 🙏🏽🌹

      if you spray the mats with a 50/50 combo of water and conditioner and let it sit a 20 seconds or so, it will help loosen them up . DONT use a comb tho,

    Thanks, my Yorkie has really fine hair and he is constantly getting leaves, yard debris matted in his hair. It looks like we will be working for awhile. Strangely enough the front half of his body rarely mats or holds leaves but the back half is like a mat magnet.

I have the exact same female yorkie that you have and she gets matted and even tried brushing while bathing.. I also have the same brush that your using- thanks for sharing and I will give it a try.

      Hope it works for you... Be patient .... you can also use a mixture of dog conditioner and water (1/4 condition - 3/4 water) in a small spray bottle, mist the matt and let sit for a little bit then pull apart with your fingers then the brush.

    I need a better brush. My brush that is similar to that does absolute zilch for my yorkie, I have to use a slicker which I know can hurt and is not good for yorkie hair. He has super thin skin and hair in certain places. He does not get too matted but he gets little knots in places like his belly and armpits and he hates me brushing them.
    I also need to teach him to lie down like that while I'm brushing him, he's usually fine getting on his belly but he's very resistant to do it while brushing him and I don't want to force it as he already dislikes brushing but will put up with it mostly. I'm new to small dogs and long haired dogs so it's a learning curve for me right now, he has short hair at the moment but longer on the beard and legs

    • @reginascraftingandmore713
      @reginascraftingandmore713  10 місяців тому

      You might try shaving or scissoring the hair off from his armpits - that's what I do - It helps so much. Mine wont lay still if I use the steel bristles on them - the brush end is much better. Keep trying...patience.

    • @somebodyyoudontknow3980
      @somebodyyoudontknow3980 10 місяців тому

      @@reginascraftingandmore713 thank you, I have been able to get him to lay on his back while I brush his belly with my soft brush, it doesn't do much but it's just to get him used to it while keeping it as pleasant as possible. I do sometimes get scissors to the knots but he's already got quite a short coat so I try to only do that if I have to.
      I definitely need to find a good bristle brush like that though, just not sure what to particularly look for

    I had a previous groomer shave my morkie bc she found 2 small knots under each front leg (her words) n no other knots. I brought him in as a blk n white ball of fur n picked up a pink, white n grey scared n shaking puppy! I thought she was giving me the wrong dog. She Said ik he is short but I gave you a jacket!!! I literally cried! He was 12 wks old at the time, now he is 3yrs old, he also needs to be medicated for his grooming. I won't ever go bk to her.

    • @reginascraftingandmore713
      @reginascraftingandmore713  2 роки тому

      You will have to do it OR let your vet do it ... I showed Cocker Spaniels for for a long time and had to do this myself for a couple of them. Yorkies to me are more difficult to do this for. That being said, do it on Bath Day .... Here is a link to some videos showing how this is done.... I NEVER did it the "internal" method ... ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=how+to+express+your+dog%27s+glands+at+home+ .... and I woud Ask the vet to show you how.

    • @reginascraftingandmore713
      @reginascraftingandmore713  2 роки тому +1

      Learn to express them. Ask the Vet to show you how to do it. I did it all the time for my Cocker Spaniels when I was raising and showing them. Dont have to for my yorkies, at least so far.

    My Yorkie HATES the metal toothed brush like you are using, and I know it hurts him. I refuse to comb him with anything metal. Also, refuse to take him to groomer because they shaved him and made him look like a darn lion.
    I wish you’d get that long hair out of this sweet girl’s eyes. It has to be bothersome to her. Oh my!

    • @reginascraftingandmore713
      @reginascraftingandmore713  Рік тому

      Thanks for your comment. I DO NOT use the metal prongs and I mentioned that in my video - The last thing I do is brush the hair on her head and put her hair in a ponytail band.

    • @Weeksj2412
      @Weeksj2412 Рік тому

      I didn’t mean to offend you by my comment. I noticed how your sweet little girl jumped when you used the metal part of the brush to detangle a few spots at her rear end. Mine does the same thing and even snaps at the brush. I only use the softer side now and just trim out the mats that I can’t comb out.
      Mine is not nearly as calm as yours. He hates EVERYTHING about bathing and grooming, but we try to brush him daily to keep the mats from getting so bad, and we use the clippers too to keep him trimmed neatly. You took lots more time than most groomers I’ve watched. Love that sweet girl!

    There is a reason for groomers to shave dogs!
    Stop lying to people! Brush your dogs Before they get matted!
    OUTRAGEOUS 🤬

    • @reginascraftingandmore713
      @reginascraftingandmore713  Рік тому +1

      I am assuming you mean you shave them when people dont want to pay the dematting costs, because it's time consuming to de-mat a dog. That's to be expected. That's why they should brush them... However if they have just a few I would think you would brush them out - It doesnt take THAT long. Maybe you should watch the entire video before accusing me of lying.
