    Nice Job
    To separte the transfer case from the gearbox you need a very long allen key no 6. Could you please confirm that it is a standard anti-clockwise to unscrew it? or is special? many thanks for your help

      @@carwerks101 is this the front diff/transfer case of a MK7 Golf R? When my mechanic did my service he put 900ml of oil in the diff after he drained it, should he have put another 600ml to make it 1500ml? (Which is 1.5qt)??! Asking this because my front diff/transfer case recently shit itself, now when I drive I have aggressive banging and snapping and car barely drives forward without clunking really bad. My local mechanic hoisted the car up and got me to drive on the spot and he identified the transfer case banging from the inside. Needs a new transfer case. Is this due to a Lack of oil?? or was it just due to go on my MK7 Golf R with APR stage 2 and 68,000km on the clock? How much oil fits in the front diff/transfer case of a MK7 Golf R? Spewing because a second hand front diff is going to easily cost me $1-2k if a new one is $4k AUD. + install.. :(

    Do you know if the case has a breather? My full plug is stripped, so I might need to fill from the drain hole with a syringe and a check valve, but want to be sure the case isn't sealed and the air cam escape.

      Hey doogy, there doesn't appear to be a breather. Factory spec is to refill from fill hole until some leaks out. You can overfill and stress the seals. Doing this job myself soon, so I've been gathering info

      @@zacharycortese3733 Hi Zachary. The box does have a breather. I had a look at some diagrams and it is labelled. Makes sense as the box gets quite warm in use so the pressure would need somewhere to go. I thought mine was leaking, so wanted to drain it and check how much oil was left within... Drained it into a measuring jug and it still had exactly the right amount in it, the oil was also a different consistency and smell from what I was finding under the car, so not coming from there. Best guess is engine oil I spilled a few months ago when doing a service is slowly making its way down.
      Anyway, as I was unable to remove the rounded fill plug (didn't want to pull out the inner CV to get at it) I measured out the factory specified amount (same amount as was removed) and used a pump bottle to refill via the drain plug. To make the process easier, I bought a knock off of a fumoto oil drain valve and an adapter to m10x1 thread for it to fit into the bevel box drain hole. The drain valve has a little nozzle which fits the hose from my pump bottle and allowed me to fill the box, then close the valve before removing the hose avoiding any loss.
      As it happens, the oil is so viscous that, with the fill plug still in and no way for air to exchange easily, you can quickly cover the drain port with your finger and swap the drain plug back in without actually losing anything anyway. I did this as the drain valve protrudes a lot and I was wary of it getting caught or leaking. Hope you find this info useful.

      ... given there is a breather (I could hear air expelling as I pumped oil in) I don't think oil being a touch over filled will cause any pressure issues which stress the seals as long as it's pretty much the factory specced quantity.

      @@doogyscoot yeah you’re actually correct. I just didn’t see it on my car due to how tight the packaging is on the back of the EA888.3. Just finished pulling the case out of my car to reseal and was like “well shit I lied in the UA-cam comments”.

    Have you seen any of these transfer case bearing break before?
    I got a MK6 Golf R, Theres a workshop i go to, fixed a leaking on the transfer case, and claimed they filled with new oil. Not even a month, drove only 1000km, my transfer case is making noises. Went back to them, they claim that the bearing in the transfer case broke causing noises, and was caused by changing a new Flex coupler on the cardan shaft. When i checked with another workshop, found out that the total oil in the transfer case was only approx. 300ml left inside, which is black, and with sludge. Went back to the workshop, they claimed that the oil required in the transfer case was only around 400~500ml, and it was because of the friction made by the broken bearing, causing the heat, and burn the oil away. Do you think this is legit?

    • @carwerks101
      @carwerks101  5 років тому

      ive never seen one crack, they are pretty tough, the front bevel box only takes about 1qt of fluid or less, it is odd that it failed after a service, i have never seen one fail before , just leak

    • @maxchu92
      @maxchu92 5 років тому

      carwerks101 they opened it up today. Found that the bearing is still intact. Not sure if the bearing is lose or tight, but part of the port between the 2 bevel gears seems to had chipped off.

      @@maxchu92 Do you have any pictures of what went wrong? I'm chasing a banging under acceleration and getting only front wheel spin. Tried several used haldex, pumps, and controllers and the front left still spin and something is banging on the driveline. My Flex coupler (damper) outer weight separated because the banging is so violent. I checked the oil in the bevel box and it was very dark at 60,000 miles with tiny pieces of metal but nothing big came out. I read there is something inside of the bevel box that is weak, what broke on yours?

    I can’t fill thé transfert case with oil is there a trick to fill it up, the oil goes inside and then get’s out by the same fill hole, am trying to fill it up after a flange seal change but still can’t do it

      carwerks101 yes , am filling it from that hole but it didn’t took that much of oil this is why am worrided , it’s not drained am just trying to top up, but the fact that it took just about 10 ml surprised me, and made me think that was not the correct way

      When you désassemble thé transfert case de can see that the part that contains thé drain plug doesn’t communicate with thé part that containes thé fill plug next to thé flange
