An Akiya tour with the available houses would be fun.

The waterfall looks fantastic. It looks like they put a lot of work into it at one point. We visit my wife's family in Iida every year, I'm sure I've seen your area on the way to Matsumoto at some point. Nagano is so natural and beautiful. Father-in-law calls it the Japanese Alps. We live in Miami FL so it's always great to escape over there. Do you speak Japanese?

The whole are is incredibly beautiful, we just need some more people living here so we can maintain it all better! I'm in Chiefland, Fl myself currently, but not for much longer as our goal is to make Japan permanent in 2025! We don't speak Japanese yet, but we are learning currently.

Interesting that Google Earth imagery dated 4/2023 doesn't show the solar farm on the adjacent property to yours. I wonder what logistical advantage there was to placing the solar panels there and not somewhere else. It displaced some land that would be very advantageous to have given your plans for your place.... parking and garden area.
It surely is an interesting area... It looks like the trail from your property goes up to the Soshima Shrine... not the Otaki Shrine... unless there's a long path over the hills and valleys... and there are many shrines in that area!
Unfortunately I have a couple decades on Earth more than you do and I am not able to travel to Japan to help... though I would like to. I am retired. I love the culture and it makes me sad also to see cultural sites and old villages abandoned and overgrown. The Japanese people have been lured to the big cities with all the conveniences and entertainment.... can't say I blame them... but also now since C19 more people are working remotely/from home and also I see that young people are starting to see the benefits of rural life... I follow several Japanese youtubers who are restoring abandoned houses/properties.
I had the opportunity to visit and work in Japan 40 years ago and did not take it. I wish I had. I worked for 2 Japanese companies in Southern California, 2 years at each and was offered a temporary work/study opportunity at the Japanese main corporate plant.
    Good luck with your project!

Yes, if you watch my video "I'm in Japan checking out an Akiya", You can see that I didn't even know the solar panels were there either until visiting in person. They are very newly installed. The trail from my property leads to The Soshoji temple. My home has a shrine built in, but it is not recognized on Google yet. Once I get over there, I will work on reopening it. I am hoping that by bringing more recognition to this gorgeous area, we can preserve it for many generations to come!
